“Very difficult to be elderly and woman living on her own, this attracts many unscrupulous builders wanting more cash. So wanting to do home improvements I looked in the traders directories, reading reviews. To my astonishment I encountered problems with some builders I reviewed and those reviews have not come live, indeed check a trade now has stop me messaging to traders jobs to be done. Shame on them. To name few: had a bathroom fitter who came asked for deposit removed my bathroom and never came back, had 2 windows companies asking for big deposit who cancelled but did not want to refund the money, all my reviews for those have disappeared, so do you really trust check a trade? One of those traders has a company in liquidation which is of course not told on check a trade.”

“We have been with Checkatrade for more than a year and we are really unhappy. Every single time when we phone them to let them know that we are not receiving calls or emails their answer was that we need more feedback which will show to the customers that we are good company. We push ourselves and ask all of our customer who are mainly coming from My Builder to leave us a review and this is still not working. After robbing our bank account with monthly payments without authorization April they just cross the line. We had to phone couple of people to get the right answer and at the end they are not letting us have a discount even though it was their mistake because after talking to them to remove 2 of the service that we are doing to decrease the payment they didn't do it and they took twice as big that they should take for April and after phone calling them and finally reaching a manger we still are not getting the response that we are looking from them. They are just trying to cover your eyes with good world and nothing more when, they make a mistake they are not ready to stand up and do their best to fix it they just trying to put more mess into the problem by trying to force you to agree with only one solution that they are giving you and not consider your solution.”

“I recently had a very bad experience with a property refurbishment company. However, when I came to leave a review, I could not actually fault the company when leaving feedback on the categories detailed by Check-a-Trade, such as 'reliability and time keeping.' The company was reliable! We were charged as quoted! What we didn't realize was the mark-up the company was making, charging us £10k for windows which cost them £5k. They also tried to get us to pay extra certain parts went wrong, we did however challenge this. The company in question has 100% scores of 10 across he board. Most of these are their commercial clients. Very biased.”

“Since homeserve took over this company is only after your money and nothing else they have doubled the membership fee and now let other trades buy your local post code and appear above anyone else on their search site and take work out of local companies who actually have received reviews on their own merit and not by buying postcode if you are a trade person and thinking of joining don’t do it as your money will go to home serve crooks and you will not get any work out of Checkatrade”

“I enquired about membership and joining check a trade and decided maybe another time as my business is doing well at the moment. Since then I have been phoned 5+ times a day for weeks numerous texts and voicemails left, I have asked many times for them to take me off the calling list, obviously have not done so, I would think twice about enquiring if were you! Definitely won't be joining them now!!!”

“I've been Checkatrade member as a decorator (sole trader) since 2009. It was really good until HomeServe bought it, which I didn't know about until I was up for renewal. Since then I hardly get any enquiries from them, my membership fee tripled from approximately £800 to £2400 but after much complaining it was reduced to double (approx £1600 per annum). I get more work from recommendations and free listings. They've also completely changed the layout of each members page and no longer display the trades own contact details. Looking at my own page it shows numbers I never knew about!!! Tradesmen/women; if you are thinking of joining don't bother. It's now become a waste of time and money. What a shame.”

“Bunch of cowboys, Ironic that the company (home serve)that owns Checkatrade is in fact a rouge trader. Used once but never again, ripped off and Checkatrade don't want to know.”

“Very little work until you complain then they put you back at the top of searches. They put there prices up from my 700 a year to just under 1200 a year in one go wow. Once I cancelled my account out of contract they charged me another £96 claiming it was owed at the end. No no no. Such a shame.”

“Checkatrade are in partnership with trading standards?! What a complete joke, both companies are corrupt, they just want your money and once they’ve got it they don’t care. Both companies are a waste of space, trading standards just cost the taxpayer billions of pounds a year in wasted money, all staff are incompetent and need proper training but they are happy to take there wages and do a inefficient job.”

“As a trader using the trial offer I am heavily disappointed. Staff have lied and let me down throughout the process, checkatrade aren’t getting back to be to cancel my policy. I’ve whatts app their group, called and left voicemails and sent several emails and still nothing. BE WARNED WHEN CONSIDERING JOINING!!!!!!!!!”
