This is the second time I have had to call out the RAC. The first time, I waited eight hours and gave up and paid someone to start my van. This time, I need a jump start. I have been waiting for six hours, and they cannot give me a time when they will arrive. A friend of mine had to call out the AA today, and they came out in 60 minutes!

Massive pothole, spring broke, limped 100 yards to safety, got half off the road half stuck on rock on hard shoulder. Mohammed rac said "not our problem, insurance as its a crash"..... 15 years if unclaimed payments. Cancelled now.

Avoid this company ... they left me 34 hours on the street with children in Italy and then refuse to pay for recovery, repair and ferry. I paid for everything myself with the promise that they would pay for everything. They pretend that they don't see the invoice, that they don't see the ferry tickets and answer the email once every two weeks

Worst RAC experience ever. I reported my problem at 8 in the morning, after waiting for 6 and a half hours, they towed my car 40 miles away, where I had to wait 4 hours for another tow truck, which towed me 32 miles away, where I had to wait another 2 hours for a third tow truck that took me home. This is beyond ridiculous. They delivered my car and me home in 15 hours, which was only 80 miles away from my home... The drivers were very helpful and understanding, I don't blame them. The way RAC ignores its customers is ridiculous. Customer service is unfriendly and unhelpful. They offered me a car rental, for which I would have had to wait hours and go to the car rental branch at my own expense, where the car was not even guaranteed... so we decided to travel with our car on the truck, but at that time we still didn't know what was waiting for us. if I knew, I'd rather walk this 80 miles. Their incompetence ruined my entire weekend. One thing is certain in my life, never more RAC. If the insurance company only contracts with them, I will replace them immediately. I wouldn't recommend to enyone, only for my enemies.

If I could rate the RAC recovery experience I had a zero I would. My car broke down at 11am on a Saturday, I was stuck in an industrial estate car park with a puppy, nowhere to pee and nothing to eat or drink on my own. The industrial estate security barrier was being put down and locked at 5.30. I was told they'd be with me by 4pm. I called at 3pm to check and they couldn't answer when someone was coming. I felt like they'd misplaced me. They then said they'd prioritise me because I'd been there for 4 hours. At 5pm I called again. They escalated me and sent a third party recovery vehicle. They said they'd be there by 5.45 so I persuaded a random man to keep the barrier open. The third party guy called me at 5.30 and said he'd just picked the job up and was half an hour away. When he arrived he needed to tow the car, but the RAC had not said they'd meet that expense so he couldn't. The RAC said they had confirmed they would meet that cost to the third party recovery places's office. The guy checked and it was definitely not true. I eventually got jump started to drive to the local nissan dealer, five hundred yards away at 7.30pm. Absolutely appalling service.

Break down on motor way called rac gave me a 2 to 4hr window then changed it to a 6 to 8hr window , really, sitting on the hard shoulder of a motorway. I think this is totally unacceptable. cancelled the call out , got it sorted elsewhere in 1 hr

Had breakdown and needed part. I was helpfully shown my options, and could only afford the cheaper part at £432. Chap phoned a couple of days later and asked to attend early (impressed), fitted the part very quickly which was great, then presented me with a bill for nearly £600! I was told to pay it, then phone to get a refund. Phoned and was very bluntly told by the team that they didn't have the cheaper part and texted me (which I never got) then just went ahead and fitted the expensive part so tough basically. I am attempting to get my money back, and have been told it needs to ge investigated, so in the meantime don't use the car... investigation may take up to 8 weeks! This from a company that should be helping you back on the road. Shocked at this underhand service. Do not trust these cowboys. Disgusting service

First of all I didn't get off to a great start as they failed to send me my policy documents. I had made them aware of this back in September. I had bought Unlimited Rescue. The village got flooded and I called RAC to assist, one arrived the next day, laughed at the situation and the fact I wasn't covered and then drove off after moving me a few meters. Now RAC want me to pay for the recovery as it turns out, Unlimited Rescue is actually limited. I had tried calling the customer relations team but I was told they had turned the lines off and I kept on getting passed around different departments for 5 days.

Watch out if you call and inform the RAC that you will not be renewing when the year of cover is up. I did a good time before renewal required, got a better quote from the AA, received a call from a member of the sales team who tried to get me to renew. That was in July, received a letter from the RA C threatening to pass on the demand for a cancellation fee if not paid within 28 days. This was in October this year.., 3 months following my phone call to them informing them I wouldn't be renewing at the end of July, good job I cancelled the direct debit with the bank. I spoke to a friend who also received a demand for a cancellation fee double what mine was, months after the renewal date, he like me changed to another provider. Beware folks !!!

Stranded 200 miles from home, despite having paid for years for the full RAC recovery package. They collected our car hours ago but the hire car that they are supposed to provide never arrives and every time we call they either promise to chase up on it or escalate to a manager and call us back but nothing happens. So we are stranded 5 hours drive from home, with no transport, accommodation and no help from the RAC….

On Friday 27 September my two daughters and I, plus dog, set off from Glasgow for a stay in a cabin near Loch Awe in the Scottish Highlands. We were in my younger daughter's car and she was driving. On the A82 near Crianlarich the car began juddering alarmingly so we pulled in off the road, into a quiet dead-end lane that led to a B&B. My daughter parked and called the RAC. This was at 3.40pm. They said they would be with us by 5.30pm, which was then extended to 7pm. We waited and waited. Despite numerous calls to them and promises that they would return our calls, they did not do so. After several hours of waiting, no updates and no idea how roadworthy the car was for an onward journey, we decided our safest bet was to return to Glasgow and leave the car for an "unaccompanied recovery". We notified the RAC and paid £120 for a taxi to take us back to Glasgow. We received a text from some random recovery company at 12.30am on Saturday morning, when of course we were all asleep. After that nothing. Again repeated calls to the RAC proved fruitless – we still had no idea when the car would be returned to my daughter's home address. In the end, they took more than three days to return it, on Monday 30 September. Worse still, they returned the car with damage to the roof that had not been there before – a dent above the lefthand passenger side, scratches all over the roof, and the radio aerial ripped out of its rooftop socket. We took all this up with the RAC, but their recovery people insist that the damage was there when they arrived to recover the car. The roof was undamaged when we left the car and it would have been impossible for such damage to have been done at the location where we left it: a very quiet rural lane with no through access other than to a B&B at the end. The car was also parked very close to a high bank on the left-hand side, so no other vehicle could have got past it on that side to dent the roof. Ripping an aerial from its socket would also take considerable force, from above. The damage can only have been done by clumsy, rough handling by the recovery people but they are denying all responsibility. I have been truly shocked by this experience and the dismissive attitude of the RAC. Avoid them at all costs! Appalling company.

In a nutshell a lone woman on an unlit country lane with a flat tyre. Event occurred at 16:30 on 4 October. Left me there until 10:00 pm when after having made various call throughout the evening I was told it was likely to be 4:00 am the next day before the could assist. I got a taxi home at this point and even after texting them to say I was going to get a taxi a recovery company contacted at 23:30 that evening and 10:30 the next day. As if I would still be there! Poor communication poor service and a ver poor company. Better to have no subscription and just call a local recovery company out - much cheaper and quicker.
