Took 7 hrs to attend my breakdown then refused to fix a new battery because the RAC man decide my Car was a trade vehicle ! Shocking treatment from RAC will not renew my membership- which was not the cheapest!

We broke down and in a van the sent a patrol car because we were on the motorway, he couldn't fix it so we needed a recovery truck. We end up calling 15 times and waited 21 hours no food no water. They said a manager would call they didn't. No explanation only told to raise a complaint but they wouldn't reply to it if we did.

Appalling service. Broke down on a junction and due to being electric car unable to move it as brakes locked on. Told them this and that the car was causing a hazard for other cars having to get past me at the junction. Told recovery would be an hour but every time that time came they extended the eta. Eventually car was recovered 5 hours after reported. Awful service. Avoid at all cost!

You are a breakdown recovery service. At 18.00 on Thursday night, I was in the middle of the country side, caught by the floods and my vehicle was stuck. After calling, I was firstly told you would not help as you were concerned for your vehicle and later told that you would not help because the flooding that I was caught in did not constitute a breakdown. You totally failed to realise that I was left without any support in the cold in a flood at the age of 73. I pay for your service so that I can have confidence that if I happen to be stuck somewhere I will get rescued. As it happened my son was with me and we found a farmer who made a cup of tea for me while he got us to our final destination. After all of this the next day when we spoke with you you said you would send someone to diagnose the issue. Later you called and said you would not be doing this as it didn't count as a breakdown. No one really cares what you technically consider a breakdown. The fact is, I pay for RAC rescue and my car would not start. That in anyone's book is a breakdown. Your customer support was atrocious. Imagine I had not been so able, not had my son with me and was in the same situation. In the end I shall be making a public review of RAC and not just a feedback to your email so that others will know of your total lack of support, total lack of empathy as a business and consideration only for making sure that you can save every penny at anyone's cost. We have now spoken with comparable companies and will be moving to them immediately as not only have other's confirmed it, but they have no issues helping people in such situations. You should be appalled by your lack of service when people are in such need.

Avoid RAC breakdown I reported a breakdown at 16.30, and was given an ETA range ending 17.25. After this time had come and gone, I called RAC and was told the case had to be ‘escalated’ and that I should get a a call within 30 minutes. After 90 minutes, I called back, and was told “there are no patrols in your area” (SW London- hardly remote). The app then updated, suggesting I would be attended to by 21.50. I then received another call, and was again told there were “no patrols in your area”. The person to whom I spoke gave me 2 options- 1. “call back tomorrow” 2. A partner company to attend the breakdown, but this would take up to two hours, on top of the 5 hours I had already been waiting. I said I had been told on the app that a patrol was due to arrive by 21.50. The person said he had no idea why this was, as a patrol had never been available in my area. The matter was eventually resolved by the partner company at 23.15, almost seven hours after I reported it, and only after my continued efforts to get anything done at all. RAC asked me, in request for feedback, why I cancelled the callout. I am genuinely shocked at how RAC operates. I received a total lack of service, pitiful communication, indication of ETAs which was entirely false, and indifferent customer service operatives casually telling me there was nothing they could do. I am saddened to see the deterioration of RAC from a once iconic British motoring brand to this. I would urge anyone considering taking out or renewing breakdown cover to consider not only my concerns but those expressed through the 1* reviews representing 18% of the total.

Robotic process whether requesting help for a call out or replying to telephone or emails on policy. Very poor call out support for Highland Scotland. This was confirmed also by third party garage who finally attended after more than 8 hour wait.

After 7 years membership I broke down for the first time a few days ago. I waited in pitch black, pouring rain, on the brow of a hill in the middle of the moors for 5 hours, receiving a message every half hour saying someone was on their way. They weren't. Had to call the police to cordon off my car as I had no hazard lights as the battery died. Terrifying experience. They eventually sent a third party company to tow my car. They said I had no option but to go back to where I was staying as it was a BH and no garages were open, they said they would sort it out the next day. The next day comes and they say as I had my tow I will need to pay £250 to be towed to a garage as the clutch had gone and it could not be fixed at the roadside. The RAC are crooks who sacked most of their drivers during covid, sold off the fleet and have not replenished them, all whilst still taking members membership fees. I have cancelled my renewal and will be going with Green Flag.

I broke down on Friday 15th December & called for assistance. I was told because I am a home carer worker I would need to pay £160 for you to come out to me. I was left stranded & had to call a private company who charged me £80. My policy was paid in full & ends October 2024. I phoned the next day to complain & was promised a phone call by 5pm that day but that never happened. I phoned again today & was told I would be called back which I was, I was then told to hold the line which I did but then cut off. This is a disgrace & will be taking this further. Nobody in this company has a clue what they are doing, you are passed from one person to another I was previously with the AA & never ever had a problem with them, I only went with RAC as I brought a new car & had free cover with you for 1 year then unfortunately decided to carry it on. I have many friends & family with the RAC & have told them of my experience & they have all said once their cover ends they will not be staying with you as to worried they will be left stranded like I was I need this sorted ASAP as I now have no cover & am stuck with you until October, I would like a full refund of the money I have paid so I can go with a professional company & not passed from pillow to post as nobody in your company has a clue what they are doing

Absolutely appaulling. Rang and doubled confirmed that the Mobile tyre service could attend to us today when we did the booking with the RAC over the phone the other day. They assured us that was the case and happily took our money up front. We explicity let them know if the tyres were unable to be done we need to know as heading off in 2 days time across the Nullabour and would not then be able to book in elsewhere as other tyre places needed to order the tyres in. So, guess what, yep RAC cancelled today by email. Unbelievable. Rang they were apologetic and unable to further help us to get some one else out. Not happy! While on hold to them listening to their voice message recording stating how they can be relied upon. On requesting our refund that was not a problem except would take 3- 5 days for this to be refunded. SO RAC gets their money asap cancels on us and now we have to wait 3- 5 days for the refund which would come in useful to pay the other tyre place that went out of their way to source tyres and to source a place where we could get them fitted. SO a BIG THANK YOU to Joe at TYRESALES

Rang the RAC to report breakdown @ 11.11 am Had a new alternator replaced and back on the road by 14.20pm . Quoted £375 for part but was actually only £261 .very happy with the service I received, the guy was very friendly, it was blowing a gale and pouring with rain and he remained happy. We bought him 2 coffees to keep him warm ☺️☺️

I'd give the RAC '0' stars if it was an option. I've used them 3 times over the past year and I've encountered incredibly rude and insulting mechanics. They make you feel guilty for having to call them out. I'll be signing up to another breakdown company instead, surely no other company can be this bad? Avoid the RAC at all costs!

I broke down and paid for a tow upfront as they said it was unlikely that it would be fixed on the side of the road but if it was then i could get a refund. the mechanic did get my car up and running and i got home so no tow was needed. After several calls over the space of 4 weeks and hours on the phone to get a refund for a tow that never happened, i still don't have my refund. I keep getting told it will be in my account but never actually arrives. The RAC has effectively stolen my money. There is no way in hell i would ever recommend using these thief's.

My experience with this company was incredibly frustrating and disheartening. I found myself stranded in the cold for an extended period, enduring from 6:15 AM until 10:30 AM. Despite assurances from the agent to receive a callback, none was forthcoming. Each time I reached out, the agents appeared uninformed about my situation. To my disbelief, one agent even threatened to cancel the job if I contacted them again. The lack of information regarding the estimated recovery time only heightened my frustration. To compound the situation, the RAC breakdown mechanic who eventually arrived first suggested the need for pick-up recovery before assessing my car's issue. He mentioned arranging it while en route. Regrettably, upon inspecting my car from a short distance, he admitted he couldn't fix it. Surprisingly, he didn't bring or use an OBD diagnostic. Instead, he attempted a jump start and informed me that he would need to organize a pick-up, a task he had initially claimed to handle on his way to me. Following the diagnosis, I was swiftly charged £263, and the on-site patrol advised that the team would contact me with the next steps, which never happened. No details were shared about the tow company. An agent on the phone informed me that as they cannot tow back to my house in one trip, they would need to arrange multiple pickups. I was given a mere estimate that my car would be returned to my home address in 3 days. After further waiting, I was then told that the car might be returned in 5 days. Given the Christmas season, I find myself without a car and no viable options. Throughout this ordeal, the agents provided a series of implausible excuses, including claims about being unable to confirm the time and restrictions on towing due to limited drive time. Based on my experience, I strongly discourage others from using this company. Opting for a random tow company would likely be both more cost-effective and hassle-free.

Truck broke down on Tuesday afternoon 19/12/2023 at 16:30. The driver is still stranded over 28 hours later and they are now saying the recovery will be Thursday morning, absolutely ridiculous, take your money then don't want to know - DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!

Disabled, I was left waiting for nearly 4 hours. Dispute having asthma and needed my medical. It took 1welve telephone calls . I The following day I waited from 09:00 to 16:40 for the R.A.C. to repair my car from a puncture. ( as discussed by the R.A.C. The previous evening. I understand that they are busy . The RAC is one of or if not the busiest in the U.K. Their profit margins are huge. Your customers are not morons, ……so much for priority service. Mobility office and local newspapers contacted.
