I recently booked a holiday and then had to pay extra as the person dealing with the booking had made a mistake and told us the wrong information. I would not use them again and in future will book it myself, at least the information will be correct and I won't have to pay for someone else's mistakes.

The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel 14-20 October 2017 The hotel was in a great location, the staff were pleasant, the hotel was in need of refurb, but was clean and rooms were spacious, but....... 384 dollars "facility charge" charged for 2 rooms by hotel (30 dollars + 2dollars tax per room per day)- bill was put under the door at 5am on morning of departure - no mention of this by Barrhead or by hotel on arrival. We felt, having had a contract/booking with Barrhead, and paid for the flights and hotel, and that this was totally wrong - a small tourist tax - fine - but not this amount. One of our party had to pay this by credit card. Spoiled the end of the holiday and we are disappointed that Barrhead Travel would book us into a hotel without informing us/or being aware of such an addition to the cost.

The booking itself to Orlando ,which was made 19 months before our holiday was handled very well and I found the person who handled the booking very helpful. This was to be a special holiday for my daughter and myself after several years of 'saving up'.Obviously we were very excited as the date of departure approached. Our holiday, the park tickets and return shuttle transfers from airport to hotel were all fully paid well in advance. Unsure of when to expect our flight and park tickets, I contacted Barrhead Travel to be told we should recieve them three to four weeks prior to departure. When they hadn't arrived I contacted them again, only to be told the previous information was wrong and they should arrive about ten days prior to departure. When they hadn't arrived by Tuesday 26th September and we were flying out on Sunday 1st October, I contacted them for the third time to be told that the tickets had been sent to the branch at The Fort and we should have been contacted. It took several attempts to get through to The Fort as the calls kept getting diverted to The Forge. However when I finally got through, it was to be told that tickets were being sent by courier and they were still waiting for them. In the end I had to take a day off work on the Thursday to collect the flight tickets . Some of the park tickets were not there and they requested I come back later to collect them. This I could not do, but an employee did bring them to my door later that night, for which I was grateful. This being said, the anxiety and stress this delay caused spoilt what should have been an exciting lead up to our holiday. The late arrival of our tickets also meant we could not access certain things eg. Fast Pass for parks until we arrived which was an inconvenience we could have done without On arrival at Orlando airport, information given was to telephone the shuttle transfer on our arrival. We spent thirty minutes trying various telephones and asking for assistance, only to be told by a Thomas Cook rep that it was their job to contact the taxi. The holiday itself was enjoyable but the whole experience could have been improved upon if Barrhead Travel had kept us better informed.

Their “on hold” info tells you that they have been voted the travel agent of the year by the industry but I beg to differ. They made me pay for a holiday on 23rd of August that I am taking on 14th December and then when I wanted to add parking at Tilbury Dock, a further £44 for four days , they charged me a £1fee to use my Visa Debit Card which is a free service with most other agents. When I protested and said that I would send a cheque instead, on principle, they said sorry we don’t accept cheques. I booked an almost identical mini cruise with another agent which I paid a lot less money for in high season with free parking and only wanted full payment ten weeks before. Moral of the story...... I won’t be using Barrhead Travel again!

Booked a cruise with Barrhead Travel. Told them at the time of booking to opt me out of promotional emails and texts but started getting them anyway. Complained to the company by email about it and told them again I didn't want their rubbish. They replied: very sorry, we'll stop. Except they haven't. Since my return I've been getting around 1 spam email per day. Complained to the ICO about it. Neither was I impressed by their handling of my booking. Most tour operators send a holiday pack of some kind before travel, even if it's only basic literature and luggage tags. All I got from Barrhead was an emailed itinerary accompanying their invoice. These people are both cowboy AND useless.

Excellent service and good communication. We had an amazing stress free holiday to the Canadian Rockies, including the Rocky Mountaineer. Our transfers were all prompt and our tours were fantastic and well organised.

Cruise was first class - all they said it would be. Only complaint is CDG where helpful staff and comfort are posted missing. Return flight via Amsterdam 100% better

Dire customer services from knowledgeable to downright rude. I'd rather miss out than pay for that kind of service.

I booked a holiday to Cuba through Barrhead paying a deposit of £500. On 6th May the holiday company changed the availability, giving me the option of cancelling with a full refund of deposit. I confirmed to Barrhead I wished to pursue this option and confirmed by email on 8th May. I was told this may take up to 6 weeks. On 28th June, some 7weeks later and having wasted about 6 hours of my time, I found that the holiday company concerned were not holding any money that I had paid and emailed this to Barrhead. This was followed by a phone call on 29th June when I was told I would be called back by a manager. As this had not happened 24 hours later I wrote to Barrhead's Chief Executive. It is now the evening of 4th July and still no response. I fail to see how Barrhead can take a deposit immediately but take 60 days plus to refund the same. Customer service is a complete joke!!

I booked over the phone with Barrhead travel silverburn Glasgow after numerous phone calls to the store when I was told someone would call me back regarding holiday. After getting holiday booked with no information on accommodation I seen reviews on it so visited store to try and change accommodation. After speaking with Craig at the silverburn store to deal with the accommodation he asked me to leave the store & said I was being aggressive. In no way was I being aggressive & if that is the way in which Barrhead travel staff at silverburn burn deal with their customers they won't have many customers left, I will not be handing over another penny & I will surely make family & friends aware of Barrhead travels conduct & professionalism at the store

We have previously used longhaul 'experts' for USA but this time they made a mess of our itinerary, so we decided to try Barrhead as a friend said she always used them. From the start our agent Natalie McIntyre, was excellent. I had a basic itinerary in mind, and it depended on using Amtrak sleeper trains, which cut into our budget, but Natalie found us excellent hotels. I had two hotels in mind but she found better ones - Washington DC a 10 min walk from National Mall, opposite one of the Smithsonians and two blocks from Hard Rock Cafe. In Denver smash bang in the middle of Downtown, 100 metres from the station. New York close enough to walk to most places other than the 9/11 museum, and Chicago....Mid Downtown, overlooking the River Walk in the Langham (THE BEST). All hotels were nice quality, all had safes and air conditioning and all but one had a fridge. Best of all, Natalie was patient and professional in dealing with the original Holzilla, guiding me to better choices in hotels and airports. particularly, she suggested we fly from/to Edinburgh. We flew out of Edinburgh and it was an excellent choice. I overruled her on the way back (Basically because of trains from Edinburgh to Aberdeen) but T5 is so big its a major pain getting from the plane to the waiting area for the connection to Aberdeen, so I should have taken her advice. So all in all, THE BEST travel service for Long Haul
