“My renewal went up. Called them to see if they could match comparison site prices. Advised my husband is not self employed then decided to rip me off before policy ends saying that’s an extra £22 pounds for the two weeks cover. Disgusting I will never use this company again”

“I helped my neighbour purchase their car insurance from RAC online it all went smoothly but then they requested additional documents which we emailed them by return email. A few days later they told us that the policy is cancelled because they did not receive the documents although the email had successfully been sent. We used the chat to enquire the reason and the answer was that because they had no received the documents they cancelled the policy and nothing can be done. I asked if they received the documents that were sent and they said they never look at their emails. This cancellation resulted in higher insurance rate of my neighbours. Please don't use this service. I have a copy of the transcript if anyone wishes to see.”

“I took out car insurance then changed my car 4 months into policy. When I tried to change the car over was told they wouldn't insure me on the new car. I had to cancel my policy because of them and they charged me 65.00 to do so yet it was them who couldn't fulfill the insurance. You can't speak to anyone if you do the insurance online it all had to be via chat which is very frustrating and the chat closes after a while even if you are still talking to someone. I spent all day yesterday sorting my insurance and I will never insure with these again.”

“I tried to call them but was told RAC does not do quotes over the phone. I tried to do it online but was told to contact live chat. Live chat told me they cannot do quotes over chat. What is wrong with you???? What happened to customer service??? Why do you hate talking to people so much???”

“I have RAC breakdown Recovery, never claimed for recovery in 44 years, I had a burst tyre and called for recovery they asked if the metal rim of the tyre was damaged I said yes, They said if the wheel rim is damaged it's classed as a Road Traffic Accident and that RAC don't recover if your have damage to the wheel rim. It's classed as a Road Traffic Accident. SO NO RECOVERY.”

“Just had my RAC house insurance renewal. Without any explanation and certainly without us making any claims - ever it has increased from £386 to £ 1752. Rang them not even an apology just said that is what it costs. They have now lost that plus breakdown and car insurance. Hope they think it’s worth it. Charlatans”

“When purchasing a new car I was shocked to find the premium quoted by RAC was three times our previous, despite being for a lower powered car and having been a loyal RAC customer for many years, with 9-year No Claims Discount. It was made clear there would be £45 cancellation fee, which seemed fair enough. Having insured the new car, I contacted RAC to actually cancel the policy to be told that in addition to the cancellation fee all of the additional options (legal insurance, breakdown cover, etc.) had to be paid in full for the year, despite having only used a portion of the policy, with no possibility of transferring any benefits. This may be just how insurance works, but it was not communicated previously and the whole experience felt rigged. I will not use RAC again.”

“RAC is happy to accept our money for decades of NO CLAIM, however the minute we made our FIRST ever claim, they put on their magnifying glasses on and dig into all proofs, including our personal medical records. Finally it was approved and our damaged car was fixed, however the feeling was terrible as RAC has absolutely NO element of trust on their paying customers. Total disbelief and well focused on their own benefits and financial gains. RAC policies are set SO WELL to make us poor at all time and them get rich. I suppose this is the case for all insurance companies, unfortunately. I recommend do your research, pay less cost for premium and expect better customer service.”

“Awful. My renewal is due in 2 weeks. They quoted me 10x. I am fully paid up until end of policy so cancelled my direct debit as I am not renewing. Sent an email with this information. Got a letter today from CEO saying my policy has been cancelled early and there is a cancellation charge! Never again, such an terrible company”

“I recently renewed my car insurance with RAC as the price went down considerably. During the process, we moved house and I forgot all about it. On the first day of my insurance, I contacted RAC to give my new address. I thought I’d encounter expensive admin fees, like with most other companies I’ve been with - but not a bit of it. In fact I came of the phone with no admin fees and two quid off my monthly payments. This company are the real deal - give them a try people 👍”

“The RAC CAR INSURANCE QUOTES AFTER GETTING A PRICE WHICH SEEMED REASONABLE WERE HIKED UP IN SOME CASE MASSIVELY AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT GETTING A ACEEPTABLE PRICE AS THE FIRST PRICE OFFERED WHEN PROGRESSING MY QUOTE WENT TO A MUCH HIGHER PRICE AND THIS HAPPENED ON A NUMBER OF STRESSFULL TIMES WHEN I TRIED TO GET THE ORIGANAL PRICE QUOTED. WHEN I DID GET A HIGHER PRICE I COULD JUST ABOUT PAY FOR THROUGH EVERY STAGE I HAD TO GET PAST WHAT SEEMED NON STOP EXTRAS TO PUSH MY QUOTED PRICE HIGHER.”

“What went right? Nothing, it seems that they make the rules up as they go along, they take money for even the simplest of actions, even though the customer does all of the work online and everything their side is automated. Insurance is a legal requirement, RAC insurance use this fact to try and take money at every opportunity, been driving for 32.5 years and this is by far my worst experience, I could go into more detail, just be advised to give them a wide berth, especially if you are on a tight budget. Disgusting behaviour bordering on extortion”

“DO NOT TAKE OUT CAR INSURANCE WITH RAC! Problems from the minute I reported an accident (not my fault). Logged incorrect information with regards to the crash, very minimal communication unless I rang them for updates. Very poor customer service. Avoid at all costs!”
