WARNING - DO NOT USE GREEN MOTION CAR RENTAL - THIS BUSINESS IS A SCAM - YOU WILL GET STUNG COMPLETELY UN-ETHICAL BUSINESS OUT TO BILL YOU FOR DAMAGE YOU NEVER CAUSED I rented a car from Green Motion at Edinburgh Airport for the period 20 - 22nd September 2019. All seemed well. The little car was in good condition with a few minor marks on the paint all acknowledged by the person doing the vehicle handover but not recorded on the damage sheet owing to the marks being very small and not noteworthy (according to the person doing the handover). I drove the car to my Air B&B which was 17 mile journey. The car was not used again until returning to the airport on Sunday. The total journey was 34 miles and it was all by motorway or ring road. The journey was incident free and there was no chance at all that anything happened to the car. Upon retuning the vehicle to Green Motion at Edinburgh Airport the person inspecting the vehicle seemed to be taking their time especially around the rear kerb side wheel. He inspected the whole car with a fine tooth comb - much more diligently than they had done at pick up. I immediately sensed something was up. The first inspector called for a second colleague to help and they both returned to the rear kerb side wheel. Seconds later I was summonsed to inspect the “damage” that had been found. The inspector continued to show me a slice in the tyre wall about 1/4 inch from the alloy wheel and tyre bead. He had to pull down on the razor style cut in order to make it visible. Without physically pulling on the tyre wall the cut was completely imperceptible and invisible. The only way this person could have found this cut was by knowing it was a pre-existing fault. Or worse having purposefully caused the fault himself either at the time of inspection or prior to my collecting the car. My suspicion is that this is a fault they have purposefully setup in order to repeatedly catch people out over. I was taken to the office and despite my protests they billed me £138 for a new tyre which is in itself extortionate rates. They said this included their loss of use of the vehicle for the day. When I protested my innocence and suggested the fault was pre-existing they threatened me with taking my full deposit of £1,200. I was held to ransom and had no choice but to pay the £138. I am certain this is a slick scam. And having went to the internet to check on this company of course there are myriad of reviews with similar stories of people being charged extortionate prices for damage caused during a rental that people are denying ever happened and usually has been pre-exisiting damage. The whole process was very well prepared to argue their case. Upon protesting your innocence the clerk behind the desk has various aids to hand to raise and demonstrate that you have signed up to contract conditions, that you inspected the car and signed it was free of damage upon collection. They also capitalise on the fact that you are most likely under time pressure to catch a flight and therefore not in a position to hang about and argue your case. The whole process from start to finish is very well planned to relieve you of many times more than your original rental cost. And in my case the damage done to the tyre wall was absolutely caused purposefully by the likes of a razor blade specifically in order to make it invisible to all but the person who caused it. Had a tyre been damaged during road use the damage would certainly have been in the tread area closer to the road and not on the edge of the alloy rim. Had the tyre succumbed damage in this area the alloy rim would certainly also have been damaged at the same time. I do not believe for one minute especially having read the accounts from others that this damage was caused during my rental. There are even articles in the press (Guardian) calling out this firm and warning people of the reports of it being a potential scam set up to focus on billing people for damage they did not cause. Be warned and avoid this company at all costs. I actually rented through “Affordable Car Hire” who chose Green Motion as the supplier. You wouldn’t know you are working with Green Motion until you receive your rental voucher where they are named as the supplier. I highly discourage using this company and hope someday someone manages to bring them to rights for this unethical abuse of customers. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2018/jun/09/green-motion-car-hire-bills https://www.theguardian.com/money/2017/oct/28/green-motion-hire-car-rental-damage-charges

Shocking services. I booked with edreams for the unlimited millage, with insurance so that I didn't have to bother with deposits when collecting the car. Upon collection, they demanded€1400 deposit as the insurance was a 3rd part insurance and not with Green Motion. The unlimited mileage was capped at 85 miles per day. I booked a salon car, they tried to give me a mini copper. Then when I did get a large car, it had no petrol. I was told to bring it back empty! They directed me to a petrol station, which turned out had been closed for the past 3 months. Then I bearly made it to the next petrol station. A total nightmare, and I would never use eith of these companies again.

Beware of Green Motion London City airport. They accused me of the smallest possible scuff on a wheel, which I hadn't caused but was hardly noticeable anyway and could be buffed out as hadn't scratched the surface. They took £160.00 from my deposit then refused to give me a second hire car unless I upgraded and paid a further £240.00 for 8 days on top of what I had already paid. I am taking this further as it amounts to theft. They are scammers, dont touch them!

I hired a car from London City airport(location way off from the airport). When I returned the car, I was told I'd have to pay for very small almost invisible scratch on alloy wheel. Ironically, checking the wheels for scratches was omitted during collection. Even though the scratch looks old, I was charged £160. This company is a scam. Avoid them. The cheap prices are used to hoick people in.

Didn’t have a credit card so insisted I paid 45 pounds a day for insurance, only on the website they charge 32 for a day. 32 pounds for one day car insurance is incredible. Spoke to them about this and they didn’t care said I have to pay or cancel my booking which was too late for them to refund me anything. Green motion should rename to greedy motion. BUDGET CAR HIRE WERE FANTASTIC

You get what you pay for. I chose Green Motion because it was a few Euros cheaper, and I regret it. The first and last time I rent a car with them, the whole experience was a disaster: - I got a €40 parking ticket and Green Motion charged me €72 for administration fees. This is 4x more than any other rental car company. Even though the ticket stated I had 10 working days to claim, Green Motion simply charged my credit card for €112 before I knew about it. - The car was in very bad condition, full of scratches. It took me 1/2 hour to check previous damages an add them to the report. - At the counter, the staff of Green Motion tried to change the conditions stated in the contract when I booked the car with Autoeurope.com. They tried to lower the insurance coverage that was written on my contract. Staff was very rude. Bottom line: stay away from Green Motion. I rent cars every month, and this is by far the most unprofessional service I’ve seen.

We have very often rented cars, and in many places, but we have NEVER encountered a rental agency as exploitative and unpleasant as Green Motion in Bristol. For us the primary issue was their unheard of ‘fine print’ policy concerning the use of debit and credit cards that more than doubled the cost of our rental, but several smaller things also made clear the kind of business we were dealing with. First, the pickup directions, while offering a shuttle, suggested that they were only a 5 minute walk from the the terminal. Not true: at least 15 minutes, and with the need to cross a very busy street with no pedestrian crossing. Second, a verbal assurance, concerning their untypical fuel return policy that anything over one-fourth full, on the car they supplied, would be fine, followed by a 10 GBP surcharge when the tank was returned under half full. And third, a long delay waiting for the shuttle return to the airport: we were kept waiting almost 15 minutes with many people who had been there even longer. Most of those people were crowding inside a tiny hall to escape the rain, but there were so many people waiting and the hall so small, that we were among an overflow forced to stand in the rain while waiting for the shuttle. But the worst part was their credit/debit card policy. They do ‘accept’ debit cards, but only if one pays a mandatory 18 GBP extra each day for insurance against the deposit. We have our own annual excess insurance, but this was not seen as acceptible: the 18 GBP daily additional charge was not for excess insurance. Almost every other rental company does accept debit cards with no extra charges. But we have a credit card also, just in case. However it is Green Motion’s policy only to accept credit cards more than TWO MONTHS away from their expiration date (our bank sends new ones two weeks before expiration). Therefore we could not use our valid crediti card to avoid their doubling of the rental cost. We called our bank, a subsidiary of HSBC, and they were incredulous about Green Motion’s policy. We are in contact with their VISA department to learn if it is even legal for Green Motion to claim to accept credit cards when they do not honor the expiration date. Beware Green Motion car hire!

do not be fooled to inspect yourself the next day until 10am. If you don't notice something and they know the fault, it will be found quickly and you will pay for it!!!! No recommend Ruth staff!!!

Never in all my years of renting a car have I been treated so badly and I have never had someone force me to pay extra money on a rental car. My car rental in Edinburgh, Scotland last August, was prepaid and after almost a two hour wait to be seen by someone in the office I was told that because my credit card did not have a chip and pin it would not be accepted. I have not heard of a chip and pin card in the USA although they are common in Europe. I was told that I must buy insurance which was more expensive than my original rental fee. As my trip was starting I had no choice but to use a different credit card to and buy the insurance. Strangely, that card with no chip and pin was fine to buy insurance. While on my trip I contacted my credit card company and explained the situation, which I consider fraud, and they agreed with me and canceled the insurance payment to you. Later I talked to two other car rental agencies who both said that never heard on any such attempt to change me the insurance fee. We also spoke to another couple when we returned our car who were furious that the same thing happened to them. Sincerely, and one who will never again rent from Green Motion again.

I arranged a rental period of 88 days. This was done online 4 weeks prior to me collecting the car from Manchester Airport (which incidentally is not at Manchester Airport). I completed the form and scanned in all documents required so as the collection would be as quick and smooth as possible. When I arrived to collect the car I was greeted by the most unhelpful person you could ever wish to meet. The person in question I believe is Ben Hunter. After giving him my details and explaining I had completed everything online he told me he couldn't find anything and I would have to fill out a new form and submit all necessary documents. When I explained I didn't have everything with me he became rude to the point of being aggressive . Eventually when the documentation was sorted he then informed me I wasn't allowed to have the car as I had hired from them previously in the past twelve months and that Green Motion was a car rental company and NOT a contract hire company. I was now becoming increasingly tired of his rude and obnoxious attitude. I said I would then look to find another car rental company. Amazingly his cocky attitude seem to change and then agreed to let me have the car. Just when I thought he couldn't get anymore bolshy he then informed me that the holding deposit of £1405 would have to be re done every 28 days and if I didn't come back to the branch he would fine me £250. When I asked if he would allow me extra mileage to make the return trips he said in no . By this time I was furious and just wanted to get away. I took the car and drove off. I contacted Green Motions head office and they told me firstly Ben Hunter was totally out of order in refusing me the car hire because I had previously hired from them, secondly as it was not explained in this T's & C's they could not insist I return every 28 days to renew the holding deposit. Lastly he was bang out of order threatening to fine me if I didn't return. Their head office was horrified by Ben Hunters behaviour . I can only hope he has been removed from the company or offered some sort of customer service training. After this experience I will never hire from this band of thugs again and will advise anyone thinking of car hire to avoid this company at all costs .

Hired a car from Stanstead airport, on returning was told I'd have to pay for very small scuff on alloy wheel. They couldn't prove it was down to me, I was told they had a photo of it before I took but for data protection reasons I couldn't see it. I was then charged £160 for a £30 job.

had a terrible experience with this company in May 2017. The initial collection experience was pleasant, however, on the way back to returning the vehicle to Birmingham airport, there was a collision which was not my fault. I explained all details to the company not only in the report but also on the telephone to the Manager (Mallick?). He said he knew the roundabout well where the incident had occurred and implied that it was not my fault. Whilst the matter was being dealt with by the insurance company, etc. my GBP 1,000 deposit was withheld. After chasing them with frequent phone calls and emails for 2 whole years, I finally had to give up as I was getting nowhere. Not only have they unjustifiably held on to my money, they have failed to communicate with me explaining why. I will never hire from Green Motion again.

It’s a trap! £1250 deposit or additional insurance So you get hit with the £1250 deposit requirement or offered an alternative of taking out their insurance. So to my £130 booking for 11 days ended up costing a total of £338. Avis or Hertz are equal in the costs and provide better, clean cars. Never again will I book green motion.

Green Motion Review WARNING! FRAUD!! This place is a scam operation against which I am currently taking legal action. Our story: My elderly, disabled mother and I booked a car hire for 21 days through Discover Car Hire that represents Budget, Alamo, Enterprise, etc. and had a 4.5/5 trust pilot review. So I didn’t bother to google Green Motion, a company they represent, out of a false sense of security. IF the broker was legit so must the car rental company. This is why I am giving Discover Car Hire a 1 star review because if they are representing a fraudulent company, they must also be fraudulent. OUR STORY: After a 2 hour wait to receive our car they informed me they didn’t have the car I booked. They instead gave me an “upgrade” and charged me accordingly. Moments after driving out of the car park, smoke started coming from the car. I pulled over and called Green Motion who told me if the car broke down to call the roadside assistance of the car make since they do not maintain their own roadside assistance. I told them I wanted to return the vehicle and get another. The car broke down on the way back. By this time, we had had the car for 15 minutes and had driven 3 miles. I called Green Motion and they immediately started telling me I had damaged the vehicle and it was clear this was my fault. They refused to give me a refund or a replacement vehicle. I called my credit card company and cancelled the charges. I called Discover Car Hire who offered ZERO help. After a few weeks Green Motion sent a fraudulent letter to my credit card company full of lies and Visa had to put the charges back on. THEN, they’ve attempted to charge my credit card even though I paid for full liability insurance. The damage to the car? The hydraulic cable to the slave cylinder which could have only been damaged by undercarriage impact. Cost of the repair? $300 at most. Cost Green Motion has been trying to charge my credit card? Various sums in the vicinity of $3600. Plus they’ve sent threatening emails saying they were going to send me to debt collection. I am now in contact with some Scottish lawyers about bringing fraud charges against this company. As I ramp up my case and evidence, I will also be looking into suing Discover Car Hire as well. How has Green Motion been able to operate for so long in a place as civilised as Scotland!?!
