I really wish I could give 0 stars. After paying for the upgraded coverage, I got a flat tire. Even though I was told that I was fully covered for all damage, now I get to buy a tire and arrange for the replacement all on my own. Add to that, there's no spare, no repair kit, and no jack. So I am now stranded in Kent and they're not at all interested in helping me. This isn't a rental car company, it's a scam 100% avoid them at all costs. If you're in the fence with dealing with them, let this bee your rational reason why to choose another, real, company.

Where do I start with this bunch of scamming rogues? Firstly, DO NOT rent a car from these callous thieves! Secondly, check out the Facebook group “Class Action Against Green Motion.” Read about the sort of scams they pull on unsuspecting customers up and down the country. They tell you to check the car over on collection and photograph any damage you can find. They follow you around the car and see if you spot everything. Anything you don’t spot, you WILL be billed for at the end of the rental. I wasn’t happy to begin with when they didn’t have the car that I had originally booked, a large saloon. They made out that I was getting an upgrade and gave me a small “SUV.” It was tiny, luckily the family members I collected from the airport only had small cases and we’d had to go in two cars anyway as there were six of them. When returning the car, the guy checking it skipped over all the damage I’d photographed and went straight to a small ding on the edge of one of the doors. It could hardly be seen with that naked eye but the way he made a big deal out of it you’d think the door had been ripped off. He soon produced a card with stripes printed on it to highlight the damage in the reflection on the paintwork. Even then, it was hardly noticeable. I am 100% sure that the damage did not occur while I was responsible for the car. It couldn’t have even been a third party that caused the damage as the car was never parked in a situation that it could have sustained the alleged damage while in my possession. I contested their findings and things soon got nasty, all the staff reared up on me and I felt quite intimidated. I signed the return form but stated on the form that I did not agree with the damage that they were highlighting. Within a half hour they had charged nearly £900 onto my credit card. I had taken out a third party insurance policy for the excess after I had booked the vehicle and read up on some reviews about them. It was too late to boo another car at that point though, hence the third party insurance. I refuse to claim on the insurance as I know that I was not responsible for the damage and I suspect that they regularly pull this scam with customers. How many times will they charge for that small dent? If I had been responsible, I would have held my hands up and claimed on the third party excess insurance that I had taken out. I have raised a dispute with my credit card company and will go all the way to court if necessary as it is the principle of getting scammed rather than the financial burden that annoys me.

I rented a vehicle for 4 days and when I tried to extend by one day, they suddenly pushed thr price up by 400%. They only answer late and are vague in their response then refuse to take telephone calls but also do not follow up return emails. Some staff feed you far fetched stories about the vehicle being in demand therefore they escalate the price beyond what is reasonable (even though their yard is full of the same model) but then other staff tell you that it is a standard Head Office price, that it is the Head Office swindling you. The vehicle was dirty and the staff were not curteous. We are a London Listed Plc with lots of business that I will have my travel department divert to companies with more integrity. It will cost them far more than they extorted on this rental.

Green Motion Birmingham Airport When we got to the office to pick up the car we were given keys and told to go to a parking space about 150 metres away, when we got there the said car was not there. We went back to the office to be told it definitely was, we went back with the Green Motion employee who then went back to his office and then told us the car was now on level 5 of the multi storey car park, I asked “any idea where?” the reply was its on level 5. Eventually he agreed to go and find the car and drove to the car park exit at great speed and stopping it in front of us pointing the wrong direction. This delay cost us an hour of our time leaving us late for an appointment. five weeks later i received an email from Green Motion saying that the car had been given a parking charge that I was liable for, they attached an invoice for £68 and had already taken the money from my credit card. I then received a letter from Bristol City Council demanding payment of £50 for the PCN. I contacted Green Motion who advised me that the £68 paid to them was for their administration fee NOT for the payment of the PCN. An awful service and a rip off company.

Avoid at all costs! I booked a hire car with Green Motion and the company claimed I caused a scratch on the front bumper. I categorically did not cause this damage in any way and told them so, but the Green Motion member of staff escorted me to the front desk and made me feel like I had no choice but to be charged almost £500, as the company had my deposit and were claiming I caused the damage. I suspected this was a scam payment but I allowed them to take this payment under protest. I was really unhappy but felt like I was being coerced into agreeing so that I could leave. I actually had already booked my own excess insurance as I usually do when hiring cars, so thought I could sort this through them. However when I phoned the insurance company hey informed me that they specifically do not cover Green Motion due to 'the high number of fraudulent charges this company makes for damage not caused by the driver'. I've done some research and it looks like Green Motion regularly try to scam their customers, as laid out in this BBC article.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-46974240 Avoid, and don't forget that your own excess insurance may not cover Green Motion - loads of them don't.

i've dealt with some shameful car hire companies in my time, but these guys take the biscuit. one person in the office, keeping me waiting for half an hour and actually locking the office (with me inside) while he went out to book a car in, the system crashing and then taking ages to reboot, and then claiming my credit card didn't work when they had actually already taken the deposit, refusing to give me the car and then abandoning the booking. i then had their blocked deposit on my card so there wasn't enough credit to book with another company. i asked them to clear the block immediately, they said they'd call back, and of course they never did. deal with them at your peril

I never leave bad reviews but everything about this transaction felt like a total scam. First, the location is Not actually at the airport. Then, I booked a car for 3 days at $180… The total cost after all the fees and tricks was over $400. Not counting the $50 I spent on the cab rides to get there and back. Just save yourself the time and money and book one of better established companies actually at the LHR terminal.

If I could do negative 10 I would. Rented from them in Edinburgh and bought FULL coverage from them. They then charged- not a hold but a hard charge of 2500.00 on our card. Returned car with minimal scratch due to first time driving on different side of the road and car. They’ve now kept the deposit plus rental fee plus FULL INSURANCE! I’m the CEO of a Public Relations firm and will be emailing every media and influencers contact I have to make sure they all know what a scam company they are and we’ve reported them to Uk equivalent of the USA BBB- and I’ll continue to post reviews warning everyone I know of that this “car rental” is just a terrible dodgy scam and hope it was worth it to them to screw us. We’ve also contacted our credit card company! Don’t be fooled by their lower prices- it’ll bite you in the ass 100 times over!

This company runs a scam. When you return the car they find a minute mark on it and charge you an astronomical fine for ‘damage’. Don’t use them.

Highly deceptive and predatory. Avoid at all costs! I rarely write reviews but this company is horrific. I booked and prepaid for a car. On pick up they aggressively pushed additional insurance. I already had this secured elsewhere, and this has never been an issue with dozens of other rental companies. I refused their vulturous 300% markup. In the end they were polite, allowed me to cancel, saying that I would be refunded within the week, and even pointing me towards a nearby alternative renter. Quite helpful. But — they straight up lied! They later refused to return my money. To be clear I never used their service, and their own staff said I canceled within the timeframe and promised a full refund. Yet this company still refused to return the paid amount — to this day! I have since reported Green Motion for fraud to Consumer Protection. So again — do yourself a favour and go with a more reputable company. The listed price is not the price!! Save a day of queueing, rebooking, and stress. And save yourself from being robbed by a wholly fraudulent company. Beyond unprofessional they seemed to revel in the upset caused. Vile people. As further evidence, please look up the Guardian write up on Greenmotion's practices. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2018/jun/09/green-motion-car-hire-bills I hope this helps others. Don't ignore all the bad reviews!

They are a horrible and a disastrous company I’ve never seen a company like that before in my entire life. I don't understand how the 3rd party company's still do business with them. I was very very disappointed with them at Manchester airport, starting with the bus service and till the return of the vehicle. they need to know THATS NOT THE WAY YOU DO BUISSINESS

Stay away from GreenMotion: brake problems put my family in danger I recently rented a car from GreenMotion and had a very concerning experience with the car they provided me. The car I had booked was a Toyota Yaris, but upon arrival, I was given a Fiat Panda. This was already frustrating, but what really alarmed me was the fact that the replacement car they gave me had brake problems. As I was driving on the highway with my family, I noticed that the brakes were not working properly. This put us in a very dangerous situation and had me questioning the safety of the car rental company. It was clear that the brakes had not been properly checked and maintained. Their lack of urgency and concern for our safety was appalling. They took their time in getting us a replacement car, leaving us stranded and stressed on the side of the road. This experience was very upsetting, and I would not recommend anyone to rent from GreenMotion. In my opinion, it is unacceptable for a car rental company to provide a vehicle with brake problems to their customers. Safety should be the top priority, and it was clear that GreenMotion did not take this matter seriously. I strongly advise anyone looking for a reliable and safe car rental company to consider other options. FYI, I tried multiple times to reach out to Customer Service by phone and e-mail. They simply don't respond.

I never left a business transaction feeling more used and depressed. Was told on arrival that the full insurance cover i had bought on booking was not full cover and was all but coerced into buying full cover from them at £50 a day . I note however on their website equivalent cover is £25 a day. The “discount” i was given brought this to £39 a day. Thanks for the generosity Ritz. Was also told they would refund the cover i already paid for which was one of many lies. At the end was told i would get the refund through the booking i had made originally. Another lie, Was told i would get an upgrade to a new car. Lie. the car had 10000 miles on the clock and was dirty and in poor condition inside. I was effectively told if i did not buy full protection they would almost certainly charge me for minor damage and i was not covered - i was, albeit through a claim back process although this company is notorious for charging for and allegedly inventing minor damage so please make sure you have full excess coverage. I have paid more than twice the advertised cover price, £300 over the odds for insurance and have probably the worst car i have ever rented to boot. These guys allegedly have more complaints against them than any other car hire company and dealing with has made me feel sick cheated and depressed and would like to prevent anyone else having a similar experience.

Bunch of crooks. They’ll try everything to rob you. Be very careful about vehicle condition and any extras because they will try to add on exorbitant costs. I’d suggest just using a more reputable company. As others have said they try to charge you for damage you didn’t cause so they can claim on insurance. I’ve reported to trading standards because their conduct is fraudulent

This company is a con. It comes across as cheaper than other companies out there but they do pointless charges for damage you haven't caused, it will end up being more expensive by far. We rented a car through a third party website and we even got insurance for the insurance excess of the car through RAC since we had already read the bad reviews. When we returned the car, Green motion charged us for a scratch that was already on the alloy. When we claimed it from our insurance they rejected the claim since they have a clause which explicitly excludes any claim raised as a result of doing business with Green motion rental. This means that even the insurance company knows that this is a shabby company because of the pointless claims they make on their clients. Don't give them the benefit of the doubt like we did, you will waste your time and money! Update: This is the first time I am seeing an insurance company excluding a car rental company explicitly on their terms and conditions. Also your company was the **only** company that was excluded in the T&C soooooo. I will leave the interpretation of this to the customers.

Terrible customer service at Newcastle, UK! We arrived at 19:30 to be told by unfriendly and 'hangry' employee that: a) my credit card was not accepted as it only required a signature. This was not my fault as I had used exactly the same credit card with exactly the same conditions at exactly the same Green Motion office 3 months earlier. Difference was that the office manager served us in February 2023 ( excellent service!). b) After explaining politely to employee Mr M. that my credit card has a PIN (compulsory) and I can give this to him, he said his system only shows authorisation with a signature but 'unfortunately' he could not show me any proof of this and we have to pay £200 extra cover. I had already paid extra and booked with excess cover so I refused to pay this and asked to see the manager. Employee said no manager was available and we can get a taxi back to the airport if we don't want the car! He also guilt-tripped us by saying his manager would get the sack as he should not have accepted my credit card in February. c) As we were reliant upon the rented car at 8pm, we paid the £200 extra but wanted to check the car before signing for it. The employee said he closed at 8pm, we should check it quickly with our phone torches. He made no attempt to help us and stated behind the counter in the office. It was dark outside & difficult to see any possible damage as the car was also filthy. d) As I went back to report 2 unnoted scratches, employee Mr M. got very irate and stated that, due to my surname, it is clear that I know about Ramadan and I am deliberately holding him back from back from breaking his fast! Totally unprofessional, intimidating & unhelpful customer service with dubious methods of payments. An official complaint was filed.

Booked and paid for hire vehicle via online broker. On arrival to pick up vehicle at Glasgow Airport I provided all required documents and financials. I was asked to pay an additional excess waiver fee which I declined following which they said I had been denied insurance cover and they simply cancelled my booking. Abandoned without a vehicle for a week long family holiday which I had confirmed and paid for. Customer representative was totally disinterested and unhelpful. Said I needed to seek refund from the broker and refused to take any responsibility. Even refused to give me a lift back to airport terminal (they are not on site and provide a shuttle bus). This company lures customers via online brokers with low fees and then slugs you with unreasonable undisclosed charges at the pick up. If you refuse to pay them they simply don’t honour the agreement. I remain out of pocket and majorly inconvenienced with no available rental alternative during a peak period. Green Motion won’t even engage in resolving the problem. Unprofessional, dishonest and rude. Avoid this outfit at all costs.
