I cannot express enough how disgusted I am with the experience I had with Halfords McConechys Autocentre in Lockerbie. I took my car in to fix a flat tyre. The guy told me that he couldn't find a puncture and would need a new tyre. I was too naive to question this and had my autistic son in the car but have since read this is a common scam. Charged me over £70 for this new tyre and stated "your car is falling apart". He proceeded to offer to look over the car and give me a price for everything that needed fixed, as they offer a pay-it-up service. He came back with an almost £900 set of repairs and a full service. I want to point out that the guy said absolutely nothing about any issues with the cooling system. I accepted this, scared that if I took the car elsewhere, it would still need £900 worth of repairs but other small garages would not have a pay-it-up option. I have since read that this has happened to other people who then took their cars to other garages who fixed all repairs for significantly less. I booked my car in for these repairs, they carried them out and handed me a break-down of the work in an invoice. I drove my car from the Halfords in Lockerbie to the Tesco, 0.3 miles away. I went food shopping, which took about 1.5 hours. When I returned to the car, there was a substantial puddle underneath. I drove it the 0.3 miles back to Halfords and pointed this out. They confirmed that I had a leak in my cooling system and he would take a look at it. About 2 hours later I got a phone call stating that my cooling system was "cracked" and that I would need a replacement costing almost £300. Oh but don't worry, they would just add this on top of the other almost £900 bill in the payment plan that I already had set up. They said that they highly advise against driving as it was dangerous and I had my children with me, so my only option was to have them fix this issue and foot the extra almost £300 bill. Not only was this coolant system never an issue with my car, but he also charged me almost £200 for a "complete service" which showed absolutely nothing wrong with the cooling system, or surely he would have flagged this up sooner. Now, within this "complete service" - according to Halford's OWN WEBSITE - they check the cooling system. HOWEVER when I exclaimed that I should not have to pay for damage that was CLEARLY done within the garage, the assistant manager then said they were "nowhere near the cooling system". So not only are they suggesting that this damage was done within a 0.3 mile drive to Tesco, by their own admission, this would then mean that the "full service" they charged me for was not actually carried out correctly. On top of all of this dodgy experience, I was due to go on holiday with my kids the next day so I asked for a time to collect the car and was told 11am. I was due to leave at 9am, so had no choice but to push my leaving time by 2 hours. I expressed this to the mechanic/liar and he then confirmed that yes, the car would be ready for 11am. I phoned at 10.30am the next day as I had not heard from the garage. An uninterested response was "aw aye the parts have JUST ARRIVED". I again expressed that I had places to be and he gave no sh*ts, just said he would phone when it was ready. I had 2 very excited little kids waiting, so I went into Lockerbie to wait. I sat in the Tesco car park as I was legitimately wracked with anxiety due to the whole ordeal. I phoned again to be told that the part was in, but not only do they "huv tae bleed it" but they didn't even have the coolant needed to fill it. Interesting, seeing as they knew the day before that they needed this coolant. I admittedly lost it at this point, stating that not only were they incompetently handling this, but also having the cheek to charge me for it as clearly they had damaged it in the first place. He was offended, because OBVIOUSLY the very very common stereotype of a dodgy, scamming, lying mechanic is just fabricated from nowhere, right? He got the regional manager to phone me. She was polite, but was clearly angry that I had the gall to question the integrity of her staff and in turn was questioning my own integrity. I kept pointing out that this car went into the garage with no cooling system damage and left the garage with cooling system damage - doesn't take a genius. Her staff were saying they were nowhere near the coolant system yet had charged nearly £300 for a full service in which they are SUPPOSED TO CHECK THE COOLANT SYSTEM. She agreed to take the expense off my file but made sure to say that she thinks that it could have been damaged in the 2 mins it takes to drive 0.3 miles on a completely undamaged, straight road. I then had to go home, as we had no car to take to the holiday. They even had the cheek to phone at 2.30pm and say it was ready, knowing full well it was 3.5 hours late. Arrogant, scamming, lying, incompetent clowns. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Went for my precooked air conditioning check at Halfords Unit 1, Trunk Road Retail Parl, Middlesbrough, to be told that it wouldn’t be done today. ‘I’ve only got one man’. No apology. Customer service? Don’t make me laugh! Halfords? Never again.

After not being very impressed by kwikfits last service on my car and van I refused to take it back to them this year and thought id try halfords Rochdale branch for once instead. I’ve just got my car back from a major service and MOT, before the car was picked up I was phoned and told all 4 wheels needed to be balanced for an extra charge of £30+ so I said yes go on then (my wife uses the car daily with the kids in so that why I always have a major service as I want the car as safe as possible). When i got home from worked and took a quick look at the wheels all the old weights were on and no new weights so I phoned them and the manager Paul answered and said it had been done so I said no it hasn’t as all the old weights would have been stripped and new weights on so I said you need to ask the guy who has supposedly done it, to which he came back and said no it’s not been done...... so I just asked for the refund of the wheel balancing. So today I learnt halfords autocentre Rochdale are just as bad as kwikfit and also can’t be trusted to carry out the work you pay for and makes me feel really uneasy my wife and kids are driving round in a car that I have no faith at all that they have carried out any of the other requirements to fulfil a major service eg: engine oil/brake fluid change and the filters changed. Shouldnt feel like this after a major service from a mainstream company it’s very disappointing.

I booked my car for MOT and oil service. The car was left at the Warwick branch at 8:15. The time is now 17:00 and the car is not ready yet. They called me saying the MOT has failed due to some suspension arms. Fair enough. I asked them, why did you not have a look at the car first, before the actual test, since it was part of the service package I paid for ("Full Service and MOT"). It would have helped to not have a failed MOT test. I could have repaired it first and only after to have the test done. No proper answer. Anyway, they quoted me roughly £240 for the repair to be carried out. I refused their offer as I thought it's too much. Ringed a garage I used before and they quoted me £130 for the same work. As a conclusion, personally, I will never use their services again. They're not only greedy, but they're also, frankly, not very smart. A check before the actual test would have convinced me to go ahead with that repair as I wanted the MOT test passed and done with it.

I had tyres fitted at Savile St. They got the pressure wrong and then said having tyres under inflated was neither here or there. When shown the plate on the car showing the required pressure- it was still the same response. Awful attitude to customers.

Booked my car into Norwich (barker st.) Centre for a brake check and air con check as I probably needed new pads and also air con regas. I was told to get the car to them ten minutes before the 10am appointment. They also advised that the air con check was to be done by their retail store side of the business so I would have to take it to them at 10:45 (on the same site). So I left the car with them expecting a call. Over an hour later I returned to find the car hadn't moved. I did complain as I had by this time missed the other appointment in the retail store and the car had just sat on their car park. The man on reception who looked like he just walked in of the street said "well I shouldn't even be in today and we only have one mechanic in". Why advise customers to get the car to them 10 minutes before the appointment, if there is no appointment! I collected my car drive straight to a another garage and gave them my business. I will now never set food in. Halfords again.

Had my tracking and alignment done 2 weeks ago traveling done the m25/m4 today heard a loud knocking sound . Called green flag out only to find out that when you put the front wheel back on you didn’t tighten the wheel nuts up properly. Was going to have more work done from you ( replace front spring major service) now you have lost a customer plus bad reviews on social media. Could have caused a major accident or worst. Very shocking work !

I booked my car in for new tyres for Friday 28th May at Sutton Halfords Autocentre. I had previously checked with Halfords helpline that the tyres I purchased would fit my vehicle (I have a transcript of the conversation). No mention was made that these tyres would be illegal if fitted to my car. When I arrived at the garage I was told that the tyres are commercial and would be illegal if fitted to my car. The person at the garage said he would attempt to book my tyres and fitting at Croydon Halfords. I've just received a phone call from Halfords to say that they cannot fit my tyres until Tuesday at the earliest. This has really badly let me down. We were hoping to travel to visit relatives this weekend but cannot do this now. I wish I spent time making arrangements at a reliable tyres centre. Instead my time has been wasted at Halfords. I'm really appalled.

Avoid Halfords Chester like the plague! Took them 10 days to fix my car (and it still isn't right). Fobbed me off every two days when I rang to see what was happening with the repair. Ended up having to go in to see what the delay was and they hadn't even bothered to order the part! Diabolical service and dishonest too (they had previously charged me for unnecessary work because, I believe, they guessed what the problem was instead of looking at it). Dreadful.

Travelling through Lymington my tyre pressure warning light came on. I tend to panic at dashboard lights! Google showed me there was a Halfords fairly near so I drove there and a very nice gentleman immediately checked and reset all the tyre pressures for me. A little thing I know but it meant I could continue my journey stress free.

I called into the centre in Montrose to get advice about a battery I had bought online from Euro Car Parts but which i couldn't get to fit in my car. It turned out to be the wrong battery. The Halfords manager ordered the correct replacement and fitted it himself first thing the following day....and it was the same price as the "discounted" one from Euro which I returned and got my money back. The service at the Montrose centre was first class - professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend them.

Halford is a con artist, I took my car there to first originally replace a puntured tyre, as soon as I left 1/2 mile, my dashboard indicated a drop in tyre pressure, being in a rush to collect kids from school, I decided to go to the petrol station to fill the pressure after I picked my kids, giving Halford benefit of the doubt that maybe the tyre was faulty. Days later, the dashboard lit up indicating low pressure again, took it back to Halford and they said there's a screw in the middle of the new tyre and I had to pay £25 to repair. So I paid up. Then I drove 1/2 mile out the garage, my dashboard indicated low pressure again. Took it back, they said there was another screw and this time I must pay to replace it and then I noticed screws on there floor garage. They have not taken care whilst changing or repairing my tyre when it was their fault they put screws in my car tyre. They are so wrong, it's unbelievable. Seeing me as a vulnerable young women. They said they will not refund.
