Halfords motoring club. Supposed to be free for members, but con you into paying after 3 months and taking automatic renewals.Must read terms and conditions first.Don't believe their employees when they say it's free to join.Always thought Halfords was a reputable company.Didn't expect them to resort to devious tactics hidden in their terms and conditions.Very annoyed and disappointed.

NOT HAPPY. I was booked up for a MOT at the Basildon branch of National tyres and auto care for Dec 1st ( in advance ) but was sent a message to my phone as I missed the call to say that the MOT machine is not working properly. I decided to phone the branch in Grays to see if they could fit me in which they kindly did for Dec 4th. When I got there they had absolutely no idea about my appointment, let alone no MOT man on site. This sort of disappointment is unfortunately not my first experience. I have since cancelled my new so called motoring club membership and asked for my money back. Have now booked up for Friday 8th in a local garage. Thanks to this company my car is now illegal to use till to use till then. I’m unlikely to ever use Halfords again.

Went to Yeovil national tyres, for four new perelli tyres including fitting, ended up leaving with two bent sidesteps, apprentice left to fit tyres unsupervised causing the car steps to be bent while lifting on ramp. The other staff were sat in the office on their mobile phones while the damage was done. £600.00 spent on tyres ended up with another £300.00in damages. They did offer to bend steps back but I left as enough damage was done and I had no faith in the staff,I would not recommend, will never use again ,leaving very unsatisfied,

Same story as many on here - booked in for MOT in Letchworth - dropped my car off then got the call that their MOT inspector had not turned up so they couldn't do my MOT. No new spaces to book in for week.

Booked an MOT with Halfords Ripon Road Branch in Harrogate North Yorkshire on 7 October 2023. Received a text message that afternoon from their Manager stating that the vehicle had failed due to the condition of the two front tyres and in the same message they quoted £287.96 to replace them. Even though there was 5mm tread on both front tyres Halfords still failed them stating that there was a cut in the tread. When I questioned their decision Halfords attempted to demonstrate by prising open the rubber tread and shining a torch into the tread to try and expose some cord. Which they failed to do. Another MOT centre we visited advised that according to criteria for assessing cuts in tyres the tyres should have been passed. According to DVSA criteria for assessing cuts in tyres; before failing a cut, you must make sure it's cords that you can feel and not a foreign object. If you're not sure, then you should pass and advise. We had the two front tyres replaced elsewhere and even the tyre bay company questioned why the the tyres needed to replaced. The cost was half what Halfords had quoted. The vehicle has been retested at Halfords and the tyres have been retained for any further inspection purposes.

I booked my wife's car in for a service and MOT at the Ure Street, Dundee branch. No issues with the work, the oil was renewed and the filter was replaced. The booking was in early September 2023 and the work was all completed on the same day. It is now 19th October and the service book still hasn't been stamped despite me phoning them twice a week. Evidently it takes at least seven weeks to replace a lost service stamp, which seems unlikely. More likely is they are playing silly buggers. So now it is City of Dundee Trading Standards and let's see how they get on with the issue.

New motoring club member. Paid for the year. Then booked and paid for a full service. Scheduled work/ life/ kids school around the booking and the potential of leaving the car there for a full day. All good so far. High Wycombe Branch - cancelled one hour before scheduled booking. No legitimate reason just fluff and bad diary management. The hilarious thing - upon signing up for Halfords, paying and then booking a service did I then decide to look for reviews - my fault. I should have performed my Due Diligence before signing up However the Halfords is a known nationwide brand so didn’t occur to me to do this - again my fault. The reviews on here and across the board are awful, people being overcharged, scammed, mid-sold and mid-led, awful customer service, cancelled on last minute - the bad reviews and reasons are endless. I had a very uneasy feeling and regretting signing up and booking and felt stupid for signing up without doing my DD. Day of the service and what do you know - cancelled by them an hour before. Should I get my refund this is probably the best outcome as I am. It confident that the service would be performed correctly, professionally or with my best interest in mind.

Booked tyre change, technician cancelled last minute after giving the time slot on the day without giving the reason, I had to cancel all the plans for the weekend to find replacement service. Unreliable and poor customer service.

Crawley branch - poor attitude from the guy in the office. They love to fly through MOT’s but aren’t too interested in offering the repair work. Was told if I can’t get anyone to do the work within the 10 days that is my problem (which factually is true, but as an attitude just poor)

I watched the technician drive my camper into boxes and gas bottles and they couldn't care less. Avoid. Went for a diagnostic issue and they told me to go to a dealer after poking it for an hour.

So, front lower ball joint dust covers deteriorated and failed MOT. The dust covers cost £6.40. As Halfords wanted to replace half the car at a cost of £900, I did it myself at a leisurely pace in less than 2 hours. Then the £15 retest ! The retest booking was for 12.40 hrs; very precise and I thought that was a dedicated appointment. On the day, pressed for time, I enquired if I could be fitted in earlier. I was told that all retests are based on “drop off and leave it with us” but as only one tester was working then there were no guarantees. I may have formed the wrong impression but it seems to me that not only do Halfords come up with the most expensive repair solutions for MOT work they also have little interest in accommodating £15 MOT retests for those who wisely chose not to rely on their services for such repairs.

AVOID at all costs. My appointment was at 0830. Due to London traffic I arrived 6mins late. I then waited a couple of minutes to be seen, at which point I said, "Hi sorry I'm a little late, I have an MOT booked for 0830". The manager said, "Not anymore you don't. You've missed your slot." I questioned this, highlighting the new set of roadworks on Gunnersbury lane, and I was only 9mins late (at this point). He said if I had been 5minutes late that would have been okay, but 10minutes late he has to reschedule. I mentioned that I had been waiting for a couple of minutes and that my MOT was expiring today. He didn't care. The next appointment would be a week later. I will NEVER use Halfords again and strongly advise others to avoid.

I booked a mobile tyre replacement for a Sunday 4-8pm fitting. I made a screen shot of the booking, received a confirmation email and checked my credit card was charged £186. They never came. I called but they had no record of the booking. Their brilliant suggestion was to make another booking and pay another £186 and they will look into a refund for the first booking. I will not be using this awful service again.

DO NOT use this company i left my car with halford to be repaired after they damaged the vehicle. I have been trying to contact them for month to get this sorted and I have now just received a letter to say my car has been impounded as they have left it down a random road. I left my vehicle in their possession. This is an absolute joke. Halford are possible the worse company ever!!. STAY AWAY

Pay cheap, pay twice. My MOT expires tomorrow. I booked a test at Halfords three months ago. Turned up today for the test and it's at National Tyres (bought out by Halfords) and they don't have an MOT tester. Not just today but on any day. The guy at the desk is really apologetic and said Halfords keep taking MOT bookings for his garage and he can't do them. With a sick mother I need the car every day do I've had to pay again and also get a taxi back to my mother's because they can't promise to do the MOT until the end of the day. Halfords customer services put you in a queue and it's been over half an hour. Nothing.

Don't use Halfords Autocentre High Wycombe. My prebooked MOT was cancelled at short notice because they had no testing staff available for that day. Is it a coincidence there was an England football match on the day of my MOT?! I asked to speak to the manager to complain, when I asked him for his name he hesitated before he said Dave. I then asked for his surname he refused to give this because it's his private information. Despite my requesting many times for his surname so I could verify he was indeed the manager, he refused to impart it. Any trust I had for them was lost by Dave's refusal to confirm who he was. I also cancelled the service I had with them so the loss of business is also Dave's fault. I would let my car anywhere near them for fear of it being mistreated or claims that more work is needed to it to boost the cost. I would not recommended anyone uses this company for MOT or servicing their vehicles. Oh and one more thing - the regional manager Ryan has yet to call me regarding my complaint and I have yet to receive the full refund. Avoid them at all costs. There are many good, reliable and trustworthy companies to use. The big brand name of Halfords is not one of them

My MOT booking was cancelled today, they said that it's system error which allowed me to book and they are fully booked. I went on to book other place from Halfords, turned out that discount code now won't work, so I would need to pay more than original booking they cancelled. Then, I thought, I better call the other garage to check if they ACTUALLY have the slots that system shows - and guess what? they don't ! they went as far as saying that booking system is a joke. It's needless to say they couldn't help me on the phone, neither on the chat - it was rather waste of time btw. I ended up booking with kwik fit, and awaiting refund (which I don't expect anytime soon after reading their policies)

Whilst fitting a shock absorber the Halfords garage broke my windscreen. They are offering to replace it with a generic rather than branded windscreen. Almost two weeks later and I can't get to speak with anyone senior to authorise branded replacement, just keep getting stalled whilst the senior managers hiding behind the unfortunate call centre staff. Looks like we may be off to the County Court!
