My son took his car to Halfords in Folkestone, passed the MOT but six weeks later left front wheel became detached, causing a collision with another vehicle. If he was on a motorway or A road he may of been seriously injured or worse. Went to see the manager but he was ignorant and so unhelpful, If you value your safety stay away from Halfords mot centre in Folkestone

I was really happy with the customer service received (10th August, 2020) for my recent MOT in Exeter Street Plymouth. The young lady ’Tulin’ I think her name was? Is a credit to your centre. Thank you very much Kind regards Mr C Brown London

I booked for an MOT and was contacted less than 24 hours before to be told the centre I had booked at was closing down so they had to move my booking. I then got a call from the new centre 2 hours before my new booking (and less then 24 hours before my MOT was due to expire) to be told they couldn't do the test because they didn't have a tester on site. When I asked why I was allowed to book on that day if there wasn't going to be a tester there he said to take it up with head office if I had a complaint. Thankfully Kwikfit are able to fit me in at short notice, so I'll be going there from now on.

I took my car for a free suspension check because I heard some noises when I was driving over bad roads. I'm an enthusiastic home mechanic wannabe, I have some limited tools and knowledge so I checked the suspension myself beforehand and couldn't find any problems, so I decided to have a professional take a look at it just to be sure. So I took the car to them, the check happened, and I get a call from them about the results. I know I've got bad tyres although they are still legal so they aren't priority. They said my rear engine mount is bad which could case noises and vibration, and I noticed it myself that the gearstick moves when accelarating. However here comes the scam part. On the phone the guy asked whether I hear noises when breaking. I said yes, some squeal when braking lightly. So he said my brake caliper brackets were bad, and I was quoted 220£ each to replace them on both sides. Now my car had new pads and rotors fitted a year ago. They just needed some copper grease to make them quiet which I have done today myself. No issues whatsoever with my brake caliper brackets, or any part with my front brakes. Now I didn't get scammed because I know some stuff. But someone who has no clue about cars would've gotten ripped off by almost 500£. I'm shocked to experience this, don't know if it's because I'm young, a foreigner, or this just happens to everybody regardless of age or nationality.

The first time we've used Halfords Autocentre, and having a terrible experience. We took our car in for a routine service before a long trip we need to make, and 10 minutes after picking up the car today, it broke down. My husband was left stranded with no hard shoulder on the A406. They also left the car with a dent in the bonnet. Just to clarify there was nothing wrong with the car before the service (no dent either!), and they were replacing disk breaks, brake pads and a timing belt only, which were not 100% necessary but advisable. Now there seems to be a major issue with the car, as well as an unexplained dent and after ringing them they spoke to us as if they had no time at all to sort it out, stating they were clocking off at 5:30. If we bring the car on a breakdown truck to the forecourt we can't leave the keys anywhere so have been told we need to travel back again tomorrow to give them the keys. We're supposed to be setting off on Saturday for an important trip and judging by the service so far we are doubtful they're going to help us get it working in time (took about a week and half to get the car back the first time). They are clearly taking far too much work on with many cars backed up, and the customer service and workmanship is clearly suffering. We've already paid for the 'service' which seems to have both dented and damaged our car so we can only hope that they will fix whatever problem it is, or we will have to take it to a reputable garage and pay again, to fix the problem they've caused (I think it's highly unlikely that this problem is unconnected to the service since we've never had a problem before and it broke down literally 10 minutes from the garage). After speaking to customer services for Halfords Autocentre I also do not hold out much hope of improving service judging by solutions offered by the customer service representative. Let's see if any of this gets sorted in a professional and reasonable manner given the circumstances, and if so I'll be happy to amend this review. At the moment I would strongly advise not to use Halfords Autocentre in any capacity.

I booked my MOT with Acton.London branch 3 days ago online....it was for 8.30am .. at 8.15am...got a call from Javelin saying their machine is down. The reason for calling now was they were extremely busy .... really sorry... I was booked in for a test near by later on in the morning same day....but still no call from Javelin...how was I to know to go there for the MOT??? Disasterous experience..totally unacceptable. ..

We paid over £400 for a service at Halfords in Woking. We said that there was a creaking noise that the car made. They returned the car after service and supposedly test driving it. The noise was there immediately. We took it back to them and they quoted another £160 to fix the problem. They are an absolute joke - just out to make money, which the manager actually said to my face “we are here to make money.” Avoid avoid avoid. I wish I could give them 0 stars because I am sure even the £400 service was us being totally ripped off.

AVOID! My wife took her car for an MOT to Halfords Hedge End Southampton and was told that the front brakes had failed and were dangerous and that we should replace all pads and discs. Quoted £600. Took it to another MOT Test Station to get the work done, they said that the car should never have failed the test. Whist they recommended changing front pads, they were still legal. Have taken this up with Halfords, but because we didn't keep the brake pads they are doing nothing about it and effectively saying they don't believe us or the other Garage. Great Customer Service Halford's way to go!

I was misled into having my brakes fitted at Halfords with the promise of brakes for life - At the first attempt of using this service it has been made quite clear to me that it is not worth the paper it is written on complete scam and waste of money and time

Have a Major Service and MOT done, got a phone call to say Brakes were excessively worn(their words), quoted me £450 for new discs and pads for the front of my Golf 1.4, I said it isn't a Golf R, that sounds expensive, the fella said it has a lifetime guarantee, I said don't do it, I phoned Kwik Fit for a quote, they quoted £236, I took it to Kwik Fit today, after 30 mins the Kwik Fit guy said, we'd love to do it for you and charge you, but the work doesn't need doing sir, you have more than 50% left on your fronts discs and pads, and 65% on the rears!!! Avoid Halfords Autocentre on Long Barn Lane in Reading!!

Took my BMW X3 in for full service at a cost of £239.99p. Got phone call trying to get me to do things that didn’t need doing at high cost.car is only 3 year old so told them to just do service. Anyway picked up the car and the invoice detailing the work done !. Car showing 27212 miles on the clock. Service invoice says 84005 miles !. After numerous calls to Halifax Halfords nobody seems to care or be able to rectify the error. Not good for my service record ?

Thanks for taking 4 weeks to repair my lambda sensor. With 0 communication and constantly having to chase the workshop up. Definitely the sort of customer services that makes people want to return to your workshops. I’ll be sticking to my local garages from now on.

I wish I could do 10 stars I was at a skatepark about 5 minutes away from one of the MOT centres in byfleet and my bmx wheel needed a really quick fix I had a choice to either walk home 30 mins or get it fixed somewhere literally could find nothing around but an MOT center. I called in and asked for a unusual request of fixing a bike real quick they said surprisingly said they can do it I went there they were super friendly, fixed my bike in 2 mins and literally wanted no money for it. Literal legends

HALFORDS AT RUNCORN. Booked offer,(214.99p) on full MOT/ Service, am old age pensioner, phone call to say rear tyre needs replacing! bought 4 tyres 2 years ago, less than 5000 miles on them, they say well umm, bulge in the side of wall I must have hit something,(cost £62.99p), have not had a problem of any kind with this tyre, they said you are unable to see it. Bulb on right headlight needs replacing, told them was replaced a few weeks ago at cost of £20 at local Halfords shop! they then said wouldn't charge for that!(cost £26.45p), however they have) within a few hours rang to say reverse light not working strange as I reverse out of drive on regular basis, my children or someone would have told me, re; Safety! no one has said anything about this, went on to say Oh, afraid not the bulb because is the sensor switch!(cost £75.66p),(fault can be intermittent) told advisory, sorry I do not believe a word any of above, I truly believe Halfords are just trying to rip customers off to pay for your wages, easy money preying off people whom rely on your honesty to maintain their vehicles, to remain safe on the roads. Total Cost- £380.09 Several phone calls throughout the day, initial ring then would cut off after 2 rings on 3 occasions, I had to ring back each time. when they were ringing me re; advisory? no tyre if at all that day car may have to be kept overnight, sensor part? (more tactics) I have not requested the bulb charge back as am far too upset to confront them, so all in all my headlight bulb replaced twice within a month has cost me £46.45P. extortionate!, unnecessary, as this could have been checked on the email data bulb was initially replaced at Halfords shop! I will now ensure friends and family are aware of the way Halfords obtain business, how it works, certainly well trained tactics for salesmen. How to rip off customers while preying on the vulnerable, due to the fact no-one wants to drive a faulty car. OUR SAFETY IS IN THEIR HANDS. I have now been provided local business's who are reliable, trustworthy and competent within their trade, not corporate business as above. I am in the process of appealing refers, as stated at www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot
