Halfords Tunbridge Wells quoted me £1500 for cam belt and water pump on Skoda octavia, euro Skoda main dealer did job for £780 . When I rang Halfords the man said wow . Must be embarrassing for him to work for a bunch of rip off merchants . Make sure you get prices from honest garages so you don’t get caught out by them

I took my car into halfords autocentre in Loughborough for a minor sensor repair ,I wasn't given a fixed price but was told it was an easy job to do and i watched a video of it on google,a simple bolt to be undone and When I picked my car I got a bill for £293.I was charged for a new oil filter which was only 3 months old and 3.5litres of oil. I could have bought these from their own shop for £25 but was somehow charged £72.I wasn't asked if I wanted any additional work done and looks like I have been charged 3 hours labour for a 30 minute job. I feel ripped off and over charged

My Girlfriend took her car in to change a headlight bulb and they done a so called free 5 point check on the car, which didn't actually happen, no one done a check on the car, then sent an email saying there's an issue with the battery that they never checked, the email stated 'they couldn't find the location of the battery and that she needs to call the autocentre to book the car, FOR WHAT? 1. your fully trained staff can't find a battery 2. The battery is clearly fine as there's no issues with the battery 3. Stop trying to con people with the fear that the car is not safe to drive creating stress and anxiety

Halfords Feltham wrongly charged double the amount of the Air con service they did on my car in Jun 2021. They filled in the old air con gas instead of the new one that they claim to have put and charged £100 for that, whereas the old air con was only £50 worth. In Aug, the air con again stopped working and I had to take the car back to them. They wanted to again charge £50 for gas refill which I refused to pay and that is when they admitted to wrongly charging me the last time. Pathetic service and I am never going back there again

Booked my car in for a service through motoreasy with Halfords Ellesmere Port. I use motoreasy for my GAP insurance and they do 40% off on services, so thought I’d give it a try and save my self money (over £100). I booked well in advance over a month as I needed to book the day off work and I like to be organised. Motoreasy and Halfords both confirmed the booking a few days later which I received an email to say booking confirmed and what time to arrive and price. I arrived at Halfords at 8:30am on the day of the service to be greeted by the manager asking if I was here for the motoreasy booking for a service, I was like yes I am, he seemed like he was expecting me. He said sorry we can’t see you as motoreasy hasn’t sent us anything. I said well it’s been confirmed and he said well we haven’t got anything from them so we can’t do it. So I said ok I will call motoreasy. They answered promptly and I told them the situation in which they reassured me Halfords has confirmed the booking. She said she will phone Halfords to ask what’s going on. She called me back and said I’ve spoke to the manager and he said he can’t do it today and can I come back Tuesday. I said no I’ve booked the day off hence why it was booked so in advance. She was so apologetic and as confused as I was. She said he is refusing to do it. She apologised on their behalf and cancelled the service so no payment was taken. Baffled by my experience I wanted to complain. So I called Halfords customer service I told me situation to Kalum who said this is not the service they want to provide and will speak to Halfords Ellesmere Port and a manager will be in touch with me to discuss my complaint. I have not heard from any management from Halfords and no one has contacted me to resolve my complaint. I was offered a messily MOT voucher which does not cover the cost of my service which I had to go elsewhere at double the price on the same day and be squeezed in somewhere else. Also why would I want to go back?! No apology from no one. I’ve called up since and spoke to Kalum to tell him no one had contacted me and he said he will try and chase it! This isn’t the first time I’ve had problems with Halfords Ellesmere Port, they also put the wrong brakes on my car (cheap ones) once placed my car was making horrendous noises constantly, I went back and they put the correct brakes on, luckily free of charge but this could of damaged my car! Despicable service! Do not recommend! Worst customer service!

Book and pay for an MOT 1 week in advance, take the car to Halfords inverness. Had over the keys and am told might not be possible to complete MOT today, and they have not even looked at the car. Wait 1 hour 20 minutes and the car has still not been looked at. What is the point in booking and paying form an MOT if they just take your money and do nothing? Absolutely useless management system, over booking in the pursuit of profit and useless, lazy, slow, poorly motivated technicians. Ended up taking the hit for £38 and will get MOT done at Quick Fit. STAY WELL CLEAR

The cost of a free MOT.. Halford was offering Free MOT, I checked their reviews online all seemed to be good, so I thought why not! If only I had known... On the day of MOT, my car failed due to tyres and a rear fog light bulb. As proof of the issues with my fog light, I was shown a dashboard alarm. I told them strange as I had never noticed that alarm before, and their flippant comment was I am probably too busy to notice. They changed one fog light at the cost of £40 yes £40!!. Sadly I was rushed off my feet so didn’t have time for a second opinion. After I picked up the car, I noticed a new issue with the lock on the driver’s side (not locking/unlocking when I drive off or use the key fob, and it’s making loud cranking noises instead). I called them within the hour, and as planned returned the next day. No surprises there when I turned up, it was yet another issue I was too busy to notice and they needed to contact Mercedes for a new lock, and I would have to pay for it. This is an issue that in a few days has not only set off my alarm numerous times but has stopped the door from shutting several times. A huge inconvenience to say the least, and although I drive my car twice daily at least, I seemed to have missed this issue too. Avoid AT ALL COST. The free MOT will cost you thousands, Stay away!!!

Tried to return my Halfords battery that had a 4 year warranty but failed after 16 months and would not charge. Auto depot swansea halfords told me they never give refunds, would not honour the warranty because they don't trust the customer, and then said with a smirk " have a nice day". Never buy a Halfords battery!

I had to appeal an MOT with DVSA! Halfords Autocentre York Rd failed the car with major defects on the suspension, requiring immediate repairs quoted at £360. The car had 18,026 miles on the clock and had recently been serviced with a clean bill of health. I therefore appealed to the DVSA who subsequently passed the MOT with not even advisory points.

Booked car for AC diagnosis for 11-30 however when arrived was informed that it would be late afternoon before it was ready why do you give a time when it could be 4 - 5 hours before it's ready total waste of time

Halfords have refused to post my review on their site so I'm putting it here. I booked online for my car's annual service & MOT at the Southend on Sea centre. I've used them for a couple of years & been both amused & annoyed by the attempts to sell extras & the lengthy 'advisory' list of work they claim needs doing that is invariably given. This year was different. Maybe they use profiling & had identified me as an ageing bloke who would accept whatever they said! The handover of the car was easy, the sales pitch for extra items avoided & I waited for the call that it was completed. I got the call – it had failed on the rear brakes with 'Brake discs significantly & obviously worn / corroded'. Interesting – there had been a verbal advisory that the discs were worn but within the limits the previous year (with a jaw dropping price quote for replacement) and I had the discs & pads replaced 7 or 8 months ago at another garage for about half Halford's quote. Halfords seemed quite surprised that I didn't agree to the work and I took the car back to the other garage. They checked the discs, nothing wrong, little wear, no corrosion & only 3 – 4000 miles done since fitting. So I put it in for an MOT at the centre they use – the brakes were fine but Halfords had missed a potentially dangerous fault in the steering (but fairly cheap to repair) that needed fixing before it passed its MOT. I contacted the DVSA who re-mot'd my car - nothing wrong with the brakes. They are visiting Halfords to investigate the unjustified failure. I will never use Halfords again. In common with the other national chains they are far more interested in meeting sales targets, pushing unnecessary and expensive repairs & selling extras rather than identifying actual faults. I'm certain they try it on with many customers who they think will accept whatever they say & pay their inflated prices. They're a bunch of cowboys - Avoid!

Took my Alfa Romeo for their free air-con diagnostics. Staff were friendly and told me it would be about an hour and a half. Went back then and it was ready. They had checked the system for leaks and all good but it was very low so they had topped it up but done so without calling me for consent. It was £50 and I wanted it done anyway so I didn't say anything but bad to do work without approval. Car was nice and cold on the 20 minute drive home but next morning no cold air. Called them and they said there is obviously a leak (well yes I guessed that!) but they could not explain how their system did not detect one the previous day when they tested it. Took a lot of arguing but they agreed to refund the £50 then told me I should get the car to a specialist for an aircon diagnostic!!! Useless.

Took my car in today for a free break check, after an hours wait for an estimated 30 mins wait I finally got my car back, only to be told all the break pipes were corroded, i thought ok i'll get those replaced then, they quoted me £900! to get them replaced, only to find out they charge £89 per hour for labour which is where over half the cost would have occured! Not impressed with your outlandish costs considering most over garages charge a whole lot less and and could do the same job for a lot lot less. never going back again!
