“VTNZ Takanini is great place to book your test if you love to be respected. Staff are really helpful.Specially thanks to Garry sir who is really good in his job.”
“On the day where the Qldc has put signs saying slippery road conditions, what a pathetic examiner telling a teenage drive faster ,the driver will drive to road conditions and not to your pathetic suggestions and get crashed when there is black ice ,Queenstown examiners absolutely ridiculous ,encouraging a particular driving school to go to ,are you paid commission from this person.”
“Silverdale VTNZ are money hungry *****
failed me multiple times regarding restricted driving test. many of those i think is complete BS and one immediate fail was caused by another inconsiderate road user. stupid company, rude testing officers (same with Westgate). overall just a fat scam.”
“Always been the best place to warrant your car, Boat, Bike! THAT WAS 10 YEARS AGO!!
Now it seen we are entering the socialist regime of VTNZ accompanied by the stupidity of the LTSA and labour government that could organised nada!.
There expensive. I long for the old days 😭😭 when a car was just car!”
“VTNZ is an organisation designed to extract money from your wallet and they are experts in their field.
There is a high percentage of foreign ownership and the minister of transport in tandem with NZTA / WAKA KOTAHI, have absolutely no control over this franchise.
The staff are quite simply incompetent and incentivised to meet financial targets through the deliberate process of failing vehicles for what can only be described as spurious reasons.
This is just another example of government incompetence and systemic failure.”
“Didn’t know it takes 2 hours to get a warrant, they don’t tell you that when you go in and pay, thought it would be convenient compared to dropping the car off at the local garage.
Not much urgency here, maybe the testers need to be incentivised”
“For some bizarre reason I was asked to do a review of Timaru. I have never been there! I suspect this was organised by Teviot st Dunedin after my review of them. Maybe they were stalking me. After all it is Dunedin. Just looking at the other reviews here there is obviously a systemic problem with. Vtnz. When they were in central Dunedin they were fast thorough and good. Pity they shut down the wrong branch.”
“Great place to book your test if you love to be disrespected and degraded. The staff are rude and exist to fail you in hopes of milking your wallet the next time you register. If you are planning on doing your driving test I advise you to steer clear.”
“The most insufferable humans you will ever meet in your life. blatantly rigged tests. horrible and obnoxious staff members. never been treated worse at any place in my life, constant disrespect. failed for absolutely no reason and the guy was not able to put into words why he failed me. absolutely pathetic company, worst place to go for your test hands down. Disgusting.”
“VTNZ Rosebank Road, Auckland. Terrible experince there. I got my motorhome checked and they found a few things, I got them fixed and went back just out of 28 days recheck and they found more things - why not the first time? So I get it fixed again and go back, they refused the recheck because it was an hour from closing time at 1pm. Why can’t a recheck be prioritised. Reception didn’t help. Escalated to manager and didn’t help. Never again.”
“VTNZ newlynn portage road, went for my driver's license renewal, there was an indian lady at the counter who was very rude and ignorant. Looking at my old license, the expiry was this month but the new license expiry was in 2033. I gave them both of my licence and they should have checked the expiry dates on my new card before they charged me money. When I got home, I found out that my new license wasn't expiring till 2033. I called VTNZ straight away and asked them for refund since it was a mistake and my license wasn't expiring this month at all. They were too busy to help on phone so I went back to newlynn VTNZ again. I told them what happened and asked for refund, the indian lady said to me they did what I told them, so I said to her I gave you guys my old and new license and you guys checked my both license before you charged me. The lady was very rude and blamed everything on me instead of taking half of her fault as well. I'm not going back there again.”
“VTNZ Arrogant, rude , verbally aggressive , not welcoming staff never ever met someone in New Zealand before … THE WORST PLACE TO GO FOR YOUR DRIVING TEST… they just want to repeat the test for money”
“VNNZ Westgate -
Appalling and rude service. I rung to book my daughters written driving test. Was told I could come up immediately and get it done. We arrive, wait in a queue to be told no, they are not doing anymore written tests today.
Come back tomorrow.
I explain that I had rung and what I was told, but no the woman involved has decided she isn’t doing anymore tests today.
She was and is very rude. Her attitude is terrible and she shouldn’t be dealing with the public.”
“The waiting time is ridiculous the first time i came it took 2hrs i am back because it failed for the rear tyre. I am current sitting for a re check on my tyres and it is a 1.5hours now. The to crown it the inspector has gone into the office now for 20minute. He was checking a motor bike as well and was having a conversation with the owner of the bike that to 27minutes this not good and you pay a ridiculous price of $78 for a test. The cars are backed up down the road.”
“Three times my partner re-sits practical test and I recommend you guys to take dash cam to prove your test experience. When I check a number of mistakes I agree with some, but some looks like nitpicking really. And I recommend to shoot your test on video, because I'm not sure about the objectivity of the assessment, and this can be disputed.”
“My car failed a VTNZ brake check, noting "Front brake pads too thin". This is less than 200KM after a registered dealer Service passed the pads in the MVI as being 4mm (Which is 40% remaining of pad). VTNZ then stated "this is just a visual check and if I can get the dealer to verify they are 4mm ( Which they kindly did) they would sign the warrant off as passed. VTNZ Consistency and Customer service during this whole situation was appalling.”
“Took my vehicle to VTNZ this Thursday morning (8am), lady on the desk was very friendly and Russell who did my warrant was very friendly and cheerful and check only took half hour. There were two other vehicles in front of mine, and they didn't take long either. A BIG Thank you to the Silverdale team for great service all round.”
“Took my car in today and the time on my Visa receipt is 11.24am. It took over an hour for my car to go through. I left there at 12.30pm. Unbelievable! When I asked the guy who drove my car back to me why, he had no explanation and at first was surprised that it took so long. Disgusting service. Going somewhere else next time. Sunnybrae Rd branch, avoid at all costs!”
“Poor description on 2 separate vehicles that on first instance led to additional costs as further work had to be done.
Body shop repairer advised they would take the vehicle down to be passed the second time as they were so unhappy with VTNZ Highbrook. The guy was literally raging and saying he was fed up with them as it wasn’t the first time and VTNZ weren’t doing their job properly
Took second vehicle to Botany VTNZ and same again, really poor description of the fail, so generic it covered a quarter of the car and nearly led to additional cost for the same reason.
Repair shop also advised that another area of fail was again so poorly described they had to check out the whole suspension as not sure which ball joint to check.
It appears VTNZ use such poorly trained and skilled inspectors that they are not able to properly describe a fail or are giving such generic answers as they are not sure it is a fail.
Reading other complaints on this site leads me think it is the latter and the inspectors don’t have skills to properly assess whether something is a fail leaving it to the repairer to assess. This leads to the risk of repairers billing for work that is not actually needed.
Am making formal complaint to NZTA and suggest all who have the same issue do like wise as this is the only way things change. VTNZ response has been completely unhelpful, displaying zero care or interest.
DO NOT USE VTNZ Botany or Highbrook. Wof complaint fail Dekra”
