“Asda does NOT uphold their Try Me Love me or we'll will refund and replace if not 100% happy, promise
In our quest to recycle, we decided to get a salt grinder from Asda and it worked so well, few weeks later, when I was next in Asda, I got the same grinder but for pepper to make it a set.
When the salt grinder was nearly empty, we got refill and tried to lift the top off the grinder. The thread on the glass jar shows the grinding mechanism is slotted on so it should just unslot but it just won't budge.
We rang Asda's 0800 number and spoke to Joseph who seems to be reading from something and repeated back to us as to how to unslot the top. The grinding top would only turn so much but not enough to come off. We tried the new pepper grinder, same applies, it's top won't unslot either. Eventually Joseph advise us to bring it back to the store.
At Asda Marina, Brighton, where we bought the items, the customer service lady kept repeating "what do I expect her to do about it" as I'm trying to explain the situation. Finally out of exasperation, even though we liked the item, I eventually said, since it won't unslot and we cannot refill it, we're not happy with the item so we're exercising Asda's Try Me, Love me promise i.e. to refund and replace.
She went away, came back to say her team leader confirms Joseph on their 0800 helpline is wrong as these are non refillable grinders, even though its not mentioned on the label or shelf at all, but out of good faith, will agree to refund and replace the salt grinder. I asked for the refund to be donated to their charity box. But she won't refund and replace the pepper grinder! She will only refund if I return the pepper grinder as it's still unused or I keep the pepper grinder with no refund. I told her we're not keeping the pepper grinder as it's not refillable and therefore it's a sinful waste to our environment to have a throwaway grinder.
We were definately NOT happy with the pepper grinder yet Asda refuses to uphold their Try Me Love Me promise, to refund and replace if not 100% happy.
Finally the team leader appeared and her final suggestion is if I buy a set of refillable grinders from Asda, she will give us a pepper refill! The cheapest set of Asda grinder is £6. You do the maths plus she seems to have missed the point.
Instead of wasting more time with Asda, we're shopping elsewhere.”
“Bad management at busy times self service tills seem to get closed. Then when approached the convenient answer is provided "tills closed due to technical fault" why do normal tills never encounter this fault.”
“Went into Asda Folkestone today.
Coo. Never again. Nearly all checkouts are self service. Why do they do that? To save themselves money, not you the customer. There should be inducements to use them, like saving 5% on your purchases. Why not. They gain from you for using them as you pay a percentage in your prices for checkout staff wages. At least one doesn't seem to get pressurised into using them, like Morrisons. On the other hand it wasn't too busy so perhaps when it is they do. Use Waitrose.”
“To return anything Asda are very good , no quibble , so long as you are right with them, i.e. The goods are not damaged, the return policy Asda have is brill”
“Toilets at both Bangor and Llandudno were disgusting. The stench was awful, and makes me wonder how often they are monitored. My advise, use Toilet facilities elsewhere before you visit Adds!!”
“Very good place for shopping necessities. The pricing is fairly reasonable too. The shops contain all sorts of goods and cater for all social classes. For a vagrant like me, ASDA is heaven”
