I have been more of a cardio exerciser for most of my life. I did lots of swimming and running on my own. But, as a skinny/fat body type now in my 60’s, I began to see some tough to lose belly fat and love handles increasing while considering if I might need to build muscle before becoming frail. The science supports the idea that weight training is beneficial for muscle growth and retention, bone strength and cognitive abilities. I was all over the gym from machine to machine, still doing a lot of cardio and eating a diet that was mainly about what not to eat. I started BWS a month ago and gradually have the pocket calculator set up, protein and caloric goals clear in my head and following the 4 day Intermediate plan with less cardio than I was doing. . I am encouraged to read about older guys making gains. My struggle will be to continue to lose while putting on muscle. I am 5’ 8” 144 lbs. small framed. Dropped 3 lbs in four weeks at 1600 Kc a day. I estimate that I complete reps mirroring correct form better than 50-60% now. The videos really help. My goals are a bit different from a photographable physique. I am aiming for strength, muscle retention, feeling energetic and having good balance.
