“Barclay offered to put a 24 hour hold on my account when my purse went missing. Upon finding my purse they have been unable to get my card working. After talking to representatives 6 times and each time promising that the card would work, it was still being declined. When I called today to request the card be replaced they wanted to charge me $10 to have it expedited or wait another week for my new card. I did not feel they handled the fact that something is wrong with their system appropriately after being a customer for more than 7 years, I’m done. We will be taking our business else where.”
“I reported a lost card and was sent a new one that would not activate. When I called, they said “we canceled a bunch of cards. I’m not sure why they sent you that one. Another is on its way. It’s been 11 business days since the second was supposedly sent. No card. I call again, and let me know I need the card immediately, as I’ll be traveling for a month. They say they’ll send me an expected card, that I will need to pay $15 to have expedited. *I* have to pay for their mess up? This is not good business practice. I’ve decided to cancel my 15+ year card and will be going to another company; simply unacceptable.”
“Garbage company that has 0 interest in anything other than trying to figure a way to squeeze the last cent out of you. I guess the big problems is that all banks are like this now but these jokers take it to a new level.
If you want a good experience with them - plan on jacking your card to the limit and just send them a huge interest payment each month, you will be as good as gold in that scenario. Otherwise, my suggestion is find a less sleazier option which won't be hard.”
“DISGUSTING is not even the word!
Avoid this DISGUSTING company at all costs. They have reduced our credit limit with NO notice (not even a day!), from £7k to £1k. We have been loyal customers for 20 years. We recently used our entire savings to pay the balance off this card as we were in the process of important medical treatments. We explained this to Barclaycard, but they do not care. They have no care for customers, no sympathy. If anyone speaks to a Rachel Wilson, avoid talking to her and ask to speak to another colleague, she is a TERRIBLE advisor. If we had known we would not have put this onto our credit card and would have paid for our medical treatment straight out of our savings. They have Jeopardised our health and ruined our lives. If there was a 0 they would happily get that score. Horrible Horrible Company! They have destroyed our lives.”
“Barclaycard now a symbol of desperation
Barclaycard slashed my credit limit from 6'500 to just 250 pounds, apparently due to new government guidelines on responsible lending. However, their actions merely punish individuals for paying off their monthly balance. They operate like loan sharks; the card is an embarrassment; I've closed my account because of the stigma of having such a card would have. Ideal if you only shop at Poundland. I would certainly recommend it if you want to give the impression you're poor and can't get a valid credit card. Save yourself a lot of grief; leave well alone.”
“I was interested in the AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard, as many of the online review sites recommended Barclay very highly.
SO, I go online and research, everything looks good. I called customer service and that's where things fell apart. The first customer service rep barely understood/spoke English, and became miffed when I asked to speak with a native English speaker - she disconnected/hung-up the phone right when I was in mid sentence. I called back. Got another non native English speaker. I asked to be put through to a supervisor and then waited for well over 10 minutes with no-one answering my call. In frustration, I simply hung up and began looking for reviews and complaints about Barclay online. That's when I found this and other sites with NOTHING positive to say about Barclay.
To me, these are red flags. Also the reviews all over the web saying that Barclay has slashed their credit worthiness without provocation are huge red flags as well. I'm going to steer clear of this hot mess and stick with American Express.”
“Barclaycard don't see customers as people to be helped, they're a number on a screen - a resource to be exploited. I got into persistent debt some years back but worked hard to improve my financial situation and as a result paid off two substantial loans and had just moved onto knocking large chunks off my Barclaycard balance. Except Barclaycard never bothered to contact me to ask about any of this, and instead sent me a letter informing me that my card would be suspended for persistent debt and offering me a 'paydown' service that has actually somehow costed me more in interest this month than ever before. Barclaycard don't care that I had other financial priorities - their customer services didn't want to know - and even the fact that I'd paid a massive chunk of my balance off the month before, as per my financial plan (which they also didn't care about), wasn't enough to convince them that I had everything under control. I've used Barclaycard for years and years, I've never missed a payment nor violated any of their terms and conditions, and now they pull this? I feel utterly shafted.
Now, if you're looking for a GOOD credit card provider, look no further than MBNA - they're utterly fantastic, with low interest rates and top-notch customer services - they've always done right by me.”
“Appalling way to treat loyal customers and their unjust decision has had a negative impact on my credit score. Like a lot of the recent feedback on here, I received an email out of the blue to say my credit limit was slashed. I was given no justification - they did infer this was down to a change in my circumstances even though my financial situation has only ever improved.”
“Horrible, absolutely horrible. Been a client of theirs for 11 years now and I'm not even eligible for a small car loan or a credit card.
3 years ago I applied for a credit card as I was receiving weekly posts/emails about applying for one, when I did, my application was denied for a very vague reason. Fast forward 3 years, my credit score was suddenly slashed by 90 points because of an account that was closed, care to guess who the account was with? Yup, Barclays. They had opened up an account for me without my knowledge and closed it due to inactivity as I didn't even know I had it which resulted in my score being slashed 90 points, and they didn't even acknowledge the mistake. Stay away from them.”
“Simply Rubbish bank, I’ve been with this bank donkey years and treat you like this, no explanation or anything that just slash my credit limit from £14000 to £250, never late payment I don’t understand why, just Void This rubbish bank...”
“My personal credit limit was decimated although I have an excellent credit rating, good earned income plus pension income, no dependents, own my house outright and have never defaulted on payments of any kind. I was informed of this by means of an extremely offensive letter. Well, it's their loss. It was the final push to get me to move away from their awful business banking to a better provider (luckily my personal banking has long been with a decent bank rather than with Barclays.
Your loss Barclays, not mine.”
“Disgusting. I’ve been with Barclays for 10 years and have an excellent credit rating. They just told me my credit card (which they’ve been raising the limit of for years without me asking) is being cut to £850 credit limit.
I’m leaving Barclays fully they’re not getting a penny from me ever again.
This is a pandemic.
Disgusting I really hope someone sues them. DON’T GO TO BARCLAYS!
Disgusting selfish company.”
“I have been Barclay’s credit card customer over 10 years with an excellent payment history.
And my experience is not very good.
This company will stub theirs good standing customers in the back by lowering credit limit when you expect it less. For example: when you pay down the credit cards they lower your credit limit to the minimum. Also the company did not report paid off accounts to the credit bureaus on company’s normal schedule. I wonder if by Barclay’s policy they have a waiting period on reporting paid off accounts to the credit bureaus because of possible customers credit score increase. I have not experience anything like described above from my any of other credit card companies accounts.
In conclusion: Use Barclay’s cards while building or rebuilding credit. But get rid of Barclay’s accounts as soon as possible (when you can dodge the few points of credit score loss for closed accounts) before they find a reason to stub you in the back by harming you credit score.”
“This company has the worse customer service !! I reported fraud on my account and Barclays will not assist on getting my credit.
Stay away from this company....”
“In February of 2020 I closed my Barclays card account. Three months later I received a letter that I owe Barclays $41.50 because there was $10 charge, after I closed my account in February and the rest of it are late fees and charges. Surprised I called Barclays customer service to settle the case, but the representative and the manager told me that I must pay this amount, or there will be consequences, this will be reported to my credit history, which it was The whole conversation was extremely unpleasant. While was sending letters and continue to call Barclays and had phone talks in attempt to settle the case they were adding more and more charges. Now they are charging me over $200 in fees. This is how this predatory company works. Avoid this card by any means! Run from them.”
“I mailed them a payoff check on 2/25/21 that I got by refinancing my house. I sent it certified mail so that I could track when it got there.
It was delivered to their mailbox on 3/3/21. I waited until 3/5/21 before calling them. It still hadn't been picked up.
I asked the 1st person and a supervisor if they would please pick up the check and process it before my due date of 3/8/21. They both quoted me that their mailed payment process takes 7-10 business days and it wouldn't be processed until 3/11/21. They said they wouldn't refund or do anything about the late fee that would be incurred, even though the payoff was sitting in their mailbox for 2 days already and would be there for 5 business days before they processed it.
I had to make an extra payment online and now I will have a couple extra hundred dollars paid on my account when they process the check. I'll have to find out how to get that money back. I will be closing my account as soon as I can.”
“Terrible service. I have been scammed for just over £1000 while abroad. It took Barclaycard 10 months only to tell me they are unable to help, using covid as an excuse. Absolutely terrible .....”
“They where fine until I had a dispute on my card for merchandise that I never received. All my attempts and there’s could not get ahold of the merchant that I order from off Facebook to find out why I never got my items. And they still are making me pay for the items. No protection I will be canceling my card once it is paid off.”
“Barclaycard claims to have 24/7 customer service. They have a few different numbers you can call...all default to the same recording with awful music...and no one answers. I waited over 30 minutes on multiple occasions. My time is valuable too, but they treat phone customers like we are all fools. I plan to cancel my card if I can ever get through to them!”
