Coming here to ensure other potential customers go elsewhere. Had the unfortunate situation of needing their services twice in the last year. Both times we were left waiting for an exceedingly long time. First one was a breakdown at night that took over 6 hours to be recovered, despite having blue badge passengers on board. Second time was when a 5 month old baby got accidentially locked in the car. Despite being the highest priority the patrol was over 90 minutes and in the end we got a spare key driven 25 miles to us in a faster time. Having been a long time member I think I will be looking elsewhere when it comes to renewal. Absolutely appauled with the lack of service and customer care! Their tendancy to only respond to 5 star reviews on trustpilot speaks volumes!

I was having trouble with my clutch in Bristol. I rang the RAC at 6.30PM, 6 HOURS later, in the early hours of the morning I was finally seen too. I am female and i was by myself in a city. The mechanic was friendly and great. I was advised that my clutch may be going (as i was struggling on and off to get it into 1st/2nd & reverse). I was then advised I may as well carry on driving as the alternative was to get transport back to home (Cornwall) and my van would follow me between 5-8 days later??? I have since complained to the RAC as i would LIKE A REFUND AND TO CANCEL MY POLICY. However they are refusing as i have had the callout? How is that fair. Rae Hill from customer care is clearly useless at customer care. I will be reviewing again.

We left the AA to join RAC on the promise of a comprehensive business cover for out fleet of vans. On the very first day of the new policy, we called upon them for a fuel tank issue. The first call out was fine and within a reasonable time, however, it descended into a total failure of service and dereliction of any of the promises this service promoted. In summary, my two technicians were left on the roadside from 3pm until midnight. We had to abandon the use of the RAC and hire our own recovery vehicle. Total failure of service resulting in a complaint, followed by a swift cancellation and return to the AA. I highly recommend any small business looking at this company as the saviour of your teams on the road, to think again. The cheaper cost and promise of a service that did not materialise is not worth it.

An absolute disgrace!!!! RAC you are completely exploiting your customers. Absolute con artists! After over 7 years of paying over 30 pound a month plus. My husband has called these out twice! Today would have been the third time. The first two times were very bad experiences but put that down to maybe a busy night but today was next level. 9 calls back and fourth- first to be told he doesn’t have a policy and after me finding all proof and having to email etc you finally and miraculously find his policy. He is stranded on an motorway, panicking and has to deal with a rude person the other end of the phone stressing him out even further. After a few more calls back and fourth he is finally told (after an hour of calls) that you won’t even be able to send anyone! I’d love to know what the F he is paying for them??????????? Well no more! But I will make sure everyone I know and can spread the word to hears about it including watchdog. After reading all the other reviews here too, it just clarifys to me that RAC are a scam! A real Scam! It’s a disgrace. Don’t even deserve 1 star. Sat here absolutely petrified as to how my husband will get home. His phone has died now too as a result of them wasting time! Disgusting.

Currently waiting for RAC since 9am today my update says expect them between 14:00 and 16:00. However after reading these reviews I am worried if that will even happen or if I need to be towed that may also not happen if / when they do turn up. I could get a cab home which is 20 minutes away but concerned they may turn up earlier then I won’t be there … wish me luck ! Safe to say I will not be renewing with RAC

I've been a member of RAC for 20 years an only used a couple of times, recent breakdown on a motorway was a nightmare, the app is a nightmare, had to call them repeatedly, got left on private land, had to be toed off by a farmer an was 12 hrs in total wait, no access to toilets or food. I won't be renewing my membership!

I have been waiting over three hours. They tell me it will be at least another two hours before they can get to me, and that it might be longer than that. I am the biggest mug in the world for renewing with these lot. They are always ''exceptionally busy'' - try employing more mechanics.

Today our car broke down at 5.40pm 35 miles from home. I called the RAC. I’ve been a member for 32yrs and always paid the top price for the best service. Only called them out a handful of times in all those years. After waiting 4hrs tonight, several texts from RAC saying they were on their way but no one arrived. Then we got a text to call the control centre when we were told no one would be coming and could we wait until the morning!!! Unbelievable!! Are we expected to sleep in the car? No toilet facilities or anything to eat or drink? My husband has to take vital medication by 9pm , so we just had to get home. We had to abandon our vehicle and get an Uber home which cost us £73. We got home at 10.45pm The RAC will have to recover our vehicle tomorrow and get it back to us. I’m utterly disgusted with the lack of service that we pay a fortune for every month. We will be looking to change to another service provider.

My son has been waiting for nearly 5 hours I called the RAC to ask why my call was answered by a lady who quickly wanted there to be an issue with me I guess to allow her to hang up on my call she then said i’ll Put you on hold and left me there for 15 minutes, I have to say the RAC do not deserve 1 Star Terrible service and a don’t care attitude, on hold now for 28 minutes Disgraceful

I would not recommend RAC at ALL! I have been waiting 10hrs through the night with a disability. I’ve called 10 x all the staff saying the call out is being pushed back to 2-5hrs further. Promises of managers calling but have not. I have no water or food so a cab came and the cab man said it’s common for this duration of time. RAC have been unless, to be a woman on my own on the A3 for 10hrs min is horrific. I’m trying another breakdown company. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

The Rac where to start, absolutely disgusting service, constant lies, many different points of information which is all wrong. 20hrs and still waiting. They came out after 7hrs and said it needs to be recovered. Then this is where all the lies come in, blaming there driver who was no where near taking a car for another job before he even knew about me, he found out 30 mins before he arrived but I was told he would be there 6hrs before that constant changing the eta and drivers cancelling then waiting till I called to reque. Now I have been waiting yet again after recovery could only be take me 50 miles now I wait for another recovery vehicle to take me the final 48 miles. This was suppose to be 4pm latest I was told more than likely earlier. So waiters the 2hrs called back up as no sign and now there is another 1.5hrs on top looking at 5:30 now They have no staff, no organisation and literally no care for you as a customer or a person being stranded. The person before me that was recovered had been waiting 52hrs and had been staying in a hotel. Absolute disgusting so much for 1hr response and fix. Premiums go up 30% for a drastically failing service and with holding pay rises which are needed for the low paid staff Safe to say I will be cancelling without a thought

Spanish roadside for 9 Hours and still counting I am currently sitting on the side of the road in Spain broken down and have been here for nine hours already. RAC refuses to help me as they say it's the responsibility of their European partners to cover Europe and so far i have made 13 calls to opteven ( said European partner) and still haven't been recovered. I would not recommend anyone getting European cover from RAC as I have found the whole experience extremely tiring as a recovering renal cancer patient and frustrating. I took out the premier cover with Saga RAC breakdown for the express reason of taking the stress away from a breakdown and have been completely let down. I was told however that it's beautiful scenery in Spain by the French call handler but it's hard to enjoy baking in the sun covered in a layer of dust from a nearby building site. If you want minimum hassle then shop elsewhere. Date of experience: July 28, 2023

Omg, where do I start. The RAC tell outright lies to their customers. The steering went yesterday on my car a guy came after 3 hours and said the car needed recovering. He said it was booked for 10am today as they were busy. I agreed to this as it was Sunday and the garage was closed anyhow. I had someone go to my car to meet the recovery man for 10am but nobody turned up. I rang and they said it was booked for 10.45, still nobody came I rang again and they said the recovery truck that was allocated was 30-40 mins away, still nobody turned up. My car was then abandoned by the friend who had things to do and left my key in sun visor. I rang again and they said that it was allocated for 3pm but again nobody turned up so I rang again and it was escalated to a manager who would call me back within the hour but they didn't. I rang again and was told it would be escalated again but I said I didn't believe the lies I kept being told. I was then given another time of 40 minutes which was reflected on the app. I really thought they might come this time but this was cancelled within 5 minutes. I tried to ring again but the office was closed. I checked on the app but there was no update and no way to chat or get in touch other than by reporting a new break down. I had to get my daughter to give me a lift as I was now unsure whether my car had been recovered, it hadn't and this was a 1 hour round trip to check. I was resigned to having to wait until the office was reopen tomorrow. Then at 11.45pm I got a call saying the recovery truck was 2 minutes away and that I had to be there to escort it to the garage. Another drive across and return home by 12.45am 3 weeks ago I was towing my caravan as a single woman with 2 daughters and the dog and black smoke was coming out of the car that smelt like burning and the oil light came on. Rather than risk going on the motorway I drove back to the garage that I had just passed and rang the RAC who advised not to drive it. I was given a 2 hour window. When that was up I refreshed the app hoping it would sat someone was close but it added another 3 hours. We waited again but that then won't up to 10pm. We ended up waiting 9hours and nobody came. I had no choice but to add oil and risk the drive home as it was now past 10pm. Let down severely twice now and won't be renewing

On 3 callous each one we had to wait 3-4 hours, even when there was smoke from the engine. Very poor service overall, won't be renewing.

RAC Service Plan, disappointed. I usually rate RAC very highly, but the Service Plan let me down. I took out the plan and booked my MOT and full service on the app. Then arrived to find out the garage no longer deals with RAC. Then to add insult to injury I asked to cancel and obtain a full refund for my payments to date. Was told yes no problem but we will deduct £25 fee. Wow. Let's hope they do cancel as they have been drawing down on my card every month.

Unacceptably Awful. Which kind of culture is this??, not being punctual is the norm?! My partner had an accident and needs to be rescued by RAC; tow our damaged van and bring him back home ( luckily nobody is injured including him). He was told that the rescue would arrive in 2hours time which is already taking too long for being rescued in London, he is not in the remote mountain! But it’s been nearly 4hours waiting and nobody is here! He had already very stressful experience and then on top of that this long ridiculous wait??My partner has contacted RAC few times and they said to him that they can’t reach to the driver who is supported to rescue him because the driver doesn’t pick up the phone!! Then my partner got the call from the driver himself saying that he was just informed to come to rescue him 40mins ago, which was the time the driver supposed to be rescuing him!! I don’t know who is telling the truth, the RAC? Or the driver?? It doesn’t matter who is lying but the service from RAC is more than appalling. We are paying customer. If you don’t look after your customers, they just leave but your business ethic is damaging your company. It’s been over 4hours wait but nobody is with him. DO NOT USE RAC.

Very poor service for any breakdowns. We have been broken down for 2days and they still haven’t dropped our vehicle to a garage. Absolutely disgusting. And if you want any updates they keep on lying and delaying the times every time you call. Absolutely the worse service in the UK, avoid at all costs.
