The website and ordering process were very good, but the delivery was not. First I was emailed asking for proof of photo ID and a utility bill. Surely we don't need this in the days of secure websites. I disputed it in an email and was told it wasn't required; that it was the dispatching company making a mistake. Then when the package arrived to my work address, instead of the name 'Samuel Smith' on it, it had 'Salutation M Smith'. This meant that the recptionist had no idea who it was for. Luckily I was expecting it that day and happened to see a box which looked the correct size and realised it was mine. Not brilliant if Im honest.

Goods arrived promptly. However the Spydercheckr card is in a box 1/4" thick. Not sure why it needed such a huge box and postage of around £5! A padded envelope would have worked just as well

Everything arrived as expected, otherwise I would be giving a much lower mark. The lady I spoke with and placed the order was nice enough, but when I suggested the card I was using was registered to an address in the UAE, the tone of the conversation changed quite quickly. She explained how the delivery address needed to be the same, so I said "hmmm ok, no problem, I'll use my UK credit card instead". Whilst this should have cleared and doubt that I was in fact a normal customer and not some criminal using other peoples credit cards, she was clearly suspicious but I let it go and thought nothing more of it. What I wasn't happy about however was her calling me back a few hours later and asking questions about other residents at the property. I had after all given her a UK credit card, in my name, registered to the delivery address. When I questioned this I was told it was "because I had a low credit rating". Sorry, but I doubt that.

Hi there. It seems there has been a change of staff in Calumet Drummond Str. Gone are the older staff who had been there sometime time. People who had worked there for a number of years who one had developed a relationship with. The new crew are younger and seem less engaged and knowledgeable. My feeling is that Calumet are trying to save money on wages by cutting down on the quality of the staff. I've been coming to Calumet for many years and in fact knew the Drummond Street store when it was KJP in my assisting days. In the 10 years I've been working as a freelancer, I've always bought my gear from Calumet and hired much much more stuff. For me, it;s about building a relationship with a store and they work with you. I have to say the last purchase that I made did not go so smoothly and I left feeling less then impressed with things. I'd feel less inclined to recommend Calumet to my peers in future.

First time using this site. Item was as described and very well packaged. Only issue was a problem in posting (whether that be Calumet's fault or the courier's fault I do not know), Calumet took a few days to respond but did eventually refund the next-day postage costs.

I was disappointed with my shopping experience at Calumet. The assistant did what he had to after I explained what I wanted. But although he suggested the external CD storage that he thought I needed it wasn't till I got home that I realised my laptop doesn't have a CD writer and so my purchase was inappropriate. Perhaps I will go back for a refund. I wanted to be wowed and offered positive advice but all I got was a transaction with minimum conversation and the underwhelming feeling that I hadn't bought what I had really wanted. Will I go back? Undoubtedly because it is a nice shop with loads of tempting camera stuff. But it feels like I have to make the running in explaining what I want. And they could have sold me a camera if they had tried a little harder!

It's always nice to buy anything from Calumet as you stock good items and the staff are very knowledgeable. My only comment about this recent purchase was that it seemed to take a long time to arrive (over 3 weeks). The item is something you normally stock and the supplier had them in stock too (they're based in Manchester). I'm certainly not complaining as the item only cost £10, and by the time you'd shipped it from your main warehouse to my local branch (in it's own overly-packed box) and also posted me a separate invoice, it probably cost you more than you make in profit. Maybe you need to simplify your online ordering process for small/cheap items - I'm really only saying this to save you guys money as you're the only proper camera shop left, and you've obviously got competition from mail-order only businesses. thanks, Ben.

I've used Calumet for some time and always received a very good service, however, on this occasion they have not delivered the level of service I expect to receive. Calumet had been identified as a UK outlet for the Gary Fong equipment I needed for my business. I completed my order and paid in full for the equipment required, the order was completed on the 2nd April but I'm still awaiting delivery of the key (Gary Fong Light Sphere) items ordered. I have received part of the order, however this item can not be used without the main items ordered. I had not been informed by Calumet of any expected delay and only discovered on Monday 27th April, following my enquiry to them, that they had been experiencing problems with their supplier based in Germany. It would have been good practice to have been notified of any delay with the delivery of the equipment that I ordered.

I would have given a good/very good as customer services dealt with the problem very well but I ordered a lens from the website as it was showing you had it in stock. After not hearing anything for a few days I had to phone to find out that it was not actually in stock and was on back order. Very disappointing as I would not have placed the order if I'd known that. Customer services got it too me as soon as they could but I had missed the weekend I wanted the lens for by that stage.

After describing my need at some length, the part was out of stock at the store so was ordered and it arrived very promptly on the following day. It turned out to be the wrong product but I didn't find out until I'd cut open the pack and tried to fit it to the camera so I can't really return it. After a chat with one of the Nikon NPS people, I was able to buy the right product on-line. My nearest Calumet branch is some 60 miles away.

OK, for the record I like Calumet. I think they are a good store and in general provide a decent service to the photographic community. The staff are always friendly, reasonably knowledgeable and, do their best to help. However, I find Calumet's website to be almost unusable. For example, you can type in a specific product search i.e. for a specific lens hood, only for the search to produce a list of some 2500+ items that supposedly match your criteria! As a result I find myself looking elsewhere to source the product(s) I need. I'd grade Calumet higher if their website was better, but as it is......

I have always had a fabulous experience in Calumet, the staff have always been amazing, but on this occasion I was quite shocked how rude the staff member was, even my other half mentioned it when we got in the car after leaving the store. She as quite sharp and did not have a good way with people. I won't let it put me off shopping at calumet, I will just fish out the members of staff who have been fabulous on the past and stay clear of the rude ones.

Staff were friendly and helpful up to a point. Sadly they didn't have stock of part of my order, and haven't given me much clarity on when my lens purchase is likely to be in stock. I'd have the item much sooner were I to order online from a competitor.

The jury is out. I traded in some of my gear, all current, for a new 100-400 Canon. All went well until the very end when I found out that the lens was out of stock. Whether this is bad or a disaster depends on when I receive it!! I also found out by shear fluke that my old 100-400 lens was sold on in less than 2 hours. As the show was busy it couldn't have been checked properly. I happen to know that my lens was in good nick but in principle it's scary!!

Although the help at Calumet is always pragmatic and to the point, it can be fairly curt and impersonal. I think the guys in there really know their stuff when it comes to photography, but I suspect 'customer service' may be a cursory afterthought.

The album I purchased looked well packed. However on opening the package, the bottom part of the album box was damaged. I could not use it to give to my customer which was disappointing. Luckily I had an album box that was in better shape so I had to use that. If I did not have a replacement album box I would have had to send the package back to you with all the problems that would have gave me. Eric Bourne.
