Major service no problem, but remedial works of over £400 way to expensive. Set of 4 spark plugs £150. Front suspension wishbone and alignment. £250. Rear number plate light £25.00. Total cost £425. Small independent garage near me quoted £265.00 for all the above work. Do one halfords...

Bloody annoying o an appointment to get my brakes looked at on my Vauxhall corsa 1.4, turned up at the time and the auto centre at Luton knew nothing about it, not entirely their fault more Halfords auto centre and to top it up staff were pretty clueless regarding braking issue so I just left and got the Vauxhall booked into a local garage.

This was my first experience with Halfords. I took my car for an appointment to fit 2 new tyres. Appointment was for 13.30. Car being taken and put on the ramp, but 30 minutes later i receive a call from member of staff saying my tyres is not arrived yet and i need to wait indefinite time. It takes 4 hours for job to be done. Why need to book appointment and pay in advance for service which can not be done in time, why Halfords can not communicate with costumers about any delays before customer come and leave car with them? Disappointed! Job itself done well.

I took my car for a free suspension check because I heard some noises when I was driving over bad roads. I'm an enthusiastic home mechanic wannabe, I have some limited tools and knowledge so I checked the suspension myself beforehand and couldn't find any problems, so I decided to have a professional take a look at it just to be sure. So I took the car to them, the check happened, and I get a call from them about the results. I know I've got bad tyres although they are still legal so they aren't priority. They said my rear engine mount is bad which could case noises and vibration, and I noticed it myself that the gearstick moves when accelarating. However here comes the scam part. On the phone the guy asked whether I hear noises when breaking. I said yes, some squeal when braking lightly. So he said my brake caliper brackets were bad, and I was quoted 220£ each to replace them on both sides. Now my car had new pads and rotors fitted a year ago. They just needed some copper grease to make them quiet which I have done today myself. No issues whatsoever with my brake caliper brackets, or any part with my front brakes. Now I didn't get scammed because I know some stuff. But someone who has no clue about cars would've gotten ripped off by almost 500£. I'm shocked to experience this, don't know if it's because I'm young, a foreigner, or this just happens to everybody regardless of age or nationality.

I'm starting to doubt this garage now, after many years of use. Very recently bought a second hand car and have realised it has a small oil leak - nothing showing on dashboard and car drives perfectly (told a new oil sump was added upon purchase/service and that its more than likely the sealant that is causing the leak). Halfords quoted me £900 in repairs as they "think" another leak is coming from the back of the gearbox. Therefore they need to take out the gearbox and completely renew the clutch. Have spoken to the garage I bought the car from who have said it would cost no more than £300 IF they needed to do all those repairs. Halfords cost £60/hr for labour charges, which bumps up the price massively. I will try to use smaller local garages from now on as I just believe they charge a crazy amount along with trying to find any fault they can. Have been told they work on commission so obviously try and find more work if they have to, but the work is not always necessary. Also once had new windscreen wipers put on, under 12 month warrantee but I was never told this, and a year later at next MOT wipers failed and I had to pay for new ones again! I always felt they were a reputable company but have read some poor reviews about them. It's a wonder any car comes out of an MOT actually passing! Always have an extensive bill whenever I use them

Halfords FELTHAM MOT Dropped my car for MOT MOT failed because of Brakes. I been told to replace discs and pads. They even gave me the price for the “necessary” service. My break pads and discs has been replaced only 1 years ago. Done only 8 thousand miles. I really doubted as milage was very low. I refused to change the discs in pads in Halfords garage as price they gave me was really high. Then they put some pressure - stating that I can’t drive my car as from now I have no MOT, and if police will stop me, there will be a problem. I said I want to hear opinion from another independent garage. Serviceman from ANOTHER MOT centre checked the breaks and said break discs are absolutely fine and there is no reason for failure. SO I PASSED MY MOT there. Now I really have concern about honesty of Halfords people. Looks like they trying to create job for themselves and lying to customers to buy unnecessary service from them. This way to rob the people. I lost trust to Halfords. Stay away from those dishonest people.

Went to collect my car after mot and service. New system wasnt working to print invoice off the only way it would work if they took the 2 tyres i had replaced off. Marty who was fantastic tried ringing round to sort it out. After 40 minutes wait . He spoke to the guy who created the system who said just charge the lady and we will send the invoice via email. I was not having that as i would be paying for something i had no proof i had the work done and what if the email never came or i drove away and something went wrong with the tyres. He then asked to speak to me. I as a customer shouldnt have to speak to the person who created system so i said no. Marty finally sorted it out and was very sorry for what happened . It werent his fault but its a poor system when you cant pay gor work you have had done .

I wouldn't recommend using Halfords Surbiton branch. They were very helpful over the phone & polite. However, when I went to collect my car having had two tyres replaced and a full MOT I noticed that there was some damage to my front bumper which had recently been replaced and so I know it was completely damage free. Cut a long story short they said that it was my word against theirs and that it had to be based on fact. I did point out to them that having to report the damage etc was hassle to me and that it wasn't something that generally people make up especially as the damage was rather minor. For me it was the principle of the matter.

I booked my car service (interim) today at Weston-Super-Mare, I dropped my car off just before 2pm as requested, I wa told it would take an hour and a half to complete when booking, I returned at 3-30pm expecting it to be almost completed, however the sales manager told me it wouldn't be ready until at least 5-30, thank you Halfords for wasting my time, I took my car and will not be using you again.

Told the chap what the tyre pressures needed to be. Checked this morning all 4 tyres were different pressures. Why didn't the chap listen to me ? Not impressed. In future please listen to the customer.

I had a dash cam supplied & fitted. Got home, downloaded the CD ROM & found a fault re: G Sensor. Rang branch, spoke to a manager who asked me to bring dashcam back into store so they could plug in diagnostics, but not until following Tuesday. Rang Tuesday a.m. - named manager not in. Went to branch. Fitter told shop assistant (via their ubiquitous headset) just to change settings. I knew that changing settings would not cure the fault and anyway I could have done that at home - what about plug in diagnostics? No such thing in store, he said. Why then was I asked to come in to do that? No suitable explanation. As I was being dealt with by assistant he suddenly started talking into his headset to someone else about a totally different matter. I was not a happy camper and asked to speak to a manager. I can't speak highly enough of the manager who dealt with me in a professional and efficient manner; unlike the fitter who was just trying to fob me off and the assistant who was clearly not focussed on my problem. Talking to the manufacturers Tech. Support it turned out the issue was a known software fault - nothing to do with the actual dashcam! So, I've got a brand new item which has a known fault. Halfords appear to be not aware of this and the branch staff were inept. I need another dashcam for a second car. Will I be buying that model? Will I be going to Halfords for it? What do you think..............

Messy, obscure and overpriced,! Just had my Alfa Mito for a "Major service" +MOT @Chelmsford for total of £260.00, once got there to pick the car up I was given an advisery note of things needing done(Red)/should be done(Amber), with the itemised costs ( I could get much cheaper price by just going next door!!), I was not given any detail breakedone of what actually been done (e.g oil change/oil filter chang, etc), I was not given a MOT certificate, the service book was not filled nor stampt, the plastic protection cover was left for me to remove.and some engine oil was spilled in the engine bay, Was told All spark plags to be renewed @ £129.78( does not include in MAJOR service), next door @53.81, all in all have lost confidence in Halfords,! I would love to talk to the area manager !!!

On MOT I was told my brake pads were RED. All booked in twice. First time they had only 1 member of staff was in. So 2 appointments later and wasted 4 hrs they decided they did not need changing after all. Left me wondering why the change? I have been using Halfords for years for both of my cars- Not anymore!!!

I was told that MOT was free when taking a service. According to Halfords, my car failed because 3 bulb lights. They wanted me to buy the light bulbs from them and pay the fitting. I can do that myself and save some money. They were no happy when I said that. MOT was not free, on top of that, I had to call them and ask for a retest and pay a fee. Is this free? I don't think so. I checked my bulb lights and there is nothing wrong with them. Bad service, they want to charged you for something you don't need.

Bought some wipers for my car, Bosch item not in stock. Halfords it's £4 more expensive than Bosch, but bought them as I was about to do a long continental journey. When home, opened the box to discover flimsy poor quality wipers that are the right length but in all other respects not a match for the original fitting. Will be seeking a refund.

What didn’t go wrong? High price. I paid for a major service and on getting home and checking their servicing menu, I found that half of the things on there hadn’t been carried out. Absolute joke! And they didn’t carry out my MOT due to apparent overheating of my engine - which was fine driving the 20-odd mile back to my home..!
