They turn nasty and threatening when they make a mistake and demand you pay straight away for their mistake. But when they owe you money they disappear like snow on a warm day.

“Took their boiler cover / energy plan out 11.9.23. For some reason the boiler cover paperwork arrived two months after. The ‘engineer’ who rang didn’t know what an ATAG boiler was so I said I didn’t want him touching it. I moved supplier at the end of my contract. Ovo have charged me £30 to get out of the boiler cover plan as it lagged my ‘energy and boiler cover’ by two months. That was their issue. Telephone operative dismissive. Avoid this company.”

“I was forced by SSE now OVO after forced transfer/join to have a smart meter despite the fact I'd stated I didn't want one. I'd been none stop badgered. They then claimed they no longer have old metres to replace faulty ones with & I was forced to take smart for both Gas & Electric on top as they say that's the only way they can work???. Since having it if it runs out & you top up , IT DOESNT COME BACK ON!! You have to go through a very long process on the phone ( That's if you can get through as 1 number claims THEY DONT WORK WEEKENDS!! I had to find a 2nd number from emergency gas on phone) I have mobility issues and its a absolute pain. This has happened twice now. With the old metres if it ran out and then yoh topped up, it would automatically come back on. Totally ridiculous. Then to be patronised " Remember to keep it regularly topped up" . Brings me to my next issue. Having been mainly bed bound for past couple years I only use really very little electric ( top up phone, fridge) and I got paid a lump some of money earlier in the year & topped up enough with that, that it should've lasted till NEXT YEAR!! So clearly it running out several kinds short shows some major overcharging!. When the gas goes I'm telling them they can turn it off. I'm no longer buying gas. I hardly use it. The boiler is off at the wall & I take cold showers & baths from march to October. Yet the weekly standing charge ( so paying just for no gas) is about £4 a week!! That's £208 A YEAR For nothing. No Gas just a charge ABSOLUTELY SCANDALOUS. This is why I loved that my old property had a Emertion heater. Because that way you could just have a hot bath in winter with that & it was way cheaper! than gas.. im not keep paying £208 in just a fee for having the metre but not using gas. According to the woman on phone I can't have metres removed. I pay more in standing charges than I do in usage. So I think I will be switching”

“The bill was incorrect after many calls to the complaint department nothing was resolved. I explained in detail what caused the incorrect bill. In frustration after many calls I asked actually demanded to speak to manager thinking there was some one in that organisation would have the common sense to sort out this problem, after persisting and asked for help to talk to a manager the line I was told the manger was at a meeting and not available ONLY ONE MANAGER in such a large organisation.
When eventually receive a call back a day later the person calling on my phone remind silent (said nothing and I waited in silence thinking it was a scam call then the voice eventually said my name and the conversation ensued which did not resolve the problem one bit. Dealing with OVO is a night mare from HELL they are the very worst company I have ever encountered.

“I decided to move from OVO as my electricity supplier as l was unhappy with their service. I have had constant problems with them since the closed down my account on 12-8-24. I had to demand they sent me out my final bill so l could pay the outstanding payment. It arrived 1-9-24 and l returned paying in slip with cheque the next day. During that time, up until today, l have had daily calls demanding payment, even though toward the end they admitted they had a note that there was a 14 day time period to allow to them to receive my cheque. All this although l am on their vulnerable customer data base. Totally unacceptable. I hope that, after 3 hours of effort, l have finally resolved the issue, with a promised refund and apology. I am not holding my breath”
“The most disgusting customer service I have ever know , they constantly billed me for a gas bills and the gas meter that wasn't even ovo ,i never signed up with them ,so im looking into GDPR breach ,I'm with British Gas and never had ovo ,I'm looking to start a website just to see how many complaints and unsatisfied customers they actually are of ovo ,I'm disabled and what I have been through with threats of debt recovery ect , had a gas leak on my meter so my supplier British Gas sorted it all out ,I explained this to ovo ,if I had a gas meter with them ,wouldn't they of sorted and replaced the new one ?
British gas called Northan Gas Networks and because of my disabilities I'm classed as vulnerable so they was a 2 hour window,it fook around 45 minutes, fantastic customer service, so I explained all this to OVO, sent photos via email ,ect ect and still they sent bills out for gas ,all they had to do was look on the data base British gas advised me ,but not OVO ,nearly 6 months all this went on ,called ovo loads of times and constantly cut off mid call ,pretty much every phone call ,do not use ovo ,avoid them at all costs ......they just bullied and harassed me for a bill that was false ,like I've mentioned and told ovo I'm looking to start a webpage just to share bad experiences and story's about ovo ,how many people with disabilities, old and vulnerable have ovo bullied and threatened.
I wish I could put 0 stars for this disgusting company, I'm hoping to get this Web page up and running as soon as possible, for all to see and share there horrible memories and interesting lies and cover ups OVO seems to do .”
“In four months since I moved to a new address that they had wrongly listed, they have not managed to update my new address or properly migrate me from my old account to my new one. They tried to increase my Direct Debit by £69 per month because they cancelled the original one in the process of "fixing" the incorrect address listing. I have spent hours on the phone, sent emails that were not replied to and had chats with people who seem unable to fix a simple problem. At my last account they kept increasing Direct Debit payments to the extent that I was £1000 in credit when I moved & could only get the refund in two separate payments because the maximum you can ask for is £500 of your own money! They are only after money and have no interest in customer care and cannot even fix simple admin errors. If there was another provider, I would move, but I'm stuck with them. Would have given zero stars if possible.”

“I am a disabled pensioner living alone. I had declined this company's request to fit smart meters but by shear coincidence my electric meter failed shortly after it was topped up and have now waited over 6 weeks to have a forced smart meter installed in the mean time my gas meter has also failed (again shortly after top up) when I telephoned OVO I was expected to move a heavy settee and get on the floor to read the blank screen, when I said I was a disabled pensioner and couldn't do either I was told they couldn't help me until I told them what the issue was ". I have had no hot water and have had to purchase a microwave to have a hot meal for the last 3 weeks. I will not be staying with this unprofessional bunch of clowns.”
“I would give 0 stars if I could. We lost our mum and the service has been DISGUSTING. We became off supply at our mums property and needed electric to sort everything out. Been Messed around lots of time, told different things, passed around. To try and get supply back on has been harder than actually arranging the funeral. No condolences, no sorry for mistakes ever. Total arseholes. Still off supply and on hold as I write this.”

The latest they had me do was run around town to every paypoint I could find to get a new card with a 'code'
After I went through the ordeal I found out that they no longer supply these cards and this is why I could not find one.
Then they sent an 'emergency engineer out' to put some emergency credit on my account.. and of course this has not worked. The gas is still not on... and when I called back she blamed me for not 'hanging on to the engineer' until I was sure it was fixed.
Then she told me that i need to get a boiler specialist in cause it is nothing to do with ovo! which is not true! my boiler is fine
These people do not know what they are doing and it is costing me big time”
“Cutting a TWO YEAR saga into a very abridged version - made a complete hash of setting up my electrical metre (gas was fine) and went though them contacting me all the time for photos of the metre often by different people. Head of customer service involved and then was palmed off to around 15-20 people. Went to ombudsman - took a further 6 months. By the time it was sorted I left the property.
Fast forward got a letter from debtors saying I owed them money - OVO never EVER sent a bill for this meter. Odd how debtors could though…?
Fast again get a text after TWO YEARS saying I owed them 40 quid. Complained again - IGNORED it and just emailed me the bill.
Woeful, immoral bunch of ill informed waste men in this company. I would 100% recommend avoiding this sham of a business who have the people skills of Jack the Ripper. I have ALL evidence should anyone wish to see it for clarification.

“Probably the worst company I’ve ever been unfortunate to deal with. They have lied to me so much and overcharged me that I wanted to leave them they agreed to waive the exit fees, however when I got the final bill they charged the exit fees, and owe me money.
I am currently taking them to court as they have suddenly gone deaf and blind.
Avoid them they are a bunch of crooks.”
“Everything. We get mounds of conflicting letters. The billing is incomprehensible. We left for Octopus on July 15th. Simple ?? NO. OVO continued to send a raft of bills and in spite of settling the final A/C they did not acknowledge this. We wrote letters. We emailed. We phoned. The bills and reminders kept arriving ... two today 24th August. One said we had credit of £70 the other we owed £103 which had been paid weeks earlier and was actually on the £70 credit letter. Now they have referred us to a Credit Reference Agency and we have been 'Downgraded'. Tried to phone but no service over the BH weekend. Hopeless. Pathetic. Useless. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.”
