“Had appointment today 19/09/2024 got there on time to be told there was an hour delay as they were running late . If we had been late it would have been oh dear can’t see you etc . The lady on reception was rude when hubby told her we couldn’t wait , they think that customers have nothing to do , I am disabled but had to go with hubby as he has onset dementia he can’t remember he’s lost the ability to recognise where he is , we also put my daughter out as she drove us in and picked us up and the damn receptionist had the nerve to say “ well you will have to make another appointment “ well guess what Specsavers we shall definitely never step over your threshold ever again you’re a joke”
“FREE CONTACT LENS TRIAL (ONLY FOR £25) - DISHONEST COMPANY
Advertised free contact lens trial in Walton on Thames. My wife went in, asked a few times if it's absolutely free, they confirmed it is. Saw her recent glasses prescription from another optician didn't do any eye test. Told her she doesn't need a new lenses eye test. Then forced her to pay a "consultation charge" of £25!
She paid and then later checked the receipt, it said the charge was for an eye test!
When we went back to challenge the charge and they fist tried to patronise and made faces. Started talking themselves up instead of apologising for charging incorrectly.
Never have I ever seen such a condescending staff on specsavers. Time for specsavers to start sending their staff to some professional behavior and honest conduct training.”
“The service at Specsaver Camden High Street has dropped a lot in quality of care and service. I have been a customer for 14 years and I have never been treated so badly. 2 weeks ago I had an eyes test and I had to wait 40 minutes and the attention was not very good, but today with my contact lens test it was worse, not only the 40 minute wait again but the quality of the test, the person who did the test The test took only less than a minute for me to read some letters, when I asked her if she would only do that, she told me that I didn't need any more exams (after 2 years of my last test and I remember it was more complete), the treatment of this person She was not very friendly and then when I paid for the contact lenses and the test, I told her that I was not happy with the test and she became aggressive and raised her voice in front of the staff and customers, she told me that I was rude by telling her that I was not happy with the test (but I only told her that in private), when I asked to speak to the manager, they told me that he was in a meeting (they didn't even go to ask), unfortunately I will pick up my glasses and contact lenses next week and it will be the last time I go to Specsaver, there is no justification for treating a customer (or anyone) badly, it hurts that their good reputation from years ago has turned into bad customer service.”
“dont ever go to spec savers , they just courced me to have an anxeity attack by constantly argueing with me to pint i asked to re shedual n they just kept saying its up to u and kept arguing , even tho they messed up my lences, refused to belive me my eyesite is blury close up with glasses off, told them to keep glasses n refunded me only issue now is i lost free voucher cos used witch now means i have to wait 2 years before can get it done again elsewwear”
“Claire from Specsavers Chorley called me and left a message requesting me call her back which I did when I called the store they knew nothing about it which is shocking and I knew I hadn't made an appointment because I was at work that day. Maybe they got the wrong person and the guy I spoke with wasn't sure either poor to say the least.”
“Had an appointment booked at Lowestoft today 5/9/24 - was kept waiting 45mins for the Optician - at no point was I kept up to date as to when I would be attended to.
Marked deterioration in service since my last appointment a couple of years ago. Have lost a 15 year customer and will now use Vision Express as does my wife after a similar very negative experience with Specsavers some years ago !”
“Thought I would try Specsavers in Tenterden due to the reviews and I wish I hadn't the staff seem friendly enough but it's all high pressured sales baloney after 2 weeks picked up my glasses tried for 2 weeks couldn't get used to the prescription so I took them back had another eye test the young optometrist said my brain was at fault, (I've never felt so insulted) she then gave me a weaker prescription, 2 weeks later I got them back and they still aren't right so I can't be messing about anymore and will go to a proper experienced optician, while I was in the shop another customer was complaining out loud with the same complaint as me, so be warned GO ELSEWHERE”
“My 88year old husband with mobility issues had an appointment with Specsavers of Harrogate at 12.00on Friday 30 August. He was given an appointment card for level access. He arrived on time for the appointment and was told his time was 1pm and would have to come back in 1 hour which wasn't convenient. At no stage did anyone appologise or admit that it was their mistake. Surely their staff should have been trained to deal politely with customers.”
“So had the eye test after 15 min wait asked sit n wait for assistance, 45 minutes later I asked at front of shop what I was waiting for, was asked what I came in for, said an eye test, have had it 45 mins ago ? Oh one moment ,3 or 4 people were spoken to all looking at me as if questioning, then was told the clip board had been mis laid ?? I pointed out I couldn't wait much longer as had another appointment Andrew the assistant agreed I could come back anytime and he would sort it phoned on the sunday to see if had sorted passed to 3 people non knew nothing, was assured Andrew was back in tomorrow and would call me ,now is 19.47 monday eve and no call absolutely terrible and a waste of my important time ,how? The shop is only so big ? How could a clipboard go missing? Am going to seek legal advice on thinking that this is medical negligence, was the longbridge branch Birmingham,”
“My husband booked here for ear wax in arena specs saver Coventry. They didn’t take single piece of ear wax. They charged me 60 pound! I did not see this type of worst service ever.He booked another ear wax team in diff sector.Totally waste of money and waste of time!Be aware!Dont go there”
“Went in because of the 2 for one offer - quoted £140 for one pair (£100 frames and +£40 for thinner lenses) - £280 for exact same second pair. How is this allowed? Complained and got a garbled phone message promising to 'explain' how my quote was reached. Bottom line - if exact same glasses are same price again the offer is false advertising.. I'm angry that I've been conned.”
“What went right would be easier to answer - absolutely nothing. Cancelled numerous times and 1 no show. I have to make arrangements for someone to sit with my seriously ill husband and someone to take my dog when these appointments are made. Then I have to cancel these arrangements, inconveniencing other people. Specsavers Home Visits have a nerve to advertise as they do. I eventually told them not to bother coming and I am now looking for other home visit opticians. The lady who answers the telephone is not to blame and should be treated with respect. The fault is with the higher-ups and Specsavers Home Visits should be ashamed of this shambles.”
“I worked for them for many years. The first store I worked in the director was corrupt, selling high index lenses and cutting standard index lenses into custimers frames. The worst part was the director was found guilty of fiddling money and they didnt sack him, they gave him a brand new store to ruin and moved him up north. The second store I worked in had secret payouts of bonuses between directors and managers but nothing for the optical assistants who worked the hardest. The third store I worked at the director was overselling, he instructed all staff to sell occupational lenses and no reading glasses and gave reading adds to patients who did not need them. Another director specsavers knows is corrupt and yet still he is allowed to be working and continuing to bully staff into overselling. This is the same store that provided seats in their staffroom that were fabric and fluffy. After sitting on them in the staff room for over 3 months another member of staff informs they are the old chairs that were on the shop floor but have been bought into the staff room because patients have urinated over them, I was then told they are not clean either, because all the directors do is cover them in shake and vac?? i was horrified! In the leading months one of the older lady members of staff bought it to the directors attention, and said we did not want to be sitting on urinated chairs, that director and I quote said “ im really sorry but we do not have the budget to provide you new chairs after revealing only 20mins earier the stire was making £10,000 a day at least. Specsavers care nothing about their staff, they pay the optical assistants absolute peanuts, not even enough for them to live alone, they all live with their parents. I once asked for a pay rise because of the cost of living crisis, only to he told they didnt have the budget for it, i worked for them for iver ten years and saw only one payrise which was an extra £20 a month in my pay packet. I will never work for this company again. The most corrupt business their is right now.”
“Eye test carried out at Kingswinford branch and was told I could keep my spectacles and have the new lenses fitted at Stourbridge approx. 10 days later.
When ringing Stourbridge to check if they were available for fitting, I was told that Kingswinford hadn't sent them and they would ring and check with that branch. Thirty minutes later, Stourbridge rang back to say they were in their laboratory after all.
Today, I went to Stourbridge to have new lenses fitted.
I went into that branch with no trouble reading - couldn't see clearly to read with new lenses. After retesting the measurements in the lab. and adjusting nose pieces etc.etc.etc. they were still useless.
I asked for existing lenses to be put back in and a refund. This I was told would have to be issued by the Kingswinford branch.
What a waste of a morning!
On being issued with the refund at Kingswinford, the assistant informed me that there was no change to my reading prescription. Really????
I will now have to pay again for a test at another opticians.
Should've gone to Specsavers? NEVER AGAIN.”
“Booked a home visit with Specsavers & were late. Appt booked for between 12noon & 2pm... I'm a disabled lady & I think at least a courtesy call to say they were running late.
I wish I'd read the reviews before I made my appt, I wouldn't have bothered in the first place. Not good enough Specsavers.”
“Terrible Service and Complete Lack of Communication - Avoid Specsavers!
I had an extremely frustrating experience with Specsavers. I ordered top-up contact lenses on the 13th of July, expecting their “express delivery” as advertised on their website. Since I only had two weeks of lenses left and was due to go on holiday on the 3rd of August, I assumed they'd arrive quickly. I continued using my contacts, fully expecting my order to be fulfilled in time.
After a week with no sign of my lenses, I went to the store to check on the status and was told they’d arrive on the 26th of July. I was relieved, as this was before my holiday. However, the 26th came and went with no delivery. When I contacted them via live chat, I was told the lenses wouldn’t arrive until the 10th of August—long after I had left for my holiday.
This meant I had to spend my sunny holiday wearing glasses instead of sunglasses, which was incredibly disappointing.
When I returned from my holiday, there was still no delivery and no update on my customer portal. After wasting more time to chase them up, I was told on chat that my lenses wouldn’t be ready until the END OF SEPTEMBER! Throughout this entire ordeal, I received absolutely zero communication or updates from Specsavers. The lack of customer care was appalling.
To make matters worse, my expensive Viktor and Rolf glasses, which I bought only 9 months ago, started having issues with the right arm bending up. When I brought them to the store, I was brushed off and told there was nothing wrong with them. Predictably, they snapped in the middle of my contact lens fiasco. When I took them back, I was given no other option but to repurchase the frames at the price I originally paid.
I had no choice but to pay because I had no contact lenses to fall back on.
Specsavers completely ripped me off and showed zero regard for my situation. Needless to say, I have cancelled all my accounts with them. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, avoid Specsavers at all costs. They will not help you when you need it the most!”
“I visited the Saffron Walden branch of specsavers last week as the frame of my plastic glasses had snapped, resulting in the lens falling out. I spoke with the owner, Suba Thiara and requested a free repair or replacement. I was told that I would have to purchase a new frame as she would not give a free service. This is not acceptable.
Background info: I had purchased 4 pairs of glasses for £60.00, 2 for reading & 2 for driving, which included a spare for each. The reading frames are metal & the driving frames plastic. I believe the plastic frames are not fit for purpose as I had a previous breakage which were replaced with no charge. I am 79 years old and feel upset that I am being treated unfairly.”
“Ovi (Tottenham Court Road) is a thief
Ovi, the Tottenham Court Road store manager I am told, is a lying, thieving, gaslighting charletan. He first messed up my order, ordering me lenses 100% made from the chemical I expressly and repeatedly discussed with him I am severely allergic to. This was a fact I had discussed at length with an older white man serving there, and two younger women, who had also assisted me in the weeks immediately prior in choosing allergy safe for me frames.
Ovi having ordered me unsuitable lenses, evwntually conceded they were wrong. We then discussed at length the lens types available, I did research on these, and I identified one which might potentiallysuit. Seconds later, we had a 10-15 min conversation about lens coating materials, during which I insisted multiple times I would mot be able toproceed with confirming an order without explicit information as to what the lens coatings comprised chemically, so as not to include my chemical allergen. He made notes of the same on the computer terminal in front of him at the time (which I didn't see) and he then said he was away on Monday, but would call the lab on Tuesdaytomakr further enquiries as agreed as towhatthe lens coating was made of, and would call to let me know then. Having not heard for yet another week, and the phone set to always just automatically hang up on all calls,I stopped by the store yetagain to see whatthw lab had said. He then informed me that he had placed an order, not at all to even my original specifications, without consulting me about the same. Reminding him ad nauseum about this, he proceeded to lie tomy face repeatedly, gaslight me repeatedly anout myallergies, and refused to refund my order. I advised that as they did not correctly fulfil my order, then could not fulfil it, then would not attempt to fulfil it, I would need toinstead go elsewhwre topurchase glasses instead, which he repeatedly agreed I should do. As agreed, I did so and have had no problems elsewhere - it's even much much easier.
Ovi now keeps insisting that as store manager he "cannot" refund my order anytime I speak to him, but insists I " call back" then "visit again" then " call back" on multiple occasions on a broken record loop. He is now insisting that he won't refund my order and is insisting on deducting a fee for the second set of lenses he ordered without my request/permission/consent and in express contradiction of my order as paid for. He is now "unavailable", " uncontactable" and says none of his staff / colleagues have authorityto refund my order either. I am now being held hostage by having to attend their store in person as many days as humanly possible to try to get my refund put through.
Absolutely insane nightmare. Avoid like the plagueand go literally ANYWHERE else.
Such a shame, as the older white guy serving customers up front in the glasses section is a dream to get assistance fromin choosing frames.
Impossible to get the store to follow through or respect their legal obligations though. Ovi is a criminal here.

“I went in today into Spec Savers store in Coquitlam Center,Thursday 8th August 2024 @ 11:20am for my appointment to pick up my two pairs of prescription glasses. I had spent over $1000 dollars on them. The girl said do you want a bag for those glasses? I said yes please. She said you have to pay .30cents for the Bag. She looked at my Bill and said you didn't pay for the paper bag it doesn't say on the Bill. I'am disabled with a cane and have one set of hands left. I had to carry them both by one hand because I had no change on me to pay. I don't think I should pay .30cents after spending over $1000 Dollars. I've never been treated this way before in any other Spec store. It's Disgusting to be treated this way. Luckily I don't have to go back for another two years. I would not recommend that store.”
