"I had to give a star
FRAUD COMPANY, ADVERTISING cheap rentals on carjet and other platforms then claim damages that doesn't exist. DON'T GO AHEAD, IS CHEAP BUT YOU WILL BATTLE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY BACK AS THEY WILL WITHDRAW YOUR CREDIT CARD, FALSIFY DOCUMENTS AND CLAIM DAMAGES. I BRING THE CAR BACK WITH NO DAMAGES, PICTURES BEFORE AND AFTER WITH DATES TO BE CLEAR are NO DAMAGES AND THEY the WITHDRAW MONEY ANYWAY. AND BECAUSE we ACT IN GOOD FAITH AND GIVE our CREDIT CARD AS A WARRANTY IN Case we DAMAGE THE RENTAL CAR, or have an accident, THEY WILL USE THE DOCUMENT TO WITHDRAW YOUR MONEY, WITH NO PROOF OR JUSTIFICATIONS OR DOCUMENTs TO ATEST, PROOF THEIR CLAIM. YOU WILL SPEND SO MUCH TIME DEALING WITH THIS SCAM COMPANY THAT IS NO WORTH IT. ARE GOOD COMPANIES ON CARJET, GREECE WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE, ROMANIA TOO, BUT NOT SURPRICE RENTAL. STAY AWAY ARE COMITING FRAUD. ITS A SCAM COMPANY WITH NO ETICS, WHO CAN'T DO PROPER BUSINESS, HAVE BAD REPUTATION AND EXTORT PEOPLE. SUCH SCAMS SHOULDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO OUR CREDIT CARDS. ALLOW TO OPERATE ON THE MARKET. MY EXPERIENCE WAS IN ROMANIA. WE RENT FROM OTHER GENUINE COMPANIES, WAS ALL GOOD EXPERIENCES BUT SURPRICE CAR RENTAL ITS A SCAM, COMMIT FRAUD AND WE HAVE TO BE AWARE. DON'T RENT FROM THEM. HAVE CHEAP RENTAL BUT YOU WILL PAY THOUSANDS AFTER IN FALSE CLAIM DAMAGES"
"I would like to share an extremely frustrating and upsetting experience I had when renting a car at the Surprice car rental in Lisbon, managed by the branch manager Marco Marujo.

I booked a vehicle through the CarJet platform, with insurance included for a week-long rental. Upon arriving at the Surprice office, I faced a wait of over two hours to be assisted, something that seemed to be a common occurrence as several other customers were equally dissatisfied with the long wait times and the poor service.

When I was finally attended by Marco Marujo, he requested my documents and a credit card to cover a €2,460 deposit, which was supposed to be a reservation in case of any incidents with the car. However, the problem arose when he refused to accept my credit card, claiming that because it didn’t have embossed numbers, he couldn’t process the payment. I explained that I had used this same card at other car rental companies in Portugal without any issue, but he insisted that, according to the company's policy, the card was not acceptable.

I offered to pay the deposit via bank transfer or using my debit card, but he stated that this wasn’t possible. Absurdly, he then mentioned that if I wanted to make a full deposit, the amount would be €24,000, which is completely disproportionate and illogical, as that amount is almost the value of the car itself.

With no other option, I was forced to pay an additional €311 for insurance imposed by the rental company, even though I had already contracted insurance through CarJet. Upon checking the itemized bill, I discovered that this amount included services that I explicitly stated I didn’t need, such as the Via Verde service, along with other completely unnecessary charges for my case. Below is the breakdown of the charged items:

1x Rental Rate: €0,00
1x Cross Border: €45,00 (I have no idea what this is, as I don’t plan to cross any borders)
1x Easy Swap Spain: €56,00 (again, I don’t plan to travel to Spain)
1x PAI: €24,50 (I don’t know what this is)
1x Top Cover, up to 30 days: €185,50
VAT: €58,15
Additionally, it became clear that Marco Marujo was acting unfairly and discriminatorily. When I questioned why my card wasn’t accepted, he made comments implying that cards "from Brazilians" wouldn’t be accepted, referring to cards like mine, which don’t have embossed numbers. The way he framed the issue suggested that, for some reason, Brazilians were less trustworthy or even suspected of fraud, and he outright stated that he didn’t trust me, which was deeply offensive. When I offered to show him my banking app to prove the card was legitimate, he refused to even consider it and went as far as suggesting that I could be showing him a fake video, implying that I was trying to deceive him.

Faced with this situation, I had no choice but to pay the €311 to be able to leave with the car, but this charge was clearly abusive, combined with discriminatory and xenophobic behavior from the employee.

This experience not only reflects the terrible customer service but also the dishonest and abusive business practices of Surprice. They force customers to pay for additional services that were not requested, creating a situation where, at the last minute, the only option is to accept or lose the reservation. I wasn’t the only one facing issues, as other customers at the location were dealing with similar problems, which suggests that these practices are recurrent, as can be seen in the numerous online complaints.

I am pursuing my rights with the relevant authorities to recover the amounts charged unjustly and to report the discriminatory behavior. For those considering renting a car in Lisbon, I strongly advise avoiding Surprice to avoid the same abuses that I faced."
"At delivery they left me in the sun to check the car myself in 43 degrees celsius and disappeared in a hurry, made me feel very uneasy and uncomfortable because of attitude and remarks.
When I did not want to pay the extra amount for the "insurance" to them as they asked, because I already payed insurance online, they told me "well.. if you want to get the car for free" .. and ..."I see you know everything" (quite sarcastically...) when I said I am aware of the potential charges.

The car was a bit dirty with plenty of spots and because they were threatening me with getting a large sum deducted for scratches, I checked every inch for those, but got distracted in the blazing heat and missed a spot, and didn't check the windshield properly.

At return, amongst the dozen spots the windshield already had,, they found the tiniest dot that was definitely there on the day of delivery. I say that and strongly believe it because if you check their reviews, (which I made another mistake and didn't,) you will see many other customer ,played with the same trick that posted pictures of the same dots.
He charged me separately 500 euros for that (2500 RON)

Honestly, I never had anyone checking the car like that and I have been renting cars for over 10 years from all over the world as I travel a lot for work.
He was looking for any possible dot .. I cannot explain how awkward and obvious it was that he was trying to scam me.

Bottom line, Romania is not the place to rent cars for the prices you post in summer ,without making some sort of deal with the rental car company and giving them a lot more extra. Everyone is cheating or scamming someone.. hence the reputation they have .
Stereotypes are there for a reason. It's the only season where they can "earn" so you can see the hunger games happening under your eyes.
I will eventually get the money back from the insurance I hope, but it's a big headache.
Unless you're able to look at every inch of the car with a magnifying glass , as a customer, I am sure there will trap others with this same car issue ( the plate no B 118 TEG). I will ask the insurance to monitor this car plate and see how many other customers will have the same faith as me and supposedly damaged the same windshield in the same RHS lower part. The dot is very conveniently placed and can't be easily spotted and there are other spots around it.

Please check their online reviews! There are so many like me, I assure you we are not all crazy, and the company is really bad, the agents proper thieves and thugs."
