Even in the midst of a pandemic, Sykes Cottages refuse to do the right thing and refund their customers for bookings that cannot be upheld due to government directives not to travel. Instead expecting their customers to amend dates and paying up to £1000 for the privilege if the dates are dearer (and shock horror, they mostly are) and that is if you can even get a date that is convenient! We are unable to rebook in the school holidays for 2021 as no dates available. Unable to switch properties, so nearly half of our party won't be able to come. Disgraceful, especially feel for keyworkers who cannot plan another holiday at a time like this and those that desperately need their money during this crisis. 2 hour 40 minute call hold times just to be told these are "unprecedented times" and they cannot cancel the contract meaning people are unable to claim on their insurance. When I asked why Airbnb have cancelled and refunded their customers, they claimed this was because they (Airbnb) cover more than just the UK-I still don't understand how that makes sense?! Poor excuse of a CEO who has decommissioned his email address during this mess and any emails sent FAO CEO go through to Customer Service anyway, not Graham Donoghue. Greedy profiteers who have not even contemplated refunding partial monies paid. It;s a shame as from their Twitter feed you can see that some of the property owners disagree with their stance but Sykes will still charge them too. I also feel for their customer service staff having to spout the company line when they must realise how empty and unfair it sounds. Best advice-AVOID SYKES COTTAGES.

Refusing to give refund for trip cancelled due to covid-19 travel restrictions. Disgusting attitude, will never use this company again.

I recommend everyone stays clear of this company, paid over £1100 for a Easter holiday. Cannot go because of the present situation.(stay at home which is the correct thing to do). But they will not refund my money Need to be a top lawyer to understand the small print regarding refunds. STAY CLEAR OF SYKES COTTAGES

I am totally disgusted with Sykes Cottages, having attempted to cancel my booking for a holiday cottage in Derbyshire today, following Government directives that all over 70’s must isolate, not go on holiday and stay at home. I am due to go on holiday in seven weeks time - 16th May 2020 and wished to cancel as it seems unlikely that this coronavirus will be over by then. I booked several months ago with Sykes and paid the special offer price of £50 deposit. It should have been £181.50. To cancel the holiday, through no fault of our own, we were charged the £131.50 price to make the amount up to the required deposit price. We have now lost £181.50, as Sykes have refused to give us a refund, we have lost the holiday, and we are both pensioners. I will never book with Sykes cottages again! When I have tried to phone them on several occasions the phone is cut off their end and despite sending several emails, I have received no replies. How can you cope with a company with these morals!

Covid 19 affects us all and I’m certain that Sykes Cottages are not immune from the crisis. I reluctantly accept that they will not refund our holiday over Easter 2020 but take great exception to being asked to pay a higher rate for the same week and property in 2021. I wrote to the CEO advising that competitors were offering rearranged holidays for the same week in 2021 at the same rate with no extra administration costs. He preferred not to respond himself and simply detailed Head of Customer Services to convey the Sykes Cottages policy that all such bookings affected by Covid 19 are subject to the 2021 rate when it is the choice of the customer to re-book in 2021, which in my case will be a 10% increase for the same week. Any sympathy I had for the company in managing the effects of the crisis evaporated with this policy, which appears to line the pockets of Sykes Cottages and their property owners. No attempt to capture the National mood of the moment nor retain clients for the future - merely an attitude of get what money they can from this crisis. Times are truly unprecedented at the moment but treating customers like this will bite Sykes Cottages in the future.

Refusing to cancel bookings even though we are in lock down AND keeping the money. This company is reprehensible and immoral. Steer well clear. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM

Immoral company not giving refunds for holiday makers not being allowed to travel by the government. Also bumping up prices to nearly double to rebook the same holiday for next year. Not sure they realise there’s a pandemic! I hope they are treating their workers ok!

Absolutely appalled with this company. Tried to contact by phone which wasn’t possible and sent them emails which have gone unanswered. We booked a cottage in Anglesey for early May and obviously we will not be going. I asked Sykes to hold the deposit until we can rebook and not to take full amount. They ignored my request, took the full amount outstanding and sent me key details for the cottage- unbelievable!! I’m not sure how we get our money back but will certainly never book with them again and I would advise anyone against booking with them Didn’t want to give them any stars but couldn’t give a review without adding one, I would have given them minus 5 stars.

Cottage owner cancelled our booking as they are I'll, but Sykes still saying they dont do refunds. Means they will keep our money as pure profit, the owner will get nothing and we get no holiday - all despite clause 11 of their booking terms and conditions saying refunds can be considered if they or the owner cancels. Avoid this company, we will be avoiding them from now on.

Booked a holiday for May, but obviously cant go. Was happy to amend the holiday until next year, dates wanted was available so tried to amend online but came up with the £30 fee that is meant to be waived. Contacted them by Facebook on Sunday and confirmed I was right and the system shouldn't be charging the £30. My details was passed to customer services to amend my holiday and to waive this, but they haven't done this. Now today the holiday dates are not available and nothing until the end of 2021 or during the summer holidays which is twice the amount. Tried changing this myself to the end of October 2021 and asking for the full balance that isn't due until Sept 2021, which still includes the £30 admin fee. Have sent another Facebook message and email to them as remaining original deposit due this Saturday and they are still going to collect this even though they know you cant go. No one in the call centre now and according to website only dealing with bookings due next 7 days by email. It is disgusting that they don't action amendments and are trying to take the full balance for holidays next year if you try to amend yourself. Wont book future holidays with them.

As many people we cannot travel to the holiday home booked. Refused refund, can rebook if cottage available with no amendment fee.. thanks so generous!! The prices have been slashed for the same time next year but told we’ll honour the booming at the price you paid??? Owners have insurance surely so they should be covered, Sykes day that if owners have to cancel through no fault of their own refunds will be given, owner says no, you need to speak to Sykes. Going around in circles, disgusting service. I hope nobody books with this awful company ever again

With Covid19 shutting down the world, Travel is now pretty much banned, Co habiting with others apart from your immediate family, A Friends wedding has ben cancelled and MOSt of the country is doing its bit to keep this country going. We find this utterly despicable company that is not offering any refunds for a trip that we now cannot take.Their rebooking for another time at highly inflated prices - on top of the money they have already stolen from us. STEAR CLEAR OF THESE HUSTLERS AND LETS SPREAD THE WORK THAT THEY ARE THIEVEING PEOPLES MONEY during a time when we want nothing more than to be a cohesive nation

They are greedy. Using the COVID 19 to profit. Charging from £30 to thousands to change dates. No refunds. Have stopped communications with customers and owners.

With Coronavirus, I can understand it's difficult for Sykes to cope with the demand from customers to change dates or pursue refunds. I'd be prepared to change dates if we could. But for us, it needs to be during school holidays...and for the next 18 months, what with weddings, an expedition, GCSE exam revision dates and a bunch of other stuff, we cannot currently commit to another date in 2020 or 2021. I'd be happy with a credit note if it were valid for say 3 years. But no - Sykes insisting (via standard automated email) that we must re-book. Come on guys...this is a crisis...you need to more flexible....and you need to find time/scale your operation to deal one-to-one with those customers that need more than 're-arrange your dates.'

Please do not book with this company. I booked a cottage for a remote part of Ireland in July 2019. I paid a balance of £500.00 at the end of February. I have sent numerous emails because Ireland shut down before the uk. The Irish government were telling people only to travel if it was not essential. Leaving in Northern Ireland I was concerned that I might not be able to travel across the border. I sent Sykes cottages numerous questions regarding travelling from Northern Ireland to the south of Ireland. They would send me a generic email back saying all travelling is permitted as the UK have not put in place travelling restrictions within the uk. I would continually write to them that the south of Ireland was not in the uk therefore this advice was irrelevant to me. Unfortunately I never got a reply. I have phoned their office over 100 times and requested a call back but unfortunately I never heard from anyone. As the 23rd March their website has now offered customers to change their booking free of charge. I have since gone onto their website to try and change my booking for the same time in 2021 but unfortunately the cottage is already booked. I even have put in a different date in July but again the cottage is booked up. I feel I have exhausted all options available to me and therefore entitled to a refund. This company are refusing at all costs to issue refunds. I paid for skyes with my debit card through PayPal so I have opened a dispute because I paid for goods in true faith because of events beyond my control I am not getting what I paid for. Any suggestions Skyes have offered to me do not actually work. I think I have been more than reasonable. I have also contacted my bank for credit back facility. I have also been advised to take this company to the small claims court which I indeed to do. I think the world should know about this company and how they have reacted and treated their customers over covid 19. Once this is all over they should be exposed!
