We stayed at one of their cottages with our 1yr old. Who went under the bed playing hide and seek and came out screaming with a mouse trap on her finger, which had injured her!!  Have contacted Skyes cottages who say it is nothing to do with them. Three weeks have passed now and no one has called to discuss it, Frederick and Rebecca from customer services did nothing to help and wouldn't even put me through to a manager to discuss this further. Absolutely appalled and horrified with this service!!

Booked 16 long row in belper through booking.com. Stated pets are allowed. 48 hours later had a call from sykes cottages to say my PET budgies are not allowed as they Are not PETS? Therefore it's a non refundable booking so I will lose my£££££ If I Don make or cancel. Just had long conversation with a female who swears dogs are only classified as PETS budgies are not? Asked to speak to owners if the property. She said they will not change there minds. The holiday isn't until September. Can anyone recommend help please.

We thought booking with Sykes would mean a high quality, stress-free stay. We couldn’t have been more wrong. It was an absolute nightmare stay from the very start - our ‘luxury character’ cottage SixPenny Cottage in Clapton-on-the-Hill was filthy upon arrival and there was no heating or hot water when the weather outside was a freezing -7degrees. We had young children and had no choice but to leave early. It was simply not fit for purpose and it shouldn’t have been allowed. What’s worse is that Sykes have essentially washed their hands of the situation saying they are just the agent and don’t actually have any control over the standard of accommodation and are not prepared to do anything about it. We paid in advance and it genuinely feels like theft. Absolutely shocking!

I originally booked to stay in the Jinnyspinner lodge. You then emailed to say the trips been cancelled due to it being renovated. If this was the case why was it available to be booked? You cancelled the trip just before you closed so we couldn't speak to anyone over the phone. You took the money but didn't give any other options when you cancelled this trip! I had to then contact you again to book another property. We booked the brookside lodge. Surprise surprise you then cancelled this trip due to a " leak " and again cancelled this just before you closed so we couldn't speak to you. After discussing your company with a colleague they informed me they were given the same excuse for their stay last year?! On the morning of New Year's Eve myself and my family were stressing trying to find another property. We eventually found ' Ghyll Bank Byre ' which we then booked and had to pay more for! Which is out of order as our original booking was for £897. To compensate this you offered us another nights stay to check out on the 3rd January. No one stayed as we were all back in work on the 3rd January. The extra nights stay didn't benefit us at all. We arrived at Ghyll Bank Byre to find cobwebs everywhere the place felt extremely dirty. We had a 2 year old child in our party and had to clean the property before we felt it was safe for her to play. There was dead flies on the blinds, the cutlery was dirty. The property felt like it needed a good clean. The owner came and wished us a new year which we felt was very kind. Overall we are extremely disappointed with your service and the compensation of the extra nights stay as previously mentioned this didn't benefit any of us at all, plus you made us pay extra for the Ghyll Bank Byre property.

Description of property on the website did not match the details in the confirmation booking email. On reading the email I realised instantly that this property did not meet out needs for access and we would not be able to visit. I contacted Sykes to see if I could arrange a refund, which I think is fair as there is nothing on the website that indicates the access issue. They have refused point blank to offer even a partial refund. As the booking was made within 4 weeks of going, and despite there only being a matter of hours between booking and trying to cancel, I have had to pay the full amount to cancel. Sykes are really horrible people to deal with and I hope never to have anything to do with them again. Now got no money and no holiday, but an free of the stress of dealing with them ever again.

Dont use this company - total shambles. Soiled carpets, whistling boilers and broken matresses - they say 'its matter of opinion', i say - they ruined our holiday.

USE AT YOUR OWN CAUTION!! My partner and I recently stayed at one of their cottages with our newborn baby. The cleaner stole my partners hair equipment which I got her for Xmas. £500 worth of goods, stolen by their employee. Denied of course, so we are now seeking legal action. Untrustworthy and employ criminals. Avoid

Would you stay at this cottage? See photos, Sykes have agreed the cleaning was unacceptable but have done nothing other than pass the buck back to us as customers. Cottage unfit for purpose unless you want to thoroughly clean before your holiday starts. Sykes call centre were patronising by recommending taking cleaning products with you - really? Does that include spare bedding when stated it was provided - I call the line on mould spores on the sheet due to the cottage being left empty in freezing cold weather - BUT out of a negative experience (again) we made a positive decision - Never to use Sykes again.

Absolutely appalling service from Sykes over the telephone. On the day I arrived at our premises I discovered it wasn’t as advertised. They advertised 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. We were 3 couples. One bathroom had been locked and out of use. I was totally embarrassed as I had made the booking. But luckily I had snap shot the details to my friends so knew I hadn’t made a mistake. The first call handler tried to make me think I’d made a mistake with the details and tried to convince me the downstairs wc was the third bathroom. The second call handler said she wasn’t sure what she could do and would go off to consult. The third call handler decided to argue with me. Said they had emailed but I haven’t received any email or a message on my account which also seems a sensible place to leave me a message! I said they could see from the email software if it had reached me, been opened, bounced etc. she said they couldn’t access this. I work in email market so know it’s possible from the email client. She said they had done what they needed to. I asked to speak to a manager and her response was, ‘there isn’t one available to speak to you and how did I think they can magic a bathroom?’ RUDE is an understatement. I still haven’t been contacted and received an email today to say they had emailed me and the case is closed. I have NEVER had an email. I would not have proceeded with the booking had we been informed there were only two bathrooms. We deliberately were looking for our own bedrooms/bathrooms for privacy. We are couples in our 50’s and our preference is not to share. There is no customer service from Sykes, they take your money and accept not responsibility. The way I was spoken to, was utterly unprofessional, no compassion, no empathy and no attempt to find a resolution. I will not use Sykes again. They still haven’t updated the details for this location and have mis sold the property to me and now others.

Arrived at lavender cottage beadnell 11th December 2022 in extremely cold weather left Monday 12th December due to complete lack of suitable heating we were frozen we should have been there five days. No way we could stay as we’re in our seventies, contacted owner who said he would drop a heater off the next day. One heater would have made no difference at all. Sykes have refused all attempts for compensation saying I have to take it up with owner. Will never use them again

Just returned less than half way through my booked holiday. I selected Lymington Lodge in Lymington, Hampshire. It was advertised as a cosy barn conversion, inside the large garden of the owners and the impression given was of an idyllic, country retreat. Guess what? It was all that. EXCEPT: there was a working gym, open to the public, actually one, small segment of the barn conversion itself. Cue loud voices, clanging of gym machines and very loud , amplified music. When I called the owner she was immediately dismissive and a bit arrogant and said no one else had complained. I responded that I could only speak for myself and this racket wasn't my idea if a peaceful retreat, as advertised. When I contacted Sykes, they sounded sympathetic and admitted they knew nothing of this gym. But -long story short - they did absolutely nothing about it. Not even insisting that the owners mention the gym in the listings. I left because I was so stressed and tense, my holiday ruined. I wish I had known that Sykes have a bit of a reputation for being useless in responding to issues. I will never use them again and, unless you like loud noise thumping through the wall of your holiday let, I would avoid LYMINGTON LODGE like the plague. Lymington itself is lovely, as are many of the locals. But not the owners of the Lodge.

SYKES COTTAGES : ROWAN BANK JACOBS WOOD = upset, disappointment, loss of funds and a lot stress! We have been accused and charged for a damage we did not do. We purchased an additional insurance cover before our trip. If we were guilty we would have claimed on that policy! Strangely Sykes Cottages kept advising us to use the damage cover that we took out, however we have refused it, as we DID NOT cause any damage! How it all started... Upon arrival, after quick verbal introduction by the owner Claire, we were kept outside the property (it was raining and it was very cold). I was freezing, so I suggested going inside to carry on the chat. She declined and told us that she has sanitised the property (despite the fact that the pandemic is over). We didn't think much of it. After 15 minutes of standing outside in cold we finally managed to get inside the property. A few hours later (around 11pm) later my partner realised there was a crack on the fireplace side glass. The fireplace seemed to be thoroughly cleaned, therefore we did not think that the owner is not aware of the crack on the glass! So we have left it. Our bad. We should have rang and emailed the evidence straight away. We stupidly presumed Claire knew about it as she is the one who cleans the property! If Claire brought us inside the property and showed us around maybe she would have realised that the damage was already there? Or maybe she already knew about the damage and simply blamed on us (customers) so we can sponsor the repair? I don't know. To top this up, Claire did not inform us about the damage, she requested Sykes Cottages to charge us. Disgrace and lack of professionalism. We are left extremely upset and shocked that Claire accused and charged us for something we have not done. It is unfair to cause someone so much stress and make them pay for something they have not done! Therefore, PLEASE be aware - make sure you conduct a FULL PHOTOGRAPHIC INVENTORY to cover your back as soon as you step your foot inside Rowan Bank Cottage in Jacobs Wood. Also, Sykes Cottages will not help you, they will happily charge you for stuff you haven't damaged!
