I'm writing concerning the treatment of my parents as holiday cottage owners who have been with them for years. Skyes have not once asked if they are still willing and able to accept guests it's just assumed they are. My parents have been asked to repay all the money they have received in deposits during lockdown which they gladly repaid and have since been unable to contact Sykes they just receive snotty emails every few days accusing them of not completing surveys and failing to respond, which on every occasion they have! They have also been threatened with having to pay back not only the total holiday cost but another £500 on top for each booking if they cancel themselves. My parents are both high risk and the stress is very upsetting to them. If you want to book a holiday don't use Sykes who are a multi million pound company and are treating guests and customers appaulingly. If you haven't paid for your holiday yet..my advice is don't!! Shame on you Sykes...you total shits!

Like so many took booking then said it wasn’t available. I booked through homeandaway who took fees totalling £300, which can’t be refunded until Sykes Cottages cancel the book their end. Tried calling on hold for 2 hours, at one point someone answered then put me on hold. Fraudulent behaviour should be report and investigated

JUST TO WARN ANYONE TAKING UP THE BOOKING FOR OLD MISSION HALL CROMORE ISLE OF LEWIS 10/08/20-24/08/20 THIS IS NOT AVAILABLE AS THIS WAS MY BOOKING THAT WAS CANCELLED BY THE OWNER DUE TO COVID-19. SYKES ARE SHOWING THIS AS AVAILABLE AND WILL TAKE THE 30% DEPOSIT KNOWING FULL WELL THE OWNER HAS CANCELLED ALL BOOKINGS. THE BALANCE WAS DUE TO COME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT ON THE 29/06/20 BUT NOW MY ACCOUNT IS NOT SHOWING THE USUAL BALANCE REQUEST AND I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET A REFUND FOR THE £79.00 I PAID BUT ON MY ACCOUNT IT IS SHOWING A EX-GRATIA REFUND OF MORE THAN DOUBLE THE £79.00 WHICH MAKES ME THINK THEY ARE LYING ABOUT THE REFUND AND I AM WORRIED THAT THEY MAY STILL AND TAKE THE BALANCE DUE. THE OWNER INSTRUCTED SYKES TO MAKE GOOD ALL CUSTOMERS THAT WERE CANCELLED .

I booked before the coved situation . My husband has serious Asthma condition, and I have low immunity due to below normal vitamin 'D' levels. My sister who was another member of the party has a heart condition for which she is receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Birmingham. We asked to change the holiday to easter next year. we were originally given an ok. but received no confirmation. Numerous'e' mails and phone calls but now they want payment for the original date. I wanted to be fair by changing dates. Sykes are totally unhelpful

Still awaiting a refund after Sykes cancelled my holiday 4 months ago! Sykes have turned phone lines off, won’t reply to emails so no way of contacting them to get my money back. I have never heard of a company that just turns off means of contact and ignores customers.

As a property owner who has been with sykes 6 years I am sickened by their treatment of both customers and owners. As we live in Wales, and Sykes were doing nothing in respect of coved even though to date we are still shut down and only able to travel 5 miles, we decided it was not fair on customers, ourselves or the community to take bookings at least up to the end of August. I contacted the customer s myself to make sure they weren't led into paying money for a holiday they wouldn't be able to take. In the last month have sent countless emails, all ignored and sat on the phone for hours trying to talk to someone about the situation in Wales. When I thought things couldn't get any worse I finally managed to speak to someone by saying I was wanting to book. When they realised I was an owner they put the phone down on me. Then today I get a call re someone who wants to change dates , as soon as I tried to explain the situation they cut the line. Disgraceful. Taken it upon myself to contact all my bookings saying do not let sykes take any more money from you. Needless to say we will be finishing with them as soon as possible. Has anyone any ideas how we may stop these rogues as a group? Jan. Wales ( didn't want to give even one star)

We booked a property via Sykes Cottages in the hope that we could have a holiday in August 2030. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 situation we were unable to take time of work so requested for the dates to be transferred to next year. Sykes and the owner refused point blank to come to any arrangement of amending the dates and is refusing to refund our deposit of £1700. Sykes are staying that the contract is direct with the owner and they have no responsibility or involvement in the decision of amending a date. They are obviously wanting to keep our money and have the opportunity to get another booking for our booked dates, it is DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. Please avoid!!!!!

My daughter booked a property for 3, for herself and 2 daughters in Early 2020 for the end of July. We are also staying in the area so it is a family get together that we have had planned for months. Due to the pandemic, my eldest Granddaughter who has additional needs, can no longer go to her summer camp. My daughter has been trying to amend her booking to a larger property as a result, and of course, pay any additional costs plus any admin fee. There are lots of properties available for her dates. She e- mailed Sykes in early May, as she could not get through by phone but got no response, however they took the balance directly from her account. Several days have been spent trying to get through, and on Friday she eventually spoke to Sykes who essentially said, tough. They were only dealing with e mails in date order of bookings -and hadn’t responded though it was sent well before the balance was due. Unbelievable. Absolutely no customer care. She has a holiday fully paid for that she cannot use unless she leaves a child behind for the week. I appreciate it is her request to amend the booking, but Sykes really couldn’t care less. Promised call backs have not happened. Do not book with Sykes. EVER! No wonder their ratings are so abysmal and only 2% would recommend to a friend.

Lying, thieving, ignorant, scum bags. They take your money knowing the lockdown is in place and refuse to refund it. Then come the endless unanswered emails and phone calls. They appear immune to the law and industry regulatorily bodies. Pure corporate filth. Avoid.

I booked a holiday 3 wks ago with a start date of 6th July to be told 4 days later that the owners advised the cottage is unavailable. I have emailed & phoned Sykes (waiting time 1hr 20 mins!) and told I would get a refund for which I am still waiting! Very disappointed with this service especially as they took full payment for a holiday that was never available.

I booked a cottage for July. I needed to cancel because my daughter who has MS needs to shield. I had thought about changing my booking until I read more on line reviews. So, because they were not taking phone calls, I couldn't email because as soon as I put my date of departure and booking reference I couldn't submit it, there is no on line chat so decided to contact their CEO buyt his inbox was closed, so I wrote a letter to HQ, no reply. Their game is to take your balance before you are allowed to change your booking. Then they have your money and you have to fight to get it back if ever. So I contacted my credit card company and put a block on them taking the balance on the due date. I've had 2 texts to ask my to put in my card numbers again as 'there is a problem'. Well ha ha, not likely. They blocked me from contacting them so I blocked them.

So they are giving limited refunds now. Shame they are singlehandedly decimating the UK cottage let industry, will be back to hotels in the future.

They stole my money, like so many others. I just reviewed the Small Claims Court reply. They have denied it all. Guess we will see in court, as I have every single bit of correspondence that proves that they are liars. TAKE THEM TO COURT, especially as they have to travel to YOUR local court. 😺

Diabolical treatment of a severely disabled person who had booked a cottage with Carer’s. Owner refusing to refund money paid for accommodation that had been rebooked due to advice from Sykes re Coronavirus. We are now taking the legal route and have been told this is classed as fraud. Watchdog also now involved please contact them directly with complaints. We have used this company for 7 years and that’s how they treat the disabled

After complaining to Skye cottages we finally had our deposit of £146 refunded . If you’ve taken out Skye cottages insurance they are the ones to contact as that’s how we got our deposit back , and that’s only because I wrote to the fair trading standards about this bad company so don’t give up like we did fight .

Sykes Holiday Cottages is not a business I would recommend for renting a cottage in the UK. I booked and paid a deposit in January 2020 for a cottage in Wales in June. In April, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to cancel my holiday. The Government had put the country in lockdown which meant the contract with Sykes was frustrated/void. Since mid-April, I have been trying to get my deposit back as required by law. Sykes keep on doing everything possible to make a simple refund very difficult. I have written many emails asking for my money back. I got a partial refund but Sykes is still hanging to the rest. I would not recommend this despicable business to anyone.
