Do not use the AA. I am appalled at the service they gave me I have no had 2 very VERY bad experiences with them. Yesterday I broke down on the motorway and it took them 8 hours to come and look at my car. I am a 22 year old women and I was by myself in the dark at night and apparently I was ‘priority’ however, they wouldn’t look at my car on the motorway so I had to be pulled off before they would even see me. They told me they would be there for 4pm they did not sort the problem out until gone midnight. Once they finally came they charged me an EXTRA £450 to get my car home as they only cover 50 miles free … WHAT ARE WE EVEN PAYING FOR IN THE MEMBERSHIP?! DO NOT USE THEM! I will be writing a bad review on every site possible and will be leaving them straight away. I will steer everyone away from the AA that is thinking of joining.

I’m sorry I have to leave this review, as I have the AA through my insurance company Admiral. Last night’s debacle has left me mentally and physically drained. I understand that there is a high volume of breakdowns, but that does not excuse the shear incompetence shown by the AA, and I would advise anyone to walk away now and find a better provider for your breakdown cover. After a front tyre shredding on the M6 at 6:30pm, I managed to get to the hard shoulder and called the AA to collect me and take me to my local garage for repair. The response was positive, and everything was agreed, I was categorised as a high priority and estimated I would be collected within the next hour. Fast forward to 9:30pm and I was still stood waiting on the side of the motorway, in the wind and rain when the recovery truck finally showed up. I was then told, he was only agreed to take me to the nearest services, and that I need to call AA and confirm how I’m getting back to my local garage. After another lengthy conversation with AA I was told I would be collected at 11:45pm from the services and taken to the local garage. Despite me asking 3 times why the recovery truck who took me to the services couldn't have taken me to the garage in the first place, I was stonewalled with excuse after excuse. To add insult to injury, the recovery driver who had dropped me off at the services, re-appeared and told me that “the AA have now paid him" to take me to my local garage. 7 hours of my life gone, for something that could have taken 2-3 hours maximum, all because AA couldn’t organise their external companies. Shocking!

I had some questions about a letter I received and also some issues with merging two policies I have. I usually don't like calling companies to discuss my accounts because they try and sell you more stuff, but this was a whole new experience. I spoke to 3 people (because I had a few different questions about my account), and ALL of them were friendly, upbeat, and SUPER helpful AND I even got a discount on my policy!! I was amazed. Truly great customer service that actually helped me. Plus, the phone was answered in about 20 seconds, and I was never waiting on hold for longer than a minute.

Been a member for years, right now don't know what the hell is going on. My car broke down, waited over 2 hours for recovery truck, when it arrived it's not AA, it's a recovery service, here's the thing, when you pay for membership you'd expect the AA recovery. Recovery service was great, but traveling miles to me added to the wait. AA not what it was.

Had an accident, Waited 3 weeks for nothing to be done despite ringing every other day. Have been served with legal notices asking to pay fees for my cars removal. Waited for a manager to call me and still waiting. In the military so I’m under enough stress as it is. It’s taking it’s toll on me and I need this sorting. 100% will not be renewing with them and nor will my family. Appalling service.

AA have no issues endangering lives - absolutely awful! Left stranded, repeated lied to, had to speak to five different people for over an hour whilst stranded on the side of the road. Despite being over 30 miles from home I'm eventually told they won't come out to me unless I pay an addition charge of 50% my original fee. If I cancel my policy (with 9 months of cover left) I'll receive ZERO refund, this after they tried to automatically renew my policy last year (despite quite clearly telling them I did not want that to happen) at a much much higher price than the year before. Unhelpful telephone staff who really don't care. Thank god I wasn't stuck on the hard shoulder or with vulnerable persons because the AA would've genuinely been putting people's lives at risk. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. (Check their recent reviews...)

3 hours on the hard shoulder of the M1 and repeatedly lied too! Broke down at 4.00 pm waited 3 hours on the hard shoulder of the M1 (rush hour) despite being told I was priority because of the dangerous situation, repeatedly lied to about recovery times, then after 3 hours towed to a service station 2 miles down the motorway by an independent recovery company, waited another hour and a half for a patrolman to turn up to tell me my car needed recovering (which I knew all along and I believe so did they as you are asked for the symptoms when you call) now told it will be 11.30pm before they can recover me for the 150 mile onward journey (which I don’t believe as every single member of staff you speak to lies about the times) you will wait at least 2 hours or more after the time they tell you. Cant have my car delivered to my garage because they are closed as it will be 1.00 am in the morning! and even if I have it dropped off there I have to make my own way home or else get my car taken home and they then will charge you to take it to your garage the next day! so 7 hours stranded so far (that’s if they turn up a 11pm which I doubt) be lucky to get home by 2 am! Personally after being a member for 7 years I will never use them again, they are unprofessional they don’t care and no longer have the resources or ability to look after their members, I would never recommend them! Update 11.23 patrolman arrived but says he can only tow me halfway!!!!!! Is dumping me at a service station 75 miles from home at 1.00 am in the morning I now have to wait to be picked up from there! AA you should be ashamed of yourselves!!!!

My vehicle had been serviced 20 miles ago: front wheels were removed, and the wheel nuts become loose on first motorway drive post service. Steering wheel wobble developed at 60 mph+ vibrating near side wheel loose. So we stopped on the hard shoulder and called the AA. After our first call connecting but not responding to keypad input (and thus being disconnected by the AA - bit stressful post breakdown) we finally managed to get through to the service and described the problem above. We were told someone will be with us within 30 minutes… An entire 2 hours and 45 minutes later, a recovery lorry finally arrived. Not the AA, but a subcontracted group with no road-side assistance equipment or tools. Just a recovery lorry. We were told he will tow us less than a mile to the local shopping centre only. We were told, very defensively, that as it has toilets it counts as a place of safety… Which were of course inaccessible because the centre was closed… After begging the driver to take us home instead (a 5 mile drive), he hesitantly agreed. Feeling relieved the driver casually recalled his day, and told us he actually passed us on the motorway within the 30 minutes he described but instead was going to another job. The job was a defaulted finance agreement on an old vehicle of value approximately £1000. So a stranded vehicle with two passengers, left on a very busy motorway (which was stressed to us by the AA as a place of high danger, and we should leave the vehicle to stand in the pouring rain instead of sitting in it), was deemed as less priority than recovering a defaulted car on finance… Once we were home, I took my pneumatic jack from the garage and fixed the problem within 5 minutes. This should give you an idea of how competent the AA are, how they treat their members, and their value on your lives over money. If you do find yourself in a breakdown situation, perhaps call some professionals instead and not the AA. Find a company whom have *some* value associated with human life, and also if you’re lucky, how to fix cars too…

It doesn’t even deserve one star. After my family has been a customer for over 10year this breakdown cover has been awful. Poor customer service, bad communication and outsourcing recovery trucks to do AA job. Why pay AA when you are going to get someone else to do the job? To be picked up at 4:50pm and by 2am still not home and just left in a Services waiting for the 3rd time to be collected. I don’t believe it is acceptable to leave a young woman broken down in the middle of the night by herself. Putting young women in vulnerable situations and then your customer service team showing no compassion or concern to the fact that help is still a further hour away. When the AA have already failed to turn up multiple time on this journey at times they specified. Also why can’t such a large company proved 24/7 web chat? With phone ques of 25 mins +

Twice in the last few months we have needed the AA to attend accidents we have been involved in. Last week I was involved in an accident on the A14 in shocking weather conditions- but yet again when I selected one as being in a dangerous position the AA did not even pick up the call so twice they have left us without help. We have been with the AA 15 old years but this will be the last. Shocking service and they left us extremely vulnerable - thank you to a police car who parked behind us as protection until the recovery vehicle organised by the police came. Shame on you AA the point of the cover was to be there when we needed you and you weren’t on the very 2 occasions we needed you. Ward - suffolk
