Terrible service and not one to be trusted. I am so upset by the distress caused I think the company needs to be banned.

Absolutely rubbish! My 5 year old father was stranded for for more than 8 hours in the middle of the road with a snapped ball joint and twisted wheel in a busy residential area and still no-one turned up! My father had to call out a local mechanic to repair on the scene to finally go home! This service is absolutely ridiculous. They are fooling people into buying cheap breakdown cover for no service. People need to wake up! I've heard same stories about the AA where someone was told the waiting time was 72 hours!

Went on the app . Was texted my wait would be 270 minutes at 1500 hours. Gave up in the end and recovered the vehicle myself. Not much use as a breakdown service. Renewal coming up soon. Will be looking elsewhere

Make what you will of the following sequence of events: 17/12 initial breakdown, RAC contractor attended, said the car needed to go to a garage. I am 220 miles away from home. 18/12 car collected by contractor. Job marked as complete and delivered to my garage. 19/12 car and key missing. Garage have not received it. On ringing the RAC, they have no idea where my car is and cannot get hold of the contractor who took it. 20/12 RAC finally find my car dumped at a services approx 150 miles from home with the key inside a shop in the services. Report it won't be collected until 28/12. I have organised my own recovery at a cost of £300. RAC call handler completely unapologetic and has no idea if I'll be reimbursed. Absolutely speechless.

My son's car broke down few miles from home. It took the RAC over 30 mins for them just to answer the initial call. When we got through we were told it would be a 4 hour wait, after 4 hours wait we were told it would be a further 6 hours, then we were told it would be 14 hours or next day.. All this while my son was stranded a a busy junction.. Eventually we organised our own rescue. The RAC is a waste of time and money

Waste of time, I have home start but wouldn't come. They stated too busy and prioritising road side breakdowns. I can't get to work and work 55 Miles away from home. No contact from them and can't get to speak to anyone, what a company!

Great service from the RAC. Phil from Halesowen came to me in Redditch this morning. Despite him being poorly he drove to Bromsgrove to get the part for my car and fixed it. Above and beyond what he should have done. A credit to the RAC. Fantastic service.

RAC is Rubbish team, I reported the car broke down last night, and I went to work at 11 o'clock today, but no one responded. Would never use this lousy company. It is also a fraudulent company. I bought a free replacement battery and 4 tires. A few months ago, the car could not be started. The technician came and told me to start and run for 2 hours to keep charging. After a week, I paid for the battery installation. The tire puncture was the same result this time, and I paid for the tires myself. Please be careful with this rubbish service company.

Absolutely shocking, 3rd-rate service. My daughter has only been driving for a few months - her car broke down on a cold, wet night at 1130pm. At 5am a local breakdown service eventually arrived, there being no RAC patrol available. The local operator hadn't even been requested until 3.30am, despite the RAC knowing my daughter was alone. Needless to say, we'll never pay for RAC cover again, and will spread the word as to the shocking level of service provided.

My daughter phoned RAC at 2 am and at 21.30 we’re still waiting. Crazy. What a waste of time and money. She’s given up and decided to stay the night where she is.

My car broke down at 1400. Walked back to work to report the breakdown online because the last time I called, had an auto message to say, go online to report it. So reported at 1400. Left the car in the car park. Was texted "We'll be with you in 240mins" Why can't you just say 4 hours? Coworker dropped me back at the car at 1800 to wait in -5. When it reached 2030, I called a friend to come tow me instead. 2200 The man in the van called me to say he was on his way. Told him that it wasn't his fault for the delay, but I've already been towed home and to cancel the recovery. Even if he had got to me, Last time I had the RAC out, they couldn't start it and couldn't tow me either, so that was another two hour wait for a flat bed. Will be cancelling my membership as each time I need them, they're just not helpful, at all.

Just useless. My car came off the road in the snow on a country lane near a big hill and was very close to rolling all the way down every time I released the hand-brake, there was really nothing I could do. I called these clowns and didn't even get to explain, the operator just said 'We don't deal with vehicles stuck in snow'. I didn't get to explain that if my car rolls forward half a yard it is going to fall down a hill towards a row of houses. The operator told me to call the Police, I did that and the Police said call the Fire Brigade, I did that and the Fire Brigade said it's a recovery issue that my insurance/breakdown provider is responsible for. So I called the clowns again and told them firmly the dangerous situation and what the emergency services had said, the operator still declared it is not RAC's policy to aid customers stuck in snow. Why is that? He then advised me to wait for the snow to melt! I was a good 2 hours walk from anywhere and had been on hold for so long my battery was nearly flat. Wait for the snow to melt? Seriously? Ended up calling a friend to drive 45 miles out in dreadful snow and we spent 3 hours dragging my car back from a drop that seriously could have killed people. Then his van got stuck and we had to dig that out. In the process I punctured my tyre, maybe now my vehicle damage falls under RAC's policy? No, called again on my friends phone to be told that the flat tyre is irrelevant and the original call-out was for a car stuck in snow. Even hinted that I had deliberately punctured my own tyre! All their adverts about peace of mind and caring about their customers, nonsense. I sort of appreciate that their policy is what it is and I should have read every little detail but all I needed was a simple tow that I am sure they have the ability to do, having read other reviews I can see that this is another company happy to take your money and then try to avoid doing anything for you. Main excuse is 'We are experiencing high volumes of calls', well a good business knows how to cope with high demand and that is a real cop-out of an excuse as it still puts the blame with RAC for not being able to meet the demands and serve all of their customers. If you can't handle high volumes then you have failed as a service but it's your customers who are the ones that suffer. Wait for the snow to melt, that's top grade advice and money well spent!

On 14th December 2022 I was stranded 60 miles from my home when my car wouldn't start. I waited for six hours for RAC before they rang me and told me that they wouldn't be coming because they didn't have a driver in the area, they told me they would be handing it off to a third party who would probably arrive that night. At this point its 9pm on one of the coldest nights of the year and I told them I couldn't risk being stranded here overnight with my car and had to have a family member drive out and take me home. Don't fool yourself into thinking that being covered by RAC is going to be your safety net when you need it, this company is actually garbage.

Appalling Service My Complaint Initial call at around 14:00 went fine got an estimated time of around two 2hrs, I notified the call operator than this is a mobility vehicle and we have a disabled person on board and would need a wheelchair taxi to transport her home, I was told this gets arranged when the recovery arrives. I received a call around 15 minutes later asking were is the vehicle going to, to which I answered I don't know its a mobility vehicle and needs repairs as it is undrivable. Anticipating problems I called some taxi firms no wheelchair taxi's available. I then proceeded to arrange alternative transport as the weather conditions were freezing and light was failing.. At 16:00 I called RAC again asked for progress and was put on hold for around 2 minutes. The operator then said they were waiting for me to call them back with an address to where the vehicle will be taken, once again I said I don't know as it needs repairs,. At this point I was discussed as I was not told this in the initial call and follow up call (Please listen to you recording) the operation was rude and said I should know this. I was then told that the vehicle would not be recovered until I had a address to where the vehicle would be taken. (This is absolutely appalling as there was a disabled person in a wheelchair still in the vehicle in freezing conditions (this person is wheelchair bound has a swallowing disorder and needs specialized food and drink.. Your call operator would not listen and the alternatim stood if I don't give a address to where the vehicle will be taken no recovery. I said that they can take the vehicle to the owners home address and gave the operator the address. I then informed the operator that the vehicle was going to be left at this stage to which I got a rude reply that then he would close the job. At this point and before this point I was fed up with the operator's lack of knowledge or understanding and may have become somewhat agitated that this person would not listen and kept telling me to listen to him. I left the vehicle there and took the disabled person and her support staff (the driver) back to her home as all attempts to reason with your call handler had failed. I then complained RSA Motability and they then took the recovery further. I received a call from RAC at around 6pm letting me know that there was no RAC recovery vehicle and that this job had been outsourced. I was asked to return to the vehicle, I explained that this was not going to happen and once again explained the circumstance as to why we left the vehicle, this call operator seemed more understanding and said they would put a note on file. I then received a call around 9pm from the recovery company (who were professional and I cannot fault anything they spoke to me about) to get directions to the vehicle. RAC Response Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I'm xxxx and it's my job to look into your experience and let you know what happened. I understand you were unhappy with the attitude of our Breakdown Specialist on this occasion when you called during a breakdown on 13 December 2022. Whilst I'm sorry you've felt the need to raise concern, I can confirm my colleague was correct in their advice. RAC does not know where a vehicle needs to be taken and it is down to the customers to check with their insurance and let us know the tow destination. I apologise for any misunderstanding and I'm sorry you feel aggrieved by the situation. Our customer's satisfaction is of paramount importance to us and I'm very sorry you weren't happy with the way your call was handled. I'd like to thank you for contacting RAC and I assure you that in no way was any discourtesy intended towards you. Just so you know, I've passed on your feedback to the relevant team to make them aware. The RAC has been around for 125 years, and feedback from our members has always helped us improve our service. Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention. Yours sincerely

Broke down on Sunday morning at 11am , rang the RAC told it would be a 2 hour wait , RAC turned up at 7pm . Got told the car would need to be recovered , it’s now Wednesday at 5pm I’ve been chasing the recovery since Sunday night , …RAC call centre is totally useless , spoken to probably everyone in the call centre . Total lack of communication not one single phone call or text message so far .spoke to one helpful person in the repairs department… he is the only person that has contacted the recovery company to find out what’s going on . Just been informed that the recovery vehicle going out to my car has now broken down and it’s now going to be Friday before it’s collected . ..this has got to be some kind of record …my advice don’t bother with getting RAC cover they are useless …after some 30 years of paying into this lots pockets I’ve had to use them just this once ..RAC your a totally waste of time and money

Was with RAC nearly 7 years & only once in that time did we ever get someone who attempted to fix the issue. The last couple of times I’ve had to call them out they haven’t even sent anyone until the next day.. was paying around £27 a month for what! I’ve recently changed over to AA, same package for £11 a month.. hopefully their service will be better if we ever need to use them.

Rang at 07:30 to ask for recovery to garage got a call at 11:15 asking if I would wait until next day as they where busy when I explained again that I was stuck by the side of road they agreed to get recovery truck waited 5 hrs so rang again at 16:15 only to be told they wouldn’t be able to recover me to garage. I then had to wait another 2hrs 15mins for a call to say a taxi was going to pick me up and take me home with another taxi to take me back to car in the morning to wait even more. I think RAC have forgotten what good customer service is.
