I KNOW IS EVERYBODY STRUGLING DURING COVID TIMES BUT INCOMPETENCE IS THE SAME AT ANY TIME! I've got driver broken down on M4 and waiting for seven hours and recovery time just being added and added. Just been advised by one of numerous advisers I spoke during the day that only three hours later RAC passed my case to correct Commercial department even when I insisted on first call that van is long wheel base and must be handled by appropriate recovery vehicle. This is third instance during 2020 where RAC can't process it call out correctly and never made recovery vehicle to arrive in less that six hours. What can I say - BOOOOOOOO! Time to call AA update 8.5 hours still waiting! Miracle!!! we started 1:10pm and 21:37pm recovery truck arrives. 22:05pm celebrated too early as recovery truck has problem with platform and can't load van up :( 22:13pm van loaded up and driver in the taxi over three hours until gets home. to be continued tomorrow, we will see how RAC will manage to get van to designated address two hundred miles away as promised. I wonder does anyone @ RAC look at customers feedback? Thank you Conor for noticing my feedback. The recovery ordeal is not finished as yet. All though driver after many hour waiting on M4 has been taken home by taxi I'm still waiting for RAC to advise when van will be delivered back to us. I hope at least this part of service will be without delays. ***Two days later, I'm wrong as van still not delivered and it will not be delivered over the weekend. So looks that recovery will go in to day 5! GREAT SERVICE RAC! ***

We waited over 5 hours, and abysmal customer service and misinformation whilst stuck in a car with 2 children with special needs in the freezing cold, they lied when they asked where they were and told us they would be 15 minutes for and took 2 more hours. To clarify we were parked on double yellow lines and were blocking a fire exit. When the only thing wrong with it was the battery and took about 10 mins to fix! Also tried to offer us a battery for £229 which is way overpriced and exploitive.

It's a shame you can't give negative stars! It looks as if my experience waiting over 3 hours with no communication is normal for them. Not to mention the abysmal customer service. I'll only ever go with the AA after my terrifying experience waiting for the never never. Shady company.

As other people have written, 1 star is being generous. I called the RAC and was told I would need to wait for 3 hours as they were busy which I understood. After 4 hours I called up and they said they were still trying to find a vehicle to recover my car. I was constantly lied to saying the recover vehicle will be with you soon. After 9 hours waiting in the car (which was 3 in the morning) they said I best get a taxi home as there were no recovery vehicles available (24 hour service I was told) and they would try and arrange my car to be recovered in the morning. Next morning I phoned up from home for an update and said the recovery vehicle was expected to be at my car at around 10:20 and they would notify me when 30 mins away. Around 11 I get a phone call saying that the recovery vehicle was at my car and where was I, less than 5 misn after I called the RAC for an update. By the time I was able to arrange a taxi the vehicle was stood down due to no fault of my own. After chasing the RAC to arrange another recovery vehicle there was no communication on what was happening. After around 20 hours I cancelled the recovery as I managed to arrange with a local company to collect the car and drop it at a local garage, all within 60 mins. I am currently in the complaints process to try and recover my recovery fee and membership fee and am being passed from pillar to post. Luckily it was just me in the car, if it had been my wife and family it would have been a different matter and I would avoid using the RAC again at all costs. We went for the RAC as we felt they are a well respected company and I thought they could be trusted, I now know that is wrong from my experience and reading the reviews of others.

If I could've left zero stars I would. I rang to cancel my membership 2 weeks before expiry. However, they still took the money from my bank account. I rang to discuss and was put through to the most confrontational and rude customer service assistant I have ever spoken to in my life! She virtually accused me of lying and constantly spoke over me. Eventually, she agreed to a part refund (it will take 8-14 days!) but charged me with a £35 cancellation fee. I have now made an official complaint about this and her extremely rude manner. My money will spend anywhere and it certainly won't be with the RAC be that now or in the future. Disgusting customer service.

I waited 3 hours in the cold before RAC arrived. According to report I just received, it states that I needed a new battery. My insurance covers new battery. I was not fitted with new battery.

Would have given NIL stars, shocking so called service. I broke down completely flat tyre that burst, rang RAC who told me I had to wait 4-5hrs; I cannot just walk out if work at there request. They are supposed to be there in the hour or so they advertise, what a joke. I've had to leave my car in a bad area and hope that a decent company such as Manchester Breakdown Services will help me in the morning ( I will keep you posted on there reliability). My policy is 200110005285191 with RAC, what the hell am I paying for? I will be cancelling and go back to Green flag! At least they don't leave women stranded!

My son and daughter in law waited 6 hours after their car broke down, my daughter in law was on her way to the hospital to pick my son up after having surgery when the car broke down when phoning them she stated what happened and my son had just came out of surgery and they told her to take care and they we be there when they can 6 hours later they sent a van and the driver said I can’t fix that you will have to wait for a tow truck, all in all 9 hours they waited in Chelmsford city Essex which isn’t in the middle of no where so surely they should have some tow trucks at hand , they are quick enough to take your money I will never be using the RAC again.

Disgusting service, wish I could leave zero stars. I could honestly write a book about my terrible experience with RAC but I will try to keep it as short as I can. So I am paying £14 a month for a full membership which covers me for unlimited callout and up two days car hire. The reason I went for the advanced membership to be covered in every department in case of a breakdown as I have a business of my own which heavily relies on my car. So my car breakdowns Monday evening. Patrol arrives within the hour fairly and gets the car booked in for 9am Tuesday to be towed and taken to my mechanic as it had a dead alternator. No one turns up in the morning I rang them up, got told to wait and recovery will arrive within the next two hour, also got booked in for a replacement car which I got told I will get before 5pm. No recovery arrives and I rang every hour for an update since and only to be told ( we are sorry , we will escalate it for and there is nothing else we can do ) the whole day. Gets to 4pm and I get told no replacement car available and still no recovery. I start to lose patients as I have lost a full day work. My complaints gets passed over to the special intervention team and a manger gets put on on my case. She apologised and promised me the car will be picked up in the morning between 10-10:30 and a replacement car will arrive 12:30 . she promised she would deal with it herself and gave me a direct number to call if there is any issues. Wednesday morning, still no recovery so I rang again and get told the exact same things I have been hearing all day the day before. I asked to speak with the manger and I get told I will receive a call within half hour . Same thing happens every hour I am forced to ring . Recovery gets booked in and strongly promised for 1:30 the 2:26 . To end the story .. day about to end and garage about to close still no recovery , no replacement car and no call from the manager. All I have is a phone full of messages saying someone will call you shortly, job has been assigned and they are on their way to you. So after two days of waiting , I am forced to get private recovery and use taxies as I could not have my business being closed any longer. Two days business being closed Ended up paying more than £200 on private recovery and taxies. Completely drained with no energy left after being on for two days. I cancelled my membership and got the same one with GreenFlag which cost me £5 a month. I have referred the matter to financial ombudsman and will hire a solicitor if I have to to recover my loses. Two things still sticks at the back of my head. 1- On Tuesday I got told by one of the members that there were more priorities than me with motorways breakdowns and it resulted on recoveries on the way to me being cancelled and send elsewhere. 2- On Wednesday after complaining about a replacement car I got told that replacement cars were subject to availability and it was written in terms and condition and if I am not happy about it I am free to go make complaints and there will be nothing I could gain from it.

Broke down one afternoon after RAC attended told I would need recovery of my motor home . From about 5pm until midnight I lost count of the number of call made to try and establish a time of arrival for the recovery vehicle . At about midnight told they would be unable to get a recovery vehicle one until next morning. A number of deadlines came and went the following day I was eventually transported to a garage around 5.30pm. In total I had been subject to await of over 24 hrs. Very poor service and after reading other reviews I see that other drivers have also experience a very poor level of service.

If I could but 0 stars I would. We called the RAC at 8 in the morning, and it’s currently 6 on the evening and we have been left stranded with our baby in the freezing cold. We have explained that it’s a dangerous environment for the baby and we are running out of his milk, however no help or call back in over 3 hours! I’m beyond furious and I’m hoping my child will not become Ill. They told us to leave the keys in the car, which isn’t safe at all! They lack empathy or any care at all. I would stay clear of going with this company. I’m disgusting beyond belief that they are happy to leave a baby in the cold, with no where to take him, and no updates at all to when someone will come and help us!
