Dont bother with the BHF, I've removed my donation to them from my will. A terrible experience, the collector was negative and surly and tried to find fault with everything, he didn't want to walk up the side of the house, he said chairs didn't have fire labels, they did. It was evident he didn't want the bother of taking the furniture.

Rude disinterested when came to assess my moms furniture. It says they take electrical items but turned down some beautiful table lamps. Turned down 2 sofas and a lovely fireplace surround. Not quite sure who they think they are.....

The two volunteers (I respect them for that) showed little interest in taking my three piece suite, too old according to them,it is in good condition with all safety labels attached,my impression was that it would take too much effort to get the furniture out of the house, not impressed at all ,one star for turning up -donor ref1701776 collectionref 700575-B221022906

Arranged collection of small single bed, arrived on time checked condition which is excellent took the mattress but refused to take base. Stated it was a roll under guest bed! This is wrong it is a divan bed with legs. Very disappointed will never donate again to this firm, this would be a perfect bed for someone in need, now the base is going to the tip added to landfill what a waste.

I understand the BHF collectors need to examine donated items for safety compliance, condition etc. However, their list of what they will and will not accept does not make it clear that there are other checks that will be made. I had garden furniture rejected because it was plastic and the collectors told me they only accept metal furniture. My 18-month-old Fridge Freezer was rejected because I was told the corner of a door seal could be pulled away from the door and was coming unglued. The door seals were all a push fit and if pulled will come off! A chest of drawers that was approximately 60 years old, in good condition and never repaired was rejected because the drawers were considered to be too weak to hold anything safely! My dining room table would also have been rejected as it still had legs when the BHF collectors arrived and told me they only take tables if the legs have been removed. Fortunately, I was able to remove them! Several times the collectors commented that their store already has too many sofas, chairs, beds etc giving the impression BHF do not really want donated furniture currently. A very disappointing experience but fortunately others were keen to take all the items they rejected.

So very disappointed with the BHF, having previously had excellent furniture collection experiences in Oxfordshire and always found the staff at the BHF shops very friendly, helpful and grateful. The booking was fine, except it's pot luck if you get a reply when phoning them to check anything. However, it was the collection team that really let them down and made the whole donation an extremely unpleasant experience. Firstly, the collection team only gave us 5 minutes notice of arrival time (we were told 30 minutes) within the 9-5 window, which is a long time to have to stay in when giving a donation. Upon arrival, the 2-man team was not friendly at all and it became obvious very quickly that they would do anything to find a reason not to take our lounge suite. They checked all the fire labels (reasonable enough) then said the springs weren't good enough in one item. After explaining that my 89 year old mother had no problem with it, luckily they agreed to take it. They then tried to get it through the door and decided that they couldn't (despite the fact it had originally come in through the same door!) and were in a hurry, so would have to rearrange a new collection date. I said this wasn't possible as our new suite was due to arrive. So my poor husband (in his 70s and with very bad knees) had to find the tools (they do not carry any!) and kneel on the floor and unscrew the 4 wooden feet from both the sofas. The two men stood and watched and one in particular kept making "fed up" faces and tutting and saying they couldn't wait. No offer of help at all! Had my husband not been able to do this, we would have been left stranded with the old suite! We both felt extremely uncomfortable having them in our home and they were very unhappy having to do their job. I asked if they were volunteers and they said that they were contractors, so paid to do (or not in their case!) the job. I asked if there were many collections where they just walked away because they found reasons not to take the furniture and they said there were! So beware! I wish we had looked at the reviews before offering it to the BHF.

Hello, A couple of months ago, I bought a sofa bed for £100 from British Heart Foundation (BHF). I got it delivered, I opened it and cleaned it thoroughly. I noticed some stains on the bed. One of the hundreds of paid BHF employees should have cleaned it before selling it but they had not. Then I cleaned it as much as I can and moved on. I travelled a lot this year and therefore I did not use the sofa very much and I did not use the bed at all. Then, recently, I have decided to get rid of the sofa and bought a new one. Booked a collection with BHF. They came, “examined” the sofa very seriously but left without taking it. The reason was that there were stains on the bed! First – is BHF a charity or a furniture company trying make a market? With the correct pricing, the sofa could have gone to someone in need. You do no need to price everything very high as you always do. You are not in a competition in the furniture market. We do not need a BHF with the image of a high-end luxurious good business. Second – you are accepting pre-loved stuff not brand new. Third – it is ok to sell it to me stained but it is not OK to take it back in even a better condition. Forth - What do dozens of BHF employees do? Is it too much work to clean stuff that you take for free? That is really unacceptable action for a charity. Respectfully - where does this arrogance come from? Regards

Don’t even bother, they clearly don’t want the furniture and drivers don’t want the work. My sofa had no marks and was leather so obviously with it being second hand the material had faded slightly. No rips, no marks, perfectly good condition but refused to take it. Absolute joke! You would think they didn’t want it. Never again. Go with anyone else!

Avoid avoid avoid such a waste of time. I had 3 king size mattresses + king size bed * 2 large dressing tables in a very good condition BUT drivers kept looking for any excuse Not to take them until they found a small spot on the mattress so they refuse to take everything. They knew it’s charity & collecting used things. I agree with all bad reviews they have s My advise don’t waste your time to contact them or wait for their collection because they’re Not going to take anything.

Take my advise & Avoid them they’re extremely bad & a waist of time. I have 3 king size mattresses in very good condition with fire label + king size bed with 4 drawers+ 2 large dressing tables BUT guess what, on collection date they kept looking for any excuse Not to take them like small spot on one of the mattresses & small scratch on dressing table as if they wanted brand new furniture. They wasted their time & mine plus the money they could’ve saved for someone else who need them. Especially king bed now cost over 500£ , mattress over 500 & a dressing table 500£.

We offered two good three piece sofas made to feel unclean as they inspected only to refuse could of easily given on freecylcle they said one cusion slightly stained and few claw marks from cat wich after we removed easily this is meant to be charity organisation and yes the furniture is second hand and not perfect but yet been to there shops and much worse condition in there so dissapointed with bhf if you want new products don't make people wait in to do charitable deeds to be declined terrible never will i donate ever again to this charity that just want almost new quality and not willing to uphold true recycling principals aviod avoid avoid other charity's only too glad to take quality furniture that may be little sign of general use that they can sell without huge mark ups for checks by managers that make you feel awful to donate

Avoid! Complete waste of time and fuel. Rude booking and collection staff. Think they’re forgetting they’re a charity! Not as advertised at all.

My friend returned some items for myself to the Middlesbrough branch Which I had bought at the bishop Auckland branch They were far too big .when I tried them on. at home I buy nearly all my clothes from charity shops as I am a big girl So it's nice that I can return them for a refund if they dont fit My friend has refused to take anything back for me to Middlesbrough ,as the lady was not very pleasant I think she was the managers ,dark haired with glasses She wanted to know why I wasn't bringing it back Saying I got around a bit .because it was not Middlesbrough Also because ,there's not a lot of cash in the till also some trousers she returned she said they wouldn't sell them at their shop It was like a Spanish inquisition she said I do Get around a bit as I go to different hospitals for different appointments. And always try and have A look in whatever's charity shop is about So I think .terrible customer service .with that attitude

Tried to donate an expensive bedframe and they wouldn't take it because the inside (ottoman bed) had a tiny rip in the material. It didn't affect the use at a and you couldn't even see it unless you physically got inside the bed. Instead we had to throw a perfectly good bed on the tip. Waste of space and extremely rude collection staff. Will go elsewhere in future with donations.

Very grumpy and basically if it's effort for them to carry down the stairs they will not bother.

Collection service is appalling. I agree with all the negative reviews. The drivers were not interested in taking the larger item even though it’s in excellent condition. They kept finding fault with it! It’s so sad that it could be sold to someone who needs it rather than drivers being lazy and not taking.

Bought a sofa from BHF on Sunday - delivery was today. Rude delivery person... (Older 1 of the 2)aggressive, unhelpful. Had decided it wouldn't fit in my door before they tried. Consequently, I had to get them to try and he got angry and swearing in another language. Noticed rips and damage on the sofa that were not there on Sunday. He said they were there already. I believe that they had damaged it and didn't want it delivered. They broke my plant pot when leaving as they had no intention of getting it in my apartment. No apologies just nasty aggressive behaviour. I actually was so upset that I cried when explaining this to the complaints department. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I will never use them or donate again.

After trying unsuccessfully to contact someone online and on the phone to come and give us a quote to collect some furniture from my deceased parents house, I finally visited my local shop in Wandsworth to make an appointment. No one turned up, no one answers the phone, I tried many many times. I was annoyed as I am busy and have to take time off to be at the house. Finally someone called to reschedule. They promised me this time someone would definitely come to give me a quote… guess what, another no show, no call or message and again no one bothers to answer the phone. I chose this charity because of my dads bad heart but they really don’t care at all. Save your time, chose another organisation!
