Currently staying at East Row Lodge in Sandsend. We read a review just before coming away which stated that a toilet wasn’t working and, despite complaints, was not mended during the course of the holiday. We emailed Sykes before our break and received an email to confirm that a plumber had been out and the problem fixed. A blatant untruth! We reported the problem within half an hour of arrival on Saturday but Syke’s staff claimed that they couldn’t get through to customer services. I tried to contact them online but no joy there. My disabled sister and her husband have the bedroom with the en suite but we, in our seventies, are unable to use the second bedroom as we need access to a toilet in the night. It has cost almost £1400 to stay in a place where the only accessible toilet for us is outside!!!! We intend to go into Whitby tomorrow to see if a personal request will sort the problem. I’m not holding my breath.

Booked a weekend in Buxton . Unfortunately person who booked then unable to go but rest of group ( 7 ) went . Extensive damp / black mild in property . Have completed online comments form but unable to attach photos so contacted customer service who refuse to talk to me without permission of the person who booked although they did not go .Person who booked has given permission for me to contact them but clearly Sykes wants to make it as difficult as possible for people to contact them .

Had a fantastic holiday in cornwall. Was worried because had no communicatiin from sykes all the way thru the pandamic. I feel so sorry for all the people this company is failing. Their customer service is non existent! Used to find them good. Not anymore. They bombard you with holidays. I am very reluctant to book with them again due to lack of response during covid.

Cottage owner tried to say we’d caused damages. We proved we hadn’t but Sykes ignored this and decided just to take money from my bank account. There is no innocent until proven guilty with Sykes, just opportunity for more money.

After searching for days to find a short break in the North East to visit family we finally managed to book a cottage with Sykes Cottages - As with all holiday booking sites when you land on the page it asks you about dates, number of adults and number of children, I completed all the fields and began my search. After spending a number of days looking we finally managed to land a booking with (The Pheasant) in Bowes. I paid the amount in full at point of booking. Following on from the booking we started to look at things to do in the area, we proceeded to book family park tickets for Flamingo Land and also family tickets for a day at Barnard Castle. All booked, all confirmed, we could relax and look forward to the holiday next month. OHHHH NOOOOO today 29.9.21 (nearly a week after our booking was made and paid for) Sykes cottages have "Regrettably" emailed us to advise that they have cancelled our booking because the property doesnt allow children (if thats the case why did it come up in my search where I entered two chilidren?!?!) At no point has any one from Sykes apologised for the hassle they have caused us until I have now escalated to the complaints department who are now looking into it. The service shown from this business is not in my opinion fitting with the likes of Centre Parks, Hoe seasons, Forest Holidays all of which I have stayed with and never been treated like this. I will NEVER book with SYKES cottages again after this!!

They are not interested in customer relations. They ignore any reasonable complaints. Do not reply to emails and are very rude on the phone. Stay away from this company

Awful company to deal with! Had to get my bank involved who transferred the deposit I paid back to my account , they then tried to take it again and the bank refused saying they would take them to court accusing them of fraud. Never heard of them again. Never go near them is my advice.

Paid £4000 for a week at Stepping Stones in Catterick - large house which albeit in a lovely setting is not everything it promises. The list of problems and issues is, quite frankly, endless. Doesn’t resemble the pictures or description and what should have been a hassle-free week turned into a comedy of errors and ‘let’s spot the next problem’. It was clear very quickly several things were broken, missing or simply filthy. One towel per person for an entire week. A missing lightbulb in the lounge lamp. A kitchen doorhandle that kept coming off in our hands. Nail sticking out the bedroom floor. Toilet handle that kept dropping off. And then a “blocked” shower that poured water into the kitchen. Finally fixed on the 4th day of our holiday. As we only had 3 days left in the house by this point and although we could have reported the rest of the list of problems it would have been impossible to resolve in that short a time. Also to be frank we didn’t want more people interrupting what should have been a peaceful holiday. Complained to skyes, took over a month and constant harassment to get a response which was basically "tough luck". I'll never book with them again and suggest you don't either.

If I could give a minus score I would. Sykes contacted me 8 weeks before a July 2021 holiday to say there had been a dreadful leak in the apartment In Salcombe & the owner was cancelling all bookings. The cost of the week was £3k. Of course there was nowhere else available at such short notice (family & friends there that week, restaurants booked, excursions organised & paid); Sykes suggested Anglesey where they had availability. I checked on Rightmove; the house was sold subject to contract. I called the estate agent who said the house was in pristine condition and no sign of a leak. Sykes lied: they would have to honour my booking if the real reason was given. Instead they refunded my deposit but I had to find other accommodation in Salcombe which was incredibly difficult. I did find another apartment, £500 more, not as nice and in a very inconvenient location. I have called & emailed to no avail; emails unanswered, complaints ignored. They will have charged the owners for the full week plus cancellation fees yet did not compensate me in any way for the extra money paid, the inconvenience, stress and the fact I had to take taxis instead of walking into town. Apparently my contract was with the owners, not with them, yet they refuse to give me the owners contact details. They are contemptible, have no integrity, dishonest, completely bankrupt of principles & have no interest in their customers. The complete opposite of the values they say they adhere to on their website. Needless to say I will never book with them again and I always check who the owners of various brand are to ensure that it is not owned by Sykes.

Refused a refund for a cancellation as unable to travel to the holiday cottage because Covid restrictions prevented travel from England to Wales. This company in their email correspondence denied there were any restrictions in place at the time of our booking. Absolutely awful customer service experience. We would never book another holiday with Sykes.

We have stayed at the same property for a number of years with no complaints. Sykes takes it over and the place is filthy! We have made a complaint and Sykes are not interested. Constantly having to chase them for a response, but they are not interested or giving us a satisfactory answer. Will never use them again!

Refused to refund despite cancellation made due to inadequate information on their site, and cancellation request made within 3 days of booking. Completely uninterested customer service- these guys are absolute crooks.

I’m the grip of a local and national lack of access to petrol, Sykes were happy just to not work hard to negotiate a resolution to reshuffle our holiday dates! We weren’t asking for a refund, just for the hosts of Daisy Cottage, Catterlen, Penrith to be reasonable, but not so. Enjoy your commission from our untaken holiday that we saved hard to pay for all year!
