I have been on holiday with Sykes quite a few times with no problem. Early this year booked but had to cancel and the insurance I took out didn't cover it. Rather than lose the money I booked for October and had to pay extra. They added same insurance which didn't cover my husband it took me ages to get that cancelled. My husband has just died so I rang to cancel they have 4months to let the cottage again. There answer no money back but I could go later. I don't think that's going to happen now I'm on my own. No sympathy or compassion at all.

Why as my review been refused, I will go through small claim courts ,as got nowhere with sykes even though photos sent to back complaint up

given 1star because i had to to be able to write a review,in actual fact it should be no stars like their customer service,its none existant,when you book its all nicey nicey they take your money,and thats it,no way of getting intouch,live chat is useless as they dont reply,no point phoneing as you get so far then get cut off without getting chance to speak to someone,avoid this company.

The whole experience was a nightmare. 2 electrical appliances didn’t work, Sykes sent only a maintenance person twice who could do nothing to fix it/ the owner didn’t want to spend money on plumber to fix the dishwasher which later became a fire risk (smoking and fumes), clearly Sykes value £££ more than clients safety. The area WiFi went down and needed 3 further visitors. Communication from Sykes appalling, denied any accountability and gaslit me to death. They have refused any compensation despite my whole trip being ruined so I have no alternative but to take legal action. I would not recommend Sykes to anyone. They do not follow the law and only care about money. I have photos and video evidence but it won’t let me upload them.

We booked Inveray in Seahouses because Sykes description says it is a Detached House. We arrived at 4pm on 7 June only to find it is an END TERRACE. Contacted Sykes about this who then asked for a photo showing it was in fact a terraced house. After sending the photo I heard NOTHING. I messaged them asking for their response, tumble weed, nothing. Their Customer Service is appalling. But they are still advertising the property as detached‼️ Beware when booking with other companies, as Sykes have taken over more than 20 companies that still operate under their previous names, but belong to Sykes. I will NEVER use Sykes or any of their associates again.

I would not use this company ever again. They don’t care. Very poor customer service. The only way I could get through to discuss problems with a property I had rented, was to chose the option, for renting out my property with Sykes. If you want to talk to someone on the phone chose the ‘I want to rent out my property’ option. I was promised a call back but it never happened.

The Boat house had detereated since last year. We had booked for next year but cancelled because of the state of place. We cancelled 13 months before holiday and lost our deposit because Sykes are now classed as agents so have no deposit return. We paid £283 and got £52 back from the owner. Sykes kept the rest. Thieves.

Awful customer service. Aksed to change cottage for same time just with 2 and not 1 bathrooms cottage due to health issues and was told no CANCEL with loss of full deposit. This being 1/3 rd of the full cost. The fact my choice of cottage was more expensive but we needed an additional bathroom. Sykes gave such bad service and did not give a dam about the reason behind the request to change cottages.

Strange how there are so many negative reviews, although I appreciate that some people must have had some adverse experiences. But why are people complaining about being unable to contact Sykes Cottages when the owners' phone number is readily available. I had cancellation issues regarding covid which were dealt with without any issues. Have used Sykes accommodation for years in many locations and have had cleaning issues on only the one occasion which is not the fault of Sykes.

Booked for 7th June to 14th June 2024 for 7 days. Arrived at 4.00pm expecting to meet Sian as per e mail they never arrived so managed to get in using key box. Inside it was fine apart from a strong damp smell which we tried to overcome by getting a plug in from the co op. Then at around 8.00pm the pub next door started playing music which meant you could not hear the TV and you were not going to sleep until it was finished. Not knowing if this would go on every night we packed up and went home. Contacted Sykes this morning and told them about the damp and asked why we were not told about possible noise from the pub and we have received a response saying no compensation would be offered. I have also realised that I have left my coat there and have requested it be sent to me at my expense but so far no reply. We do feel that we could have been warned about the music before booking. The fact you have to give a star to complete review is in itself a bit ridiculous - the current 'offer' of secure your holiday for £25 is totally misleading and if you try to slightly change anything datewise no of pax etc you are then charged a huge amount which cant be transfered - they do this to obtain your bank details which enables them to then access the funds - be very careful before taking up this 'offer' and dont even try to speak to anyone - customer service is a farce

I want to cancel my holiday in Northumberland. I live in Somerset, a minimum 6 hour drive away. I am waiting for a knee replacement and won't be able to drive all that way. I booked last year. I have stayed in the cottage twice before when it was managed by Northumberland Coast and Cottages who were excellent. They were taken over by Sykes. The cottage owner is lovely. I want to cancel as soon as possible so the lovely owner can re let. Can't get through to them on the phone. Their answerphone message said their phone system is down and to message. I messaged, got one response and then nothing! No confirmation of cancellation. Nothing! Non existent customer service!

Important information hidden in fine prints and ads are misleading. Customer support is horrible and don’t even consider change due to emergency situations. Never ever to use again.

We have just returned from a week ar Ardeevin cottage in Buxton. The cottage was really nice and in a perfect situation near shops and good pubs for meals. We want to bring to your attention that in the cottage the lock on the bathroom door does not work and indeed the door does not even stay closed! The provision of a door stop inside the bathroom is not satisfactory. This became very embarrassing at times. Also the corner sofa is far too low and wide to be used by anyone other than very young agile people. The patio area too could have been made so much nicer even though it was tiny. Apart from these matters the cottage was really nice and comfortable.

Total rip off company, my wife died and I lost my deposit, Skye’s cottages asked for death certificates, Marriage certificate and will, guess what they lost the lot, and kept emailing my late wife to provide them all again, unbelievable.

Arrived at apartment after 5 hour drive the property was very dirty and smelled. The problem is as everyone else is reporting the dreadful ‘service’ from Sykes. Hard to get through to them. Hiding behind terms and conditions. Failing to provide proper customer support. They said they would contact owner as our contract is with them, but owners out of country so can’t help. We didn’t stay and will now start process to recover £700 cost from property owner. Sykes need to be referred to media and all correspondents on this site should write to newspapers and TV Rip Off Britain

Booked a holiday with Sykes a few weeks ago and now have a slight change in circumstances. Want to query with the owner this is ok but totally unable to contact Sykes by phone. I've tried messaging on WhatsApp, ringing a load of different telephone numbers and amending thru the website. All to no avail at all. I have used Sykes so many times but never, ever agin. Absolutely dreadful customer service.

Lost cost deposit and cancellation what a joke, I booked a holiday had to cancel a few days after booking more than 15 weeks until holiday doesn't explain anywhere that if you have to cancel you will be charged a substantial amount of money, what sort of company charges over & £200 on a holiday that's £500, also tried to call, email and via chat with no response what a joke.

This is the worst most dishonest company I have ever come across in that they pretend to have a way to contact them but they don't. The phone numbers simply refer you to their website which only allows for options which in one way or another means you have to pay up. They do not have a customer service at all. They are not Regulated by either the ABTA or ATOL. I will be reporting them to the Ombudsman as they are obliged to have a complaints system which they don't so you can't even make a complaint to them. The single star is because you have to give them a star to leave a review. Says it all.
