Appalling customer service. Despite the coronavirus pandemic they refused any type of refund, not a penny was offered. Instead they asked us to advise of a possible future travel date so they could check availability. As if I could predict the scope and duration of the pandemic! They would not offer partial refund or voucher to be applied to future travel and just stopped responding to messages - all of which were polite and understanding of their loss of income. I was forced to go to Airbnb direct to claim the refund but a fortnight of messages and stress caused by Sykes Cottages got me exactly nowhere. Steer well clear of this company.

I and my husband are due to go to Somerset on June 5th,one day outside the window.I wish to now take stock,re evaluate and cancel. But the snotty email that you sent tells me that I can cancel or amend through the usual channels. Not good enough. With the current travel restrictions in place, that look set to be extended, what are you planning to do about it?It's shambolic,I will NEVER book through you again.

Had a holiday booked for 1/5 which was obviously cancelled by Sykes due to coronavirus outbreak. In law the contract should be void and a refund should be forthcoming either from the cottage owned or Sykes acting as the owners agent. Have tried but am unable to contact Sykes who nevertheless continue to trade no doubt encouraged by the relaxation of the wrongful trading provision. Hopefully a class action will be commenced against Sykes if no refunds are forthcoming.

This is a company that is profiteering from the current circumstances. Discounted properties are on offer - from those that have cancelled = double profit. I find it exceedingly suspicious that there are a number of people currently providing positive reviews for Sykes Cottages when the country is in lockdown - fake reviews? If you read the numerous online reviews (including on social media), you will see that numerous customers have been refused refunds, including NHS staff and others serving our nation. Owners have returned money to Sykes to refund to customers, only to discover that Sykes have not passed the money onto customers. Booking.com is associated with this company and are unable to provide any resolution. They provide a high rating for these properties - again, where do these reviews come from? On Sykes website, there are only positive reviews... again, selective reporting? I personally, along with numerous others will not be using this company/ Booking.com again and encourage others to do the same.

Had a family holiday booked for early May, needed to cancel because of government advice on coronavirus (party included over 70's, a teenager with asthma, another with a weakened immune system). Tried numerous times on the phone to contact customer services, without success, sent an email (no reply) all before the final balance was due. Got to the day before the final balance was going to be taken automatically, still unable to contact so had no choice but to cancel online (rather than pay full amount) cancellation fee (full deposit) was automatically taken from card. There was an option to amend dates in the future but who knows what the future holds, any chosen cottages may be taken off the market & it wouldn't surprise me if Sykes didn't go into administration and do a runner sometime soon. Have since had an email inviting me to spread the cost of the already cancelled holiday!!!! Tried to contact them again - they seem to have removed all contact phone nos & methods of emailing. Totally agree with recent reviews, they are robbing .........., not concerned with anything other than taking your money. Can't believe that cottage / holiday home owners still want to deal with this company, you'll all get dragged down with Sykes if they continue to serve customers this way. DO NOT USE THEM.

Sykes are using the pandemic for their own gains. I was unable to cancel the bookings even though they cancelled it and not me, and moving the booking to any date (even in the middle of term time in winter) was over £100 more expensive.. to move the booking to summer would have cost £300 more! DO NOT USE SYKES!!

An awful Company, who doesn't care about the current unprecedented crisis. After paying a low deposit of £20.00. We only have two choices. 1. Cancel our booking but an automatic payment of £960.00 will come out. 2. Risk continuing paying £2,800.00 with a risk of losing that if the climate does not improve by August. We find this completely unacceptable, Sykes website at time of booking were very misleading about the £20.00 deposit. We only knew when we received the receipt after booking and that was in small print. If we had known this & we could face £900.00 Cancellation fees we wouldn't of bothered ordering. It seems both Guests and Owners are being affected. It's unfair on both! Owners want to refund but Sykes will not allow. Also Owners get massive fines if they wish to remove their accommodation from the Sykes website. I'm sure this is fraud! And I hope Sykes will get investigated.

Even though I took insurance out when I booked in September 19 it doesn’t look like I’ll get a refund for my sister’s hen do. My sister is a frontline NHS worker currently working on a covid ward. I am 31wks pregnant so classed as vulnerable. But as far as I can understand if you don’t have coronavirus or covid symptoms you can’t get a refund. I can’t reschedule because I’m having a baby and also it’s impossible to know how long my sister amongst others who were attending the hen do are going to be needed on the frontline.

Awful, immoral customer service. No refunds offered for holidays cancelled by THEM.  Little respect or thought for key workers or those classed as vunerable in a time when they should be priority. They turned their phone lines off and wouldn't reply to emails. We have been forced into pushing the cancel button to stop them taking the full amount of our holiday after THEY cancelled and told us we couldn't go! Do not use and be aware they trade under several different names too!

Tried to find out if I book for later in the year a refund will be made if we remain under lockdown. No success. DO NOT BOOK WITH SYKES unless you are sure we will not be under travel restrictions. They will not refund your money. COVID19 insurance is not available. Book direct with owners.

AVOID AVOID AVOID Sykes Cottages management are a bunch of unscrupulous, greedy bastards. AVOID any dealings with them unless as a customer you’re trying to recover money paid for bookings they have cancelled, stop them helping themselves to balances of deposits in future (simply cancel the cards you used) or join in the growing band of people denouncing them as widely as possible for profiteering from the Coronavirus tragedy. Their offer to credit amounts already paid against future bookings is scandalous when you find out it is for up to two years - the chances are they will no longer exist, the holiday property owners may no longer be in business and they refuse to refund any difference if the cost of the future booking is less than the amount already paid. Take the risk by all means but I suspect all you will be doing is putting good money after bad.

Sykes Cottages has mopped up a large number of independent cottage companies over the last few years, so check your contract (which Sykes will say is with the owner of the holiday cottage, even though you will not know who the owner is and have paid nothing to them - questionable legality of passing the buck!). Sykes is a money grabbing giant with no thought for real people. All it is concerned about is its share of rentals. If your cottage has been cancelled due to Coronavirus, your contract has been frustrated, which means you are entitled to your money back. My advice is to (a) ask Sykes for the full name and address of the cottage owner (b) submit a money claim against BOTH the owner and Sykes for the whole cost of the holiday. Do not settle for less than a refund and do not give up. https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome

Without doubt the worst sort of company, taking money hand over fist from people who have no choice but to cancel due to government rules. They may be making money right now but when things return to normal customers new and old will remember what sort of outfit they are. They deserve, and I hope will go to the wall. They’re low deposit offered at the beginning of the year is there get out to charge large deposits for property that you can not avail yourself of. Do not presume they won’t hold you to the small print even in these unprecedented times. A shameful bunch of thieves.

If you booked with the £20 deposit and your balance is due. get in touch with your bank and tell them to block the payment. Sykes want us to change our dates (the owner has taken the property off the market completely, so no dates available) and they want to charge us £200 because they say we have cancelled. We have not cancelled, neither will I pay for a holiday that is not available through no fault of my own. I consider this comes under the heading of 'frustrated contract' and they are a disgrace. They should refund my deposit to show good faith as the holiday I purchased is not available. Hold on to your money if you can.

Atrocious customer service from this company who I believe own Hideways Cottages. I advise no one to make a booking with either of them. They provide NO personal service, all communication regarding my problem has been made via a standard email and pre rehearsed answers over the phone, when you Vcp an get hold of them. Not one word of apology or sympathy for the predicament, just a standard phone your insurance company. Times are tough and difficult for small businesses at the moment. Those going out of their way to offer a solution with a degree of real care will survive. Others , like this one, deserve to go out of business as we move through this awful time. Shame on you Hideaways.

What a disgraceful company this is I have used them for about 4 years now without any problems but now due to the obvious circumstances they are refusing refunds and not only that they are hiking up the price of the same holiday that they are forcing you to amend, I and I hope many many more people like myself will never go near this vile company ever again.

Booked a cottage in North Wales for 3 days in May, there are 9 family members walking Snowdon for charity, obviously due to the government guidelines we will not be going, I have tried on a couple of occasions to contact Sykes with no response! Their stance of no refund is beyond acceptable, however we will be eventually doing our charity walk but at this time we have no idea of a date to which it would be possible, although we can change the date, again we do not have a date to work with, I have put this to Sykes but nothing has come back! In the situation we all find ourselves in you would think that companies would support their customers, most have and continue to do so, Sykes appear to be a law unto themselves & hopefully customers will remember this when booking in the future - I certainly will - NEVER AGAIN!!!
