Never ever book any property through Sykes or that is managEd by them including any company that is part of Sykes. Look very carefully at the small print towards the bottom of the front page on web sites and then phone and ask the company a direct question. Are you part of Sykes? If the answer is yes, don’t go any further despite any assurances that the booking will be governed by the company’s own T&Cs. There are also lists available if all companies under the Sykes umbrella. Their descriptions are misleading, they have a tenuous grip on the truth, they use salad words to bat away any criticism, are impossible to contact unless you wish to make a booking and can’t give a toss about customers or cottage owners. Avoid at all costs.

Appalling customer service, Customer Support and Customer Relations a complete waste of time. As other people have said they are over priced but under deliver on customer service. When the staycations are over they will wish they had loyal customers like us, what goes around comes around. DO NOT USE

One star is still to high, we lasted one night in our property in Redruth, property had damp throughout, furniture falling to bits, ant infestation, unfit access road to the property. We contacted Sykes straight away and was told to wait for a call back which we did, call back came from Sykes after 2 hours, the owner was not returning their calls!!!! Fast forward - we are now 8 days after leaving property, numerous emails and phone calls made to Sykes, owner has still not made contact, we drove over 400 miles each way to this property which is ridiculous in a weekend! I have evidence of the state of the property and will be looking to take this further until I get a refund. Never again!!!!!

Terrible customer service. I was very unhappy with my so called cottage. It was a converted garage. Supposed to fit 4 adults. It didn’t. We came home early. Couldn’t stand it any longer. Sykes said we couldn’t have a refund of the days. They said they owner of the property had advised Sykes that the property did fit 4 adults comfortably and so wasn’t prepared to refund us. Sykes don’t care about the quality of the property’s on their site as long as they get the money. Don’t ever book with them. You will regret it. We did.

worst customer service, had to cancel holiday because husband very ill with covid, Sykes cottages or owner not interested, no refund, within 1 hour of cancelling cottage was rebooked, so owner and Sykes cashed in on my husband having covid. Appalling.

Ex Sykes Owner (thankfully). When we purchased our cottage it was already a holiday let and had been for years, through Sykes, so we were unfortunate enough to take on an existing contract, not knowing what they were like. I’d already done a changeover for the cottage, whilst the sale was going through and was shocked and appalled at the state of the place. I came out after and said to my husband that if we’d booked it for a holiday I’d have walked straight back out and insisted they found us somewhere else. I was shocked - having had cottage holidays for 20 years with other companies, I couldn’t believe how they could get away with it. When the Sykes ‘rep’ came out to get us to sign the contract after the sale had completed, even she was mortified. She said if Sykes had ever bothered to come out and check it, they’d have taken it off the books. ** Note: Sykes DO NOT inspect cottages once they’ve got owners to sign up! ** We gutted the place, and 6 weeks later the same rep came back and couldn’t believe it was the same property. Fast forward to March 2020 and the pandemic… we were shocked and appalled by how they were treating both guests and owners, lying to both, pitting one against the other. We gave notice and are now thankfully, finally shot of them, and ‘going it alone’. They are absolutely horrendous to deal with - they don’t care a jot about guests or owners, just so long as they get their booking fees and commission. Shocking customer service, unethical and completely without morals. Steer clear.

It is no surprise their score is so low I would leave no stars if I could. We stayed at 107 Pentney Lake Lodges for a week paying £1100 for a week in what is essentially a static caravan with decking around it. The unique selling point as a hot tub which we were looking forward to. It didn't work 4 days out of 7 with the owners coming to reset it whereby it would work for a while before going faulty again, the people who stayed before and after have also had issues. When contacting Sykes they washed their hands of it and said it was between us and the owners, subsequent correspondence was ignored despite us having text message offers of compensation from the owner. Their lack of integrity is astounding. I hope once the Staycation boom is over that this type of customer disdain results in this type of shambolic company going out of business in favour of someone who doesn't just take their booking fee and run. Worst customer service I have ever had.

Cancelled holiday with 3 days notice. Tried to blame owner turns out them. Just don't care. Had behind terms and conditions that leaves them untouchable. Beware owners and customers. Avoid. CEO Grant no doubt cashing in on Covid.

Possible inaccurate description of holiday cottage - listing said one thing - customer reviews another - when contacting them for verification all they can do is try to contact the owner. The owner never picks up the phone, so they leave the description as is on the website without checking it and I end up with a holiday that's not suitable. Customer service is appalling - you can't get through to the right person and leave one queue to join another - and when you do speak to someone they can't help. Never again.

Won’t be using again Won’t be using again, went to cancel holiday right after booking as realised dates were no good. Said they were allowed to offer other holidays which were not good for us still… couldn’t even go back with the original booking because that had already been snapped up after I cancelled. Tried to retrieve money back and they wouldn’t allow the bank. £281 down the drain.

No refund even if you pay for insurance. They say you can cancel weeks in advance but no refund. Customer service try to get you to say thing to invalidate the insurance. Only refund given if you get covid and can prove it. That is if you buy insurance. Small print 7 pages mostly explaining what is excluded from the insurance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXpbdTdgGYc

Was about to book our usual two weeks in Cornwall for 2023. If I book for 7 days the booking fee is £59 but if I book for 14 days I'm charged £104 booking fee. Why is that? I HAVE TO PRINT OUT ALL THE PAPERWORK!! What am I paying extra for when it's one booking? If I'd been able to pay £59 for 14 days I would have booked but although I've used Sykes before never again, I'm not being mugged by Sykes as we're now booking cottages with other rental companies and only paying one booking fee. GOODBYE SYKES. Pity, we've booked 5 cottages for staycations in 2021, but not with you!

Terrible company. Definitely wouldn't book with them again. Terrible customer service. Wouldn't listen to my genuine complaints. Said I had to take it up with the owner, even though I booked through Sykes. They just hid behind their terms and conditions.

I'll never book with them again. Have had to cancel two holidays booked prior to the pandemic because my wife is in the shielding category despite vaccinations. They took both deposits despite giving them plenty of time to rebook the weeks. Completely unsympathetic - be warned.

A word of warning - Sykes will not honour any cashback claims from bookings made via Quidco. They will deny that they were made using this method. This is very regrettable as I thought they were a reputable company, however my dealings with them recently have cast doubts on their integrity and practices.

Wish I'd seen these reviews before booking. So disappointed by misleading and inaccurate description of property, they had been informed by owners of change in facilities but failed to pass on this information so we found out when we arrived that the property did not meet our requirements. Very poor customer service, will never book with this company again. Never had to register a complaint before, so frustrating and disappointing.

Terrible customer service. I left a shoe behind and when I spoke to customer service they were incredibly unhelpful. Apparently they could only talk to our friend who made the booking about it. What a ridiculous policy that completely defies logic. The house was big and spacious but the garden hadn't been tended for a while (although according to the book, it had supposed to be days before). Felt stuffy when we arrived. Due to covid, there were NO products in the kitchen at all. They did give us two bin bags which were about a third of the size of the bin, there were no recycling facilities. It felt very money grabbing and utterly no care or thought. Hospitality is supposed to be a kind, welcoming industry and this wasn't at all. It was all rules rules rules, and plenty of patronising advice about what to bring on holiday. Poor and disappointing
