I have just seen this on MSE News. I was due to go to Devon 22/06. I felt I had no choice to rebook next year or lose all my money. I have log into my account. But when I click on cancel it says I will lose all my money probably because its a new booking!!! The article say's Sykes will contact us. We will see!!! I have sent an email. Part of MSE message below Sykes Cottages reverses coronavirus refund policy after watchdog investigation. Who is eligible for a full refund from Sykes Cottages? Sykes Cottages has committed to offering a full cash refund to customers whose bookings were due to start during the initial lockdown period, when Government restrictions would have stopped the holiday from going ahead. How can I get a refund for a Sykes Cottages booking? If you think you're eligible for a cash refund, you can log in to your Sykes Cottages account to request one. Sykes has also committed to contacting all affected customers by 31 July 2020 to offer them a refund directly (though if you'd already been offered the option of a refund, it won't need to contact you again). You should either get an email or a phone call, though it may also write to you if it can't contact you by email or phone. If you choose to get a refund, you'll be offered the choice between a full cash refund (including commission and fees) OR a cash refund of the cost of your holiday excluding commission and fees plus a credit to the value of these costs uplifted by 10%, which can be used to book a future Sykes holiday within 24 months of receiving the credit. Once you've requested or accepted a cash refund, this should be paid to your original payment method within 30 days. This applies to bookings starting from 23 March 2020, to Friday 3 July if the customer and/or accommodation is based in England, Sunday 12 July for Wales, Thursday 2 July for Scotland or Friday 26 June for Northern Ireland.

word of warning...I actually booked through booking.com but unbeknown to me they(Sykes) were somehow connected with this booking ? so took over much to my confusion ? we also had to cancel our holiday due to covid and decided to just change our dates instead, we were steered to the Sykes website to do this, the week we chose was alot cheaper, £311 cheaper had many promises of a credit "they won't refund," after umpteen e mails I've lost count, we are still out of pocket, I'm actually dubious about our rebook tbh, alarm bells are ringing, I'll do my homework in future steer clear.

After an initial prolonged waiting time on the phone, the service received from customer relations member Carl was excellent. I made a mistake on booking, he sorted it and called back as promised the next day. Many thanks.

The feedback I am reading is truly heartbreaking during these already tough times. I am a cottage owner and I have tried to get them to take my cottage off their website for months I don't want anything to do with them They ignore everything I email to them too. They want cottage owners to use the 'owner portal' so you automatically agree to their illegal terms. I really don't know how they are allowed to continue to trade They have been brought up as fraudsters on radio 4 and bbc and watchdog and trading standards are looking into them If as a guest you can find out which merchant provider they have used to take your money ie who they use to take card payments then let them know they are trading illegally No credit card Company should be taking card payments on their behalf The merchant provider are jointly and severally liable under the CCA 75 agreement act Please everyone make a complaint on the website.. Action Fraud... against Sykes and the card provider You will get a crime number Also list your complaint on Martin Lewis website 'Resolver' for Sykes and their merchant provider too Share who this merchant provider is so we all can complain..By the merchant provider allowing them to take payments they are facilitating further fraud, illegal trading and misery The more of us speak up the sooner they must be closed down..!They are in no doubt trading illegally and fraudulently both on behalf of guests and cottage owners..

Trying for about a month to change a holiday date, both by email and phone, but seems pointless to continue as no response to either. Will be forced to cancel prior to paying the balance and ‘voluntarily’ lose the deposit money... The change booking option that features in their recommendation of how to change a booking on-line doesn’t work. Realise they are busy but surely one of my emails must have been read after this length of time.

They are a shocking company. Fail to answer thier phones take your deposit even when the Covid epidemic is in full flow. They don’t even respond to e-mails. Stay well clear they have no interest in customer satisfaction just putting a few ponds in thier pocket

I have been trying for months to get through to Sykes Cottages. My holiday was cancelled due to Covid19 in March. I could not get a reply from them at the time and rather than loose all my money, I moved it to the first available date in September. They are due to take an additional payment from me this week for the different in price between March and September. I do not want this to happen and want a full refund. I cannot get an answer from them and will be taking this to the small claims court.

Sykes contacted me today to say that my holiday cottage I have booked and paid for has been cancelled with one weeks notice before my holiday. I now have no money to book another one as they have not yet refunded the money and I have also paid for my train ticket so am out of pocket with this as well. Avoid this company.

Awful company to deal with. Lots of problems with emails not being answered when trying to sort out a refund following cancellation due to covid 19 restrictions.

I booked and paid you for my holiday via the booking.com system, before covid caused you to cancel it. Booking.com sent me confirmation that it's been cancelled and informed me that I would get a full refund. As the payment went directly to you through their system, they say that the refund will come from you. You've tried to pass it back to booking.com but they say you are responsible for the refund, since you were paid directly, by me. I've sent you emails to recover my money but you ignore them. You've basically stolen my money. The only course left to me is to take you to court to recover the funds, plus expenses incurred as a result of court proceedings. I refuse to remain quiet when I'm being scammed out of money.

If I could give zero stars for this company I would. Booked a holiday cottage, final payment was taken, the next day for an email off sykes cottages saying to contact the owner to arrange key collect for when we go, so I contacted the owner of the cottage to find out that they are not renting out the cottage this year that I must contact sykes cottage. 1hr 30minutes later I final get off hold to be told they know nothing of this and if it is the case we will be refunded in 3-5 days.. fast forward two weeks we are still waiting on a refund and any communications from sykes, emails ignored and hrs waiting to be answered on phone. Will never use this company again.

Unable to contact them by phone and they don't reply to emails today is Thursday I am due to arrive at my holiday accommodation on Monday I have not recieved any information on how to obtain my keys to get in. They should rename their business as Take Your Money and Scarper

Had a cottage booked for August, and wanted to change the date. Tried to ring, automated amend service either cut me off or put me back to the beginning. Went to online account, the amend option not working. Had to cancel asbalance was due and did not want to pay it. Tried to email to sort either alternative date or balance refund as I had been willing to go, just needed to change date, and would have paid admin fees. Absolutely corrupt company - avoid!!
