I live in germany and have been trying to contact sykes for the past couple of months, no reply only automatic reply they never answered call or emails even sent my Mobil number and nothing now the cancelled the booking and say I have to pay 585 pounds Deposit. I sad I'm not coming to the UK to spend 14 days in quartine. Skyes said in a email there are no travel restrictions in the UK I have to pay or they will take legal action.

I paid in full for a holiday due to happen in May which obviously had to be cancelled. I contacted Sykes to ask about a refund but was told I couldn't have one without losing my £1,700, but could rebook for another date. They presurised me to take one in October, which I agreed to rather than lose my money, but in retrospect I don't want a holiday in October. I rang them repeatedly without getting through, then emailed and eventually was told they wouldn't agree to that. Needless to say I'll never be using them again.

Won’t bore everyone by repeating an experience that mirrors every other person who has written a review. Sykes are quite simply the worst company. I have ever had to deal with. Ignore emails, not updating their website (last done on May 29th) no response to phone calls and blaming everyone but their own shameful service. Suspect they will be investigated by CMA very soon and face punishing fine.

No customer service, no holiday, demand for payment, threat of legal action and all during lockdown when they knew full well it was illegal to travel to and stay in the property we booked. Scandalous behaviour

Sykes have gone quiet on their harassing bullying emails which suggests they know the end is nigh. If you have an upcoming booking cancel your card, else your money is gone for good.

Syke Cottages are a disgusting greedy ignorant company. Who should have their licence to trade taken away. They cancelled our holiday cottage and refunded £54 which they took back from the owner but will not pay a penny of theirs back. I have e.mailed many many times. They won't answer their phone. They are ignorant and they are Liars. The cottage we rent each year is not going to be on their books any longer so we can't transfer our holiday. It is a holiday for our foster daughter who has special needs, they do not have another suitable property for various reasons so we cannot re-book with them, I've explained this to them and they are too ignorant to even acknowledge this. The owner of the cottage has removed her accomodation from Sykes because of the way they have treated her aswell. We had a 3 week holiday in Greece booked with on the Beach and when that was cancelled I didn't even have to contact them....my money was back in my account (just waiting for the airline part) before I was even due to go. I forwarded their e.mail onto Sykes as an example of how decent, honest and respectable Companys treat their Clients.....with honesty and respect. They are no less than thieves....they are selling something....not providing it..... but keeping the money anyway. I have now put it in the hands of my Credit Card Company to recover it. They are also Blackmailers....as they have said if we take any sort of legal action to recover the money then our credit note will no longer be valid !!!! The lowest of the low....absolute Scum.

Booked with Sykes for an April holiday. The cottage owner authorised a refund. Sykes kept £109 pounds put in on my account as a credit. I rebooked the property for October and the credit was not taken from the fee. I am still showing that my account is in credit, Have spoken to customer services three times and been given different time scales as to when I will be refunded. Once I get my money back ( via court if necessary ) I will never deal with them again.

We booked a cottage in the Sottish Highlands for 1 week at a price of £650. The booking was for our Honeymoon. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions our wedding was cancelled. Please understand that I do realise that this Pandemic is not Sykes fault, but the way they handled the cancellation was based on pure greed. We asked to postpone the booking until the same week in 2021, as we had seen that Sykes were making it virtually impossible for customers to have a refund. The cost to transfer the booking to 2021 was nearly £100 extra......pure greed by Sykes and the property owners trying to rake back lost revenue. We decided to cancel and Sykes charged us £250 to do so.... In comparison, we had another cottage booked with a private owner for the week before, again in the Scottish Highlands, the owner had our deposit in our account within half an hour, with a most sincere apology for our situation. We've sent the cottage owner a bottle of malt for his total understanding. Sykes should take note of what real customer service is all about. I know who I'll be booking with in the future and it wont be greedy money grabbing Sykes. 1 star is flattering.

Will not answer emails with regards to money being paid back on holiday that we can no longer go on, yet can send me a email after email about where I could book next with them. Stay away from them they are a company that does not care about its customers.

After removing a significant part of our accommodation purposely just before the full payment came out, they refuse to answer to reason or communicate regarding our complaint but still take all the money. We feel absolutely screwed over. We’ve just had a generic response blaming corona when there’s no conceivable reason why. They only care about one thing, and it’s not your holiday. Check this out from their T&Cs! 18.2 To the fullest extent permissible under applicable law, we disclaim any and all promises, warranties, conditions, or representations relating to the Booking Service, whether express, implied, oral or written. Very slippery company with zero accountability for their service. We strongly advise you AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Appalling unhelpful liars. Obstructive. Made a bad situation much worse and infinitely more stressful. Instead of trying to help their customer they were difficult and uncaring. I had to find the cottage owner to get a resolution and even then they refused to take instructions from the owner. After many years of booking with Sykes this will be the last. A customer lost!

I actually let my house out to Sykes cottages, so from an owner point of view as apposed to a customer booking a holiday! I equally have find them impossible to work with and their T&Cs very misleading and complex with no support, guidance or helpfulness one bit, despite being told before I signed the contract that I would have a team working with me to guarantee maximum income for our property!! This wasn’t the case, they take huge commission and don’t allow you to advertise your property on any other sites eg Airbnb even though Sykes hadn’t given us any bookings and certainly no where near the amount promised!! I have mortgage to pay, bills, rates etc everything and no money from Sykes and they tie you in to the contract not allowing you to leave unless you get them six months notice! To which I did in October, despite this they still tried to wriggle out of processing our withdrawal from Sykes. Arguing and arguing, I had to threaten them with legal advice and sent them emails stating that I had ask to be removed from their site in October so eventually I got them to remove our property, to say I’m relieved is an understatement I’ve been waiting for over 6 mths for this day!! Never ever sign your property with this company they’re crooks and treat your own property like they own it, they dictate prices and tie you into one company...... themselves!! Break promises and deliver nothing, they’re awkward to work with, they don’t support you or encourage you as a new owner! Stay well clear........ Airbnb or Booking.com seem the best and most flexible company and you as a owner are in control of your own business! Re covid 19.......Sykes sent me emails asking us as a property owner to allow guests to cancel without any charges etc etc and of course we agreed under the circumstances it’s only fair, I cannot understand why they’re trying to hoodwink customers out of money, this is certainly not us as owners doing they’re taking this upon themselves to claw in money!! Diabolical!! Stay clear!!!

Booked cottage with Sykes last year. Informed in May that Sykes was allowing me to reschedule property hire as C-19 Government restrictions were not allowing us to go from the 3rd July. Sykes tried to take the final payment even though they knew we could not stay in the accommodation. Luckily we opted for the limited deposit and cancelled the payment card but they are still pursuing us for £300.00 deposit. We have taken legal advice and believe the contract is frustrated and therefore we will resist payment. My advice to anyone booking with Sykes in the future...be aware their Ts & Cs are horrendous and you could be left high and dry.

Holiday frustrated by COVID, yet Sykes refuse to refund money due back to me. It’s my money! Their customer service is shocking, I have never seen a company act so dishonestly. Avoid at all costs.

Terrible company Did get one call from them to say I needed to pay the balance, they took it from my bank account!!!!! and the very next day sent an email saying my holiday couldn’t go ahead. I cannot have a refund but a credit but they have all of my money won’t refund me neither will their insurance company. Now going down the legal route. Holiday was for June. A word of advice don’t use them even their cottage owners are leaving them. Trustpilot of which they have a vested interest in are putting fake reviews (probably their own staff) to try and stop the ratings going down. STAY WELL AWAY
