I am not a member. On 12.06.2022 my car got broken and I had to call RAC recovery car. I paid by card during the conversation and I didn't received any bill/breakdown raport. Since 16th of June I have been sending emails with requests but without response. Since 12th of July I started calling. I was promised twice that in next 10-15 minutes I will receive what I am begging for but, again, I have nothing. Yesterday, 15th of August I had another conversation with customer service and with tons of "sorry's" I've been promised again that my problem WILL be sorted ASAP. Nothing happened again. I have big one question. Is sending breakdown report to much to do for RAC customer service or customer service completely don't care about customers?

Atrocious! 23 long hours waiting for recovery with my 4 year old twins in the vehicle. Taxi’s dispatched from closed depo’s! Allocated recovery vehicles diverted, stood down and cancelled off my job! Assigned drivers then needing 2 hour Taco breaks! Absolutely no explanation. No offer of compensation. A half hearted apology from a nicely air conditioned office where the operator was sat safely and away from danger! My car broke down at 3.30pm on Saturday and myself and my children didn’t get back home until 2.30pm on Sunday! Never experienced such a catalogue of errors in all my life! Complete embarrassment and utter disgrace!

RAC you have excelled in absolutely appalling customer care. Your company has completely & utterly continuously let us down. We broke down on Saturday afternoon. Our vehicle was taken and we were left stranded at a service station for 6 hours on one of the hottest days of the year with 3 young children & no belongings. We were told a hire car company would be in touch and we would be able to collect our belongings from our vehicle that was being towed to a Nottingham garage. During that time we had absolutely no communication from the RAC or partner companies. No b&bs or taxis were available to us. Our children who were hot and exhausted slept on benches and our youngest was wet and had no change of clothes. Luckily we managed to get ourselves to Liverpool. We were left a further 13 hours without any onward travel arrangements, even though I pay a premium for the service. We finally got home 23 hours later! I've spent almost a total of 3 and a half hours on the phone with the RAC. Today I should be celebrating my sons 4th birthday. Instead I'm trying to find out where my vehicle is and why it isn't in Nottingham & how I can get all our personal belongings back to us including passports and medication. I want people to share this so that no other young family has to experience it. I can not believe a company as big as the RAC can treat people like this. I am so upset, disappointed and angry. I've cried and pleaded on the phoned, I've emailed and I've fb messaged. Maybe just maybe someone @RAC will actually do what they say and call me back to help! #racbreakdown #badcustomerservice #letdown #help

Where do I start?..... Complete waste of time and thieves..... I broke down 70 plus miles from home with 2 other passengers one being my autistic son. I couldn't get hold of my local garage for a recovery so was forced to join the RAC. At first it was great as they said that if I joined I would get FULL member benefits straight away. And after I explained my car issues, that the clutch had broke he said to me that they WOULD get me home. At no point did the guy on the phone say that as a new member I would only get a 10 mile tow to a local garage..... And I had paid £165 plus a month membership fee for someone to turn up in extreme heat to tell me oh your car is broke...... seriously!? He then told me that I was not going to get full membership help as I oy just joined up. So I was stuck 70 plus miles from home with now not enough money to pay for another recovery to come get my car. And we had now a choice, eat and drink or try to get a taxi home. The taxi cost £106 and now I have nothing for food etc the following week and no way of now getting to my car and even getting it towed back home cos they won't refund me until I make a complaint. So I cannot work now nor attend hospital appointments cos they have lied to me about the membership and will not refund me. Avoid these like the plague

13 hours to respond to a call out logged at 5pm. Lone female, 70 miles from home.in the middle of nowhere. had to get husband to drive and get me and take me home after waiting until 12.30am, only to have to drive back to vehicle at 6am following call from tow truck driver. Appalling as you can’t easily get through by phone, fobbed off at every point. Avoid at all costs!

Pathetic 6 hours in 40 degree heat waiting, and returned again being told 180 minutes which again turned into another 6 hour wait in 40 degree heat. I will write on every review site about this poor company and will inform everyone I can not to use them. If there is high demand have more engineers!?

Customer Service One of my son's recently changed his car and at the same time I just happened to see a good deal on my RAC account for new members. They were offering £50, £25.00 each in M&S vouchers if you introduce a friend or family member to the RAC. I took up the offer and completed my part of the application. It was then taken over by RAC Customer Service to finalise with my son. A couple of weeks later my son told me that the offer had expired even though they, the RAC had set him up with a Direct Debit of £9.00 a month, over a hundred pounds annually. I contacted the RAC as I was appalled by there refusal to fulfil there Refer-a Friend offer and then go ahead and set him up with membership. It took the RAC 40 working days to reply to my email and tell me that my son's membership did not meet the requirements for the Refer-a-Friend offer, but they were quite happy to set him up with a Direct Debit. After several years with the RAC I will not be renewing my membership with them any more nor will my son, there are several motoring organisations out there who can offer a service in full without having to lie to there customers. "YOU ARE A DISGRACE"

Why can't I give minus stars on this review site for RAC, although I suppose they could get one star for answering the phone - albeit after half an hour waiting. Yesterday at about 16.45 my car broke down with clutch/gearbox issues. I was a woman, on my own stranded at the side of a country road with heavy traffic whizzing passed. At 17.15 I finally got through to RAC breakdown call centre, and was sent a link from which they could find me - I also gave them my exact location. I was told a breakdown assist would be with me within 2 hours. At 18.30 I phoned to get an update and was told there was a delay at the previous breakdown and I wouldn't be attended to until 17.30. At 20.30 I again phoned them and was told that the breakdown man had been to the car - a total lie, as I was still sitting in it, and that he had phoned me, anther lie, and that the case was now closed. they would re-open the case but it would be another 2 hour wait. On asking the call operator what location they had for me, I was told that I was apparently on a street in a small town 3 miles away from my actual location.By 21.15 and with darkness approaching, I was starting to have panic attacks and as I was having to do all the calling, my phone was running low on charge. Finally I was advised a 3rd party breakdown recovery vehicle would attend shortly. I phone this company directly and he couldn't be more helpful, keeping me updated at all tomes and calming my anxieties. Thats how a business should be run. Take note RAC!! Not until 22.30 did RAC contact me, a woman on my own, to see if I was OK and to update me. An absolutely pathetic service

Only just found this review site. We had the unfortunate car brake down last year and waited 17hours for someone to come out and that was only when I lost my temper as we were two pensioners stuck on a hill and waited from 2pm to9am next morning. Cancelled our policy immediately and will never use them again.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING EUROPEAN BREAKDOWN COVER. I know it's an essay! Single lady traveller (66yrs) campervanning in France. On arrival in France heard a noise I thought was coming from rear wheel . Stopped in a Campsite and phoned RAC. 50 * minutes to report problem due to limited English of operator. Informed a breakdown truck would come and take me to a garage. Advised NOT to drive. Breakdown truck arrived 2 hours later, driver turned on my engine, revved it and then showed me a screen shot of garage to go to and then drove off. Phoned back to UK operator as couldn't get through to EU operator. Asked why I was just directed to a garage and told that unlike in UK roadside mechanics in France DON'T operate, rather you are taken to a garage. Then transferred me to French operator who strongly advised me to DEFINATELY NOT drive my van, mentioned this could in someway compromise my cover. Said he would try to get this sorted, I may have to stay in a hotel or 'compound' that night, but couldn't tell me where?? Said I would stay put in Campsite ( I have a wee dog) but emphasised I needed to be out by MIDDAY the following day as Camsite fully booked. Heard NOTHING rest of the day and eventually I phoned them ( yet again) at 11.15 the following morning. Level of frustration high now and not helped that again I had to phone UK as couldnt get through to local team. Had to explain ALL of my situation again and then told to hold, sometime later another voice came on and asked what the problem was!! Had to explain AGAIN and at this point had 20 minutes to get out of Campsite. After negotionaltion with really nice Campsite staff, I could wait til another breakdown truck arrived 1 1/2 couple hours later, although told it would be 45mins. Driver test drove my van for about 3 minutes, returned, looked at my rear tyre and said it was deformed. Showed me a screenshot of local garage who sold tyres. Said it was OK to drive. Now I'm really confused as I had been led to believe the driver was instructed to take me to a garage and that I was not to drive vehicle?? He drove off after I asked him to email that info to RAC. Moved out of site entrance and parked up wondering what to do now. Shortly afterwards got a call from RAC UK operator asking me why I had sent away the driver!! Operator said she would source tyres for me. ( Need 2 replaced in France). She couldnt understand what I was meaning when I tried to give her the tyre size! This had descended into farce. Found another campsite 3 kilometres away and parked up. Easter Friday so nothing going to happen till at least Tuesday. No further communication over the weekend from them until they answered my second email on the Sunday saying there was nothing they could do. Informed them I would now deal with this myself. Lovely Campsite owners sourced me a garage where my tyres were in stock and also arranged for me to see a mechanic beforehand to check the 'drivers' diagnosis was correct. Mechanic doubtful tyre was warped. I got them changed anyway as aware that one of the operators said that if I drove it without it being checked by them then it could compromise my cover. Had both rear tyres changed and when drove out of garage the noise was AS BEFORE , so obviously that was NOT the source of the noise! Long story, but ended up returning all the way back to Scotland to take my van to my own garage who could find no fault and felt it was tyre noise. Needless to say I lodged a complaint which despite numerous corresponance and my having to correct false info given by the EU operators to the UK complaints officer, my complaint has not been upheld. I asked for compensation of the 200 euros spent needlessly replacing tyres on the advise of an unqualified tow truck driver acting ON BEHALF of the RAC. Offerd £30 in recognition of 'confused communication.' The whole episode was a debacle which the RAC are refusing to take responsibilty and accountablilty for. Have been told they will now no longer communicate with me. I've decided not to pursue this as having gone through cancer surgery and treatment in the past year I just don't have the emotional energy to pursue this any longer. So, please take note of my experience and the subsequent response from the RAC when deciding if this organisation can be trusted to do what they say they will do.

On Tuesday 3rd I rented a Transit van from my local rental company which had RAC breakdown coverage. On my return journey the clutch failed and so I stopped at a foul and littered layby on the A505 at 3.15pm. Called the RAC, who the hire company use, and they were truly, truly, dreadful! Firstly I was told that I could only report the assistance call via the internet (I only had a 3G connection so that was optimistic!) and that they would send me a link to do so. No such link arrived and I called the hire guys who reported the breakdown for me. Got a text message saying that there would be a three hour wait but later I realised that was only the delay before they actually even started to try to find a rescue truck… Another hour passed and with the light fading at 7.15pm I was hot, tired, thirsty and hungry it was pretty obvious that it was going to be a horrendously long wait for help. I felt very unsafe at the prospect of spending the night in the layby so I chanced it and coaxed the van back into life and crawled to the outskirts of Luton and reported the change of position via my mates at the hire company. By then the battery on my phone was low but fortunately I received a text message to say I would be rescued between 2am and 3am. However the guys at the hire company gave the RAC such a verbal kicking that they cracked and brought a breakdown truck all the way from central London and that arrived at 12.30am. I had endured a wait of nearly 10 hours! I was home at 2.30am… I am not as young as I was and it has taken me a few days to recover after this ordeal. Join the RAC at our peril!
