Don't even think about renting a car with this company. SCAMMERS. We rented a van from Spain, and when we went to pick it up, they told us that type of van is only for industrial use and gave us a crappy Fiat 500 instead. We tried to get the car we reserved, and they threatened to cancel our booking. On top of that, the rude employee told us to go to Enterprise next door. An absolute disgrace. To top it off, they charged our account £2000 for damage to the car that we didn't cause. Just look on the Internet at the number of complaints they have for the same reason. HORRIBLE, SCAMMERS!!!

DO NOT TRUST OR USE GREEN MOTION! When I went to pick up my car , Hreen Motion did not inform about the London Congestion zones charges! I am a student originally from Greece who stays for studies in Nottingham . I wasn’t aware of that and they were obligatory inform me , but the didn’t! After more than a month of returning the car, I receive an email stating that there was a PCN because of these congestion charges , that they dis not inform me for, that tgey paid without letting me know before , maybe I wanted to pay and not have the admin charge but they didn’t give me that option!!!!!! And in the email they stated that if I don’t pay the money will be taken from the card I used as deposit!!!! This is illegal!! I never agreed to them keeping my card details!!!!! They never gave me anything to sign that I approve that and their employee in the front desk, Jay, for sure didn’t mention that cause I asked if it just for the deposit and said YES!!! Before I even finish reading the email , I checked my bank account and saw that the money was taken from my account , even before sending me this email! I am calling and sending them emails constantly since yesterday, but they do not reply!!!!! Green motion is a scam!!!!

Rented a car in Vienna airport and when showing at the location and called to the number, the phone was not on. Called the worldwide number which just told me to write an email due the high number of calls. Sent the mail to which after some hours I still don’t have an answer. After several attempts to call their contact I decided to use a taxi and go to their office 5 km away from the airport. Although is was still working hours the office was closed. So, I can’t rate the experience because they simply did not provide any, and all their contacts are useless. This is a scam that must stop. It is not acceptable to have this type of companies cheating people.

Green Motion car rental Edinburgh was a total scam. Unfriendly and arrogant, totally reluctant to make a small correction in a abusively wrong spelled surname. Result: 300£ loss and a very “kind” new proposal of 865£ which we refused of course. Their business model is to rent the same car twice. We had to take the 300£ loss and went to Budget Car Rental. Budget were very friendly and helpfull. Green Motion is a scandalous scam.

We rented a vehicle at London City Airport on the 11th of June for two days. The car rental inspection report showed pre-existing damage to 3 wheels, including the left front wheel. When we returned the car, the car rental company said we had damaged the wheel in the same spot that was on the original inspection report. We drove the car for 1 day with no recollection whatsoever of hitting any curb or any hazard that would have led to damage to a wheel. There were always two of us in the car, and neither one of us remembered anything. When we returned the vehicle, we were told there was damage to the left passenger wheel. We pointed out that it was there when we picked up the car. The agent said we had made it worse. They put two holds on our credit card for $1800 right away. They charged our credit card UK1535.00 for a new wheel, which we are clearly not fully responsible for. They have charged us for an entirely new wheel at an excessive rate. I wrote to them to ask how much the person who had caused the previous damage, which was much worse than what they alleged we had done, would be charged. I have a picture of the original damage and the damage they claim we did (which we dispute) and it is crystal clear that the damage they say we did in the same spot is much less than what was there already. I have no proof that this wheel was replaced only an invoice for the cost. My Insurance Company in America will need a repair invoice from the Company that did the repair, and they have refused to give it to me. This may affect my ability to claim this money back. This is not a recent issue, as a report from Guardian Money five years ago highlighted Green Motion as “ the car hire firm with a trail of angry customers, furious at bills presented to them when they return a car for hundreds – even thousands – of pounds for the damage they say is barely visible or that was there already”. In the same report, a customer states, “She presented her photographic evidence that the damage was there at pick-up to staff, who admitted it had been previously damaged. But Green Motion then claimed she had also damaged the same area on the car – and therefore, the charge stands,” which is exactly what happened to us. This was 5 years ago, and the complaints have persisted. Since I posted the review on Google, another customer reached out to me to share a similar experience two weeks later with the same model of car, same wheel, and same cost. There is a substantial amount of evidence from Green Motion customers to justify an investigation, as the consumer is left without any protection in such cases. They have charged my credit card and have told me that is within my contract and there is nothing I can do about it. I priced the wheel at two different independent sources, and both said 300 pounds for a new wheel. They are charging up to GBP1300 for one wheel.

Service staff was ok and pleasant. However, the location of the car rental is very questionable and looks very shady at the back of a building. Car was not ready when we got there and it took a while before they were ready with one. And that too, the car that was given to us was just dropped off by another customer, leaving us with an empty gas tank and no interior cleaning of the car. They did hosed down the car right before our eyes- again very questionable experience.

I’m convinced they have a scam going Of its raining they keep you waiting anything up to 2 hrs in yhe rain to collect car. They point out minor damage but on return they find ancilliary damage invisible to the eye which the customer is then charged for. Disgraceful

Used Green Motion twice and both times have been awful. Staff unhelpful and both times they have found a chip in the windscreen (both times they say it is 3mm) we have proof that it was there when we took the car and yet somehow it is our fault and have been told to go elsewhere to complain and yet still kept deposit. We rented a 7 seater for 7 days, it was supposed to be automatic, the company couldn’t provide this because they didn’t have anything else in stock other than manual and yet wouldn’t take the extra money off that we had paid for an automatic. All in all it cost us 1k for the 7 days. If you read reviews on green motion, people are calling it a scam, the prices are always cheaper when you get it but you end up paying more in the long run! Don’t bother with them, more hassle than it’s worth.

Appalling service.. Avoid. I hired a van for 2 days to move stuff to a new flat. It wasn't fully charged so decided to top it up before hitting motorway. None of the points seemed to work although cars either side of me had no problem. I called the office to let them know and was basically told it was charging yesterday, implying I was at fault. I decided to hit the road and try other charge points along the way... All the while the van is losing charge rapidly. After attempting 3 different stations the problem was clearly with vehicle or adaptor cable. I called the office again to express my frustration that I was now stuck by a motorway service station 19miles from my destination with 9% battery, plus I was now 3 hrs behind on my schedule as a result. They told me to call emergency number on contract, but offered no further help. The mechanic arrived 40mins later and after attempting to try charge himself for further 40mins said there was indeed a fault and van would have to be recovered/towed. I would have to remove my belongings from van and find my way to destination.. Which was a can at cost of £50. The following day I had to call the office several times to enquire what was happening. No approach had been made on Green Motion part to apologise, see if I was OK, provide a substitute or alternative vehicle, or refund... Given that I'd paid for 2 days and hadn't even managed 1 day before van broke down. I was also left to my devices stranded at a motorway services forecourt. I was meant to pick up flat keys at 5.30pm.. Due to Green Motion lack of care, I arrived at 10.30pm, plus extra £50. Each time I phoned I was told they were just the front desk handing over the keys to customers... I needed to email customer services If I had a complaint!! Why am I having to chase them when the vehicle I paid for has a) broken down b) no longer with me? Where was the customer care and service. This company do not care, are basically a scamming device interested only in preying on any unfortunate incident, taking your money and washing their hands of you. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CUSTOM! They ignore emails, calls, pass the buck, and will not enter any discussion of customer care.

Careful - if they can, they will rinse you. I’d give no stars if I could… Hired a car for 6 days through CarJet and paid extra for the full insurance package. This was a great price at £130. After we landed in Newcastle I realised I’d forgotten my driving licence, which was not ideal. My wife was following two days later, and had my licence, so I called Green Motion direct and tried to find a solution. They were so helpful on the phone, really friendly and understanding, and they said not to worry, they could help us sort something out in the morning, switching the driver to someone else in our party, hopefully without any fees. I wasn’t too worried, as adding a driver was only £10 on the T&Cs. Worse case I thought, I could always collect the car on Monday. However, when I arrived at the office with my replacement driver, they told me I would need to pay £120 to change drivers (pretty much the full hire price), or £240 if I wanted to be fully insured (an insurance that cost me £30 through CarJet). Absolutely insane money and the opposite of the helpful chat they gave over the phone. Seems they just wanted to get me in the office to try and squeeze more money out of me. At this stage I had no choice but to cancel the booking, taking the £130 hire fee as a loss, rather than throw more money after a bad decision. Obviously this is fundamentally my fault for forgetting my driving licence, but this is a warning to anyone considering using this company that if they can catch you out in any way they will absolutely shaft you. No attempt whatsoever to offer any kind of reasonable customer service. They are not interested in helping you at all. I mean… how hard would it have been to let me pick the car up a couple of days later once my licence arrived? I’d have happily forfeit the two days hire for my mistake… No help whatsoever - just £130 for nothing. I will never use this company again. Be careful!

On April 25th I purchased a car rental reservation through Hopper at 4:29pm for an elderly family member flying into Orlando airport the following day. I received notification at 10pm that the airline carrier was experiencing a delay. Thusly, I called to notify Hopper of the change. Hopper (we) issued a call to Green Motion at 10:17pm to avoid any issues with the purchased reservation. We were not to be considered a no-show because of the fact that I informed Hopper and placed a call the night before to inform green motion of the delayed flight for my family member. Which was, in fact, the same evening and within hours of purchased reservation. Therefore, with this notification, Green Motion was supposed to reserve the car in accordance with the policies regarding prior notification for delays made public to consumers. In the event that Green Motion was unable to reserve the car they should have issued a refund. Knowingly renting a purchased/reserved vehicle to another customer is bad business practice. This is actionable from a consumer perspective. Hoppers calls are recorded for quality assurance. The calls to Hopper and from Hopper are retrievable. This provides evidence to the fact that I had exhausted all facets to ensure that I upheld my responsibilities as a consumer and advised of changes that occurred through no fault of my own well in advance to the pick up time scheduled for the car rental. This is predatory behavior should be made public to unsuspecting consumers. No one should have to endure this type of business practice which is theft. BUYER BEWARE. N. Elie

Absolute scam, stay away!! On returning the car, the only material posted neatly on the wall of the reception is a long, detailed listing of charges for damages - clearly being used frequently!! I returned car with minuscule scoff on the underside of front bumper and superficial scratch on rear bumper which may or may not have been there on picking up vehicle but is absolutely normal wear and tear when driving. Demand was made for “major damage and $ 800 deducted from deposit. Will decline the charge on credit card and contest which is a pain and can be time consuming. Had to call office to get shuttle, did not run every 15 minutes as advertised. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY, THEY APPEAR TO BE SCAMMING CUSTOMERS FOR MADE UP DAMAGES.

My car rental was a mess. I only booked for one day, but the rental office wasn't at the airport, which was a pain. The pick-up service was 45 minutes late, and then it took 15 more minutes to get to the office, wasting an hour. When I finally got there, the car was dirty, and they wanted a big 2000 BHS security deposit. They said it was just a hold on my credit card and would give it back when I returned the car, but I had to wait a whole month to get it back. Then, 15 days later, I saw they charged 650 BHS on my credit card without my permission. They said it was for damage to the car, but I returned it without any scratches. After arguing, they admitted it was a mistake but didn't give me the money back like they promised. I tried to get the refund from my bank, but they said it would take another 30 days because the rental company didn't release the money. This whole thing was awful, and I won't rent from them again.

When I returned my car, they said there was damage. Given that I hardly used it, this is unlikely. However, how they "discovered" the damage was clearly fraudulent, and I will look into their claim's legality. My daughter is a lawyer, so you messed with the wrong customer. I left my car in the exact spot where I had initially parked it, right in front of the porta cabin. To my surprise, they then requested me to drive the car around the back , a request I have never encountered with any other car rental agency, anywhere in the world. They then said they would inspect it and suggested I wait in the office. Having never been on the receiving end of scams like this, I didn't think anything of it. Then, after about 10 minutes, they miraculously found damage. They inspected it while I was not present, and, more importantly, the car and the people checking it were out of view.

***GREENMOTION CAR HIRE - CITY AIRPORT***DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES HIRE A CAR FROM THIS BUNCH OF THIEVES! They have charged me £68 for a £2.50 oversight on the Dartford crossing. Yes, it's in the contract and it's called an "Admin Fee" but it's just a way for them to make money out of you in other ways. I paid £68 for an email as I paid the late payment of £2.50 direct. I WAS a loyal customer of this bunch of crooks, using their cars numerous times but for the sake of £68 they have lost my custom permanently! WARNING! THEY PUT A CHARGE ON YOUR CREDIT CARD SO THAT THEY CAN TAKE MONEY WHEN THEY LIKE AND THEY DON'T TAKE IT OFF AFTERWARDS LIKE THEY PROMISED ME SO MAKE SURE YOU GET IT TAKEN OFF BY YOUR BAN

Green Motion car hire, according to Guardian Money, are the most complained about company in this industry. It's not hard to see why. We needed a car fairly urgently and didnt read the reviews as well as we usually do. I phoned prior to picking up to ask if there was some way we could use our digital licences (which are way more secure than cards anyway) to be talked over, shouted at and constantly interrupted when all i was doing was trying to find a solution to a situation. when i arrived at the premises I was told I was not being given a car as i had been abusive on the phone. We were left stranded with luggage and without a car. There were other people in the office all having very similar experiences with the staff at this office and reading further reviews I do feel I actually got off lightly. The fact that I used a broker probably meant they had no way of either upselling or claiming over inflated prices for 'damage' which appears to be their business model based on others experiences with Green Motion.

Returned car to Stansted airport, where I was greeted by Tomas. He proceeded to check my car, and managed to find damage on a wheel trim which was 1cm long, he even came and showed me that it had “just been done” as he showed me silver flakes on his finger. He was extremely arrogant in his manner, took over 20 mins to measure the damage, £140 was the fee for this damage. He was probably the worst customer service agent I have ever encountered in all of my years of using car hire agencies. Avoid Green Motion, I wish I had taken everyone’s advice.
