i bought a bike for my three year old granddaughter, the store that i bought it from could not assemble it as it was a Saturday! they told me i could take it to another store close to where i lived, my granddaughter was very upset as she wanted to take it home and ride it. the first opportunity i had to take the bike to a different store was the following Wednesday, i checked first online and it had 'usually quiet today' so o made the trip to the store, the bike department was up the stairs, i have arthritis and asked if someone could carry the box upstairs for me. the assistant went off and tried to find someone, but came back and said no one was available, i struggled and carried the box up stairs myself. I ask the assistant if someone could please assemble the bike, she came back and said it would be possible to assemble the bike until the following Monday, remember i took it in on Wednesday. I asked to speak to the manager, who regaled me with his tales of woe, two assistants on holiday one on leave, fifteen bikes to assemble blah blah blah, i told him my granddaughter was only three and was desperate to have her bike, he then said to me, thats your problem, children cannot expect to have something just because they want it!!!!!!!! I told him that in that case his staffing issues were his problem and not mine, Halfords clearly state that if you buy a bike before midday you can have it assembled that day, we did not get that service on the day we bought the bike and i wanted the bike assembling asap. I was told that if i had bought the bike from that store i would have had it assembled by now, however this new bike was going to be treated as a repair!!! I was lost for words i left the bike, as it needed to be assembled and left the store. This service is appalling, i will certainly think twice about buying anything from Halfords again.

Halfords (Charlton) is the worst store I have ever come across. After ordering an expensive road bioke and taking their recommended extras, pump, water bottle and cage etc. I received a sms telling me when I could collect the bike. So far, so good. When I went to the store, within half a hour of receiving the sms, the guy that sent it (the same guy that took my order) wasn't there. So, I was dealt with by a female assistant. This is when things started going wrong. First, she messed up my "interest free" credit application and it was rejected. No problem, I paid with my debit card. Just before I paid, I noticed something else on the invoice. There was a charge of £6 for a "Taster Pack". I told her that I had not ordered such an itam and didn't even know what it was??? She then told me that everybody gets one. I then told her that I did not want whatever it is. She then told me that I can have it for free and that she will take the £6 off my final bill. What I discovered, when I got home was that the "Taster PAck" that the store tried to charge me for is actually "free" and clearly states that on the pack. It is given away by a company called High 5 and contains half a dozen samples of energy supplements, definitely not worth £2 never mind £6. Problem two then came about, when I got home. I had "opted out" of marketing emails and yet they were in my inbox when I got home only one hour later. I unsubscribed. I also noticed when checking my receipt that I was supposed to get a "free" six week service but no date had been entered. After unsubscribing from their emails, I reveived another one, from a marketing comapny, doing Market Research for Halfords. I mentioned the problems and ticked the boxes for Halfords to contact me, gave my mobile number and have since heard nothing. In addition, the pump I bought is absolutely useless for a road bike as it fell apart on the 1st use. It appears that it cannot cope with the high pressure of the tyres (between 100 to 110 psi). I then emailed Halfords Customer Services and complained. The least I would have expected would have been a fob off but they didn't even have the courtesy to reply or phone me to fob me off. The six weeks free service would be due today and still no contact from Halfords. This is clearly a case for Trading Standards as Halfords are misleading customers with clains that they will get a free service and charge £6 for a free (sample) product and intentionally mess up credit applications so the customer has to pay cash. They are more concerned with selling extras than making the customer happy. Never again will I buy from Halfords (have recently bought a set of spare tyres, lights, inner tubes, afoot pump (to replace the useless hand pump etc. etc and have so far spent over £100 and not a penny went to Halfords. I am now recommending, to others, that they use Decathlon, Amazon or their local Independent cycle store for their purchases. Keep this bad attitude towards customers, after they have made the large purchase (bike) and you will soon be the next UK company to go into receivership. They are plenty of competitors left for customers to go to and they can certainly save a lot of money using Amazon as Amazon's prices are far cheaper than Halfords. Had I ahd the option, I would have given Halfords a rating of minus one star but sadly that option is not available.

Halfords. greyhound retail park Chester. nothing wrong with the service but when I paid for my purchase the sales assistant, Sarah, asked for my email address and said it was only so that they could send me a receipt/guarantee. Complete lie. Hours later I started receiving marketing junk.

Halfords Sutton, need to sort out their customer care. Ordered a parrot system, and fitting, told I needed an iso lead. Booked a date, was told it may change, but would be called if so. (no call) turned up, but told they cannot do, and that it was going to have to be another day,no apology, just that it will have to be another day! When I asked for area manager number, told, don't have one, and he was the manager. Offered a discount, (still no apology).decided to walk out. Received a call to offer more discount (still no apology). Told them I had lost trust in them

Time waster Gave me an appointment at 10.30 to check my car air conditioning . Been told they will call me as soon as the car ready/ checked. Waited till 2 pm and called the auto centre to find out the update , I have been told my car will be seen last and will be 5pm. I went to the auto centre at 5 pm and there wasn't any one in the reception , I was waiting there another 10-15 mins to be seen by someone . Then I had to walkin to the garage side and asked one of the staff where my car is and what's the update. Another staff came and told they can't see the car today . Leave the car and will see it tomorrow . I just wasted my whole day for them . If they were too busy why would they take my booking . Very frustrated.

I've had a Halfords bike for about 3 1/2 years now (Carrera TDF £299), within two weeks the chain had completely rusted (which I got them to relpace). After about a year it needed a service. When it was in, the guy said how many miles a week do I do, I said about 40, he said he would not of sold that bike as it was only suitable for about about one use a week!! Anyway three services later, I've just had a GOLD service (£130), gears, brakes, cables etc. They said bring it back in two to three weeks to get the cables retensioned after the service, which I did. As soon as I got it back the gears were slipping/squeaking and there was a delay between changing gear and the actual gear change happening, also the rear wheel was wobbly. So I took it back to Halfords, they had a look, retensioned the gears AGAIN, and told me the rear hub needed replacing!!!!! What did I pay £130 for, the only thing that was done was the brakes were replaced. Why does it come back from a Gold service for me to take it straight back for an issue that was not there before. I tried to leave feedback on the Halfords website, but the feedback page has been taken down, I can't imagine why!! I'm never going back to Halfords, they are an absolute disgrace. I only left one star because there isn't a NO star option.

What went wrong? "What went right ?" would be more appropriate. We wanted to buy a bike for our grandson's birthday. He lives 150 miles away, & the plan was that we would order a bike online for our son to pick up in his local store on our grandson's birthday (in a couple of weeks time). The website ad stated that we could reserve the bike, and also personalise it with his name. Neither proved to be possible, although we chatted with a pleasant lady on the chat/helpline - she also could not access these options & suggested we should go into our local Halfords store where we could pay for the bike and arrange for it to be personalised and sent to our son's local store for pickup. Untrue. We made a special journey into town only to discover that this was not an option. It seems we are unable to pay Halfords for an item in one store & have it picked up in another Halfords store. By now we were getting frustrated, but came home and telephoned our son's local store, only to be told that they are not allowed to take payment over the phone and our son would have to go in to reserve or buy the bike (and arrange for personalisation) and then we would have to send money to him via bank transfer. This is NOT how we like to buy birthday presents. Alternatively we could order online and have the bike delivered, unassembled, but could not guarantee it would arrive on our grandson's birthday, or at a time when his working parents would be at home to receive it. We might as well order from Amazon. We are sure we are not the only grandparents who like to buy presents for distant grandchildren. Poor show Halfords - you clearly don't want the business.

Our initial first visit was good. Staff member talked to me about a specific bike which he asked me to point out on his screen. He spoke to his manager and offered to put one together for us to see and try advising us to come back later in the week. We revisited on Saturday and after a 25minute wait were told it hadn't been done! That was it! They were obviously under pressure to serve an ever increasing queue of people but as we had revisited especially and I had seen the item boxed on the shop floor I asked if we could open the box to have a look. He walked us over then promptly engaged in a conversation with another member of staff completely ignoring us. We stood awkwardly waiting. The other member of staff explained that his colleague was needed elsewhere so he would take over. He then said he just needed to serve some other people first and he would come back. We asked if we could open the box in his absence and he agreed. We didn't see him again despite being in the store another 10 to 15 minutes. We walked out and went to another retailer. Talk about making customers feel worthless, and a burden. WE WANTED TO SPEND MONEY! There are 5 in our family but none of us will be using Halford in Colchester ever again for our cycling , camping or motor needs. I'd only shop at another store if I couldn't get the product elsewhere! Staff up, train up and wise up Halfords. There is now much competition and you cannot afford to be complacent just because you are well known.

I ordered a bicycle tyre from the local store via the website. It was in stock and the order was accepted. My wife went to collect it an hour later as instructed and they knew nothing about it. After some investigation, they found the order, picked the tyre, she paid and left. On arriving home, the tyre was not the size I ordered. I telephoned the store and after a few minutes checking stock they told me that the size I wanted was not in stock. I asked when it would be in stock. They advised that they didn't know but they were getting a delivery tomorrow, that might contain the size I needed but they didn't know. I opted to return the tyre. However, when offering the receipt and the tyre for a refund was told that the actual tyre and the receipt were not for the same product and therefore a refund was not possible. It was refunded 5 minutes later after an exchange of views. Shocking place.

This is what i was told when i called the customer service. It was my first time to order something online from halford and i am definitely not going to make the same mistake again.

Bought two new tyres. Later discovered that one had been fitted incorrectly (the inside was on the outside!). Took car back and had tyre refitted. Later drove the car on the motorway only to discover that the wheel(s) were out of balance with shocking vibration. Took car back again and was told that one of the wheels was out of balance needing a 30gm, weight. Not sure everyone would have spotted the tyre error and I just wonder how that might have affected the car in, a) the wet and, b) in an emergency stop manoeuvre? Shocking. Summed up in two words: Never Again!

I have previously had bad experiences with Halfords when my parents in law were sold wrong baby carseat with incorrect information. They were told that if the child weights more than 9kg, by law the child would need to face forward. This is absolute bs since the recommendations state the child should stay rear facing up to 3 years old. Now I was buying another child seat and found the one I was looking for from both Halfords website and Mothercare. I decided to give Halfords a second chance and ordered from them since it was £5 cheaper than Mothercare. I recreg that now. I have never received this carseat and have received no replies to my contact efforts with them to find out what is going on. I will never buy anything from Halfords ever again and will tell everyone considering of buying a carseat not to buy it from Halfords.

Having stopped for a break on my way to Northampton on 2 April 2016, subsequently, I had to seek professional roadside support to start my car. I was advised by the mechanic in attendance that the battery was dead and that Halfords who were located nearby would fit a new one. With every confidence I bought a new battery at Halfords and paid the ten pound fitting fee, having first ascertained that indeed they could fit the battery in my Audi A4. A very pleasant young man tried his best to do the job but after fifteen or twenty confessed that he had no idea how to remove the old existing battery in my car. He consulted his manager who also drives an Audi A4 and was told that he would never attempt it to remove the battery from Audi car for fear of damaging the neighbouring electronic wiring. Sadly, a clearly embarrassed and the very apologetic young man gave up on this job, refunded my money and jump started the car in order that I could progress on my journey with a dead and semi useless battery. I eventually succeed at having the old battery removed and a new one fitted by a garage mechanic. This entire procedure took him fifteen minutes and although it required unscrewing an extra nut that was not easily visible it did not present him with any difficulties because he knew what he was doing. In conclusion, I feel sorry for the man at Halfords who tried to change my battery, somewhat surprised and disappointed that his manager did not consider it was important for his store to be able to change batteries in all car makes and not just some of them and totally bewildered by Halfords in that they claim and charge for fitting some items, such as batteries, which they sell in their stores and yet they do not appear to give their staff adequate training.

Bought a Boardman comp on the cycle2 work scheme in September last year. By the end March this year three spokes had popped the bottom bracket had failed and the rear hub collapsed. Halfords put this down to fair wear and tear and after three times of asking still seem unwilling to send me a copy of their complaints procedure. They are offering to repair the hub at my expense but cannot say when this will happen. There's no chance I'm giving them another penny of my money but i'll make them earn the costs I already know i'll never recoup by complaining every day until March next year.
