Booked a holiday with Sykes Cottages Had to cancel due to operation ,although I had paid insurance along with my holiday Sykes refused to pay the money I had paid back BEWARE OF BOOKING WITH THIS COMPANY

I discovered that I had left an item at Fir Tree cottage in Llanrug, Snowdonia. I contacted the Owners on my return home only to find them particularly difficult, unhelpful and uncooperative. The Owners simply did not respond to any of my messages once the "review period" had finished. Given my experience of Sykes, I would not recommend them at all, book elsewhere. Sykes themselves were of no help whatsoever.

Please be aware that Sykes holiday cottages are the dearest platform, it is far cheaper to book through Booking.com or Airbnb. I received 20% Discount from the owner. After this was applied Sykes holiday cottages were still dearer than I could’ve booked on Booking.com. When complaining found they were most unhelpful would never use this company again.

Would give no stars if I could. Property location completely different to description and photos out of date. Asked for a gesture of goodwill as holiday was not as expected and didn’t even get an apology. Am raising with Trading Standards. Would never book with them again.

CROOKS...I CANCELLED WELL IN ADVANCE OF DATES AND THEY KEPT MY DEPOSIT. THEY NEVER ANSWER PHONES NOR EMAILS....RUN FROM SYKES!!!

Property not cleaned properly, urine around base of master bedroom toilet, dust around numerous places around the edges, cobweb above door in master bedroom, heating not working, later managed to get downstairs working. Floor in hallway and kitchen soaking wet upon arrival, cleaner must have done a mad dash before I arrived at 4pm. No visitors book for comments. Settees in both living rooms very uncomfortable. Beds also uncomfortable. Sykes/Lakeland Lovers slow to respond about heating and oven door seal. On the plus side a spacious property, lovely setting, fairly well equipped, although not leaving enough toilet rolls is not acceptable and a bit mean. Left early on the Thursday due to poor quality sleep. Registered a complaint, been offered the booking fee back £77, which is an insult for a £1800 holiday. Feel like we haven't had a relaxing holiday. You have issues with your cleaners and maintenance people.

Very unprofessional, take no responsibility of what goes wrong. Unhelpful . They need looking into because they get away with to much. Don't understand exactly what they do but take a cut of the money. Rented out a property that would not pass health and safety. Done nothing with my complaint. My review left for them was never put up .I wonder why. Over £3000 ,to rent this property overpriced dump You can't even download all the pictures here.

Burnside Cottage, Braithwaite stayed in this cottage for the past 3 years and booked while we were there for 2025, deposit paid and booking contract confirmed via e mail. Owner has refused our booking for 2025 due unpublished feed back given following this visit. Wish I had pressed publish instead of being professional and sending it as confidential. Arrived to find a large note on oven saying it was not working. 3 days later received a phone call from Sykes saying engineer arriving that day and to leave a key which we reluctantly did as it there was no where to lock away valuables, car keys etc. Alternative was to stay in all day. Engineer attended, oven not fixed. On departure left polite note for Housekeeping Team and additional note re blocked shower drain which I cleaned removing clumps of hair that had clearly been there a long time and noisy airlocks in both toilets which were there from day we arrived and could be a sign of something serious ie blocked drains. Via Sykes on line feed back to owner also mentioned garden has planting growing over paths and in need of some attention (safety issue) toaster works but no markings as so well used and could lead to a fire if something is burnt which is another safety issue. tv far too small for lounge which we have mentioned before. acknowledged new garden furniture but questioned why leave broken set in the garden and not clear a broken bbq that had a note on it 'left by previous visitors use at own risk'. Why not clear the rubbish? Received call yesterday from sykes saying our booking had been refused by the owner. Totally in breach of their contractual T & C's which we will take further. Lets hope that the other comments made re cleaning standards etc by other visitors have not resulted in the same treatment

They do not do much for their money as everything is done by yourselves on line. They do have lovely properties but if for any reason you need to cancel they will not return any of your money even if they still have 3 months left to fill the property again. So Beware.

No support from sykes cottages after we completed about the unclean accommodation that we booked for a 3 day break at Ridgeway in Bridlington (of which we left the next morning) even with photo evidence, they said we should have contacted the owner even though we booked through sykes. When they connected the own she did know what the problem was,some people obviously don't have standard. Sykes cottages customer services are useless will never use them again

Made an online booking for a cottage in 2025. Agreed to pay a deposit of 87 pounds and gave payment info. They immediately (same day) showed the booking as cancelled, re-listed the booked dates as available to others, and charged the equivalent of 327 pounds to our credit card. The only contact avenue was to click on our online booking and message them. Since they had cancelled our booking, that was a dead end. We pursued other means and could not get any response. There was no way to leave a phone message after trying several international calls. Eventually we found an email address and emailed. No response. I have filed a dispute with our credit card company. I would not book a holiday through them again and, if I was a rental owner, I would not list with them. Sykes? Yikes!

The cottage poets corner Malvern.had moths flying around and landing on your face.this was also mentioned on earlier reviews.We booked for 3 nights but left after 1 night due to this problem. Asked sykes for a refund but they refused. And stated if you leave the doors and windows open in a rural area you expect insects.A MOTH infestation is not an insect issue, as there was lava eggs in the carpet. Will never use SYKES COTTAGES again and especially poets corner Malvern.As the owner would not refund either and did not care for the customer,never mind they are all making a good living and profit and it just the paying renter who pays the price

I did not receive the £150 cleaning deposit back that i paid to the owner of the holiday let and Sykes Cottages have been no help at all. More serious than that though, 7 days after we returned home my 9 year old granddaughter received through the post a formal caution letter from the local county council for fly tipping !! It appears that the owners/ housekeeper of the holiday let decided to dump the contents of the wheely bins (5 black bin bags) down a country lane. Unfortunately for us one of the bags contained a birthday card envelope to my granddaughter at her home address. Her parents had to fill in a formal PACE form on her behalf. Obviously we contacted the council in question and explained the situation and they are pursuing the owners. On both these matters Sykes have shown no interest or concern. Getting them to reply to an email is like pulling teeth. This was the second year running we have booked with Sykes, there won't be a third.
