After 6 months of correspondence, broken promises of a refund, and refusal by Sykes to adhere to their own coronavirus guidelines, I placed the matter with my bank who successfully recovered my holiday cost for me under the chargeback scheme. So Sykes have lost another customer.

Awful awful awful - do not use when booking to go to the Lake District for a holiday cottage. Sykes Cottages are the worst holiday firm I have used and really treated us badly. Highly recommend you use Sally’s Cottages instead

Have just returned from Bluebell cottage Cark. It was one of the nicest holiday cottages we have stayed in. So clean and comfortable, a really home from home. Lots of thought gone into it, couldn't believe the number of coat hangers and drawer space. It was great to have a mirror near an electric plug a rarity in holiday homes. Situated in a lovely quiet cul de sac in a village with lots of walks close by. The Engine pub, 2 mins walk with a supermarket opposite. The pub serving good meals and very friendly also for dogs 🐕. We had problem working the heating but Neil the owner came out to us promptly and got it sorted without delay. Can't wait to return to this lovely cottage and area.

well presented except you could see straight into the shower room & we had to make a screen using kitchen roll. Bedrooms had wet curtains each morning with damp. 1 tiny bin in kitchen was only bin in bungalow. Be prepared for steep hills, but there's a pub a few minutes walk away with good food.. re Greenbank Cres., Porth

If I could give them zero stars I would. They would not refund their portion of the charge after the rental was cancelled by them (not me). So, I disputed the charge with my bank charge card and won. Shortly after I received a partial credit from Sykes so my bank recharged the amount they credited. Sykes continues to allege that I owe them this money even after I sent them proof of payment. They are threatening to take legal action if I do not pay. They are either incompetent or crooks. Needless to say I will never use Sykes to schedule my holiday nor will my friends.

I would NOT use this company. You can not get hold of them by telephone and they do not reply to their emails. Stayed in a cottage and asked to pay £145 cleaning costs for a slight mark on carpet! Do not use.

Do not book with this company it is filthy smelly springs poking through mattress came home after 3 days. Do not read reviews on Sykes cottages site because they are fake. I should have looked on trust pilot then I would not have booked

CLOSES BARN was a biomass farm with a large industrial chimney burning and spitting out smoke ALL the time. Right by the bedroom window. While house constantly stank of smoke and couldn’t open windows. Decking broken, thick dust and dirt everywhere - terrible at the best of times but worse during COVID. Complained on arrival and ignored. Complained when we left, complained when we came back. Offered a £50 return on an £1800 booking! Owners told them they didn’t agree - despite us sending in over 80 photos and video evidence of broken showers, broken decking etc.

This is the worst company we ever dealt with. We booked in January for cottages in Cheshire and Eire and have had to cancel due to Covid-19. Being 71 and 70 we are in a very vulnerable age group. Also as we are Canadians we would have to isolate for 14 days if we traveled against our Government's advice. They refuse to refund the deposits even though both cottages have been re-rented.

The most fraudulent company ever. Rebooked a holiday due to covid to try and do them a favour and in return was charged an extra £205. When I refused to pay I was told I was going to lost everything (clearly this is fraud!! And possibly borderline extortion!) had to wait 30 minutes on hold for the pleasure of this conversation. When I requested to be put through to a manager I was refused. I then asked to go through the independent complaints process I was told they didn’t have one and the company didn’t have to be accountable because it was a private company. Then I was hung up on. Clearly they provide no relevant customer service training. DO NOT USE!!

The most shocking fraudulent company ever. We re arranged a holiday due to covid to try and do them a favour and in return we were charged an extra £205. When I requested a cancellation I was told I would lose everything. No apology, never answer their phone. When I asked to be put through to a manager was told that was not possible. When I asked to go through the independent complaints process was informed their company didn’t have one and didn’t have to be accountable to anyone as they are a private company l. In the end was forced to pay £205 which in my view is extortion, and customer agent even refused to take payment and hung up informing me I could just “pay on the app” By the way this is the app where the customer live chat function is disabled and no one answers email. I had to wait 30 Minutes on hold for the pleasure of being cut off!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

I made a booking with Sykes cottages in February to go to Geltsdale east wing 24th-27th December 2020 for 7 people with the latest government guidance of 6 people being allowed to travel I went on to the Sykes website and there was a statement on there to say ALL customers are entitled to refunds or to change there date but they are prioritising refunds for people travelling September & October first So I called Sykes and was told by someone who claimed to be a manager names alister that although the agreed it does sounds like that it actually means only September & October can have refunds or change the date at the moment so when I said we’ll isn’t that false advertising he informed me as I was the only person to complain it would not be changed (ironically the next day they changed the online statement I have screenshots to prove the change) I informed alistar that the full balance of £892 was due to come out on the 11th November and I wasn’t willing to pay this if I could not go and his answer was o don’t worry you will know either way by then. Then today I called Sykes cottages again the first time on hold for 30 minutes for some to answer and then put the phone down then 2nd time I spoke to a foreign lady names geo she said that my booking was showing as only 6 people so I’d be fine which is incorrect as I booked and paid for 7 so now seriously worried! She the went on to tell me they cannot confirm I will be told by the 11th November if My booking will be going ahead or not so she said alistar Miss informed me and that he isn’t intact a manager he’s just a member or the senior so when I asked to speak to a manager to report being lied to numerous times she’s wouldn’t let me speak to a manager no matter how many times I pleaded. Im so worried as now I either cancel and pay £300 to cancel or pay £900 for a holiday I may not be able to go on! I’m at my whits end with this I don’t know what I can do as this is a Christmas booking I don’t know what to do as we could be left with nowhere to go and £900 out of pocket

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY. They took my booking two weeks ago, sat on the money for two weeks, and then today called and said the owner had changed their minds and the booking was cancelled. My holiday was ruined, meanwhile they get a cancellation fee from the owner so they MAKE MONEY off my holiday being ruined. And if I had cancelled I would have lost the whole amount. If you book with them understand they ONLY CARE about the property owners and any reservation you make is completely worthless.

Art Deco house Menai Bridge Anglesey, this house was filthy & although we have complained to Sykes we have got no where. During Covid we expected a clean property, how wrong we were. Instead we had to clean on arrival & also found the vacuum was full of other peoples dirt ! This is unacceptable at any time, but during a pandemic totally unforgivable. Shame on you Sykes cottages !

I'd give it zero stars if I could! We will never use Sykes or anything associated with them ever again. Awful company. Don't answer phone, emails or anything. They can send emails saying that we owed some money but not reply to us. We cancelled our holiday as you couldn't travel with 3 households anyway, a family member had to shield as had cancer. They were insisting that we owed money for cancelling and even threatened legal action! In the end after causing stress to my family they said if you have proof we will waive the fee! So they got sent relevant letters from NHS, Government and the Council saying exactly what we'd been saying to them for weeks. Global Pandemic and they act like this! Horrible company. Shame because cottage owners will miss out because of this. This isn't just a one off, I'd rent your property out privately if I were you!

Our flights were cancelled due to COVID, even if we were able to travel, we would have had to quarantine for 14 days making the entire vacation a complete waste. I contacted the property manager the same day the flights were cancelled, a week later after hearing nothing tried again (via VRBO, who also say they contacted the property manager). A few days later still no response whatsoever. Attempted to call and ended up on hold, never able to get through. At this point, since Sykes Cottages appear entirely unwilling to even respond to me, I opened a dispute with my credit card company. Explaining the situation and hoping they would side with me.... of course, they instead sided with Sykes Cottages who claimed "the charges are valid" I mean, sure they were valid when I booked and paid in full before sh*t really hit the fan, before my flights were cancelled by the airline and before I would have to quarantine for 14 days even if the flights had not been cancelled. But, instead of attempting some level of customer service and offering either a refund or an option to rebook with 24 months, they just ignore me and refused to issue a refund. It is of little surprise that this company was already investigated by the UK government.... https://www.gov.uk/government/news/covid-19-cma-secures-refunds-from-second-major-holiday-lets-firm Now if only someone that worked there would realize that just because the UK is no longer under national lockdown (despite multiple local lockdowns, quarantine rules, increasing number of COVID cases etc.) that many travelers are facing issues and so a little compassion and maybe offering refunds would go a lot further than sticking their head in the sand. Better customer service would do a whole lot more for the bottom line of the company than the abysmal service currently offered.
