“Absolutely disgusting bought a Vauxhall Grandland from Arnold Clark mount Vernon Glasgow paid for the interior and exterior protection and it was never applied noticed brake discs on rear were grooved and scored badly this is a brand new car only done 8k and on first service was told I have pay out nearly £500 on discs and pads I am absolutely disgusted by this and when I called customer service I was told it was down to my driving and wear and tear as for the protection I am still waiting to hear …, I will never deal with this shameful company again only happy to take your money ….,”
“Told lies about the car to get us to agree to the sale. Turned the keys to drive away and it all went downhill from there. Car needed a service, child locks don’t work, no paperwork for what we’d agreed to (service history etc) and was told at sales that this was the final year for car tax to be at the rate it was. Vehicle docs came through and this wasn’t true. Many emails to sales guy said details were passed to manager more than once and no contact - they’re just not interested once they have your money and tell you lies to agree to the sale. STAY WELL AWAY FROM ARNOLD CLARK WAKEFIELD.”
“Absolutely hellish experience with these guys. Bought my car from them 3 weeks ago and after a few days of driving it a noticed there was a noise coming from the front of the car. As I was still within my 60 day guarantee the service department booked it into the garage so they could take a look.
The first garage at Seafield Edinburgh couldn’t find fault with it, so they sent it along to the other garage across the road for them to take a look. I then got a phone called to say that the car is now getting taken to Hyundai and Stirlingshire as they thought they needed a new steering bracket. .
I was told that I would receive a courtesy car and it will be ready for me to pick up the next again day. One arriving at the location to pick up my courtesy car, I was told that there wasn’t one for me. I then had to go back in the afternoon to pick up a car. They had my new car in that garage for two weeks. During this time 6 different members of staff called me to ask what was going on with my car and could I explain the problem, in which I replied, I don’t know I’m not a mechanic and what the hell was going on with it. I was then told by a member of their staff that new, back brake pads and discs had been changed as the brake pads and discs that were on the car when I bought, it were not Hyundai‘s brake pads and discs.WTF. They then said that my car is ready to pick up, why would they not automatically change the front brakes and pads. As soon as I got in the car. I could still hear the same noise from my initial complaint. I then had to call them again and wait another week for the car to be booked back into the garage. On complaining to the management I was told that I would have new front brake pads and discs and a courtesy car waiting for me. Absolute lies from their manager, Michael, Joel.
Just took it there this morning for one of their service engineers to start my engine up hear my squeaky grinding brakes and for him to tell me that’s how your car should sound. The after-care service is unacceptable from this company to be lied to and passed around from different service departments different phone calls from different members of staff. Them passing the buck onto one person to another.
Three weeks of absolute complete nonsense. You’ll be pleased to know Arnold Clark that I took my car directly to Halfords. after I was told there was nothing wrong with it.A simple cleaning of the brake pads and discs was all that was needed to clear the noise, why could you have not have checked that’s and done that. Your service engineer didn’t even look at my brake, pads or disks.Spending 21,000 on a car that just needed a wee TLC, I have bought all my cars from Arnold Clark since passed my test 30 years ago. never again will I be dealing with this company or these people that work for them, avoid at all costs.”
“Why can't motor dealers check the cars before selling them? My son purchased a car from the Vauxhall dealership in East Kilbride, Glasgow. In the 3 weeks he's owned it, it has been sitting in another Arnold Clark dealership in Paisley for over a week and a half with no sign of him getting it back anytime soon. Awaiting parts apparently. Obvious fault with the gear box, don't need to be a mechanic to know that. Due to his age he can't get insurance for a courtesy/hired car. His second car purchase through AC and both have been bad experiences although this time way worse than the first.”
“what if i told you i bought a car and its mot was done at point of sale you would think well its good for 12 months but no after 12 minutes of signing eng man light of so they agree to fix will be 2 or 3 days 6 weeks later i collect car to have all lights come back on after 12minutes.
you would think that was unlucky! you would be right
but if i said this has happened twice in a row you would think jesus thats really bad
actually this has happened 3 times in a row and im taking legal action.
this is why it happens below
ac buy problematic car from auction or fail to examine a trade in due to concentrating on sale
if a car has warning light they use code reader to knock them out and do not fix fault
they then mot while clear knowing full well they will come back on
they then sell you the car with warranty
they then send you to ac to get work done on warranty and give you hire car from your warranty
which they make profit on may i add
they then claim to do the work but only clear codes for same thing to happen.
I feel sorry for the honest local garage selling quality cars and being rigourously examined for being trustworthy while this multi national company gets away with very very lewd tactics, its so unfair.
My advice
Dont finance a car find a quality low mileage one yourself for half the price with a loan or credit card as finance rates are just stupid now, i think ac will collapse within 5 years.”
“ARNOLD CLARK ARE FRAUDULENT, OLDBURY BREACHED PERSONAL DATA TO RECIEVE DISCOUNTS ON CARS. REMEBER WHO YOU MEET ON THE WAY UP. YOU PASS THEM ON THE WAY DOWN”
“Is there 0 (zero) rating? if yes, I want to downgrade my rating further.
Conversation started for buying pre-registered new car from Arnold Clark South Street Glasgow dealer through click and collect. Oh boy! what a mistake it was...
From the start no transparency in the dealing/conversations. Color of the car was changed , delivery dates were not committed, phone calls and mails went unanswered (each clarification required multiple follow ups), no order form was provided (it came after 3 weeks of reserving the car). Net-net they give you nothing in writing. My bad, in spite of all these, I persisted with them with false euphoria of getting the car soon. How wrong I was!
Final act: On the day of pick up-
1. Committed floor mats were missing
2. Damage to the car (chipping of the paint and visible scratch)
3. Very important- I was asked to take delivery without 'Green slip' or proof of registration change (DVLA provides immediate mailer confirmation of change) and taxation. Answer to my query was simple- this is the best we can do and you have to trust Arnold Clark( as funny as it can get). Glad I walked out of the deal.
Post Script; Now they are not refunding my deposit of £99 (pretense is, we have transported the vehicle to the collection point). But how does Arnold Clark expect the customers to buy the incomplete order, damaged vehicle and more importantly without full paper work?
Beware of;
1. Arnold Clark service and commitment
2. The pre-registered vehicles and the route Arnold Clarke takes to push the stock out without paper work. Driving without proper document is illegal !!”
“It seems to be the way AC work. Bend over backwards helping you to find a car and then if you have any issues with it they don't care. My experience was before I had bought it. Waited three weeks for a car to be delivered from another store and "prepped"
Apparently the store does their own prep because once it arrives at another location they would charge through the nose if anything needs fixing ... Charges it's own company? Sounds legit. Anyhoo, it arrives and there's a broken grill which needs fixing .. despite having been prepped in the previous store 👀 hmm. Whilst being "reprepped" they find the silver button on the handbrake had fallen off. Then when I come to view the car, it has rust on the body, an oil leak under the bonnet, the carpets are all plucked and fluffy, there's no parcel shelf and the steering wheel was completely worn down. The engine sounded dodgy too so I knew I didn't want anything to do with the car. It was a 19 plate and 51000 miles which is sus considering we had lockdown too. So I told the salesman I don't want it and explained why, for him to then say "oh well all that can be sorted"
MAAAATE no thanks. I have more trust in the government than you lot.”
“Bought a car that arrived with faulty windscreen wipers and scratch on windscreen - told not mot failure and they would send windscreen wipers. After 2 weeks an engine fault management light had appeared. I have never dealt with such condescending customer service from the manager of Arnold clark sales team or customer service. They wanted me to drive it over an hour way to be looked at even when a mechanic said I shouldn't. They were rude and talked down to me , I was shocked at their attitude. When I rejected the car I had to pay for transportation and they wouldn't refund my £99 deposit so I was out of pocket.”
“My wife’s wheel fell off at 50mph while taking my daughter to nursery. A independent forensic mechanic has inspected the vehicle and found the wheel hub was corroded and not cleaned when Arnold Clark installed new brakes resulting in the wheel nuts working loose. Arnold Clark showed no compassion or were prepared to except responsibility. Three years later and hopefully we are about to get a positive outcome but PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL BUYING OF THIS BUSINESS.”
“Sell cars with clearly no mot or service done then refuse to acknowledge the issues.
Took me 6 months of daily complaining to get this sorted.
Then to add to insult, after telling them to remove all my details from their records, my data is stolen. They obv put as much effort into protecting your data as they do the cars they sell. Avoid at all costs, your better to pay a small bit more than buy from these crooks. Staff are also unhelpful and unfriendly.”
“Bought a car from Arnold shark it needed front and back brakes and front disc, and car was not serviced they said it was the oil was black as night took it to a mechanic and he said it should never have been sold like this.I will certainly not be back to any of there garages”
“Reserved a car online at glasgow south st only to be told there was a mixup and car was in Manchester but would be transported up in day or 2 after 3 days cancelled order and requested deposit refund 12 days later got call to say car had arrived.Told salesman I had bought car elsewhere and still waiting deposit.I have bought 2 cars from Arnold Clark in past but wouldn’t buy from them again.”
“I bought a Suzuki Swift for my wife and son from Arnold Clark in Chesterfield last year and got 2 years free servicing and MOT's. Car is excellent and have no issues with this.
Issue I have is I took the car to Arnold Clark Ford in Shiremoor for the service and MOT on the 21/04/23 and it failed the MOT on a few points, however let me give a background to the weeks leading up to the MOT.
04/04/23 passenger side suspension replaced by Audi Silverlink - when it was replaced I asked the technician to check both sides to see if both needed doing - I was told driver's side was perfect.
14/04/23 car had a product recall at Suzuki Silverlink - this had been booked in for a while, I asked them to do a full check on the car as it had an MOT the following week and I wanted any work completed before it went for an MOT if it did need doing. Car was perfect apart from slightly rusted brake pipes that would need replace within 12months.
21/04/23 - car went to Arnold Clark for the MOT in which I got a call to say the car had failed on suspension and brakes and numerous advisories which they recommended should be changed, tyres, etc. I knew this was rubbish as I had all of them checked out the week before but Arnold Clark wanted £740 to put it right!!!! I was told the suspension on the drivers side was detached and it was dangerous and they wanted £398 to replace. Just so happens that my son who is a trained Audi technician came straight to my house to check it and the suspension was absolutely fine!!! They did not even pick up on the brake pipes even though they said Suzuki did not do a full check - Suzuki did confirm they did carry out an in depth check as they would have wanted to do the work.
I told Arnold Clark not to do the MOT as they I knew what they were saying was incorrect and they were trying to rip people off.
26/04/04 went to Audi for the MOT and it passed without one advisory. I even handed in the list of jobs that Arnold Clark said needed doing and I was told they checked in detail and there was not one issue with what they said needed replacing.
I offered to take the car back for them to have a look at which I did but they wanted me to leave it with them as I could not go in the garage and there was no way was I trusting this garage with the car.
If anyone is taking their car here please beware of what they are trying to do - I was only aware of all of the points as it had all been checked in the weeks prior to it going here. Alot of people may have just told them to carry out the work as people work on trust but these guys can not be trusted.
My view is they were just trying to take advantage and rip me off and the way this was handled with the service manager left a lot to be desired as she was not interested in what had been carried out prior.”
“It truly beggars belief that this bunch of fools carry 4.6/5 stars on this site.
Their incompetence is as deep as the ocean and as massive as space itself.
Since signing on the dotted line for my otherwise brilliant Peugeot 208 GTI I have never been more ignored, fobbed off, or downright confused by any other companies ability to be so RELENTLESSLY useless. Their aftersales is shocking. No one returns calls even for basic warranty work. It’s basically a case of ‘buy the car and eff off!’
In the 15 months of owning my great car the only ball and chain has been AC and their hopeless business. They have my money now but once paid off I will always aim to stay more than 1000 miles from their dealerships. I live in regret on a daily basis.”
“Problem with air suspension valves and they dont cover, told me was only consumables they dont cover,, utterly useless do not buy far better warrantys out there”
“I don't want to bother you with specific information about my experience. All I want to say is if you bought a car from Arnold Clark and you need help under the warranty, expect for zero help from them. They will avoid your phone calls and ignore your emails. After many times to get in contact with them, I ended up repairing the car at my own cost. The only reason I chose Arnold Clark was the long time trade and I thought it's a reputable company. But I couldn't be more wrong. If you want to avoid disappointment please make yourself a favor and don't give them your hard earned money. I also advise my family members, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, neighbors to avoid them at all costs. Maybe there are some honest people within Arnold Clark company, but the company management is way below expectations. Especially in Volvo Inverness branch. My honest advice for you is make yourself a favor and stay away from them.”
“ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS WASTE OF TIME!!! Found the perfect car spoke to sales person and was sent personalised video of car which was exactly what I wanted so reserved it with the £99 payment which apparently secures car for 48 hrs while waiting to secure finance. Rang back less than 24 hrs later for update only to be told they have just sold the car to someone else.. I still have the car reserved. I forwarded all the confirmation and emails. They just dont give a $hi@. Do yeself a favour and find a better dealership who value their customers.”
