“I spent hours on the phone trying to get through to SSE. When I did they were appalling and I got passed from department to department, trying to solve my query.
They never provided me with meter readings for my gas bill and whilst I was still trying to obtain, passed the bill to Capital Resolve, a debt collection agency.
I've paid the bill with an additional fee as I don't have the time and energy to pursue.
One star is too much, avoid this despicable company at all costs.”
“The recent 5 star reviews are obviously fake. Put through to horrible, aggressive women in South Africa who don't listen and talk over you. They also contracdict themselves constantly. I was sent a bill for £0 and then new bills started again for the previous amount based on a property I haven't owned for over a year. They told me they needed a meter reading then found out from a different aggressive woman that they did have a meter reading. Sadly the energy companies out there are just lawless and don't care. This was a properly horrible experience and I inherited them as a supplier because the previous supplier went bust. This for a property that was vacant when the switch was carried out.”

“So this is my 2nd time here complaining about SSE again I been emailing back and forward, calling them everything I can since November when they switch my gas pay as you go meter to a credit one and now won’t tell me how much I owe all I been doing is trying to pay so I don’t end up with a huge bill but they won’t let me pay or put me back on a pay as you go meter I called up many different provider and they was lot more helpful but because of these pandemic happening I can’t switch as of yet please if anything planning on going to SSE please don’t they are not helpful and full of lies”

My property terminated SSE supply in March 2021. Bill settled within a month, thinking case closed for good. Little that I know a year later, May 2022 I received a big invoice demanding a whole year of consumptions which was not even supply by them . Good try SSE!
Spent 1.5 hours on the phone transferring from 1 department to another to close the account. That's how efficient this company who provides the UK nation power n gas.”
“Dreadful company, staff are incompetent. Couldn't even get my email address right. Still haven't got an account set up. Bill arrived estimated, yet we have phoned in the readings.
Booked a smart meter fitting appointment stayed in for 6 hours. No phone call. Nobody contacted us & nobody turned up. So cancelled not even sure they could get the readings right. Dreadful.”
“I can only reiterate the comments made in other reviews. I have spent hours on the phone trying to get through to their Customer Service Department without any success. Online complaint forms go on unanswered. Worst company ever and it seems to coincide with being merged/taken over by OVO”

“Experience with sse is beyond a joke.
I have a bill that’s on a closed account which is over 3 years old.
I had a payment plan set in place for 2 years then because my daughter was in hospital having a back operation one payment wasn’t made so they cancelled the payment plan without me knowing at all!! Until 2 weeks later had a red letter saying I owe over £1000 now!
I called many many times and they would hang up after 45 minute holds to get told they would only accept DD doing forward to set one up. Yet paid by bank transfer for 2 years!! Spoke to them again after continuing to make payment via bank transfer that they will be sending it on to debt collector even though it’s being paid because it’s not via DD. So ot will be passed on even though I am paying each month! This company is the worst I have ever dealt with and should not getting away with operating this way! I have contacted citizens advice who said what they are doing is illegal yet continue to do it this way!! Human empathy doesn’t come natural to there’s people!”

“So poor it's laughable. I was having bills demanding thousands after I moved in to a new flat. Three times I phoned to try to sort it out. The last time I was on hold for 2 hours. The service from the operators was terrible. One girl could hardly understand my postcode, the next operator told me not to worry, even though I was receiving debt collection letters! Now I can't log in to my account to give a meter reading as it's been over 3 months since I moved. They have given me a £900 bill for 3 months and I haven't even been living in the flat!”
“What a useless shambles of a company. I sold my house in June 2021 and finalised both gas and electric accounts. They keep sending me "final bills" for electric and gas usage after the property was sold, and every time I go through the same rigmarole of explaining the accounts have been closed and providing proof of final payments. Despite this, lo and behold another "final bill' arrives a few months later. These useless clowns have even referred debt collection agencies to me. For the love of god avoid this company like the plague.”
“Like all reviews below. SSE and OVO are run like the mafia,M with party crackheads whom we're lucky to have even got them out of bed or from wherever they last crashed out. They will be the ones owing 100's on DD's and threatened by 'debt' collectors soon. An absolute farce of a company. The stress they cause affects customers, extended families and friends and is even fatal.”
