The holiday cottage was called Bourlach in Mallaig Highlands., the location was 100% however the accommodation was filthy. It was in actual fact an Airbnb which I would never book., Food still left in freezer personal books beside the beds, long hair in shower trays.. sinks in bedrooms with water that did not drain away after many days., only booked 5 days left after 4 . You could say why not leave earlier thank goodness we didn’t as Sykes cottages could not and would not have been able to rectify this one ., and if anyone has been to the Highlands it’s not a place that you can just drive away from that easily although beautiful it’s miles away.. and as check in was 18:00 hrs on a Sunday impossible I am sure you would agree .. anyway no joy from Sykes despite a conversation I have been left feeling that the issues raised were blown out of proportion. I am truly sorry that I have had to be negative on forums however people need to be aware of this company .SYKES

In July this year , we booked a dog friendly cottage in Yorkshire and we took out Sykes cottages Insurance. Our dog took very unwell the week we were due to go and the vet advised us not to travel. We phoned to cancel which didn’t seem a problem but when calling their Insurance Co , we were told no claim available as the dog getting ill is not covered . Nothing Dog Friendly about this Company. No refund and we had a £4000 vet bill . A very expensive month and wouldn’t recommend Sykes to anyone . They have never replied to any of our letters either.

We booked 23/06/23 to stay at Muddykins Cottage in Devon for one week from Saturday 26/08/23 – Saturday 02/09/23. On Saturday 26/08/23 at 12.30pm I received a telephone call from a Sykes advisor to inform us that we can no longer stay at Muddykins Cottage as it has been “damaged”. We were given no further explanation and were told we would be emailed alternative available properties. We were already in Devon, having driven three hours from our home with a packed car, two children and one dog. The three alternative properties sent were in mid Wales (a further four-hour drive), a house in Dartmoor without a garden and a cottage on Exmoor. When I explained these weren’t a match for what we had booked, I was advised to “pull over to search on the Sykes website to find an alternative property”. As you can imagine, this was extremely difficult driving in rural Devon with poor reception. After three hours parked up in a car park, over twenty phone calls to Sykes, no further details or apology and an emailed list of “one bedroomed alternative properties” we were eventually advised there was no similar property available for our holiday. We then had to drive the three-hour journey back home with no apology, no further explanation and no holiday. As we had been let down at such short notice and on August Bank Holiday weekend we were unable to book anything else. We contacted the representative of the owner Muddykins Cottage, who had been advised by Sykes that we had been found an alternative property. They had no idea the short notice we had been given, the lack of an alternative holiday nor the fact we had received no apology. They were horrified we had spent nine hours in a car travelling with children and a dog / parked up trying to liaise very unsuccessfully with Sykes. We then contacted Sykes by Messenger on 29/08/23 and was told by Connor that this would be looked into and someone would contact us. To date we have heard nothing. To say this was an awful experience for our family was an understatement. We have never experienced such atrocious lack of customer service or empathy from any company.

Skye cottages only cater to landlords. We who book their cottages by paying large amounts have no rights or no say. We booked the Dower house at Melchbourne through Skye. The description was false on their website regarding the rooms, we had such great difficulty accessing internet through out the house, the house is old and stairs make such loud noises which makes it impossible for kids to sleep at night. We left the house then receive an email from Skye saying there’s some black mark on the kitchen top, we inform them that the mark was already there and we saw it when we arrived hence we deliberately did not clean as we never made it. Thee charged us 150£ just to wipe it off .. wtf . We paid 700 quid for 3 nights and then they charge us 150 just for some mark which they have no evidence of that we made it/ landlord never took any photos or videos before our arrival and has no proof that we did it/ does that mean when we arrival at property we are meant to check every corner and take a. Video to defend us in the end ? There is no appeal , no complaint policy , nothing that you can do. Basically you are at their mercy. You leave the property and they charge you any amount and without any proof whatsoever. What a money making business. Make sure you book air BnB instead of Skye cottages

e booked a week at booking.com. Up to 4 weeks I had, due to personal circumstances, to cancel the booking. No refund, no voucher, nothing... The total booking of E 537 was gone They might have suggested to book another week, a voucher, we got nothing... just a headache of the amount we paid and was vanished like that

Booked a lodge at great glen water park Scotland. It was not very good with a lot of faults.Contacted Sykes(only replied after putting the details on Facebook). They contacted the owner who presumably sorted it out.We were offered a reimbursement which was fine ,3 to 5 days Elle said (I have all the emails etc ).Still waiting.Called them and left details on call back, still waiting .The only use a no reply email address, which is a lot of good.SO BE AWARE OF THIS COMPANY .

We stayed at Garthgate in coniston for the unbelievable cost of £5,000 .When we arrived the velux windows of this smart house would not open as the battery packs were flat .We complained to the owner that we could not open the windows but he wasn't interested. The house was so hot so we pulled a handle to open the windows manually and a screw came loose .We put the screw back in and the window opened ok .At no point were we told not to open the windows manually .Three days after returning from our holiday sykes took £1,000 from our account to pay for the window we apparently damage. This is a total fabrication as the window was not broken but sykes would not listen and took the side of the owner .I asked sykes how we were meant to open the windows if the battery packs were dead but they ignored us .Avoid sykes and Garthgate coniston at all cost unless u want your hard earned money taken in seconds

Customer service is non existent we have booked multiple cottages with Sykes over the last 5 years & I realised that the next holiday we have booked for November is unsuitable for someone not good on their legs no mention of the ladder like stairs in the descriptions so I cant get upstairs to bed or to use the only loo & Sykes couldn't care less all I wanted to do was swap accommodations to a suitable one & not a chance….not a problem Sykes Hoseasons were happy to help & have now got my custom for multiple bookings each year. Not the good Yorkshire family run business it started off as

Just had a holiday booked through Sykes. Upon returning home looked at my emails to find that they had taken £101 from us for a tap repair which the owner said we had broken. We flatly deny we broke the tap. They would not listen to us and believed the owner who told a pack of lies. The property was awful. They obviously don't check them before advertising them. Their customer service is awful. Will never use them again.

Booked a property in Anglesey a year in advance, with over 1third deposit, due to a change in personal circumstances, we requested a cancellation in January 2023,some 7 months before the holiday start date, the reaction of Sykes was we will contact the owners and come back to you, some 48 hours later we were advised that the property was jointly owned by 2 partners, 1 was it appeared to allow us to cancel, but the other owner would not agree, this went back and forward for a week, in the end , Sykes advised if we still wanted to cancel. We would have to forfeit £1380 pounds as a penalty My wife and I decided to continue with this holiday, as we did not want to pay the penalty fee On arrival at the property, 1 of the owners, asked when the rest of our party was arriving, we then had a long discussion re our original request to cancel etc It appears that we have been mislead, by both Sykes and the owners, as each is blaming the other Will never ever book with this company again

Not surprised to hear poor reviews. Customer Service very disappointing. Not sure what they do for their money but not inspecting property or ensuring up to a reasonable standard. Last week got back from a week in a rural holiday cottage in Suffolk. No hot water for a week, dishwasher broken, bedroom roof leaked water in heavy rain , carpets had dog hair on them . The worst obviously no hot water as old cottage just had a tiny bath in a sloping bathroom, no shower. So boiling kettle for washing selves and in kitchen every day. Owner did send in electrician and plumber but couldn't be fixed and led to believe problems on going. Sykes offered us all our money back after 3 days if we left straight away but we had a hotel in Hertfordshire booked for the weekend and we live in Devon. So we were offered 4 unsuitable properties either in a town or with no dedicated parking. We decided to stay put and were led to believe we would get compensation. The owner refused claiming apparently we were exaggerating. She stopped answering my calls and Sykes took days to get a reply. They would not give me her email and told me to take it up elsewhere. So annoying as this really spoiled our holiday. I could not get them to see until the cottage is fixed it should not be let out. We were not the first without hot water. Good way for the owner to save on electricity!!!

Beware of this company. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. 72 hours for a manager to respond that’s what the customer service department told me. !! Last week had no reply whatsoever. Rang yesterday told same story so 10 hours in would anyone care to have a small wager that they don’t return my call. Absolutely shocking. Can’t begin to imagine what would happen if you had a problem while on holiday. We haven’t even made it to the accommodation as yet . 😩😩😩. So sad we are being treated in this awful way after being regular customers for over many years. Come on Sykes treat your customers with respect!!

Shocking customer service who are happy to take your money and run! They do not represent or protect the customer from any property miss representations or take any responsibility. They expect the customer to know everything about the property before booking, when this is Sykes job to be accurate and honest! Upon arrival Property stunk of wet dogs (attempted to mask with 4 air fresheners). Customer service said well the property accepts pets! They suggested they could look at getting a cleaner if I was to take photos and send them to them to prove the smell was an issue... What??? There was also a used dummy and toothbrush on the floor along with copious amounts of flies. Customer services again wanted photos to lodge a complaint and contact the property owner. Property was Located 5m from a very loud and heavy single carriage way, which had trucks, tractors and commuters. Property vibrates with some of the heavy trucks. Customer services said, we state you "may hear some noise" and it was my job to establish the specific location of a the holiday cabin on a holiday park and to know the local information! I'm sorry this is the responsibility of Sykes Cottages to establish the precise location, local knowledge and represent properties accurately! I advised that I would not be staying upon arrival and requested a relocation... they refused... I requested a full refund and I'll find alternative accommodation, they refused. I requested a partial refund, they refused. My eyes and my 2 year old daughters eyes flared up with the smell. My 36 week pregnant wife would not be able to rest or sleep with the noise level. Disaster! I will never use this company again to look for a holiday and will advise all to beware. I've stayed at many hotels across the World and if I've ever had a problem they have always been resolved or compensated Paid for 4 nights stay and we didn't stay one! Customer service both disappointing and disgusting. Profit not customer service driven
