An £700 Apple iPhone Warranty Lesson – Buyer Beware On 28 March 2023 I bought an iPhone 13 from Argos for £700. Up to then I’d always bought my Apple products from Apple directly. In June 2024 (15 months later) the phone died completely. The phone was in ‘as new’ condition externally and hadn’t been subjected to any trauma. I took it back to Argos. They told me that, unlike Apple and John Lewis who provide 24 months warranty, their warranty only lasts 12 months. As a result they weren’t prepared to replace it. I took it to Apple. They tried to carry out a diagnostic check but it was completely dead. They told me that it was not financially viable to repair it. I took it to an independent electronics company on the high street to get a report. They managed to get it going but there had been a motherboard manufacturing failure that meant it wasn’t financially viable to repair. I have a report to this effect but it appears to be meaningless. The true worth of an organisation isn’t how they treat their customers when things are going well, but the experience they provide when things go wrong. I now know that as an individual I mean absolutely nothing to Argos. When I tried to reason with them all I got quoted from the store representative was their legal interpretation. I have spent thousands of pounds with Argos in the past, but as it stands I will never buy from them again. I have made multiple journeys at my cost, and spent hours of my own time over several months, trying to get a resolution. I personally don’t think that paying £700 for a premium item that fails after 15 months, and is then deemed worthless, is acceptable. I am sharing my experience to try and prevent anyone else from making the same mistake I did when I chose to buy my iPhone from Argos.

I bought a Halloween product through Facebook. I wasn't even aware it was being sold through Argos. I never received an email confirmation of the sale or anything. The products (I bought 2), arrived late on November 6th, and were completely fake and not as advertised. My credit card company advised me to reach out to Argos (who the charge was for), as part of the dispute. Argos has been nothing but argumentative and combative. This is most certainly a "buyer beware" situation that I got suckered into. Bottom line, they sell cheap Chinese products, and then substitute them for even cheaper Chinese products to take advantage of you.

You say that you value your customers but...... Below is the reply that I got to a review I left after receiving a damaged item. I got in touch via the link provided (Facebook) only to be told "we don't deal with these requests here, wait for a reply". I repeated the fact that this was my reply and I was then told "I'm placing you in the queue that deal with these requests". I've been waiting for an hour and a half so far....You say that you value customers but the way that you treat them is contrary to this. I recently purchased a children's slide from Argos for £50, paying a total of £53.95 with delivery. Not only was the product never delivered, but after contacting customer care, I was told there was a "logistics issue" and instructed to re-order. They promised my original order would be canceled, and I'd get a refund. A few days later, I only received £50 back, meaning the delivery charge wasn't refunded. After following up with customer care again, they finally refunded the remaining amount. However, I then noticed that the same product was now being listed for £90! When I contacted them, I was told the product was out of stock at the time of my order, but somehow they let me purchase it anyway! As a big retailer, it's completely unprofessional for them to list items they don’t have in stock and then refuse to honor the original price, especially when the error was on their side. They refused to match the £50 price I initially paid and simply said the promotion had ended. Horrible experience from start to finish, and I won't be shopping with Argos again. Avoid at all costs!

Contacted customer services but could not resolve my enquiry so I contacted the CEO Simon Roberts via email, he passed it onto one of his team who was from the start was very condescending and would not try to sort the situation out. No doubt if Mr Roberts passed it on to be dealt with on his behalf he must have seen the interaction between my self and this person and okayed his response. So if this is allowed by those at the top then this is extremely worrying.

Would give 0 if I could. Orderd a TV unit, tried to change delivery date and got mugged off. Once Argos hand over your consignment to the delivery company they then have no responsibility, couldn't even tell me which company is handling my parcel. Would not order large items from Argos again.

AVOID ARGOS AT ALL COSTS. I am not technical but purchased an ipad and returned it same day to Colne as didn’t realise I needed a cellular version and the Wi-Fi version couldn’t be used outside of home, it certainly wasn't clear to me in the description which should have said if you want to install a sim you need the Cellular version or this model does not have a sim tray. Took it back, exactly as it was when we collected it and they refused to change it or provide refund. We were told to come back next day and speak with Manager who flatly refused because the seal had been removed, it didn't have a seal when we collected it but she said it was Argos policy and she didn't really want to know. I understand if the item had been switched on and used but it was really in the same condition as we received it. Nobody from Argos wants to know so now stuck with an ipad which is not fit for purpose. I will NEVER buy anything from Argos again and will be raising this with Trading Standards as it was sold to me without any type of seal and the description wasn’t clear enough to enable me to make an informed decision on the purchase. I didn’t even know they had a seal, there is no evidence of one! Will also be telling anyone who listens about the disgusting non existent customer care Argos provides. iPad going for sale on Marketplace at an obvious financial loss to me. VERY ANNOYED!! Argos are just not understanding that the box was open when I received it!!

Every time I buy anything electrical from Argos it is faulty.Bought a printer last year, that was broken and had to go back.Bought a phone with an answer machine today, yep you've guessed it,all packed up and ready to.go back on Tuesday. Mind you I should have learned, Argos only sell shoddy goods. I believe they don't sent their faulty goods back to the manufacturer they put them back in stock and resell them.

Brought a Samsung tv from store. Many reviews have mentioned that the remotes and the response is slow. Customers have told Argos this on their webpage. When I went to return the tv after trying it. I found it slow to respond. Tv was not broken but as other customers had found same issue. Argos would not let me return it as they said the box is open and they can’t sell it. This is only after 5 days. They told me I should have done my research and I should have checked returns policy. Only if item is faulty. Because I said it’s not broken it just not suitable. Even though I have returned it with all packaging and clean. Still I am not entitled to any exchange or credit voucher as an option. Argos want feedback all the time but don’t listen to a customer when they give it. It was very patronising to have them say you should have done your research. I asked if they get people complaining about not being able to return something if the box has been opened and they said all the time. So they are aware that customers are not happy with this. When we mentioned Amazon and curry’s they said well that’s them not us. So they are not interested in hearing how other company successfully handle returns and feedback. Even apple will return a product if you change your mind and it’s been brought within a certain time frame. Mine was only 7 days. Even though I mentioned the remote of the tv and response is slow. They said we take your first response which is I said the tv is not broken I have just changed my mind it’s not suitable for the person I brought it for who has vascular dementia. They where not interested. They seem more concerned with keeping the money they have made from you for the sale then having long term customer loyalty. Well it’s not worth buying anything from this company. I have seen reviews saying how they are so difficult about the returns. This is reputation they have forged out. I found what was worse the staff had no empathy or compassion for the fact that the company had taken £219.00 from me. They had a patronising tone with how it was my fault for not researching the tv even when I said why sell a tv that has poor remote response and then not listen to what customers are telling you, or even investigate the feedback. They didn’t care. They seemed to enjoy the fact they had got away with it. Treated us like we were in the wrong and were stupid and ignorant for not reading about the return. Would have been better if they had told me at point of sale you can not return if you change your mind and open it. The item needs to be broken, or faulty. Slow remote response is a feature for Samsung tv then and Argos are happy to take the money for it and keep selling them. So is there any point for this feedback as no one will read it. Argos are not interested at all. The staff in crayford showed me this today. I will never shop or buy anything in Argos. I would never recommend. Even if they change I won’t ever give them a chance for a sale. There are better retailers and who care about keeping customers loyalty I would pay more for there better service it’s worth it. Goodbye Argos good riddens.
