Having read the reviews below I can see I am not alone in my experience. My daughter drove a 180 mile round trip to collect me after my motorcycle punctured a rear tyre. The alternative would have been to wait over six hours for the RAC to respond - their contractor finally arrived at 1am and phoned me to tell me. Thank you Auto Vehicle Specialists from Kidderminster - you are an example that RAC would do best to emulate. I wrote complaining to RAC CEO David Hobday and received an email response from a Customer Care (sic) Officer that said "I want to assure you that we take matters such as these very seriously", so seriously in fact that it will take up to 20 working days to respond. Presumably they have so many complaints to deal with and/or don't care about their customers. Suitable adjectives for the RAC are "woeful", "shameful", "incompetent", "ineffective", "atrocious" - I could go on but nothing will change. They will continue to put profit - and Mr Hobday's salary & bonus - ahead of customer care.

I cancelled a policy because I sold that car. When I took out a new policy for a new car, the money I spent went on a cancellation fee unbeknownst to me and I'm due a month later for my NEW yearly membership. Ned Kelly's not dead!!

After car started smoking under bonnet on M6toll, the RAC mechanic called Paul arrived after only 35 mins. Made a temporary fix and followed us right to our front door. Brilliant service!

Waited over 7 hours in 28 degrees with no public conveniences. Still no arrival had to call private company to get rescued. Received useless automated texts messages for the first 4 hours. Was lied to over the phone on several occasions. When i made a formal complaint - they thanked me for my feedback!! What a joke of a company which needs serious changes operationally.

Just a terrible service. The initial person turned up quite quickly and let us know we would need to be towed. After that is when it all went wrong. Zero communication until I spotted the truck that couldn't find us. Then found out the truck wouldn't take our dog in the cabin (which I now understand is common). We had made it clear at the start that we had a dog. Then also turned out that we were only being taken an hour down the road and not home (I have full coverage). Seemed that only when we were dropped off did they order the next leg. 4 hours later there was no update. Took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get through. Only to be told that the contract had been rejected. Perhaps make sure you can provide your service for the price we all pay. I have Onward Travel so they suggested a taxi. When I asked what happens with the car they suggested I leave the keys with a shop or on a wheel. They didn't seem keen when I asked if they accept responsibility if the car is stolen. I asked for it to be escalated and for someone to contact me. Obviously did not happen. In the end I paid a ridiculous sum to get a private contractor to take me home. I arranged something in 5 minutes that RAC couldn't manage in over 12 hours.

DO NOT USE THE RAC AT ALL COSTS. …Unless you want to wait in a dangerous position on a country road for 14 hours without food or water and then, during this period, get told various lies and unfulfilled promises. We even had to read out their policies to them to remind them what we were entitled to.. ‘roads are bad’ (there is no traffic shown at all on the roads) ‘it’s a busy day’ ‘covid’ … every mundane lie they can train their phone staff to come up with. Save yourself experiencing one of the most frustrating days of your life and avoid RAC at all costs.

The question 'what went wrong' The answer to that is everything. Went wrong. Lone female and I called to report breakdown at 5.30 pm. Was told that ETA would be about 3 hours because of exceptionally high levels of traffic now the country is out of lockdown. The first of many lies and rubbish comments they made. Received a few generic texts saying they were going EVERYTHING to respond but due to COVID etc blah blah blah there are delays. I was then informed that 'one of their trusted partner's would attend. I should have requested a copy of the said trusted partner's DBS certificate so that I could feel comfortable that they were trustworthy. But no - I just wanted to get home. After 3 hours and twenty minutes some disinterested person turned up and said he couldn't fix the car and arranged a pick up truck. Was told it would arrive in about one and a half hours. It's now 9.10 pm. I called RAC yet again to complain but would you know it got cut off (they hung up) Trusted partner recovery truck arrived at 11.45 but had to unload another car he had recovered for RAC to load my car and then tow the other recovered vehicle. Was told by this driver that RAC always call them out when RAC can't provide the service that RAC members pay for - basically RAC are not fit for purpose. I waited for 6 hours and fifteen minutes for a recovery vehicle and arrived home at 12.15 am. I will cancel my membership tomorrow - as will my daughter and I shall tell as many people as possible about the appalling lack of customer care that the RAC so obviously have. Do NOT blame your incompetence and obvious financial greed on COVID, we have all been there and are not stupid ! Buy more patrol vehicles, employ more patrol drivers, deliver a service that justifies your fees. The RAC are not fit for purpose and should not be allowed to continue in business - they are effectively obtaining money by deceit. I will join th AA or any other breakdown provider tomorrow, even one in France - or Hungary, they would provably get to me quicker. Don't ever choose this shambles of a company if you want to feel safe and supported, they just don't care.

We just moved to Pageland and happen to see RAC right past the PO when we went there. We stopped in at RAC and Stephanie greeted us, she was absolutely awesome. She was so helpful and did not pressure us at all. Gave us great pricing and looking forward to doing more business with her.

Left for 4 hours on the side of the m5 Couldnt get over safety barrier due to dense bushes Many calls to rac...false promises etc police came after 2hrs and called highways to tow us to next services because of dangerous position...recovery came within 1/2 hour..paid £150 to highways ....expected driver to then unload us so we could get hold of rac again to arrange recovery to home....(this is what highways told us would happen )driver informed us that he was doing that on behalf of rac !! Got us home..never said a word ...used his phone while driving....all very strange ? Or a good way for third party companies to earn extra ?? Who knows... Now to try and reclaim £150 from rac...not holding my breath...

I broke down today 23/7/2021 on the… I broke down today 23/7/2021 on the A4042, phoned the Rac and it took them ages to find my location after much explaining on the phone, after they had found my location they passed me on to a driver. They did not tell the driver my location, so I had to explain again for 10 mins again. After the breakdown driver understood my location, he said sorry that is a Vulnerable situation I should phone 101 and then get back to them. I phoned 101 and was on a 9 person call waiting. So I phone Rac again. They had not stored my location so had to go over it again. In between them trying to find out where I was I was cut off. Thank fully a friend pulled up in a works van and we all picked up a 796lb Harley Davidson fxstc softail up and put it in the back of his van. Costing me 30£ for his help. The Rac are about the worse break down device in my estimations now and I would never recommend them to man or beast

APPALLING, Shameful, Disgusting service. I had a puncture on the rear tyre of my motorcycle and at 13.35 rang the RAC for help after i couldn't get help anywhere else. They said there would be a delay(ok) they didn't say there would be a 10.5hr delay. Oh sorry you were lost in the system they said, we'll get this resolved ASAP they said. That was at the 8hr mark. I spotted an RAC van and went to ask the couple whose car it was how long they had waited, 45min was the answer. How the hell is this possible, 10.5 HRS Jeezus. If i could leave a minus star i would.

Appalling service. Left for 4 hours on the side of a dual carriageway in the middle of the night with 3 small children on board. In the end I paid £240 to get a local recovery service to get me back on the road as no one could give me an answer at RAC of when they could get to us. They blame it’s busy as we have come out of lockdown but come on! RAC sold me the policy pre lockdown they said they could cope in “40 mins” then what’s changed? There is less people driving on the road as ever as many are working from home now. The broad and short is they are not paying for enough patrols on the road either due to squeezing profits or they are in trouble...

Broke down at Roadside premium cover advised 3 hours, simply not good enough pay for battery cover and 1 other car,in previous years 2016 for a dead battery / electrical fault they arrived in 20mins and fitted a battery in another 20mins shocking service and you are talking to nobody's who work from home and sub the job out to an RAC trusted partner, no confidence they will turn up

Absolutely awful. I broke down on an unlit country road at 7.30pm, no one else around. Abandoned the car at 11.00pm in complete darkness and cold, as RAC still hadn’t turned up. As a lone female I felt unsafe. RAC simply don’t get it. Complaining is pointless. RAC offer no commitment to reaching you in ANY timeframe and many others have had similar experiences where vulnerable people are left in terrible situations for 8 hours or overnight. There’s an arrogance to the company who see nothing wrong in providing a truly awful service. Please avoid, it really is for the best.

We broke down on A303 Thursday 12 August 1.15 pm Rac asked us to call police as we were in dangourous position. We sat there for 6 and half hours ,Rac never came ,kept saying they would but didnt come. Police recovered us off A303 at 7 pm. Rac now refusing to pay £150.00police charge, and Recovering our vehicle home from Chard. Allso no help we were stranded, luckily freinds came to our rescue from Devon. From Thursday night to saturday night on phone to Rac to try and sort out situation Which came to nothing just let down after let down. Saturday 14 August we had to get train home 6 and half hour journey back and a cost of £130.00 which i will allso try and get back from Rac. I been a customer of Rac for 30+ years Im shocked and disgusted how we been treated. Dreadfull company .
