What an appalling service! Having been with RAC for years I had my renewal quote that was nearly double the previous year even though I had not called them out. After ringing and speaking to a very nice Lady I thought it was all sorted and I was happy to continue using them. New policy details arrive, all fine except I pay monthly and the paper work showed 1 payment not monthly direct debit. After being passed around to 4 different people I speak to another Lady who assures me No its definitely X amount each month I ask for it in writing. This confirmation did not arrive before payment date and low and behold the whole amount came out of my account!! Rang RAC as soon as I noticed to yet again be passed from pillar to post then after nearly an hour on the phone they arrange a refund but have to set up a new policy in order to get all my money back in one go. I was happy to do this but.....another 30 mins later and they cant set it up saying my card details are being declined. So I ring my bank ( Another long call due to them being busy) Everything is fine with my card no blocks on account. RAC call back another 15mins and still can not set up the policy unless I use someone elses account. Now that would not be an issue if I didnt mind someone else knowing my business or IF there was someone else in my household who could pay over the phone. So that was that, Oh they could call their IT team but that would mean more time on hold and probably be the same outcome as they dont seem to know what they are doing. I am now looking for a different company to get my breakdown cover from as CAN NOT TRUST RAC to do what they say. Definitely wouldn not recommend to my worst enemy.

RAC - Key Lost Please note that NOT all RAC services included within your package are actually provided. It did happen with me when I lost my remote key for Vauxhall Corsa during afternoon walk in our neighbourhood in Colchester and unfortunately I did not have any spare copy for this key. Following this incident, I immediately phoned the RAC service and requested them to provide a new key. For my biggest surprise, they had turned my request down based on if I don't have an "RAC Orange key tag, along with Membership number", then I am not eligible to claim for this service. This was the most absurd excuse I ever heard in my whole life and I was so frustrated that I ought to cancel their Direct-Debit with immediate effect, after four consecutive years with RAC (my membership No.: 200110001923843, monthly payment: £10.20). However, I managed to find an alternative key-supplier to make a new key and did cost me (£130). For sincerity, RAC helped me twice when the battery of my car was dead and they revive it and when one of the tyres was flatted and they pumped it with some air. This is just to notify everyone that not everything mentioned in your contract with a recovery company is truly going to be serviced; as when it comes to the high-cost service, some recovery companies will try to evade it. Please be vigilant. Kind regards, Noah

I was paying just over £27 a month and asked to put business class on my insurance and now have to pay over £40 a month ???? I am a carer and on minimum wage and only drive to and from my place of work and you have nearly doubled my premiums. I saw your advert saying RAC EVERYBODY NEEDS A HERO ?? Not knowing RAC stands for Rip A Carer off. I will be looking elsewhere now I think.

My policy is expiring in July so I called them in April just to make it clear I dont want to auto renew. My conversation with RAC rep went like this - I dont want the renew to automatically kick in, can you tick the box on your system and send me confirmation email please. - OK but we have to charge you 4.16 for this - WHAT?! I am simply informing you that I will not be signing the new contract... - Yes but there was big sign on the website when you signed up and now you must pay... - Can I get confirmation email that there is no auto-renew and also showing this payment? - Of course! - Ok , charge my c.card and send me email. I received email notification stating that my documents were updated on RAC portal so I logged on to see what basically is an invoice document for £4.16 stating that: 'You have selected to pay for your cover by automatic yearly renewal by credit card' I got pretty angry at that time! Called them immediately demanding explanation - got assurance there will be no auto-renew. Today (11/06/2016) they sent an email: 'We're pleased to provide your renewal documents for continued cover and service. We've stored them securely and you can now view them online.' WHAAATTT! You inform me that you are going to take almost £200 in July for a service I already told you I dont require?! Called them again, their rep stated that what I received in the first time was a price quote not invoice! Well, I dont think it was a price quote because I can see this on my bank statement - no reply to that. Then he confirmed to make sure I dont have auto-renewal and paraphrased - sth sth ... and I am cancelling your policy! WHAT?! I didnt ask you to cancel my policy! I want the policy to run out and I dont want to auto sign to the new one! Can you send me confirmation email please? You will get confirmation email in 48 hr. Lets see.

Be aware of RAC's very dubious business practices - they will auto-enrol you to be able to repeatedly take money from your credit card. I moved house and they managed to get over £250 from me before I realised what was happening. Despite not having used their services ( or even realising I was a member!) they have a very standard refusal to provide any refunds which is clearly designed to protect their income. Avoid joining the RAC and if you are a member check they haven't tied you in to their auto-renewal scam.

Just found out that the RAC have been taking money from my account for breakdown cover for the last three years despite, my no longer having the car, not having lived at that address for the last three years and having paid another provider for this cover for the last three years Sacked the RAC three years ago when they left me stranded ( lone female on my way to the port at Portsmouth ) When I spoke to their customer service man ( Darrell ) he stated that despite not having lived at the address for the last three years not owning the car registered for the last three years " there was no way that I would get my money back ) BEWARE the RAC is rubbish with its service and customer service would not touch it again with a barge pole plan to take my complaint further,,,,,

A really nice man helped me and Rita get home last week. It was cold and my car wouldn't start after we came out of Tesco. He was with us quickly and it turns out the battery had stopped working while we were shopping (l think Rita had left the light on in the car, but l won't say anything to her). p.s. Thank you to my Grandson for helping me add this.

I tried to start my car this morning and nothing happened. I assumed I needed a new battery and almost went to buy one but just thought I'd call the RAC out first. The Patrol guy was there within half an hour and identified that a lead had disconnected in the electrics somewhere. He re-connected it and got my engine started, saving me around £80 on a new battery. Credit where credits due!

Had a tyre problem this morning. The RAC man was with me in about 30 minutes and had the tyre off, quickly, took me to get another and then fitted it. Really nice man, very polite and a good service. Thank you, it was really appreciated.

At around 10.30am on 16/10/2014 my we called the RAC as our luton van's wheel bearing failed. The patrol man arrived about an hour later, confirming the fault. He booked a recovery, a contractor from C&S Motors, who took over 2 hours to arrive. Despite being clear the van was a twin wheel and partially loaded, the driver announced the van was too big for his 7.5 ton truck. Four hours later (18.30) I called the RAC to find the job had been closed due to a truck attending. So we waited for a second truck to arrive, at 22.00, twelve houurs after the first call. from then things got MUCH worse. Despite what happened with the first truck, the second truck was the same make and model. The driver started loading our van, and the truck's body twisted, tipping the van sideways, spilling it's petrol over the road and pavement. I had to call the fire brigade. They took 2 hours to right the truck's body, to a point that the van could be removed from the truck. When it was off it was clear the van had suffered damage and was leaning badly. Another truck was called, this time a 16 tonner. When loaded, the van overhung the pavement, to the extent a patrolman had to escort the truck. By this time it was 01.00. We eventually got to bed at 04.00. Over the following days, I was passed from one dept to another, left on hold and cut off, all on an 0800 number which is not free from a mobile! I even emailed the CEO of the RAC, and didn't even get a reply from his secretary. An engineer's report revealed damage to the suspension, chassis and wheel hub, to the tune of £1,200. After a week, I recieved an email denying responsibility from the RAC, and I am in the process of resorting to legal action to recover the cost of repairs. Recovery industry standard practise is, if a casualty vehicle is loaded, it's safety and security rests with the owner and/or Operator of the recovery vehicle, which contractually is the RAC. DO NOT TRUST THE RAC!

I expected to be charged an extra premium for changing my car yearly mileage from 4,000 to 8,000 miles, this being £26.95 but I did not expect them to charge an extra £25 for the privilege of paying them this extra money for them to just press a button. This after 30 years of loyal membership. I have complained to them via email, but, have not had any response. All their customer service numbers are premium rate i.e. 0844 and as I am a retired person I cannot afford to pay these expensive telephone charges just to complain. I thought companies' customer service departments were no longer allowed to use premium rate numbers.
