Received an email saying balance due and will be taken next week. Holiday is in wales , no holiday let's allowed until September, tried to track down owner to find out they've cancelled let's and a selling the property but sykes still want my money for a holiday I cant go on. Absolute charlatans , and no I won't be paying the balance.

Roger F I would have rated them no star. They have refused to reimburse the deposit on a holiday we should be on now. When I checked with the owner of the place we booked, I was informed that at the moment no one can stay overnight so the venue is closed and they had no indication that I had booked this week in their property. How come Sykes is taking deposits and not informing owners? All the more reason I will keep badgering them until I get a full refund.

NEVER USE THIS DECEITFUL COMPANY. Like many we have been unable to contact them and any responses were the generic rubbish. They still took our money dispite the holiday being cancelled by the government. Only once we got our local MP involved did they get in contact but still only gave a part refund! Although it's a different story on trust pilot, a surge of reviews claiming full contact and full refunds!! If this is the case why are they not treating all their customers the same????? Lies!

I’m an owner. Sykes are refusing to speak with me to help my customers. They are refusing to give me back my commission for services not delivered. But it does look like they’ve got lovely new offices. Guess that’s where my money has gone!

Holiday booked and paid in full for a holiday to Cornwall on April 18th. Sykes cancelled the holiday and have offered me a refund of £400. We paid £600. Why on earth would anyone pay a company £200 for nothing. I would ask them but that is not an option with Sykes as there is no way of contacting them.

I was meant to travel on the 8th May to The Willows in Pembrokeshire. On the 7th May I rang asking if I was still going as they hadn't cancelled? Luke the only adviser they have with no senior management said " we are waiting for the announcement on Sunday 10th May". I said "but we are due to go tomorrow not the 10th". Luke, was adamant that I was to await until the 10th May. Long shot is, we paid £286 deposit. We are only getting £25 back from the owners with Sykes keeping the rest for their commission. Now, not only is this illegal but also fraud as we never had our holiday so the firm shouldn't keep our deposit. I would never ever book with these again. Please also bare in mind they also trade under a lot of other firms. Please do your home work before you get caught up these farcical companies. Fraudsters!

As a holiday cottage owner with Sykes Cottages for 15 years I was very disappointed with the way they have changed over the years. We left because they became focused on maximising profit and taking as much money as they can from the customers without passing it to the owners. Sheer greed and exploitation of small businesses. We’ve had to start building a new customer base in 2020 in very difficult times.

Customer service is the most appalling ever! If they can treat an elderly couple in their 80’s the way they treated my in-laws, they have absolutely no morals or care for anyone at all. Took their money knowing they can have their holiday due to Covid and terminal cancer!! No ‘personal‘ communication about this at all, despite written letters, emails, phone calls and messenger! They’re a disgrace!

I can only reiterate what most people have said regarding recent dealings with Sykes during the COVID19 lockdown:- they are one of the worst holiday agents in existence. They hide behind 'your contract is with the cottage owner' spiel and yet they have not followed consumer law and never give you the details of the cottage owner who you are supposed to have the contract with. They automatically try to remove money from your bank although the holiday cannot take place on the dates you booked. They send you automated emails with information which is contrary to government regulations. Where they have given some refunds they have refunded as a credit voucher or kept owners expenses or commission which has nothing to do with the customer. The hideous list of poor service goes on and on but you can see the type of complaints by visiting Sykes Cottages Unhappy customers on facebook. Over 4000 unhappy customers. The company which owns Sykes also has interests in Trustpilot...so make your own mind up about fake positive feedback which has usually been invited by Sykes. Absolutely appalling ..I will never ever use them again and this is the same for over 60+ friends and family I have spoken to. Many complaints have been made to bodies such as The CMA, watchdog, Trading Standards, Newspapers and local MPs. How do they sleep at night when there are people who have lost jobs, family members and substantial amounts of money yet Sykes have show a total disregard to many of them. There is a growing amount of evidence that cottage owners are deserting them and disgusted with their behaviour.

Terrible company. Asking me to pay balance of deposit for a holiday that’s within lockdown. Terrible communication. Keeping customers money and refusing to refund in full. I will never book anywhere that is connected with Sykes or Vetruvian again. Trust pilot is also rigged (funnily enough as it’s part of the same company) and loads of fake reviews have been placed. If you want to book a holiday with a company who have a good reputation, can spell, and know about customer service do not use Sykes

Sykes have repeatedly refused to refund for a holiday unable to go ahead due to COVID lockdown. Only offering rebooking, cancellation or credit vouchers when the law clearly states that 'frustrated' contracts are null and void and customers have the right to a FULL CASH refund. Sykes don't answer emails, have reduced their call centre operations so they are almost non-existent, break promises made repeatedly and are not communicating with customers except for demanding balances for holidays that they know full well under government regulations cannot go ahead. I have used Sykes before but NEVER again. Utterly disgusted with them.... as are over 4000 other customers - take a look for yourself @ Sykes Cottages Unhappy Customers on Facebook. A few customers will always kick off when things don't go their way, 4000+ though??? I don't think so. Disgraceful, unethical and unprofessional company.

You are by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. I paid you a deposit of £142.30. You were then chasing me for the balance knowing full well that my holiday of 19th June could not go ahead due to Corona virus not allowing us to stay at another property until at least 4th July. You paid me the paltry sum of £18.66 and are keeping the rest, over £120. You truly are despicable but I am determined that I will get my money back from you because of this frustrated contract. Nasty, nasty people

As a cottage owner contracted to Sykes I gave them notice to terminate our contract as I’ve been appalled by the way they’ve treated both holidaymakers and owners during the COVID19 crisis. It took them 8 days to acknowledge this - and then only after I called them out over Twitter - because, in their own words ‘they had an awful lot of terminations of contracts to get through’. Hardly surprising. They closed their call centre, won’t answer emails and yet have plenty of time to advertise and comment on their social media pages. Their customer service (Or lack of it), has been shocking... wont give full refunds and trying to pit holidaymakers and owners against each other. The only winner out of this whole situation appears to be Sykes, who seem to think they above Government guidance and make the rules up as they go along. Can’t wait to be free of them as an owner and will never book a holiday through them again either. I begrudge giving them even 1 star.

I would have preferred to leave a no star review even that would be to good for Sykes, booked a cottage but due to lockdown unable to go even TOLD by Sykes I must not travel to the cottage, offered a credit note which I refused as I had already seen negative comments from other disappointed customers who couldn’t receive a refund even though CMA and government said companies must offer a cash refund, cannot get through by telephone they do not answer e mails never ever will I use Sykes Cottages again and will let everyone know what a despicable company they are.

Avoid avoid avoid please took the money for an holiday they knew I could never go on, then ignored emails and phone calls to try and get it back, still trying after two months, took money of me when I could least afford it. Will never ever use them or any holiday home owners who use them.

Refused to refund us the balance after we changed the date and now we have to spend £175 or lose it. Look very carefully at their terms and conditions as there are no circumstances that they would give you a refund.
