Fantastic holiday at Tor View Okehampton. Delightful cottage, extremely comfortable and plenty of room. The owners Kelvin and Sue were extremely friendly and so helpful, they definitely go over and above with all the extras, everything you could possibly need. Scrumptious welcome pack. Lovely areas to explore, great walks.

Appalling - Sykes should be taken to task by a consumer body. When booking, the full amount of the booking is taken by Sykes, and CANNOT be refunded unless you book and cancel six weeks prior to your holiday. This is impossible if you make a booking for a trip anything sooner than six weeks away. The terms of the booking are not clearly laid out on the website, and you will only find these terms when you receive a confirmation email AFTER they have taken your money, and if you click on the "terms of the booking" link hidden in your e-mail, and scroll through many pages to find this condition. Unless you're a UK resident you can't get insurance against that. But they still take the insurance payment from you anyway, then inform you afterwards that you can't get it because you're not a UK resident, and then you have to fight to get this refunded! I e-mailed them about the rental I'd booked, and got no response from them. This is a disgusting holiday booking forum, with both the administration, the rules and the website either very poorly managed, or intentionally misleading so that they can rip people off. AVOID SYKES at all costs. Someone needs to take them to a consumer protection forum.

Absolutely awful customer services! The Ryanair of the holiday letting business! Sykes cancelled our booking 2 days before arrival. 10 emails later and over 2 hours on hold - being passed from pillar to post and no idea when Ill get a refund. Terrible experience that ruined our first holiday on 2 years! BOOK WITH CAUTION

Had the misfortune of booking a Home in Donegal(Rockhill View) with SYKES when we arrived the place was so dirty it yook 5 of us a full half day to clean. Bins not emptied and soiled undeware under one bed and another of the beds was broken and unuseable. We had no instructions for using any appliances and the cooker needed cleaning, chipped dishes. We contacted Sykes immediately remembering that Ireland was still operating with Covid restrictions so I cannot understand how it was so dirty. When I rang again to report more issues I queried who gave it a 5 star rating. On the third day my 3 year old grand child was in the front garden and asked me what the smell was and took me over to where there was raw sewage running accross the grass. The person lookig after the property had to come out and dig in a temporary pipe to run the sewage from the house to the septic tank. Nice to sit and watch this happening. We then ran out of water and had nearly 2 days where we had to buy bottled water to cook and wash while they located a plumber to come and run a new supply to the house from down the lane. During the night before we left the electric went off, as I am an electrician I traced this to the Washing machine going faulty. They misadvertise the homes they rent, mine had a Sauna according to their advertisement, what they did not say was the owner had removed the buttons to make it unuseable, something the maintanace man said he had pulled the owner up on as he was sick of getting it in the neck from guests. This was probably due to the number of times he met guests to fix complaints. In our week either himself, his wife or plumber was on site 4 out of 7 days.Unfortunately due to our commitments we decided to try and make a holiday out of this disaster and on hind sight should have left on day one. Reading other reviews I do not envisage a positive outcome around compensation. We were robbed of £1500.00 for thisThis was the week commencing 10th July and despite 3 reference numbers multiple calls and emails since SYKES have not replied. I would not recomend this comp[any to anyone and would advise people to avoid them at all costs. As stated on other reviews they are great at taking your money but that is where it ends.

Along with many others on here we had a really bad experience with Sykes Cottages, we also contacted the CEO but to no avail, started a credit card chargeback two days after our return in June, finally heard today, 10 weeks on that our case had been dealt with by the credit card's internal pre arbitration team and the temporary refund to our credit card would now be made permanent, a small win and a HEADS UP TO OTHERS. Also this matter is in the hands of a solicitor appointed by our home insurers and we are pursuing a claim for the loss of a weeks annual leave and for the inconvenience and stress involved in trying to resolve this issue.

My Son booked cottage in good faith through Sykes, the cottage was stated to be in Rock when in fact it wasn’t , but short drive from Rock Despite repeated efforts Sykes just fobbed him off , they were most unprofessional and to say the least had a very tenuous grasp of the truth … Would not recommend this company as demonstrated by the hundreds of dire reviews

DO NOT BOOK WITH SYKES COTTAGES! Terrible customer service- Sykes didn't bother pursuing our formal complaint, even after I emailed the Chief Exec Graham Donoghue, they couldn't care less. We stayed in Lair Close Cottage- Harrogate. It was a health and safety hazard, the bathroom was falling apart and riddled with green furry mould (attached pics). The whole property wreaked of damp and mould and was not fit for visitors, we left after the first night. Our two children could not have stayed there, the mould would have caused severe health problems. Sykes are refusing all responsibility- clearly there are no inspections and they use false advertising. WE ARE FIGHTING FOR A REFUND AND GOING TO THE SMALL CLAIMS COURT. This company is a sham and a disgrace.

Actually doesn't warrant 1 star but could review with no stars. Stayed in Hope Cove Seagrass. Very dirty. Not cleaned at all. Curtains falling down and bathroom disgusting. Dog poo outside front door in poo bags. Complained to Sykes and Coast and Country but nothing done. The picked up one poo bag but left the second. Left 4 days early. Now trying to get compensation. Don't hold out any hope Terrible company with no standards.

A year on from our stay in a Sykes hut and still no compensation. We stayed in one of their properties and the boiler was faulty(kept turning off) and did not have a valid service certificate, so we decided not to stay for the safety of my children. But they just don't care .

The property was filthy and despite photo evidence Sykes did nothing. We won’t be using them ever again and nor will any of family or friends.

6 of us have stayed in the old sweet shop in foulsham 2 weeks ago and below are the issues we are not happy with especially in a pandemic. I put review on tripadvisor aswell but I now posting this as I believe from other party member who booked the cottage that the owner is disputing the cleanliness. Please review the pictures attached. Very dirty cooker hood and kitchen units. Dirty bathroom. No parking and HGV’s thundering past every day Loose stair rail. Uneven flags Guttering full of bebris causing rain on the outdoor seating and soaking the cushions Loose carpet Throws full of dog hair Kettle full of lime scale Microwave not working and full of rust I had read other poor reviews but had already booked. I thought the owner would have taken note and corrected problems. I wish I had listened and done something while I was there or before going. I hope this helps others not to be disappointed. I have tried to attach photos.

June 2021 Sykes cancelled our booking at few days notice. Offered inferior unsuitable replacement accommodation which was declined. My son is disabled .We had chosen the original premises with care. Difficult telephone calls with uncivil (or there about) staff. Had held our deposit for over a year because of Lockdown postponement. Ungraciously returned our deposit with approx £70 compensation . We were already committed to cattery bills etc etc which trebled this amount. Will never again use this company (or associated companies...beware they trend under many links and are big).

After travelling 3 hours on route to our destination I received a call to say our cottage is no longer available! It had been double booked. It is not acceptable to tell me 1.5 hours before I check-in with a car full of luggage and 3 tired children in the back that you have made a mix up with your booking system!! Stopped at the side of a road for 2 hours trying to sort out the problem with Pamela refusing to let me speak to a manager and false promises to call me back to which I waited 50 minutes with no phone call before I had to phone again myself. Having said you'd investigate fully- why has no one contacted me still nearly 2 weeks later?!

Firstly, I'm very disappointed that you have to give one star before being able to write anything here, Sykes don't deserve it. My experience mirrors many that are written about here, damp, smelly property not at all as described. Fully fitted kitchen, turned out to be the remains of a bar (property was apparently a former cellar bar with the tables taken out and a bed put in) with a microwave and kettle. The kettle wouldn't fit under the taps of the tiny bar sink. There were no implements or crockery, no cooking ring. Fire exit doors had been boarded up with one still saying Fire Exit over it. Wiring was chaotic and dangerous. Shower room had broken tiles and a broken loo seat. The photos online had been arranged to hide the damage. All very grubby, damp, dark and cold (on one of the hottest days of the year). We contacted Sykes straight away and have after a month or so managed to get back money for three of the 4 nights. We tried to get other accommodation for the first night but there was nothing to be had anywhere. Had I realised that the bedding too was damp, I would have left there and then and slept in the car. A much looked forward to holiday ruined and lots of stress and energy since then trying to get a full refund. Having read many of the complaints here you have to ask ' DO SYKES VET THEIR PROPERTIES AT ALL?' I doubt it, so if you're reading this, please beware. I wrote a negative review for their site but it was never put up. They now say that they will not refund the money I paid to them as they have fulfilled their contract. When you pay them the money you apparently enter into two separate contracts, one with them for the agency and one with the owner whose details they may or may not give you. You can always try complaining to the local tourist board or fire authority, but whatever, I really don't recommend Sykes at all.

First impressions on arrival very poor.bags of rubbish ,large weeds on front step ,flowerpots growing yet more weeds. Inside grubby.dirty stair carpet ,old mats on floor and most surfaces covered in dust .Sykes were very dismissive of my complaints and didn’t seem to care that our holiday was not as described.

We stayed in 2 different properties in Cornwall. The first property Myles View was wonderful and exactly what we expected. The second week we stayed in a property in Pendra Loweth Compass Point and this was not a good experience. The site was not fully opened- no plunge pool. The noise from neighbouring property went on into the early hours of the morning so sleep was impossible. The temperature of the water in our holiday rental was dangerously hot, the fridge was broken and the kitchen cupboards were so cluttered we had nowhere to store food. Sykes cottage have been extremely unhelpful and have not taken any action to address these concerns.

Double the usual price for a staycation in Cornwall !! Took nearly 8 hrs to get here with 3 kids. Lodge is stinking and not worth even half the price ive paid. Dirty hot tub, stained mattresses, faulty hoover giving electric shocks!! Sykes are a complete disgrace, profitting off the pandemic. I will never use them again..... avoid this company at all costs
