I booked a holiday rental and paid in full. I was due to go tomorrow and they cancel my holiday. They have kept my money despite me requesting a full refund so I can look elsewhere. They have just cancelled for no reason. I am paying interest on the full amount paid to them. They should at least pay my money back straight away. Awful awful company & the property owners are worse. Sykes are also impossible to get through to on the telephone and their app just doesn’t allow all types of queries. Awful company. I am unable to book elsewhere as they have not refunded my money.

We used Sykes cottages to book a cottage next door but one to our property, in LLan Ffestiniog for our workman and his son, upon them leaving I went in to check that everything was okay, they had loaded the dishwasher and I rinsed some glasses through plumped the cushions up etc, we then received an email with pictures showing a hair dryer plugged in, some crumbs and a very cheap bath Matt left half in and out of the shower and a dirty towel to name a few of the photos, pots I rinsed through had been put haphazardly on the kitchen unit , all staged photos , the cleaner went in spent the normal amount of time but we then received an invoice for £260 off Sykes saying replacement, duvets a replacement bath Matt and carpet clean , please be careful if you book with this scammer company nothing is as it seems avoid at all costs I will never use these again I will also mention our builder has stayed at numerous cottages in the area and had no problems whatsoever with other holiday let companies Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!!!!!!!!!

Sykes double booked us. Cancelled our trip 2 days before we were due to go. Couldn’t find us an alternative. 6 days later and still no refund.

We recently stayed at the Limes and had a lovely time. It really is home from home and the log burner made it very cosy. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The bus stop is just across the green and it is easy to get to places with the regular service.

Bungalow was under CCTV surveillance - had not been notified - now trying to find out who owner of CCTV is, what was recorded, what information is being held by whom but Skye’s won’t get that info from owner even though their own terms and conditions say they will. Horrid patronising blocking email responses from customer services - zero action zero result. No effort to resolve - what a horrid company to try to deal with - why should they care now they have my money I suppose. Horrid - avoid using them at all costs!

Used the £20 low deposit option - cancelled within 24 hours of making the booking - 2 months before the arrival date. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU THE FULL DEPOSIT Read the T&C’s carefully - it’s all stated in there but Sikes don’t make it clear and actively promote £20 low deposit. It’s not, it’s a pre-payment on a deposit. Surely has to be mis-selling?? Will never use Sykes again and wouldn’t recommend anyone else does.

First and last time with Sykes last week - only stayed 36 hours, rang Sykes 2nd and said we would be leaving following. Jobs half finished, big holes in ceiling - could go on. Rang Sykes again when we got home and said contract was with them and not the owner only to be told it changes to the owner once we started the holiday - owner rang up 10.30 at night regarding the problems and cos we hadn’t contacted him there was no refund. Went to post this and asking how we communicated with the company. Only one option can be selected but communication was by email, live chat and telephone.

READ FIRST before booking - https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/sykes-cottages & https://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews240834.html Don't book a Sykes Cottage via Airbnb!, they say they don't manage the bookings but they the property host. When you request to cancel via Airbnb the online request goes directly to Sykes but on the phone direct with Sykes you are not all to cancel it has to be done via Airbnb. This holiday was booked 5 month prior to going and I want to cancel 4 month prior to going, if cancelled they take 50% - £800+ to cancel the holiday, its disgusting they are just ripping people off and using the guise of Airbnb to cover it up. They say you would get a full refund if the holiday was booked direct with them but after reading the comments this seems to be untrue.

I cannot get my head around this low deposit scheme. It seems wildly unfair that a spouse can literally die, you can experience extenuating circumstances and they make absolutely no allowances because you agreed to terms and conditions? There is no compassion or empathy. It’s not a fair set up, if a holiday owner cancels that’s the end of it but if a holidaymaker cancels they have to pay hundreds? How are you supposed to know someone is going to unexpectedly pass away!! I think it’s an absolute scam and I have no idea how it is even a legal and approved process. They bombard you with ‘book for £20’, ‘secure for £20’ on every page then right at the last minute put in the fine print that you’re liable for full deposit payment NO MATTER WHAT!! They say it’s to help those in financial difficulty but it 100% to prey and take advantage of them. The business is disgusting.

This company are complete scammers, never book with them. I booked an accommodation with them and booked the wrong dates by accident, on the same day I booked I requested that they change the reservation dates, and they took 1 week to respond to my request, and after they did, they rejected the reservation dates change even though they would have made more money of me. They refuse to give me a refund and I paid £556.00 for the accommodation and now my money has all gone to waste. NEVER BOOK WITH THEM OR USE THEIR SERVICES, THE MOST EXPENSIVE PRICES, THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE WORST REFUND AND REBOOKING SERVICE.

My husband booked a cottage on the Saturday and then cancelled on the Monday. He had booked the wrong cottage, and set about booking an apartment in the correct location with Sykes. On the Monday he booked the 2nd location, Sykes took £255 from his bank account for the 1st property as way of cancellation and £50 for the 2nd one. He phoned Sykes who advised he was not entitled to a refund for property 1, even though it’s 3 months away, then informed him that if he cancelled the 2nd property , he would be charged an additional £200. So this means that we would be £550.00 down without a holiday to go to. This is outrageous!!! They are scammers, and there is nothing apparently we can do. Avoid these scammers.

As an owner we were treated dreadfully. Sykes let our house to a family of 8, who were encouraged to pay insurance through Sykes, and then proceeded to invite all their friends and trash the place. We received no help or compensation from Sykes (even with the renter's paying Sykes for insurance) and instead they are trying to sue us for breaking our contract with them because we said we didn't trust them to look after our property anymore and cancelled further bookings. After the harrassment and bullying we have had to give in and pay Sykes. We are now at least 5k out of pocket (after the damage and break of contract fees) due to their dreadful service. Never again. Don't trust them to look after your property at all. Keep away from Sykes.

We had a lovely holiday September 2023 at Minydon cottage in Fairbourne, Wales and decided to book again for 2024. We booked on the 18th September 2023 and paid the required deposit £283.80 with the balance due on the 4th May 2024 for our holiday on week commencing 15th June. We saw no reason for travel insurance and were looking forward to our holiday. We had in fact planned to book a second week late September, so glad we didn't. It was with much regret we had to cancel our booking ref 4OMRJ-23-EN and did this the other day on the 21st February leaving Sykes plenty of time (4months notice) for other customers to take up the vacancy. By way of explanation, I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Unfortunately, they also found a large tumour on my left kidney. My kidney was removed on the 8th February and I will now be convalescing for several weeks. Following on from this, I have an appointment with the oncology consultant on the 23rd April in preparation for radiotherapy treatment on my prostate which will take place 5 days a week for 4 weeks, a total of 20 treatments. The timing of this illness and planned treatment will prevent us from fulfilling our obligation to both Sykes and the property owner who has also been informed of my condition and not intervened. It is very disappointing for both of us as we had such a great time at Minydon last September and were so looking forward to staying there again. Whilst we appreciate terms and conditions state that deposits are non-returnable, we do believe that some discretion, empathy and compassion should be applied in such circumstances. We note on here that other cancer patients have been treated with similar contempt. Shame on you Sykes, your company is a disgrace. Roy Burns. Sykes have since made comments on my review which proves they have completely missed the point regarding discretion on refunds. I have cancer for goodness sake and am unable to go on holiday due to ongoing treatment. They say it's not fair to issue a refund. Is it "fair" to keep a deposit from someone who finds themselves in this position? Do they not have responsible management capable of making the right decisions instead of leaving it to junior office staff who just do as they are told and follow the rules to the letter so that Sykes can pocket the money ? Disgraceful.

Scam £20 low deposit miss leading & they take the remainder of the deposit if you cancel in my case £500 for nothing. I cancelled within a few weeks of a booking over 6 months away. DO NOT USE SYKES.

I am a cottage owner. Sykes cancelled MY customers bookings during the high Christmas season for no viable reason and ruined the Xmas & New year bookings for 6 sets of guests. Then are attempting to charge me circa £15,000 to pay the guests back with additional compensation, plus compensation to Skye’s. The person or persons dealing with me at Sykes clearly had super low reasoning skills and questionable intelligence and wielded their (bit of) power over me and MY customers. Thankfully, I have left Sykes now and book guests through Independent Cottages. I pay an annual fee of approx £400 and that’s it … no 20% fee or super low pricing that brought in the ‘wrong’ type of customer. I can set my own pricing. Owners should consider moving to Independent Cottages for a far superior agency service, flexible service & money. I think it is also a better and cheaper option for the customer. I can see I’m not alone in being subject to Sykes gross incompetence and fraudulent behaviour. Don’t expect any helpful replies from Sykes
