Have an RAC breakdown policy. Had it approx 3 years . downloaded the app recommended by RAC and opted for my documents to be stored electronically again recommended by RAC. Then with no prior knowledge got an email saying I can no longer use the app as they did not want to mislead me with inaccurate information ??????? whatever that means. Straight away I had lost access to my membership number and all of my documents. I put in a complaint and after more than a month got a reply saying they had done nothing wrong and hard luck. Would not recommend them to anybody. All they want is your money and nothing else.

6 hours to recover a lorry that was on a dangerous rd is a ridiculous amount of time to wait. I have spent the whole of my work day chasing this company who in return have blamed Cordwallis at Heathrow for Their awful service. Sorry RAC you are the ones who have not done your job properly and both Cordwallis and ourselves had the phone records as proof. its a shame your staff didnt record all of the calls.

I have had the worst breakdown experience ever yesterday. I called them at 4.30pm to report my van won't start. The initial time was 5.40 - 6.30, that changed to 7.45, that then changed to 11.30- 2.40am!!! On a Sunday evening! I was stuck in a field in a stately home that lock up for the night. No one asked how to get in or called me to ask. I had to complain after waiting for 3.5 hours, then they sent a different company. He called me when at a different gate but his English was so poor that I told him to go to the end of the road and turn right, then right again, but he turned left... He couldn't understand me. An office called and an English speaker thankfully so I explained to him how the driver can get in to me, as the English heritage home would only let people in through the deliveries gate. Eventually he came but didn't have a screw driver to take the cover off the battery... So he went to his van and got a kitchen knife to try! You could not write this stuff! I told him it wasn't going to work and told him what piece he needed for a screwdriver and he went back to his van and bought out some bits.... I saw the bit that was needed but he insisted on using a flat one, I didn't want him to use this as it wasn't wide enough and will mess up the head and then the screw won't come out... I asked him to use the one I picked out of his box and eventually he did use it and the screw came out... Because it was the correct bit! I cannot even begin to explain how ridiculous this all was... What has happened to the RAC?? I had no food and two animals in the van and no toilet... And they wanted to leave me there as a lone female for 10 hours!!!???? As it was it ended up being 5, which is still ridiculous. I then tried to complain on their website but it wouldn't accept the registration number. Terrible. I am going to green flag

Absolutely horrible. Broke down with 2 children 1 of which has a medical condition and a partner who has had surgery. Told RAC this they told us this they will send someone out We have been here 5 hours now and each time we ring they tell us 45 minutes even though they STILL have us down as PENDING which means they have lied to us all this time. Do not rely on them, a-holes

My 79 year old father , called the RAC out this week, he broke down , at 14.30. he was told he had to wait till in-between, 19.00pm to 22.00pm , no one had arrived by 22.00pm so made yet another call to find out what was happening, to be told that a recovery vehicle had not even been dispatched to us ,they eventually arrived to us 00.30am , to recover the car , my father had no food no drink it was cold , and he had kidney problems, RAC , really didn't care , who ever I spoke to just follow there rehearsed speech , one person hung up on me because I wanted a estimated time of arrival, I pay for the full works on this policy , and as for a hire car it's only for one day , RAC you rip off your customers, because you can't abide to your online promises

Pay nearly £400 a year for family cover, tried using them 4 times and given up on 3 occasions due to taking forever to get anyone out. Then, late last night hit a deer and car needed recovery they charged me £24 non refundable then £378 to tow me back home. Abdolute joke of a company and will be cancelling my policy.

Online only service, no option to speak to a human. Updates only by text. First slot was minimum 4 hr wait, moved back to minimum 7 hr wait. Finally attended by local firm, job not passed to them until 6 hrs had passed. No service whatsoever, horrible experience, leaving them immediately.

Called at midday, no updates for four hours, rang them, said another hour, then extended by another two hours on line. Absolute rubbish. While we were waiting at the services where we had broken down, saw four AA vans sorting other breakdowns. That's where the smart money is.

Frustrated OAP follow up. After letting RAC that I was going to contact The Ombudsman as was my legal rights, low and behold I get a reply from them saying sorry but after looking into my case they discovered I was in fact covered and I should not have been charged again. 5 weeks down the line. It wasn’t rocket science for them and Ssangyong to talk with each other to have sorted this out long before now, and therefore being less stressful for me. But it doesn’t finish there, my payment to them was taken instantly from my bank account but it’s going to take them up to 2 weeks to press the button that will return it to me. An utter disgrace and shame on RAC. My daughter is on social media and now all her many contacts and work colleagues have been told of my woes and the support that I have from them has been very touching. SHAME ON YOU RAC. A simple small sorry does not hold anything for all the stress that I have endured

17.9.24 Reporting breakdown was straight forward. Although no human option available to speak to. I gave all breakdown details via text. Technology was then able to pin point my exact location. Luckily I did have signal. Not sure how it would have gone if not, as there doesn’t seem to be any option to speak to a human in the initial process. James (breakdown recovery) then called me within a very short space of time to say he would be with me in 15 minutes. Thankyou James you were fantastic. Extremely professional, talking me through everything that was happening. Then went above and beyond and took me and the car the over half an hour drive home, after his shift has ended so I didn’t have to wait alone at the services for another pick up truck. By this point it was dark. Thankyou so much James, I really do appreciate what you did. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely shocking service, took 4 hours to get call out due to network issues. Car was misdiagnosed costing us over £350 in transportation costs. AVOID THE RAC! You've been amply warned... Go with AA instead. RAC are ranked the lowest for speed of service out of the major breakdown companies.

I wish I could put zero star. You left my partner stranded in the middle of nowhere three hours from home for TEN hours. He spoke to 6 different people at the call centre over this time, to be lied to each time saying someone will be there in an hour. Absolute lies. To add to this, he suffers with his mental health, to the point he nearly had mental breakdown and to be treated like thst is appalling behaviour from you. He then was told by the last call centre staff it will be a link drop off, so he was took to the services half way home. Thst driver was brilliant with him. But the other link driver refused to wait (isn't this there job). So he had no choice but to get an uber and leave the van at thr service.. its still there now. After reading review on another review site, it looks like you've changed owners and your losing customers. What is the point in paying a subscription to your service when you can't deliver the service you sold. I'll never use RAC ever again.

I bought a new car which came with 2 years breakdown from RAC. Unfortunately I had to call them out and when I did they insisted I was not covered so before anyone would come and look at it I had to give them £199.00 plus setting up a direct debit for £11.50 a month for 12 months ( which I cancelled The following day. After numerous calls to them a breakdown man came after 6 hours waiting. He advised me not to drive it and he called it in for me. I then had to part with £64 before RAC would sent a breakdown pick up to come for me. After paying for all off this I had to wait another 4 hours. 10 hours wait to get picked up, on top off having to re join was not the experience I was expecting. The following day I called the garage I bought my car from and they confirmed that I was indeed covered and should not have been asked to rejoin. I am now 5 weeks later trying to recover this money, but it’s a never ending battle. I am getting no where and as a widow and pensioner living on my own I find this whole experience so disgusting and distressing. RAC are not replying to my emails now and to me it seems as if they are totally ignoring me. My daughter( who is a lawyer) has now advised me to contact The Ombudsman to ask them to help me. In the meantime the garage and car makers have assured under the contract that I am still covered, but as I have no faith in this I have taken out my own cover with another company.

I’ve been a RAC member for 20 years now, last Friday evening after having big troubles with my drivers door locking mechanism the central locking flipped locking me out of my van whilst making delivery with engine running. 20 miles from home, on a grim cold, very wet evening I managed to borrow a phone from the property I was parked in front of and phoned RAC for help, however after about 45 minutes and half frozen I was categorically refused all help claiming I wasn’t an official breakdown…? despite me explaining was only a matter of time before van started over-heating and becoming a genuine hazard/emergency. All my possessions Locked in van including my house door keys, phone everything…. Panic situation! I’m shocked and appalled from this treatment being in genuine dire straits and denied any help from the company I pay good money for this very reason. I mean what the hell? After this,’ I then rang all locksmiths none of which could attend till next day, I tried the police who couldn’t help, I even tried to join the AA who wanted nearly £450/500 in total on spot, but also wanted payment prior to them Attending, phone locked in van so of course I couldn’t do anything…. After nearly 2 hours stood in shorts/tshirt outside half-numb as a last resort i smashed my own window with a brick (hurting my wrist in process) to get in from desperation. The van is a lovely VW T6 I’m devastated at this and having to take this action. Not least, the next problem was trying to clear the glass to sit on the seats having gone everywhere and make the windowless door covered/secure for the night, I didn’t sleep from the stress of wondering if van would be broken into during night as it’s parked out on road….. I’m currently waiting a whole week till window can be replaced and can’t use van for my delivery work, thanks so much RAC …. Absolutely abysmal service, left me in such a vulnerable, helpless dangerous situation and caused me a great deal of stress and anxiety. I won’t be renewing, utterly appalling!!!, what a disgraceful organisation and waste of my money.

Probably the worst breakdown Company! I had first hand experience of this the RAC letting me & my family down! The 3rd party recovery company they used had said they are terrible for them to deal with and customers always complain about the RAC! I had my membership cancelled via a London call centre while I was been recovered, which has now been proven to have been a miss use of power given to a call centre member of staff! Absolutely disgraceful behaviour Behaviour! As a result I’d had to limp my vehicle home with towing caravan with my vehicle having a ride height problem. I’ve been a member since the 90’s not any more, Green Flag- I’ve been advised to me is the best, via the 3rd party breakdown service (which the RAC used) & via a number of clubs have recommended them so will move over to them now. RAC patrol vans only carry one computer to connect to your vehicle, in my case it could not even connect to my Range Rover so no fault code could not be read! This is not good enough also £50 compensation is not good enough for your incompetent company’s attempt deal with my breakdown.
