Waited 4 hours for the Rac home start service. A sub-contractor turned up at 9.45pm in a flat-bed vehicle. I explained the problem. He started the car (didn't actually get in the car so no revving of the engine) asked when I'd last had it serviced. I said 8 months ago. He then lectured me about the fact that a car should be serviced every 6 months and I should take it to my garage for a service. Didn't look under the bonnet. No test-drive. What a complete waste of time. All this for £36 per month! Off to AA.

An RAC sub contractor misdiagnosed the reason for my car not starting and at the time a battery boost would have had the car running--RAC customer services at first accepted that there had been a mistake and offered to pay for the distributor I had been wrongly told I needed. After their 'investigation', they denied any responsibility for the situation, stressing that I had received advice only, rather than a full diagnosis. My car was off the road for several weeks as a result.

I have been an RAC customer for years and always just renewed because it was easier. This year I received my renewal pack and discover that on the reverse of the policy schedule there is a breakdown of my payment schedule. My Breakdown Premium was £84.99 and there was an additional Arrangement and Administration fee of £40!! Making a total payment of £124.99. I call RAC as I have never before been advised of any arrangement fee, to be told that there is a new law in place where companies had to be upfront about all charges no administration fee. I told the guy that I thought £40 on a £84.99 policy was extortionate as this was nearly 50% of my actual policy added in administration fee. I was not offered any reduction in this charge and have therefore left RAC. I feel that they have been very crafty in the past by not mentioning this extra fee.

Terrible company. Been with them for over a year. No renewal documents sent but £140 deducted from my account. Tried to cancel the policy but they refused saying I was 3 days outside of the cancellation period so I loose all my money. I tried to complain but basically told tough luck they don't care.

DO NOT BUY! RAC don't even administer the warranty. There are soooo many exclusions. Paid £750 for a three year warranty yet still had pay £2000 for repairs that most other extended warranty providers would have covered. DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY!

Call out at 2.30pm. Subcontracted out to "Friendly" and we are still waiting for a driver to attend at 9pm, new estimated time of arrival 9.30pm, 7 hours later! I am still doubtful this target time will be fulfilled and still have a 3 hour journey home. RAC need to stop using this sub contractor who's service is appalling and having spoken to their service team they are also very rude!

We took out RAC policy for our daughter who is 19 years old and thought it would be a good safety net should she break down. She had a flat tyre this evening at 10pm and called the RAC who said they would be with her within the hour.....She told them she was 19 and could they come any quicker as she felt vulnerable in an unsafe part of Leeds, not being near a centre or near any shops. They put her on priority and said someone would be there soon.....an hour later, still no one.....1 and half hours,....no one turned up, but after calling numerous times to ask, was told someone would be 10 mins, and someone did call her and said he was on the way, but still no one turned up. In despair, i ( her mum, stuck at home) called the police to see if they could help? if she could drive the car home with a flat tyre. They made a record of the enquiry and finally after a whopping 2 hours and 45 mins someone came to fix the tyre at 1am. What a great service RAC, you really know how to put your customers first, such a global and massive company cant even find an engineer for a young girl stranded alone in a car. You should be ashamed of your excellent name because this really was rubbish service!!!!

My husband waited for 3.5 hrs last night for tow truck- still not arrived when he had to leave the car!! Initially was promised someone would be with him in 70 mins. Over 2 hrs later no one had attended and no updates. He was constantly on the phone trying to find out what was going on. At 10pm I had to drive 45 mins in wet to collect him and he has had to leave the car. The only response from RAC was that it has been a busy night. Appalling service.

Broke down Sunday evening phoned to report this but explained no need to send anyone out at night arranged a recovery for next day between 10 & 11 am. Recovery arrived I explained the battery was low and it was a fuel problem. The fuel was not getting from the tank to the filter. He attached a starter pack turned the engine over then said it was probably the cam belt had slipped, took the inspection cover off cam belt and said that it was ok. He then laid on the ground and hit the fuel tank with his hand then tried to start the engine no luck.At no time did he run a diagnostic check but decided I would have to be towed to a local garage.Throughout this time he continually asked who done my servicing He was told a person in the next town,he then wanted to know what his name was and where workshop was This info I refused to to give him in addition to this he went to great lenghts telling me how I should consider having the cam belt changed He did at one point say how he was a mechanic and used to for a local garage this made me wonder if he was looking for work for himself or a friend. I only joined the RAC as part of a package with my insurance, if this is typical of their service engineers then never again

I was happy with the person rac sent but not with the time taken . Battery died last week at 6pm and rang rac , didn't realise rac just gave job to a garage . Anyway got text saying they will come at 8pm. I was left freezing sat on main road in car whilst driver got to me. When he arrived he said he only got the job from rac now as he was packing to go home. Not happy at all. Guy was lovely.though couldn't have done enough for me. Previously I was with the AA and honestly they were there within.minutes I had problems and really good. Will not be renewing with rac again.

Tried to cancel my breakdown cover after a year after realising they had deducted the premium automatically from my account, which apparently it stipulates when you take out the policy, however I did not remember this, unsurprisingly, as it was a year ago. By default if they don't here from you regarding renewal they will automatically take the money from your account and renew, as opposed to the cover lapsing, therefore if you change email address or home address depending on how you took out the cover initially you won't know it is coming from your account. Won't be using RAC again as I am struggling now to get the money back and the cover is now on a car which I no longer own, grr.

20:05 Motorbike puncture Tuesday night,on side of dual carriageway no hard shoulder. 20:10 RAC informed 'Be there within the hour'. 21:16 o RAC called very busy ( late Tuesday evening?) no patrol till 2245. Couple of near misses by lorries so had to push bike off and up sliproad for safety. 22:39 RAC called. No patrol available able to make temp puncture repair or recover. 'Will call local agent (subcontract recovery) 23:10 Westbourne motors arrive and recover to home at 24:00 excellent service by them. Even offered to take me and bike next day to local tyre shop. Will cancel my RAC policy and go to green flag who use local agents ( like Westbourne Motors) to deal with breakdowns.

Worst breakdown experience ever! I went on holiday in Europe and got a breakdown cover policy with RAC with the promise that if I broke down my car would be towed to a garage and accommodation would be provided if an overnight stay was required. What happened was that I broke down my car was taken after many hours of waiting and the company made me wait hours on end with the promise that a hotel would be found very soon. In the end I had to find my own accommodation without any form of transport being given. On this particular trip I broke down twice and the same thing happened both times. The nightmare came with the reimbursement, after calling for the breakdown I was told that there would be a reimbursement given to me for the overnight stay and a contribution to the labour cost of fixing the car. Instead what happened when I got back was that they told me that because the car took more than 1 day to fix they would not contribute anything to the labour costs and because I did not stay in a hotel that they would not reimburse my overnight stay either. So the company did not find me anywhere to stay or contribute to the cost of the breakdown which where the whole reason I got the policy to begin with. Which brings me to ask what was the point of insuring myself against such a heavy cost of breaking down since all I got from RAC was one towing pickup which probably would not have cost me that much more than the policy did?

Rac Is the worst must unprofessional money grabbing company I have ever dealt with ever. My car brokers down at my home address so had to pay £25 to upgrade home start then they sent a man with a jump pack to fix a fuel issue bthen wanted£110 to take my car to a garagec £16 miles away leaving me now choice but to to it with my wife and this went badly wrong and we could have caused a very serious accident on a 70 mph a road then we called the rac again and explained what had happened and that we needed recovering the rest of the way but as it was 1 mile over the 10 mile max they wanted £7 for the final mile but I had no means of payment to hand so they happily left us stranded by a main road at 12.30 at night with our children at home .I will never ever give this firm 1 more penny and will make sure as many people as possible know how ruthless uncaring and money grabbing they are. They tried to hold me to ransome and endangered our life's for £7 I am absolutely shocked by their abysmal service

Your review Already waited 90 minutes for them to arrive, I explained to the guy on the phone I'm not with the car and would they call in advance. He said yes they will call 20 minutes before hand. No call, or missed call or answerphone message now have to wait another hour really very unhappy with this poor service especially as a new member. It was only when I called to ask where they were did I find they had been and gone onto the next job the call centre should improve their service and do and efficient job, well below standard can't even carry out a simple task. Information obviously wasn't passed to the driver wasted half a day already waiting !!

This review is based on the call centre near Carlisle and not based on the drivers that are sent out. (The drivers do a great job) So I had injured myself whilst coming down a mountain which required me getting airlifted to A&E and being induced with some drugs morphine to be exact. I had called RAC to ask if they could tow my car back to Manchester and they said yes if we could send the hospital report and the doctors note saying I am unable to drive... I did that via fax. Once I got the car to a reasonable location with single thanks to a friends help they told me they hadn't go the fax. I had been back and forth trying to get it faxed and no look and RAC Manager didn't ring me back on request, nor did they send a driver to look at the document in person. 3 long hours waiting they pretty much did nothing and caused me to drive back myself whilst on drugs and they still think there was no reason for them to send a van to tow my car. I feel no care was taken for the customer's health but they were happy for me to go round in circles with their silly fax machine or email where there is no data connection. Poor service and shocking customer service!
